Under a thin cloak, Adrian O'Keefe sat in the driver's seat of a modest carriage. Inside the carriage was his associate's wife Elisabeth, and a little girl the name of whom he hadn't caught yet. Niklas was riding beside the carriage on horseback as they neared the city gates. A city guard stopped them and Adrian turned to speak with him.

Welcome to Laburnum sirs, and ladies. Might I inquire what business you have in the city?

My associates and I are meeting a few friends in town for a small party.

He leaned down to whisper into the guard's ear.

It's the little girls birthday...

Ah, I see. Well, enjoy your stay in the city.

Thank you, sir. YAH!

He cracked the horseman's whip in the air, and the carriage began to move again. Adrian steered it in the direction of the inn that he and his associates had reserved beforehand. When the horses had stopped, Adrian got down carefully, favoring his right leg, and opened the side door of the carriage with a sweeping hand gesture.

Ladies, welcome to Laburnum.

((I think I'll call the little girl Emily, but I'm not going to post for her tonight.))

Tiel gave Yuri a blank stare and an honest answer. "I don't know...I wish my hands could make something beautiful, but it's not what I want most..."

What she wanted most was impossible.

arrow Just inside the Temple of Light.

In weak, accented Eastern, Espa addressed Hoshimi," Nice to meet you, I'm Espa Monroe." She gave her a lopsided smile and helped her drag the man through the Temple of Light's gates. She peered around and called out in her passeable Eastern.

"Hello!? Anyone home? Spirit or otherwise?"

She nodded and tried to get her tongue around the name finallyy getting it after a try or two.. "Thank you for your help Monroe Espa" getting confused about the proper way of names. To be honest everything was confusing her at the moment.

Her own voice called out in perfect Eastern tho the voice itself was weak, the only thing she had eaten in the last two days being the rice ball Lao had given her."We seek a healer". She was ready to drop herself but she would remain concious till Tsai recieved help.

"The creation of something beautiful, well... Its overrated by people who want something to outlast them." Said the man that horribly mutilated something beautiful hours ago, "People who want their legacy to continue after them."

He flicked his wrist and another pin fell into his awaiting grasp. The fun part was sure taking a long time to arive; he had to keep his mind occupied by a damn piece of metal again.

"People who are afraid of death." He looked at the other two, "But mostly people who are afraid of themselves."

"They never realize that the one thing you can't escape is your true self though." He chuckled at his own predicament, "Its always knows where you hide."

*He calmly nodded at Tiel, and began to speak* What would you do to have your greatest desire? *He stands* Who would you employ to help you achieve it? *He steps back* What price would you pay? *he stood firmly there, awaiting an answer from the young girl*

((*laughs* Great one, V13. I dunno what is going to happen. We aren't really pulling her opposite directions, or tempting her, though in some ways we are. Just trying to hasten the inevitable?*))

((If I didn't know Rigel was a sadistic murderer and Yuri was a healer, I'd ask which of you was trying to play which role.

I'm just trying not to have Tiel give overly dramatic and cliche responses. XD))

"I'm not going to die anytime soon," Tiel said to Rigel, though most of his words were going over her head. They sounded beautiful, though, and depressing...

"I want to make a chair because I want to be able to do it. I want to live up to my father's expectations, and I want to be a carpenter. That's all."

Yuri, she understood. But the questions he asked frightened her. Was he...could he be...a spirit in disguise? She had better think of a good answer, then, and choose her words carefully. Spirits had a habit of taking things literally in fairy tales.

"I don't have anything to give that would be worth becoming a carpenter...at least, nothing I'm willing to give could begin to pay for that. I've worked hard, and I've asked my father to show me, but...I'm just no good."

*Yuri takes her hand, and holds it in between both of his* Tiel, you know what you heart desires you to do, and some people are keen enough to sense it also. But, whether you follow your desire is your decision. What will you do? Your true desire is not to be a carpenter, is it?

*Nicholai stood impatiently on the East Side of Laburnum, awaiting his hired guard. The mercenary was probably another brawn without a brain, he guessed. He had the worst luck in hiring them. His jade green hair rustled a bit in the breeze, and he spent no time fixing it back into its natural position. His robes rustled a bit too, but he didn't mind them. His anxiety was probably making the breeze. He just stood, Zephyrus in hand, waiting for Zhao Tan. He shivered a bit* Well, he had best be hurrying. His price is steep, so he had better be the best damned bodyguard in Laburnum.

Emily craned her head upward to look out the window of the carriage. She had expected Laburnum to be some kind of fairytale land, the great meeting place of east and west, but once you got over all the Easterners around, it was a lot like Cameliard. Still, there were some new sights to see...

When she got tired of looking, Emily sank back into her seat and began running over all the things she had been taught.

Zhao Tan walked down the cobbled roads slowly, noting that it was about that time to meet up with his employer. Everything had been arranged through his last employer who had apparently recommended him to another, and suggested a steep price. Tan didn't mind of course, since material comforts were always a good thing to have.

As he neared the pre arranged meeting place, his dark eyes flashed this way and that, looking for whomever could be the employer. He had a vague description and a location. Only one man matched the description, and he stood as if waiting. His intuition screamed the obvious, that this man was waiting for him.

With a resolute air, he walked towards the man, unarmed and unarmored aside from his walking stick. He stopped a few feet away, and pleasantly inquired of the man. "Excuse me, Nicholai Maxwell, I presume? My name is Zhao Tan, i've been sent to assist you."

*Nicholai nodded promptly, and said* Now, I assume you have been told of your payment, and the contract that comes with it. Your payment of 12,000 gold is to be paid at the front, and then you will not be dismissed from my contract until the mission is completed. If you break that contract, well, let's just say you won't be working for a while. Is that clear? *His business-like tone surprised even him. He waited for Zhao's answer, while palming the bag of money*
