A spot in the sky began tearing apart, as two massive scythe-like arms came through and dropped onto the ground below. It's white leathery mask shimmered in the sun while it's eyes glowing red searched for food. It was hunting time for this hollow. "I smell shinigami... a nice juicy one as well.." it looked around and sighted a lone shinigami sitting under a tree.Quote: Manthius

"..." Ugu shifted from the ground and stood up. "...." He remained silent as he stared on at the hollow's body. Scythes, some armour, and fairly lanky. The shinigami stared straight at the creature's blood-red eyes. After a moment he slid his right hand to Egeus' sheath and drew Zenmaru's sword from its plain covering.
"With the confidence you've shown," he began, "you seem to know shinigami."

Manthius stared into Ugu's eyes, it seemed that he had no fear of him. The 7 foot tall shinigami was brave, and confident in his abilities. "Tsk tsk tsk, I have seen several shikai, shinigami and I've noticed a pattern with the shinigami. All of you are the same, you all act all high and mighty until the moment I kill you.. with my scythes!". With that said, Manthius moved forward with his dominant scythe-like arm striking downwards right to the spot where Ugu was standing.

A scythe sliced into the shinigami's warrior garb and slid into the main's left shoulder. He, finding that dodging impossible, quickly made a decisive decision. This b*****d was faster than him--albeit by a small amount. The monster also seem stronger than any of the previous hollows he had fought before.
This had been the foe he had been searching for. This had been the hollow he was trying to find when he went to Earth with two of his students. The man made a quick step forward and placed both of his hands on the thick handle of his zanpakutou. "Taisha- Egeus." Howling his weapon's name he swung his sword toward the right side of the hollow's chest. Without waiting to see the result of that blow the man swung his sword two more times at his opponent's black body.

Manthius was not quick enough to react expecting that the shinigami would at least howl in pain after getting hit but this one was tough. Instead of howling in pain, he quickly brought out his shikai and hit the hollow in the chest causing a nice wound across the right side of it's chest. The two other slashes that were brought forward by the shinigami were merely parried by Manthius as he grinned watching the shinigami who seemed to be inferior to the hollow. But Manthius had already seen this pattern in other shinigami as well. A shinigami would only show there shikai if they were struggling against a hollow, and in this case, that was exactly that.

Instead of backing away, Manthius decided to meet Ugu head on, it swung it's right dominant arm across aiming towards the abdomen of the shinigami and then with the other arm, he drove it down toward's the other shoulder opposite the one that was hit before.

Blurring, he shifted his feet to fly beneath the hollow's scythe-like right arm. The massive 7-foot tall man swerved along with his feet and was behind the hollow within a quick blurring step. But the man didn't strike. He quickly shunpo'd backwards and away from the exposed back of the hollow.
"... Chishio Sakurifaisu." Furiously the man made three quick swipes into the quite empty air. However, if his odd technique worked, the life blood within the hollow would soon find itself streaming out of its fleshy confines. Through the slash at its chest, if the technique worked, a massive thrust of blood would spurt out and meet the shinigami's lengthy blade.
As he did this quick dodge and counter, blood seeped from the gash given to the shinigami's shoulder. The man refused to acknowledge it, though. Tending to it would have to be done later, where and when he wasn't fighting a hollow.

Nothing occured for a few seconds. Manthius nearly laughed at the pathetic attack that Ugu had just performed. "Was that your shikai's ability? You got rotten luck if so, because that ain't gon' help you much against me!!" it laughed uncontrollably. It suddenly stopped and sent his arms to the side revealing his mask. His red eyes stared at him with a thirst. "If you want to run, this is your time, shinigami!!"

Manthius took no time for talk after the last phrase, he quickly moved forward raising it's right scythe-like arm and slashed it downwards toward's the same shoulder he had hit awhile ago. As that was done, his left arm was already ready to follow the right and stab forward hoping to puncture the shinigami.

Ugu's left shoulder was, again, hit by the monstrous hollow. He winced, but didn't lose focus. The man smashed forward, aiming to get close to the hollow's body. By doing this he dodged the second blow and rip himself away from the scythe that had embedded itself in his shoulder. With the same amount of remorse that the black monster was showing, he swung his sword in quick succession--aiming to rip open the hollow's stomach with his blade.

Manthius repositioned it's four legs and leaped back avoiding the continious attacks comnig from the ambitious shinigami. It seemed the shinigami still had fight left in him. Manthius was patient, he knew his kill would eventually fall, and make him more powerful thanks to all that reiatsu bundled up in that large package of flesh.

With the swipes missing, Manthius landed on his hind legs, kicking them forward and stabbing both his arms forward aiming to penetrate the arms of Ugu and pin him against a tree making him easy prey to feast on afterwards.

A thick gob of blood spewed from his mouth as the hollow's two legs smashed into his chest. He was pinned and robbed of air, but refused to allow himself to stop his attack. Still focusing on his fighting he smashed his blade, now resting in only his right hand, toward the hollow with three fairly weak strokes that fell without any vengeance in their bites.
As he cut forward, though, several small cuts on his chest were filled with a small red paste.

The hollow merely movwed its head away from each stroke before he got off of Ugu, knowing that he was wide open for an attack and could take some serious damage.

But the kill was already set, the shinigami was weakened, it was about time to feast. Manthius decided to heal up it's own wounds before it would finish off his kill. The wound on the right side of his chest began repairing itself, slowly but steadily. Manthius did not keep it's eyes on it's prey though, it knew that it was finished, it would die from the wounds it received if it ran and if it tried to attack, it's attacks would probably be slowier than usual due to that injured shoulder.
