"Pardon, let me rephrase that, it's not the position that is lacking value, it's the person they place in the position. Someone has to do it, but someone easily disposable. If it's someone they don't wish to lose, they don't make them a spy."

"Unless the reason they don't wish to lose that person is because they make such an effective spy. A truly expendible person is made canon fodder."
((Ah... and it all comes back to fodder... rolleyes ))

Shock wave passed silently through the streets, his hands casually pushed into his pockets. listening he hears voices up a head and quickly steals into a nearby alley way. looking around the corner he sees two people talking. one being ora and the other one, some one he hasn't seen before.

A.C. noted Shockwave's presence.
"Oh, Ora," she added offhandedly, "your spy is here. You can go now."

"Don't be silly," Ora chuckled. "I'm enjoying this far too much. And an effective spy, is only an effective spy after they have lived long enough to prove that they might not be simple fodder, but they're still expendable."

"Now that's just a matter of opinion," A.C. retorted. "Dependent solely upon your personal values and priorities, and you've gotten out of the realm of objectivity. No one can argue the subjectives."

"It all is. Everything is debatable. But you have to ask yourself, when one judges the worth of a spy, whose word holds more weight? The commander, or the spy?"

"Neither. It's the spymaster's word which counts, as the spy cannot know how big a factor she plays overall and the commander never knows exactly where his information comes from."

"Conversely, if their loyalty stays true, they should be kept as that much more valuable for their experience.
"But I think you thought faster than you spoke, Ora. Just how does the spymaster's word lending most weight lead to spies being recycled?"

"No, you jumped to a conclusion, I failed to comment on the first part of your thoughts because it would have been redundant, you know I disagree on that. But no loyalty can ever be trusted, and so it is naturaly safer for a commander to have many different disposable spies, than one "loyal" spy, who could have been feeding false information the entire time. If prince were to rely so much on an asociate, then they lessen their ability to stand, and so weaken their virtue....and excuse me for carrying on like such, I've been reading Machiavelli lately."
((don't ask me how Machiavelli's "the prince" qualified as british literature...but meh, it was still a good read.))

A.C. raised an eyebrow. "'First part'? There was only one thought. I have no idea what you mean by redundant and in disagreement of, because that simply doesn't follow.
"So are you going to explain yourself, or are you going to continue prattling about the job desciption? Because you and the general both have a tendency to do that, and I'm getting tired of it."
