Though the bank of fog moved along at a relatively fast clip, there were many miles of open ocean between Nokohai and Virconia. As such, it didn't near shore until after the sun had risen, but even the warmth of the sun's rays did nothing to disperse it.
Dark and ghostly shapes seemed to dance ominously within its depths, but they were just illusions caused by the roiling clouds of gray.
Or perhaps not.
Soon, the wall of mist rolled over the ship out at sea like a slow-moving wave, taking the craft into its murky embrace . . . and it was as if a switch had been flipped.
The sun suddenly disappeared behind several layers of thick fog, plunging the area into a bleak, gray twilight. The air temperature dropped like a stone, going from the comfortable 80's into the low 60's in a matter of seconds. And as the mist closed around them, visibility dropped to ten feet, leaving the men barely able to see each other, let alone what lay beyond the boat.
But most unsettling of all was the sudden lack of noise. The sound of the ocean was ambient. It is always making its own music -- the waves lapping against the hull, the gentle shifting of billions of gallons of water, the occasional splash -- but the sound was suddenly gone, muted by the fog.
Nothing is louder than the end of a song that's always been there.
The mist -- and the ethereal shapes within it -- swirled slowly around the men upon the frigate, like a group of sharks circling a lone piece of prey floating in the water . . .

.Antique Heartbeat. Wrinkling her face, Asherah huffed and took his hand.
"I'll get you for that. Count on it." Lacing their fingers together again, she let him lead the way, and followed him like a lost kitten. And, suddenly, they would turn along with a bend in the river . . . and see a young, brown female Draconian, lying sprawled out and unconscious upon the river bank. A large gash upon her shoulder oozed blood slowly, staining the mud beneath her reddish brown. One of her wings also appeared to be broken, judging by the unnatural angle at which it was twisted. Put simply, she did not look good . . .

And in the instant she saw the creature, she was already in a hurry to be at it's side.
"Are you alright?" She whispered in the native tongue. "Please speak. Are you okay?"
Holding her hand over the the wound on it's shoulder, she concentrated on making it glow a soft blue. Asherah wanted to stop the bleeding at least, the wing was out of her repair. Slipping her hands under the arms of the female Draconian, she attempted to pull her away from the mud of the bank, and managed only a few feet before laying the creature out.
"These things are heavy!" Asherah panted out as she attempted to wake the creature by smacking it's cheek.

Enki hurries behind Asherah and kneels beside the female, inspecting her for a moment. "Here, move your hand," he says before pulling a bottle of water from his pocket. He opens it and pours the contents onto the large wound, washing away the mud and dirt that had most likely built up near it. The moment the dirt was away from the open cut, his eyes begin to glow blue and the water over it freezes instantly, closing the wound. "When she's a bit more awake, that cold is going to hurt like a b***h, but it won't bleed."

"What did this to her.. poor thing..." Lifting it's head, she placed it on her lap. "It got to her pretty bad. I don't know if she'll make it." As Asherah looked down at the beast, her lips formed a soft frown as her fingers lightly touched it's face.

He glances around a bit to see if there is anyone, or anything nearby, either friendly or fearsome. Seeing nothing, he looks back down at her and frowns as well. "We have to get her help... we can't be far from the town now, can we? They must have some sort of doctor or at least a medic or healer there."

As Asherah's fingers brushed the Draconian's face, she stirred, groaned . . . and started to open her eyes slowly.
Suddenly, her eyes shot open, black pupils narrowing to slits no wider than a hair. She made a sound that was a cross between a shriek and a roar -- an expression of outright terror -- and tried to pull away. She fell off of Asherah's lap, claws scrabbling in the mud as if trying to escape. Then, abruptly, she stopped as she seemed to realize something, and sat there staring with huge eyes and breathing heavily.
The poor thing looked absolutely terrified . . .

Asherah held out her hands, empty palms facing the Draconian. "Shh.. It's okay, we are here to help you." Getting to her feet, she slowly made a few advancing steps. "Who did this to you... Do you know?"

Enki stays on his knees, watching Asherah and the Draconian, knowing that it's probably not best to move a whole lot near something so strong and so utterly terrified.

For a few moments, the brown Draconian sat there, her chest heaving up and down as she stared at the two of them. Several moments passed as she studied them warily, looking as if she were ready to turn at bolt at any moment.
Soon, she seemed to have calmed down a bit, and said, "You . . . you must help me to get to the village . . . I have to warn them."

The damn thing crept up on them overnight, and now it was everywhere. But these guys were trained- they could reach their positions at a moment's notice, in the dark, one hand tied behind their back. Sure it took a bit longer, but within ten minutes they were ready for action, weapons primed. The captain did not like this, and thus he was set for it. But then... everything went quiet. And they saw shapes. 'What the hell... is this?' Everyone was stock still, waiting for something. The only thing one could hear was their breathing, and even that was soft and barely audible. Whatever came out of that fog, they'd be ready to shoot it.

"Alright, can you walk?" Walking to her, Asherah lent out her hand and gently touched the Draconian's back. "Do we need to act as a crutch for you? I'm just here to help."

Hugin the Raven The damn thing crept up on them overnight, and now it was everywhere. Silence reigned. Then, in the direction of the ocean, a dark silhouette materialized slowly, walking towards them, stalking slowly as it drew closer to the boat. It got closer, gaining definition as it did so . . . and finally, a Draconian stepped out of the fog. Well, what a relief. This was their island, after all. There was no reason to be alarmed . . . . . . Except for the fact that the creature's flesh was burned and seared beyond recognition, so much that a good deal of the creature's blackened skeleton was visible beneath areas where the skin, muscles, and organs had been seared away. The thing looked at them with, empty, blackened eyes sockets . . . and let loose an ear-splitting roar, moments before leaping towards the nearest man with its claws out . . .

They heard it before they saw it. It moved through the fog, walking onto the ship itself. Turning toward the sound, some of the soldiers lowered their weapons for a moment... then raised them again as it came into view.
Yes, it was a Draconian, but they soon found out that it was a ******** one. And it was crazed as well, because it jumped towards one of the soldiers in an attack. The roar was deafening, and they all winced before the attack was presented.
The guy that was attacked did not hesitate to move out of the way- or at least, try to. His right shoulder was torn into as he rolled, and the guy had a grimace on his face as he fired from his now prone postion.
Three others followed suit as 7.62 mm rounds were pumped into the Draconian. He was already half-dead- now it was time to put him out of his misery.
That was, if they could.

The Draconian sprawled across the boat deck after its target had rolled out of the way, only able to score a glancing blow with one of its claws. Snarling, it then tried to push itself up to attack again . . . but it collapsed as a relentless barrage of bullets ripped into its already tattered flesh. A Draconian's scales, though they provided moderate protection from bullets, were useless after they had been burned to a crisp. It only took a few seconds of continuous fire before the creature stopped moving.
It seemed that though this fog was ominous, whatever threats it held were eas-
Without warning, another Draconian, this one possessing a bloody gaping hole where it throat had once been, reared up over the side of the boat without a sound to plunge a set of sharp claws through the back of a man's neck.
As this one climbed on to the deck, more shapes appeared within the mist -- seven more mutilated monsters -- stalking towards them.
Things did not look good . . .
