"He goes to the meetings, Tsuzuki!" Hisoka snarled, pulling away from the wolf. "He talks to them, he plans with them-- he uses his powers for their purposes." The cat knew that the accusations were true-- it was hard to hide things from an Empath... but at the same time...

Whoo boy. Straight down memory lane to that moment of anger yesterday. Tsuzuki sat up slowly, reaching down to carefully brush that same lock of hair from Hisoka's face. "I believe you," he assured the kitten gently. "It's just strange."

Hisoka calmed slightly at Tsuzuki's touch, sighing softly. He couldn't stay mad at Tsuzuki-- no matter how hard he tried. "Maybe he's not part of the Circle, but he helps them. He's part of that group."

"Mmm...." said Tsuzuki helpfully, continuing to brush his fingers over and through Hisoka's hair. "...Why'd he do it?" it was a difficult question, one he himself had barely a hope of answering. But Hisoka... had that extra option of Empathy.

Hisoka swallowed hard. "I'm not... sure," he admitted finally. "It's... hard... to tell with Tatsumi."

Tsuzuki nodded a final time, contemplating what the heck they were supposed to do next. They both knew full well there was no plot to follow. No obvious direction. But wherever Tatsumi was going wasn't the right way, he knew that for certain.
"I think I'll... try following him... or something... He's not into the whole conversation business, so maybe it'd be better to just keep an eye on him." It felt strange to suggest spying on a superior--no, Tatsumi. He'd never really gotten used to seeing the man as anyone other than a former partner... Never gotten used to having to listen.

Hisoka groaned as he lay back down on the bed-- not on Tsuzuki this time though. "We can't just spy on him. He's Tatsumi," Hisoka protested mildly. "He's..."
Hisoka didn't want to admit it, but part of him didn't like the thought of Tsuzuki following Tatsumi. One, it was dangerous. Two, Tatsumi cared for Tsuzuki--a lot--even if the wolf didn't realize it, even if the coon barely showed it. Three, it was more dangerous if Tsuzuki wasn't under protec...
It was that simple, wasn't it? But could Hisoka tell Tsuzuki...?
Curling up on the bed, the cat mewled unhappily to himself as he considered the options.

Tsuzuki shrugged uncomfortably, "Well we can''t just leave it alone..." he began before trailing off, considering the options one more time. Couldn''t let Hisoka do the following, he was too embedded in the Nest already. Worse, any interest expressed in the Circle''s doings might earn him an invitation to join it and that just... no. Bad.
"Besides, I won''t draw too much suspicion, right? Might make Tatsumi even more irritated with me but that''s not too out of the norm," finally he glanced down to see how drawn into himself Hisoka had become. Frowning, he reached for ward tentatively to brush against one of the soft, brown ears. "What''s eating you?"

The gentleness Tsuzuki showed him almost sent the cat over the edge as he considered the current situation. "I think... Tatsumi made a deal with the Circle," Hisoka whispered as he tried to think more like Tatsumi would, tried to tap into that well of emotion lying buried beneath Tatsumi's cold exterior. "For protection... for..."

He could almost hear a last word in the air. A word, a name, that he didn't actually want to hear. In a moment of surprising comprehension, Tsuzuki reached for ward and put a single finger on Hisoka's lips, telling him to quiet without saying a word.
"If Tatsumi's got something to share, he can do the sharing, ne? You don't have to do it for him. Besides, speculation isn't going to get us to the real truth no matter how much we'd like to think it will. Only way we're going to find anything out from that..." he trailed off, made a face, "Grumpy ... old... bear..." all right, insult generator not working this morning, "Is by getting him to tell us straight out."

Hisoka sighed softly. "Tsuzuki, Tatsumi's not going to tell us anything! It's not like you can ask him a question about what he does and he'll just answer! He keeps his own secrets-- you know that better than I do! It's not like he's going to change who he is just because it's dangerous..."

I'll just have to whine at him then, Tsuzuki thought of that idea, thought better of saying it out loud and remained silent for a moment more. "Which brings us back to following--that he's not going to change doesn't change anything. I mean--well--speculation's not working any better than it did a few minutes ago, ne? We need truth, whether that comes from his words or his actions... either way, we're only going to figure those out by first hand experience."
Trailing off thoughtfully, he poked Hisoka's nose gently, "You're worried," he commented offhandedly. "You shouldn't be."

Hisoka's glare at Tsuzuki's poking at his nose didn't quite detract from the cat's blush. "Why shouldn't I be?" he asked defensively. "Tatsumi's spending time with the Circle-- doing work for them, using his powers as a Kagetsuki for them..."

Tsuzuki laughed, "Yeah, but like it or not, we're his co-workers and he loves his work almost as much as he loves his money. He's not going to do anything to us--come to think of it, long as he's got some sort of voice in the Circle, they might as well have nothing on us."
Pausing, he blew a strand of hair away from his face, "Not that that makes it okay or anything," he added at a mutter.

Hisoka sighed. "They won't do anything to me... they won't do anything to you unless you make them upset. And it's not that simple-- you don't... you don't know what they've done to people, Tsuzuki!"
Hisoka felt that old feeling of helplessness rising up within him-- probably because he could see that he couldn't do anything to change the way things worked at the Nest...
A knock came on the door, soft and unassuming. "Hisoka-san~! raven-sama said that you should bring Tsuzuki-san out to meet everyone!" a soft, lilting voice drifted through the wooden frame.
