Alec sadly looked over and held out his hand to accept the item. Staring at it in his palm, he squinted his onyx eyes until he realized just what it was. "Aw, wha' th'ell man." He whined again, poking at his prominant eyebrow ridge in a futile attempt to reattach it. He wasn't even sure if even had eyebrows anymore.

"This fookin sucks." The punkster sighed heavily and stared at his legs again, frowning deeply as his picked at the grin bits of foliage that stuck out from the barky areas. He had to gather the nerve to yank one out, automatically regertting it. The sensation was similar to plucking out one's eyelashes or a strand of hair, the stinging making his eyes water a bit more. Regardless, he continued picking at them further.

"At least a' still go' all me limbs.... no' countin' me toes." He turned suddenly to Nita, attempting a small optimistic smile that definetly was filled wit ha mix of naive misconception and a glimmer of hope. The expression would no doubt look a bit weird at first glance. It could've been worse, right? I could be in a wheelchair or fat as a... pig.

Nita hid a smile. "Yeah, I don't think there's a hole there anymore, sorry." She had to admit, Alec was one of the few people she'd known who could pull off the eyebrow-stud look without looking stupid.

She echoed his sigh, leaning against the wall and fiddling with the end of one long braid. "No kidding," she agreed. "It's not that bad though, really." Yup, those were definitely leaves. "And you're still breathing air, and you've got.. some of your mohawk left."

Alec tried to lean back as well to mirror her position, stopping short as a stiff shark fin struck the surface of the wall and prevented him from going any further. Looks like he'd have to start sleeping on his side or stomach again from now on. "Ye think so?" He pouted, looking to the red panda girl as if her opinion about his looks actually accounted for anything. He poked at his face a bit more, finding it foreign and just plain out-there.

His face just about dropped when she mentioned his mohawk. SOME?!

"Ye fookin kiddin me!!!" He nearly shot up to his feet, stumbling to the side against a wall in pure dizziness and instability on his tender feet. He breathed deeply and rubbed the side of his head again, wishing he was back in his bed right about now. The bathroom looked so far away, he'd never make it to teh sink in time.

"It's really not," she repeated. Besides everyone on the island looked weird in some way or another, one of the 'lucky ones' or not.

s**t s**t s**t. Nita jumped to her feet before she knew what she was doing. Hopefully Alec wouldn't fall over and need to be hauled into bed or something. "... Sorry," she whispered, covering her face with her hands.

Alec turned and looked over at Nita, staring at her gestures for a moment. It was a little weird seeing her act so genuinely concerned, it didn't unsettle him as much as it surprised him. He always knew she wasn't just some bratty prude anyways, it was just fun telling her she was one to get a reaction.

"'Am sorreh." He surprisingly corrected her, clenching his teeth as he almost tip-toed over to his bed by himself though he couldn't say it didn't hurt like hell. "A' think a'm joost g'nneh go t'bed... again." The shark boy mumbled, feeling the urge to sleep off the pain now that the tylenol was starting to kick in. As he passed her on his way towards his bed, he stopped and hugged her arm. "Thanks." The gesture might not have been as outgoing as he usually preferred and quite possibly could've been mistaken for him requiring her physical support for a second, or maybe just the painkillers talking, but the thought was there.

Once he'd reached his destination, he flopped down onto his side. He missed the pillow entirely but it still felt better to be laying down instead of straining already-hurt muscles. Closing his dark eyes, he could feel the odd sensation of the flaps of skin on his neck moving once and awhile, pulling air inside along with his nostrils. It'd take awhile to get used to, for sure.

Nita nodded slowly, eventually lowering her hands. "That's probably a good idea," she said. "Get some rest..." The girl bit her lip and almost jumped away at the minor hug. "You're welcome," she said solemnly, giving him a tentative pat on the shoulder.

She made sure Alec got into bed okay and even pulled a bit of sheet up to cover him. Finding him already asleep, Nita fled to her duplex and collapsed into her own bed. Thoughts clamouring for attention, the red panda girl forced her mind to leave her alone for a while, or perhaps only plague her with dreams. As long as she could sleep.

How Could I Be So Stupid?

Alec awoke with a start, rolling over instinctively in his bed though he stopped himself before his fin could get caught in the mattress underneath him. He breathed hard, rubbing at his eyes as if he was trying to force himself out of a dream. He was thirsty again, the glass of water Nita had fetched for him hadn't been enough to satiate him, it seemed.

He asked for this. He really did.

All the lamenting over the stresses of dealing with and helping people through their tough times, he was so stupid to think that karm wouldn't get him back. It was like he thought he was immune for awhile. He was so stupid.

With a depressed groan he pulled himself to a sitting position and stared down at the floor. A couple of browned leaves fell out from under his sheets, fluttering to land beside the rubbery mass that was his feet now. Giving a sad sigh, he rose and went to wash up without once looking into the mirror in the bathroom for fear of what he'd see. When he finally emerged, he draped a towl over his head and punched in the number to Amaya's duplex.

Amaya still sat on her doorstep in an awkward crouch position, her door open as her tail lay behind her and into the room a couple of feet. The wolfman still wasn't showing up... and she was worried. It had been her fault he got caught up in all this. She had been so stupid.

A large hand came up, going over her eyes as she lamented on her own stupidity and guilt. But she didn't get very far in thought as the com attached to her wall a couple of feet away buzzed. Yellow eyes blinked, thinking it might be Ambrose or one of the staff. Least not make them mad again... they might hurt someone else.

Slowly the green iguana stood and manuvered herself around to the small box, pressing the button to speak. "... Hello...?"

Alec held the button but said nothing for a moment, opening his mouth to speak but closing it again. Finally, he inhaled deeply and cleared his throat for a response.

"Ay... 'Maya?" He mumbled but managed not to croak out the words. Why'd he call her again? Or right. "Uh... wha' ye up teh?" As he waited for an answer he scratched at the back of his neck, irritated by the dry itch and the fact that the annoying patch of grey scaley skin had spread all over his body now.

She blinked, having not expected Alec of all people to contact her. Though last time he had, he had changed... and he didn't sound all too happy. But he couldn't have changed again already, could he? Hopefully not. "Oh, Alec... Nothing, really. Waiting for Ambrose to get back from the labs."

Amaya stopped herself there, not wanting to dump all of what happened on his shoulders. There was a pause, before her quiet voice came through once more. "What about you? You alright?"

Alec fell silent again. Deja vu. Whe nwas the last time he'd called her? The teen could recall it surprisingly well. Falling out teeth, general freaking out, yep it seemed he had a knack at bothering people only when he needed it. So he wasn't just stupid, he selfish too.

"Nothin'. A' mean..." He quickly chattered into the com system speaker, frowning hard on the other end as he changed his mind. "'Am comin' oveh, ekay?"

The girl blinked, staring at the intercom for a moment. "Sure, I'm waiting out on my porch anyway. See ya in a couple minutes." She let go of the button, but waited just inside the door just incase he said anything more.
