Zaan watches in the shadows as the three enter his castle. Allowing his voice to echo, he speaks slowly. "Who dares? Who dares enter my Haven?" With a thought, he bars the doors again with shadows.

Genno hears the voice and cringes as it's crystalline tone reverberates though the air. He looks at his companions, telling them to stay put and be on guard as he marches ahead. He calls out to find out where the voice came from.

Zaan chuckles within the shadows. "I'm here, in this room. Can you find me?" The room is an ornately furnished hallway with no real place for a man to hide.

Genno looks around in the room. Seeing nothing but shadow or darkness, he begins to close the door, his eyes still darting around to locate the source of the voice.

Watching the man search, Zaan finally steps away from the wall, appearing from out of nowhere. "Now then..." he begins reasonably. "Better? Who are you?"

Genno looks up at the apparition. "My name is Genno, I come to slay the beast Hideki for what he's done to Kakashi and I."
He looked up unafraid and drew his sword, "Tell me where to find him.... or will you stand in my way?"

Zaan snickers a moment. "Stand in your way? Why would I do that? ...Ah. You believe me one of his servants, don't you?." Zaan shakes his head. "No, man. I am no lackey of Hideki. He doesn't even know of my existence, and I've been living here for as many years as he has." Then Zaan smiles, his fangs gleaming. "But if I did stand against you?"

"Well if you aren't his lackey, then I can allow you to live." He turned to leave the room, but an invisible barrier blocked his way. He tried attacking it, but to no avail.

With a wave, Zaan dispels his shadows. "...Perhaps... I'll accompany you. This castle needs emptied anyway." So saying, Zaan steps further into the light to allow his new companion to get a better look at him.

Taking in the apparition at a glance, Genno decided that he could be trusted... for now. He looked around, having no clear idea of how to get where he wanted.

Zaan closes his eyes, searching for Hideki's presence. "Four stories up. Come, I'll lead you there. The castle is...warded, and they aren't of his devise."

"Tell me who to kill and I'll do it." he stated confidently. Looking around, he waited until he could sense the presence of his former mentor. Finding nothing, he followed his companion further into the castle.

"Believe me friend, there will be killing enough to sate anyone. If it moves, it's fair game." Zaan draws his dagger and then makes an obscure gesture toward it and the door blocking their exit to the next room. "Follow me."

Throwing a magical bolt at a corner of the room, Genno causes a rat residing within the viscinity to detonate, showering the walls with bits of bone and gore. Embarrased by his actions, he sheepishly made the excuse "it moved..." and became determined to hold off on any further attacks.
