Your dragon winds up with a case of severe infection and actually may need an ichor transfusion. They are sick, weak, and ill. They still well could die. The dragonhealers find dragons willing to help. It's up to you whether or not the transfusion works or not; if the dragon does not survive the infection or the infection is caught too late, they could die. Recovery will still take likely a month after a successful transfusion as the dragon recuperates and is cleared to return to the Wings. DOUBLE OOF. - Brieteth will make a recovery, don't you worry.
