Really? My moniter is so OLD, though! gonk Well, anyway, on my screen, that is a very odd color you used before for the mouth. It's too bright. And I don't mean like, light. I mean, it looks like hot pink. xD;;
I don't know if it's the same for you... But I think it would look much better if you used the dark red you had for the ribbons! I mean, while you don't see anything inside of her mouth, it still is the inside of her mouth. So it should be dark, right?
Sometimes, when you're not sure, you just gotta mess with the colors (one advantage to drawing on computer!).
.... You know, if you were really curious to see if my screen is brighter than yours, take a soft brush. Like airbrush or something. And just cover a blank canvas until it looks completely black. Don't use the fill tool, or a really big brush, and don't use full opacity... then send it to me. xD; If it's not completely black to me... then we'll know. xDD;;;

M O T T E K E ! as if I were to D I E !- - - - -XD It's a pastel pink to me. I'm pretty sure yours is, because for example, on my Remé image (<333333) on his jeans there was a dark brush which I assume was going over lighter areas. Here's what I mean: I brightened the image so you could see it better. But I'm sure it all looks black to you in the original XD But my screen is lighter, so the dark brush shows up. - - - - -

Uuugh Kimi, I am so envious of you xd You can make the character anatomically-correct AND look cute at the same time. whee I LOVE the shading style too, especially on her hair. I really like how it look partly-cel-shaded and partly-soft-shaded. And her skirt is extremely well-drawn. heart Althought, (no offense ^^) part of the the shading does look kind of dodge/burned--but in a GOOD way. (Because dodging and burning, when done right, can produce a gorgeous shading style very similar to yours.) But, if you don't want it to look like dodge/burn style, I agree with Moo about making the shading darker. (Try to have a higher contrast between the lighter and darker areas) And if you work with Photoshop, try to lower the flow of the brush. And as for the mouth thing, you could do something as simple as this: This gives it depth, and you can still make it look consistent with shoujou-style (Like MooMoo said) I'll shut up now. sweatdrop (Love your sig, by the way)

Here's something I've been working on: Sorry if the lighting is too dark sweatdrop I don't like the anatomy on the girl. It's really hard to make children look like children without messing up their proportions. ><

M O T T E K E ! as if I were to D I E !- - - - -Mage, do you draw the underbody before you draw clothes, or did you just draw the coat first and then add legs? Because it looks like you just drew her as she is. Maybe if you set out the anatomy first, you'll find it easy to work proportions in. - - - - -

Kimi: Thanks for the suggestion! But the sad part is...I did draw her underbody before I drew the clothes ._.' I really wanted to keep her at around 1:3 head-to-body ratio, because if I tried anything bigger than that, I might make her look older than I want her to look. But 1:3 ratios are usually used on chibi characters...so I'm not sure if it works with a more serious picture sweatdrop
And I think your picture is really good! I couldn't find anything wrong with the face, however, her (his?) neck looks a bit off. The line of the neck is supposed to be attached to the ear, I think.
Mel: Thankssss. The glowy bubbles are snowglobes...that magically grow on trees. sweatdrop And if you can see the snowman, you got good eyes. Now try to find the windmill xd

Well, I won't be picky with the neck. That sometimes has to do with style~ Although Mage is right--if you want it to be more accurate.
Hmmm.. Do you know what iit is that looks wrong to you, Kimi? Or does it just look wrong? xD;
Maybe you should try using a guideline? Just one down the middle of his face. Because I'd say the nose and mouth are a bit too far out. Use the guideline to line them up with his chin.
I did see the windmill! I would've pointed it out, but I couldn't remember what it was called. ( ^_^ );; (I honestly thought it was a buterfly at first) As for the girl, Mage, make her legs longer. They look the length of her torso, but they should be longer. About... half a torso more.... (maybe less)?
It shouldn't make her look older, because her body is already so small. If she does come out looking older, than try making the whole body smaller. Don't sacrifice the length of her legs because it doesn't go by the 1:3 rule, because then the body isn't in proportion. That's probably why you think it looks so off.
(Sorry I can't clarify wether the 1:3 rule applies only to chibis or whatever. Never used it myself. I think I might've heard of that rule one other time... ( ^_^ );; )
Right about now... I feel the need to point out that you guys... don't always take my word fot it. xDD;; Alot of this I'm just guessing about... It's what I would try. I don't know if it's really the right way of going about it, or if'll actually fix the problem. I'm a learing artist, too, you-know? D: Not to mention I can't see what something will turn out like until I've seen it myself. So if my original advice still doesn't fix the problem, and you're still stuck, then upload the sketches that you tried or whatever.... I can help alot more if I can see where I went wrong.. xD;;
Of course... you don't have too.... I'll understand.... *emos in a corner*

M O T T E K E ! as if I were to D I E !- - - - -Eh, I know about the neck thing XD I just didn't pay attention to it because, well, I didn't need to. Yeah, I'm incredibly lazy. I'm not sure why I don't like it. It just looks odd .___. Maybe it's like what Mel said and the facial set out is wrong. So I did another. I like this one better, though I got bored and added a badly drawn Allen. And, god, his innocence is an absolute whore to draw D: - - - - -
