((Brian))
Like usual, Brian was grooming himself obsessively, making sure each strand parted a certain way. His canvas jacket and black pants were newly pressed and clean, and his tight white shirt showed a little muscle. You know, for the ladies. He let down his green knapsack, employing both hands to tame his unconditioned locks. Dipping them into Heaven's Well, he ran them through his hair and toussled it a bit.
Despite his extreme desire for perfection, Brian was decent-looking as is. His 5'8" body was well-toned from training, and though he was a little stocky, he was surprisingly fast. Especially when he used his..."full potential". A little smug and self-centered, he really focused hard on his work, more for personal achievement that anything else. His ruffled blue hair is natural from birth, of course...Yeah, right. Couldn't be farther from the truth. His hair's been grey ever since he discovered his power...The dyed locks do match his ocean-tinted eyes, however, and most girls find him attractive, until they have a conversation with him.
Though you wouldn't expect it, he was really quite suboordinate. Cracked under pressure. He hung around with the leaders, trying to soak up as much action and advice as possible. In fact, most people at the SSM would say he's a teacher's pet...a kiss-a**, if you will. In truth, he never really tried to be one, he was just, well, not too confident. He loved assignments. They gave him things to do and ways to push himself. He'd only been a member for about two months, but already he'd moved up to the rank of Pawn, 2nd class! On top of that, he'd already been given some big-time tasks. His current assignment, however, was an odd request. They wanted him, with his "talents", to go into the future and find a man by the name of Migas. Apparently, he knew some huge secret about some other secret involving a whole chain of secrets that somehow link to a secret. It's all classified these days.
Oh, in case anyone was wondering, Bryan was a time mage, and proud of it. 40% Lonarian, his powers shone clear as day, and he barely had to work for them. Learning new ones, though, was another story. He couldn't do much yet, but what he knew, he had mastered. [I can't put up his development until I find my effing book =( ]
Backing up to the assignment desk, Brian let his damn hair go and focused on the task at hand. He needed to pick up his gear and get ready for a hugely draining spell. 1,740 years into the future? Not exactly a cakewalk. But, he was the only one that could go. If only he could take someone el-
WOAH WOAH WOAH! Babe alert! Huh? He's never seen this beauty before! She stood slender and pretty, with her own set of dazzling hair, and...Okay, well, one arm works too...heh. Time to turn on the charm. Hasn't been ages since anyone made it past Serpent Cave.
Remember, first impression. First. Impression.
Jumping in front of her, Brian smirked and gazed in her dazed eyes. (She was totally digging him!) As suavely as possible, he spoke the soothing words,
"Hey, stranger!"
Oh, ******** come on. Not again! He wanted to sound cool...not like a cowboy...damn. Another one lost, for sure....

His voice ripped her out of her own confused and actually quite amazed thoughts. Already on edge from before, Kali jumped about a foot into the air, letting out a short but shrill squeal of surprise. She had meant to land on her feet, however they flew out beneath her with exhaustion from walking and she landed on her butt.
"AAGH MOTHER-" She cut herself off as pain shot up her tailbone, and tears of pain came to her eyes. "Oh this is SO not my day! First the snow, then the cave, then the freaking cow on the screen and now my arse hurts!" She groaned to herself, then noticed a pair of legs in front of her. She followed them up to the face that accompanied them, blinking. He was kinda cute, not that she cared. It was another human, jubilations! Quick! Polite conversation!
"Who the hell are you?" She asked bluntly.
Well that scraps the polite plan. Three months away from any human contact hadn't done well from her already rusty manners. She immediately smacked her own forehead(mentally of course) and stood up, wincing a little. "Ah, er, I mean uh...who're you?" She rephrased it, to sound as polite as she could get it. Along with her butt, her left wrist was killing her, she must have landed on it. However with one look at the absense of a hand sticking out of her sleeve (even if it did look like her arm was there) she was reminded of a painful fact. She didn't HAVE a left wrist, she had forgotten. Shaking her head she looked back at the boy, waiting for an answer to her less than polite question.

Whew...she fell. That means he didn't look like a major a**!
SCORE! I mean, um, help her up. Yes.
He reached out. To the left arm. Ugh, what a fool! Okay. Right arm. Yes. Good. Reaching out, he introduced himself, trying to salvage whatever appeal he had left.
"Me? I, uh, I'm Brian Castings, Pawn 2nd Class of the Secret Society of Magick Army. I specialize in time-space continuum abilities and have advanced to level 13. My war credits include 22 kills, participation in the Scar Bridge skirmish, and I'm also the resident teacher on swordcraft here. I am 18 years old, and will be 19 this October. Nice to meet you, civilian."
Ouch. Wrong person, wrong introduction. He was too used to assignment protocol. This was a friend, and possible ally. He had to start treating her like one, or else he'd never sco -, uh, befriend her. "Just be yourself," thought Brian. "It's not so damn hard." With resolve, he tried again, this time much more casual.
"Uh...but you can call me Brian. Yeah. Do that. That sounds cool."
She was propping herself up kinda funny. Almost like that missing limb was still doing its part in keeping her body off the floor. She looked like she was freezing; the Snow Coast'll do that to ya for sure...
He had almost died trying to find this place. It was a wonder she made it here in one piece. Iron will, huh. Like his dad. Only difference here is that she's alive, and he...well, he's watching from upstairs. Yeah.
Whoops! Uh, shake it off, Brian. Look cool, no tears, and help the girl up. If she grabs your hand, that is.

But Meaty wasn't a fool. Okay, well he was, but he would kick her a**, flame or not. Rob, still clutching his gut, yelled out strained commands to the beefster. Meaty obeyed every single one.
"Meat! Grab her stick, and break it. Then, show her what a man can do! ..and no, not what we did to Gloria here...that won;t serve you any good this time. Use your fists to do all the talking."
"Duh, okay boss-"
"YOUR FISTS!"
"...."
"Good."
Meaty advanced on her, muscles bared. Dodging your heated swipes, he faked left and right, eventually coming up quickly, meeting the business end of the stick with both tempered hands outstretched. He grit his teeth and somehow forced his way through the fire to the untouched portion of wood. Flexing, he grasped the homemade torch with both hands. You both tugged the flaming wishbone, hard, sparks sent through the air like a colony of beautiful fireflies. Gloria still lay on the ground, unconscious. You bore down hard. This was for her.

[Puzzle solved! + 50 exp]
The black metal slab clattered to the floor. It felt great to feel real air hit his lips, throat, and lungs. It felt like days since he'd breathed for real. The grate was cold and dark, however. A little ominous, too. But...you need to take risks, right? Gulp...

[Okay I'm gonna pretend that I know what that is...]
"okay...Brian it is..." She said, accepting his hand of help and rubbing at her left wrist. It actually hurt, like a ******** b*****d! "Um...what is this place? How did I get here? Pawn? Magick?" Her head was spinning, and she probably sounded like a moron who was prattling off random words, but she had a good excuse!!
...Okay, so maybe she didn't...
She blinked a couple times and shook her head, rubbing at her wrist again. "Sorry...one question at a time...Where am I?" She asked, looking around confusedly.

[You have to roll a D-6. If you win, then yay for you. Btw, this is only chapter 1 ppl, since chpt. 2 had the mcguyver thing. Which Robby won. It was a hard choice, but he won.]
((Brian))
She...didn't know what those things were? Jeeze. That sucks. Those things were like second nature to him. Ooookay, this may take a while. s**t. He didn't have the time to teach her anything. He had a mission! Damn, he hated to leave a pretty face, but he had to. Turning to the large oaken chest at his feet labelled "Brian C. (is ballin'!)" on it, he spoke as he pulled out what seemed to be...a small L-shaped piece of metal...and a medium-sized dagger...he tucked them into his belt as he fished for documents and first aid materials, among other things.
"Listen, sweetheart, if you want anymore answers, you're gonna have to follow me. And I guarantee you're not going to want to do that. I'm going forward in time. Yes, forward. Magic. You know, sparks and cool phrases, fire and thunder, that s**t...hocus pocus, "whooooo", ghosts? If you reallllllly want, you can come. But, uh...but don't tell a soul. Okay? I have never, and I mean never taken anyone on assignment with me. Way out of line, against protocol, and above all else, stupid. It's just not me. I'd highly recommend staying here at the Resistance base...basically, where we train people like us...until I get back. Go ahead, meet up with other people and help out. It'll do ya good. Or am I just too hard to resist?"
Flashing a "cunning" smile, he was oozing charm. Or, so he thought. The mission was dangerous; an extra hand might not be a bad idea. She was a low level, though...hm...he wasn't sure which head he was thinking with, but he wouldn't be opposed to her tagging along. He'd never pulled someone through a rift before...but it couldn't be that hard. Just a millenium or two.

Answers sounded good. And so did not being lost in the freaky building she knew nothing of. "Stay here my arse, I'm goin with you." She said, crossing her arms. "And I'm not two, I know what magic is..." She said, a tad insulte at the condescending attitude on that fact. She may have known slim to none aout what was going on, but rubbing it in her face wasn't nice... "And don't worry...I won't tell anyone. Cross my heart and hope to lose a leg."

[Yes and yes.]
CRRRACK!
The branch split into two pieces, both of you stumbling backwards with half of the original limb. Damn. You wanted your torch!
..but wait. He was screaming. Meaty was screaming? The flaming end must have landed on him! Looking up, you saw that it was definitely true; he was bouncing around frantically, trying to put out his newly aquired clothing fire. Rob, being as overlydramatic as he was, was too "crippled" from your blow to help, and so Meaty, eventually seeing the futility of his situation (and not knowing how to stop, drop and roll), ran off howling towards the Oasis. At least he had dropped the torch in all the madness, which was easily extinguished by the moist, fertile soil beneath it. You had won! You stood up to those creeps! It was about time that someone did something...
Meaty's voice still echoing in the distance, you look at Rob. He won't even lift his eyes to you. What a snake. As for Gloria...well, she's in rough condition. By the looks of things, and Rob's little exchange to Meaty, it seems she could have possibly been raped. You're not sure, but this could be pretty serious.
You hero, you.

So she was serious, eh...?
Having packed his knapsack completely, he now had the weapons, clothes, food, items, and information that he needed. Only...the kid didn't have anything. Hm. He didn't have any weapons to spare, so he gave her one of the ones he was planning on equipping. Pulling a small black sheath from his leather belt, Brian carefully handed over what appeared to be a small Kotetsu knife...one of those really flashy blades you see in Samurai movies and infomercials. You know the type. He handled it with great care. It was, after all, his most prized possession.
"This is like my child. The kotetsu will treat you well, if you do the same." Looking around for any eavesdroppers in the still alien caverns, he whispered, "it could save your life, so don't be afraid to use it, 'kay? Seriously. Don't. Lose it. Yeah. Don't."
And with that, he took off down a path to the right of the huge tree, cutting through a crowd of young children and stopping at a door. He was in a rush; he hadn't even given her a chance to respond; there wasn't time for that. He had to enter the anti-effect chamber in, oh, ten minutes ago.
Standing at the sliding door, he waved a small ID card in the air, which produced a soft ding. The door opened, revealing the sterile, thick steel interior. She had to move it or lose it.

Sasha stood for a second, a little bit shocked that she was still in one peice. Now that her common sense was coming back, she winced at the stupidity of her actions, but that was all forgotten when she remembered, what was her name? Gloria, something like that. Sasha quickly hurried over, fretting about what she shpuld do. She wanted to go get someone from the hospital or something like that to come and help, but there was no way she was leaving. "Hey, you! b*****d!" she yelled. "go get someone from the hospital or i will have the s**t beat out of you, got that?" Rob nodded mutely and stumbled away, a lot more fragile seeming now that he didn't have Meaty with him. Speaking of Meaty, what had happened to him? Sasha hoped that he wasn't too badly hurt, well ok, she did, but she did hope that he was still alive, then he could enjoy the pain of recovering burn wounds.
