"Tadaaaa!" Laureth said happily as she placed plates with two perfectly proportioned omelets on the table.

Valts admired her handiwork. "Looks good," he said shortly.

Laureth beamed. "Well then, let's eat up!" she beamed, and she placed herself at the small table in the chair across from his.

Valts picked up his fork and took a bite. The egg was fluffy, and if he wasn't mistaken, there was cheese in the center of the omelet. "'s good," he muttered, taking a swig of the prepared glass of milk beside his plate.

Laureth beamed. "I'm glad you think so!" she said happily.

Valts glanced around the room as he ate. "You here by yourself?" he asked.

Laureth nodded. "Mm-hmm, it's just me right now."

"No family?"

Laureth shook her head. "Not here with me, no. My family is back home, in the city. They run a flower shop there." She smiled. "They were completely behind my coming here. They wanted me to learn about business and how to take care of myself. You see, I don't know if you've noticed, but I can be a little...airheaded," she admitted sheepishly.

'Gee, ya' think?' Valts thought, raising an eyebrow.

"So I came out here to prove that I can take care of myself!" Laureth said happily. "What about you?"

Valts swallowed and took a sip of his drink. He shut his eyes. "No family. No friends. Just kinda been wandering around, trying to figure out what to do. That's when I saw an ad for this town. I had been running an animal business on an Island off the coast of here, and I decided it was high time I came back to the mainland, so I brought my chickens here and took over the Poultry Farm down the road."

"So you really have no family?" Laureth asked, her face saddened.

"Yeah, but it's no big deal," Valts said, shrugging. "I've been on my own for a long while now. I can take care of myself."

"You didn't get lonely at all?"

Valts stared at her for a moment, his brow furrowed slightly, perplexed. '...Why the hell does she look so concerned?' he thought. 'She doesn't even know me...And yet here she is, making me breakfast and snooping around in my past. She's either just that compassionate or just that naive.' He shrugged. "Maybe sometimes," he muttered. "Nothing I couldn't handle, though."

Laureth beamed. "Well, if you ever get lonely, you can come see me here in town, okay?" she declared.

Valts paused for a moment and then took another bite of his breakfast. He nodded once. "Nn," he grunted.

(Sorry so long; just wanted to get to a certain point. I want to get them out of the house and toward the square within the next post or so with them. 3nodding )

Mae nodded. "It's good to meet ya Cliff." She said as she smiled back. "I'm Mae, innkeeper of 'The Dahlia'." After a few seconds of silence, she chuckled as she remembered what she forgot. "Thanks for helping me out, is there any way I could return the favor?"

Sean sat down at the indicated chair, blinking and looking at the people and nodding. "I'm more or less fine too, and they look like they're in a bit of a hurry for something..." he said as Jean busied herself.

Sean shook his head a bit. "I don't know, nor do I want to ask and find out..." he said, a bit afraid of the two angry people.

Jill nodded. "Yeah, I know what you mean..." she said quietly.

She fidgeted on the hospital bed. 'These things are always so uncomfortable...' she thought. She sighed and looked up at the doctor, who was digging around in her cabinet. Her eyes wandered around the room, stopping on Sean again. She smiled, her cheeks a tint rosier than they were before.

"So, Sean, did you get to buy any seeds today?" she asked, figuring she'd strike up a conversation while they waited on the doctor.

Sean didn't look like he was very comfortable in the doctor's office, and if Jill payed attention, she'd hear him mumble about needles on occasion. He too was looking around the room, his eyes catching hers for a moment, his face reddening some before he turned to look at his knees. There was a shy feeling that crept up when they locked eyes, but he couldn't quite understand it.

"Hm? Oh, no, I was going to get them after this. Though, I managed to get a much needed shower... The bathroom in my house is much more stable then the rest of my house," he said with a chuckle.

As Mae tried to put up the sign (she's short), she noticed a man & woman looking her way. "Hey there!" She called out, waving. "D'ya think one of you could help me? I'm a bit too short." She pointed at the sign, and then at the hanger attatched to a wooden pole sticking out over the inn's door.

Cliff turned to Maria. "I'll go help her, okay?" he said with a smile. "And while I'm at it, I'll see if she can cook us something for the festival."

He turned and jogged over to where Mae was. "Let me help you with that," he said with a smile, taking the sign from her and hoisting it onto his shoulder. Grunting a bit, he fastened the sign to the pole and then stood back to admire it. He turned to her. "There we go! All done. My name is Cliff, by the way. The woman over there," he said, pointing back toward the square, "is Maria, the mayor of this town, and I'm her assistant."

Maria nodded and smiled. "Alright," she said as she watched him jog up to Mae, Maria keeping her pace to a walk as she approached.

She caught up to him just as he was introducing them, and she bowed a bit and smiled. "It's nice to meet you, Mae," she said after the woman had introduced herself.

She laughed. "I was glad to get a shower this morning, too," she said happily. "My hot water was on the fritz in the beginning, though." Talking with him was fun; it was the awkward silences that made her feel a strange sense of nervousness in the pit of her stomach. She glanced at the doctor and then back at him. Leaning as close as she could to close in some of the distance between them, she whispered, "You don't think we're going to have to get shots or anything, do you? Because I don't know about you, but I don't do so well with needles." She smiled weakly. "And it'd be no fair picking on a cripple like me because I can't run away, you know?" She laughed.

"Actually, Maria and I do have a favor to ask of you," Cliff said in a 'now-that-you-mention-it' sort of way. "We're trying to get a small festival going in the square today, and we were thinking about maybe getting some food for the festival. Is your Inn equipped with a kitchen? If so, could we ask you to maybe cook something for the festival?"

The mention of needles made him shiver a bit. "I really, really, really hope not," he said a bit shakily. "But if we do have to get them, I'll do you a favor and take them first." he said with a bit of a smile. "So you can't say she's picking on you for being crippled."

She nodded, understanding the situation. "I might be able to whip up somethin' if I can find a pot in the kitchen an' if the stove & oven work." She stated. "The thing's probably ancient!"

When she mentioned the stove, Maria smiled. "I'll help if you need it," she offered kindly. "I'm not the greatest cook, but I'm still pretty good at it..."

Jean wandered back with a cart. "Ok! Now let's set that leg and get you fixed up!" She cleaned the wound and made tsk, tsk noises. She then bandaged up the leg. "There! You should be ok to walk with the stick. Now I think you both should have a shot to ward of evil chicken disease." She smiled and brought out two needles.

"S... shots?" Sean said shakily, swallowing hard. His face went pale as he stared at the two long, thin metallic needles. "... I think I'll risk evil chicken disease..." he mumbled, slowly starting to stand up to make a break for the door.

Jill watched as Sean started to leave. "Don't leave me here!! That's not faaaaaaiiiiir!!!" she whined, tears streaming from her eyes. She glanced around frantically. Her mailbox was in another corner of the room; no good. She had nothing to help her escape. She stared at the thin needle in the doctor's hand, and her heart skipped a few beats. "O.O;;;;;;;"
