Blaise was grateful for Tax’s comforting words, but when he laid a hand on her shoulder something felt strange. Tax soon stepped back and Blaise could see his embarrassment. He quickly left but she didn’t let him get far before she went after him and took the hand he had put on her shoulder in hers. The missing pieces seemed strange in her grasp but she didn’t let it show.
“It’s nothing.” She said trying to ease his embarrassment, “Nothing of importance. Please . . . your company is appreciated.”

He had not gotten very far, though he felt like he was running on wind, when he felt the tug of his hand and stopped cold in his tracks. The visions and sounds of screams slowly depreciated from his anxiousness and he was....not quite calmed, but strangely less wild. Tax's demeanor was yet again subdued, and not even by his concentration. But by her. Contact from her hand felt assuring and right, perhaps because of a general human warmth, but quickly he dismissed that notion. If one of the others had gone after him, would he really feel the same? He was starting not to think so. With her touch he was reminded of the sweeter side of the previous evening, and what he had thought he had seen in her. So, if she was really something special, she deserved the truth to why he felt the way he did of his phantom digits. To anyone he would tell the same story, but....not to the same extent. No. Blaise was someone to hear all the feelings behind it, even if he was not absolutely sure why. He started to speak as she continued to hold his hand, it turning slightly in her grasp, but could not look at her just yet.
"I....apologize. It is nothing recent; I have been missing the two for several years now. But still I keep them hidden as much as possible, if not for the strange sight of my deformity, for the shame behind their loss. It feels like shame more than anything else, even if someone were to argue with me otherwise. I had been in a village for a short amount of time, and a day came when some middle-ranking government officials thought in necessary to make an inspective sweep of the town. They wanted to see if it was worthy of 'Our Great Country's Name', with upstanding and loyal citizens. Meaning they wanted to be bribed sufficiently and given anything they asked for, of course. I had managed to convince a bakery to hire me, and when I had stepped out on their porch for some fresh air one afternoon I noticed that an officer was beating an old man in the street. Apparently, the offical had bumped into him and caused the elder to drop a basket he was carrying. I don't think the old man knew what the world had turned into around him, and cursed at the officer to watch where he was going and to be kinder to his elders. This made the officer furious and I ran out before him once I saw how badly bruised his victim was becoming. All I managed to utter to defend him was, 'No'. Only that, and in the official's high-strung rage he grabbed my wrist and cleaved my fingers with a swift knife. I believe he laughed victoriously as I fell to the ground, he may have even taken the ring and pinky as his prize. I was too focused on trying to stop the blood within the wrinkles of the dying old man's robe to remember. And soon I blacked out, but I don't really think it was from the wound. I tried to resist, and was corrected. Since then, I haven't tried again to be even a little heroic....though the things I have been seeing have gotten worse and worse. I have been slowly accepting my death and helplessness, and I hate it so much. After yesterday's arrest, I was ready- then for some strange coincidence, saved. Like hope was keeping me on edge until the very end to pull me back up again."
At this point, he had turned around and looked softly and fondly to Blaise. Though he knew that she was still very sad, she was still especially beautiful....and in a way that surpassed the physical. She did have something more to her as well.
"I, didn't mean to make it seem like it was just my hand that bothers me. I am certain I can start to accept now that it is how people are treated in our homeland, and I should do something to aid in stopping it. Conquer fear and adversity, like you do? Death will plague all of us....from the freshest to most ancient wounds. But for as the many deaths we experience, and while they should not be forgotten, will not also new relationships bloom in their stead? Every new beginning comes from another's end. I would like to end this chapter of my life, if you will help me regain my bearings. In this moment, right now, I believe I could make a difference for you."
Such a peculiar strength in message towards a young lady he barely knew. Yet as he had talked to her, and realized things by the reflection of her eyes, the importance of his statement beamed. Hopefully, Blaise would not be put off by the degree of his honesty. But this was the purest form of it he had ever expressed, to anyone at all....

Tax’s words were beautiful. There was no other way to describe them. They were pure and though simple were filled with meaning. Blaise did not know how to respond, knowing that she herself could not have brought those things to words. She realized that these words brought feelings to her. Something she had never felt for any other person.
“Your sincerity is beyond that of any I have felt from any acquaintance.” She said softly, peering into his kind eyes, “Though death is inescapable you should no longer wait for it to come to your door. You are now safe here and to what I believe you are well capable of bringing this same feeling of comfort to others. Living through warfare is difficult though, Tax. Would you be ready for sights and memories beyond the forgettable? I do not deny you have seen these things already, but I never want to see such a kind heart torn by tragedy. I could not forgive myself if something happened to a friend due to a fault of mine.”

It took awhile for Tax to reply. The smile that had spread so graciously to his lips made him feel as if any utterance would break it, and he wanted to bask in her message for as long as he could. He had loved her usage of words such as safe, comfort, kind, and especially friend. Tax brought up his other hand to clasp hers that clasped his, to create a bond between them as he finally spoke. His heart was more warmed than the last time he could even remember, and continued to indulge her with kind eyes.
"I have developed a way to cope with this life we live. Without it's help I would have gone mad a long time ago, but I suppose nothing compares to the state of true peace. Peace. Imagine how many little children must not even know what that is? We should show them one day."
After his small bout of introspection, he leaned close to whisper in her ear.
"....But if I could stick by you, I believe that would be all that I need."

Chrono looked past Rosette's hair to watch Tax and Blaise talk. He certainly did seem to have a way with words, whereas Rosett would be more likely to try and beat sense into others. It was none the less comforting to hear.
A loud sniff from Rosette returned her to Chrono attention. She looked up at him, her eyes puffy and red as she wiped them.
"...What...W-What if Jacob is in one of them...H-He'll die too!" she asked him desperately. Chrono pursed his lips and looked away. It hurt him so much to see her in such a way, and to be unable to do anything to truly comfort her.
"...Jacob...he's too clever a person to be caught and thrown in one of those places! You know that!" Chrono said, trying to sound opimistic.
"Not with his addiction to reading...."Rosette mumbled. Chrono had never seen the room she'd shared with her brother as young children, there'd been books hidden everywhere. Literally.
"Then you shouldn't dwell on what you don't know. You'll make yourself sick worrying about him like this."
"But I can't help it! He's my little brother!"
"And I'm sure he at least smiles when he thinks of you, shouldn't you do the same?"

Blaise’s hands felt warm inside Tax’s and she wished that time did not have to pass. She wished that she could stay comfortable in his presence for as long as she could, but knew that there were other things to be done. When Tax bent low and whispered in her ear, for a reason she did not know, she blushed as if she were a two-year-old girl being kissed on the cheek by a two-year-old boy.
Not entirely knowing what he meant by ‘sticking by her’ she said, “That will be fine. Please excuse me. I should probably talk to Rosette for a moment.”
She let go of his hands none too hastily. When her hand was no longer touching his Blaise began to feel something strange. Could she possibly have feelings for Tax? She shook the thought from her head. Being emotionally connected with someone could be disaster for her fragile soul if something went wrong. There was too much to bother with, though she longed for the embrace of another many a time. She decided that Tax should remain a friend and nothing more, but her more affectionate side said otherwise. Unsure of which side she should follow she pushed these troubles aside and walked to Chrono and Rosette.
“I suppose you don’t really want to hear much from me right now, but you must. There is much you have yet to learn and understand but accepting this will be the hardest. May I say a word? Please, Rosette, do not cast me aside in these matters. It’s not that we don’t care, we just don’t have a choice.”

"Say what you want..." Rosette said bitterly,"I'm listening. You'd better take advantage of it."
"I think it'd be good to explain this as best you can. "Chrono agreed. "This is a lot for her to take in right now."
"Chrono, are you taking her side?!"
"No, I understand what she's saying. I may disagree and be upset by it, but I accept it, as should you."
"I can't accpet it when one of those innocent people could be my brother! I was better off before you people 'rescued' me! I was caught because of a tiny fluke! It won't happen again!" Rosette shouted, standing up and stalking off.
"She won't go far... she just needs some time to vent." Chrono said before Blaise tried to follow."I know her, just leave her be for now..."

Blaise sighed heavily and shook her head.
“Is she always like this?” she asked Chrono, “Is she always so . . . unwilling to listen? How can she not understand that she is not the only one who has lost someone? She speaks of fears of losing her little brother because we cannot make a run tonight when she knows not that I watched my little sister nearly die as a result of a mistake during a mission. If I cannot explain to her that she is not the only one who has lost someone then you must Chrono. And while you’re at it tell her that I will find her little brother . . . tonight.” Blaise turned on her heel and went inside her room, putting her boot knives and her sword in their rightful places. She put several other necessities in a small sack and put her stave in its sling across her back.
Before she left she said to Chrono, “I will not leave until night but I need the day to do research to find him. I cannot just leave without a destination. Expect me in the morning.” And with that she sprinted off towards the Maps Quarters.

He was sitting in his house picking out the rings when he saw Rosette run by. Setting the rings down, he stood up and went to his door. "Hey, Rosette! What are you doing here?" He called out. Walking out his door towards Rosette he could see Rosette's distress. "What's the matter?" He asked.

Rosette said nothing as he called ou her to her, nothing but a stead increase in her pace was her answer. She was in no mood for words now.
"Blaise, wait!" Chrono said, going after her. "There is more to this than you understand! More than you know!" He insisted, keeping up with surprising ease. "Joshua is not likely to come up at all under any of your watchful eyes..."

Blaise continued on listening to what Chrono was telling her.
“Well the help me find him!” she said stopping suddenly, “Please, Chrono. The reason for finding her brother is so she has no one else to lose. She has so much love and compassion in her heart for the ones that are dear to her and that only gets in my way. I cannot train her if she is at a constant worry and that constant worry also stands in the way of her understanding. If she has the people she needs with her the questions of ‘why me’ will lessen and I can get through to her.
“If I cannot get through to her then my training attempts are futile and all she will ever get is half of what she deserves and that’s a one way ticket to a mistake not only endangering her life but the lives of others around her. Hope is not tangible, Chrono, and it seems much to me that she needs something in her hands. You either help me or stand in my way. Heed my warnings, do not stand in my way.”

"Of course, I do not mean to stand in your way, only to make the path easier. Joshua has been missing for some time now. He was taken, not killed like many other who lived with them at the time... because he was like you. He knew and was capable of things most people are not. If he is not dead, he is not likely to be found in the most common jail cell. He has been missing for four years." Chrono explained, turning away as to not let Blaise see his own look of disgust in himself; for the events surrounding that fateful nice were mostly of his accidental doing.
"I do not believe he has slowed her down the least, on the contrary, he is her motivation. Rosette is highly emotional as you know, but I believe she would be nothing like she is now if she did not believe he was alive. In fact, I would not be surprised if she thought ending her own life would bring them together faster. You say hope is not tangible, but Rosette's hope lies in him, he is tangible."

"Rosette!! Wait!!" He called out as he quickly caught up to her. He placed himself in front of her to block her her path. "What is the matter with you?" He asked. "You can talk to me about it. I can even give you advice about it." He said. "I may not look it, but I am actually quite old compared to the people here." Now he stared her right in the eye if she was looking at him. "You will not be the first to do this and I highly doubt it you will be the last."

Rosette dodged around him, not wanting to stop and talk. She was practically biting through her lip at this point from holding back the urge to just scream as loud as she could. Her pain and anger and frustration was building up in her chest like a monster that just wanted to burst out.

Her hands were taken from his ages ago, so it seemed, and still he idly stood to linger as Blaise sought conference with Rosette. That was a fine reason to leave, though a dismaying one. She seemed a bit eager to go. But not too much, aye? Blaise had stayed awhile in his presence, and that comforted him. But even with these good thoughts he misplaced that he was becoming lost in himself, and events stirred up around him that should be focused some attention. The bandages under his shirt were also starting to bother him. Scratching them briefly, he wondered if the scars on his back were well enough to just remove the wrappings without further trouble. Wait, no time for that now. Ahead of him, stalking and pursuits progressed and called his curious glances. Could he help? By the looking temperaments of the party involved, which included Blaise, he doubted so. With his grim expression of death, especially, Rosette would not want to hear anything he had to say- if he could think of anything. Still, at a steady and slow pace, he felt drawn towards the group ahead and decided to keep a concerned interest with respectful distance for their benefit.
