The Tall Dark Stranger I recently bought the 3rd ed nid codex, and was very pissed off. They took away the sniper rifles! crying On another thought, what do you guys thing of this preveiw of my conversion based army? Dude, I can see that now being a new strain of tyranids soon, considering the way they constantly evolve.

so who here besides me is dissapointed with the new tyranid range?
though i like the new lictor and genestealer (i love how they finally re did the genestealer instead of useing the second edition one still, makes it look like its part of the tyranid army now), the others leave much to be desired...
the new ravener for example looks to big and thick and not as sleak and slender and snake like as th old one..the new one dosnt really give a feel of it being a slithery speed creature.
the new zoantrope is nice, but its tail is too stubby and short. And though i like the desighn of its brain being exposed, it just seems to make him look...well...undead somehow.
the new tyrant guard dosnt look very much like a guardian monster, more like an armadillo or something weird like that, but not a guardian like it is supposed to.
the new hive tyrant.....i guess if i didnt already have a hive tyrant, i would like the new one...that being said, it looks too much like the second edition one..which im not to crazy about already anyway...the third editon hive tyrant i like better, though not as big and bulky as the new one, its thinner desighn and large head crest makes it seem more insect like then the new tyrant, which looks like a giant alien in some kindof bone armour....speaking of bones..im not crazy about the prospect of bone swords returning either....
and of course..we have yet to see the new carnifex..but from the estimated apperence lost 1 has given me before...its not looking good. The third edition carnifex gives a feel of like a large stag beetle or some other powerful insect, which really adds to the tyranid theme...the new one just looks.....odd.

Wow, the new Carnifex is pretty cool. But Micheal The Archangle, I totaly agree with ya. Most of the new nids I found dissapointing. I mean the new Tyrant is kind of growing on me, but those danmed bone swords! Rrrgh! Who's idea was that?!

Michael Archangel so who here besides me is dissapointed with the new tyranid range? Indeed. They were moving away from cheesy alien looking to more mutated and fierce things...back to the cheese. Sure, the new fex has tons of s**t to do, but...all in all the new s**t is just kinda gay. They seem to be going back to the genestealers with the brood lord and s**t. There was a reason they phased all that s**t out, because it honestly sucked. Oh well. I'm not planning on getting any new models except maybe a few tyrant gaurds. I do like how they turned out.

I've heard a positively scary rumor. One of the guys at my local gaming store mentioned that in the new 'Nids codex, if the cost of a carnifex is under 115 points or something like that, it can be taken as an elite choice instead of an HQ, so it's possible to have a 'Nid army with six carnifexes. Can anyone else confirm this?

Can anyone else confirm this? Yes, under the new rules, you can have an army of li'l guys, or an army of big'uns. I don't know the exact rules, but... Army of large nids would require less painting.

If I recall from warhammer fantasy and from Rogue Trader, M stands for Movement (in inches) ...Space marines in power armour used to have an M value of 4.

Wow. The brood lord sounds neat, but the thing is, does it look dumb?
And for the Carnifex, you mean that they're no longer Heavy Support?

Kupo-Sama Wow. The brood lord sounds neat, but the thing is, does it look dumb? And for the Carnifex, you mean that they're no longer Heavy Support? they can be chosen as elites if they cost less then 115 points. So yes you can now have 6 of them three elite and three hvy support...

Carnifex sprue pics!!! here are some tastey rule tidbits for you Tyranid players. Gaunts - slightly reduced in cost, Hormies no can have 5WS, 4S and leaping for the same points as 4WS 4S leaping in the 3ed dex. Termies are quite cool and WITHOUT NUMER lets you controle Table Quarters Don't remember about vicotry points. Genestealers - 5+ basic sv upgadable to +4, basic cost not changed, can have scout ability which means 6" SCOUT + 6" Move + d6" Fleet (yes they have it now) + 6"Assault = 19 to 24 move in a turn, which gives a good chance of charging in the first turn (I'm buying a box of Stealers). Warriors - preety much the same, more expansive ranged weapons. Biovores - shoot as an altilery but 1 shot for 1 biovore, all spores use blast marker, all biorores must shoot at one target. Tyrant Guard - no weapon options, Scything Talons + Rending Claws, the same stats, don't remember cost. Hive Tyrant - 0-1 winged, can't take Extended Carapace, for normal Tyrant this morph costs the same as Warp Field in 3ed dex. And the Warp Field itself is even more expensive with +2/+6 inv sv. Ant Tyrant can have only one power + synaps. Other biomorphs are at least 2x more expensive than in the 3ed dex. The avarage is about 10 pts for a morph. Don't remember about wings. Carnifex - you can take 6, 3 as Elites but under sucha limit that you can put only a nacked Carnie with 2xScything Talons and max 2 morps (the cheapest ones). 1 Carnifex per 1 Heavy Support. And, as in the case of the Hive Tyrant, the moprhs are very expensive. Zantrope - 3 powers, stats the same and slightly cheaper. Barber Strangler - 24" range, pinning and some AP. Spinefist - 12" Twin-Linked. Fleshborrer - 12", Wound Re-roll. Devourer - 18", Wound Re-roll. Deathspitter - 24" Venom Cannon - 36", penetration on open toped vehicles. All above info stole from portent...
