Mathilda grinned as she dodged out of the way, retrieving her dagger after it pierced the birds flesh. Moving around behind it, using the others attacks as a distraction, she dragged the dagger under the birds wings, pushing up pretty far.

This hit was more solid than the last and Mal was glad, ducking under a wing, that he had shaking his hands out. It was still jarring, part of him hoped it would always be jarring to swing a weapon against someone, but it was something he could do.

Of course, it was kind of hard to be heard in this racket. There wasn't really any sort of organization at all, which was fine, since they weren't a military or anything.

Actually, if there was organization, Ernst would probably be one of the people holding everyone back. So it was...kind of...a good thing. As it was, he was having trouble finding an opening. It looked like everyone was rushing forward, and, from the sight of it, doing a much better job than Ernst himself was doing. And he didn't want to hit any of the other Chosen, although he was pretty sure between the Mark and his lack of real muscle mass, they'd probably understand.

So he kept holding his shield up and tried to look epic. Unfortunately, he was a producer and not an actor for a reason. Mostly, he probably just looked scared.

Rob swung again at the same spot, but the monster moved at the last minute and the blade of the sword tinged uselessly off the metal feathers covering the bird's leg. "s**t," he muttered, preparing to strike again.

Briiva heard the thing land. Well, felt would be the more appropriate term. While everyone had been celebrating she had taken a quick power nap, so she saw this as rather rude interruption of those precious winks. Once she stepped outside and assumed a relatively safe position away from the bird however, she couldn't help but pause to observe the thing. She had never seen metal flow the way this did, and definitely not as smoothly. If it had been crafted, she could see the arguments that could be made that it was a masterpiece of aesthetic and effort. Still, it didn't seem very happy with anyone, and Briiva most certainly didn't want to see what it was capable of when it was mad.

Drawing on her bow once more, Briiva drew her weapon taught, sighting up her target through the puff of hot air escaping from her own lips. She wasn't sure where she should be aiming, honestly. If the thing was mechanical, as it appeared, the stress points and vital areas would be completely different. After a brief moment to think out her plan, Briiva decided to go for the knee. Mechanical or not, damage to a support joint like that would hopefully have some effect. Cold air stinging her cheeks, Briiva released her arrow, following it's flight path as it struck true. She couldn't help but grin, exulted by the thing before her and the fact that she and all the others were here, working together to tear it down.

It was so loud, yet ... not. The bird wasn't really making any noises other than the scraping of its metal parts against metal, but they were, whether it be the sounds of weapons hitting it or the sounds they were making as they hit it.

Zebulon was quickly finding he preferred the quiet of the lab.

Yekaterin
Cat's pulling her s**t together- game face is a go!

Cat savored the moment, sharing strength between friends … and then the building shook with the arrival of a more fearsome foe than any they’d faced yet. It was eerily silent, until the battle cries of the other Chosen broke that silence and spurred her brain back into action. She gave Beth’s arms a squeeze and traded a fierce, tight smile with her before she turned and restrung her bow.

She nodded to her fellow warriors and took up her place among the archers, her first arrow glancing off the side of one giant metallic wing. She looked to those beside her and looked to those rushing forward into the fray, these were the faces of her brothers and sisters in arms, some familiar, some foreign- but all of them desperate to bring back that sense of peace and calm they had savored ever so shortly.

Happy that she was able to dish out the first blow to the bird, Mercy picked up her hammer and swung at the bird's leg next, expecting to have some sort of giant feather thrown at her only to realize the dumb thing wasn't fighting back. Weird but she would roll with it.

But it was kind of stupid to just stand here. Ernst took a breath, and then pulled himself forward with a yell. "For Narnia!" he called, and he struck the giant bird, falling back again so other people could come behind his shield, if they wanted to.

Although, in all honesty, it probably didn't do that well covering multiple people, unless the other people were tiny. The birds - and this bird especially - seemed to mostly attack from above, considering, well, flight, so raising it would help a little.

Alethryia

Beth trembled as her reunion with Cat was interrupted by a bird, more gigantic than the ones they had been fighting, who apparently didn't take kindly to its smaller brethren being cut and stabbed and strangled and finally buried under snow. She gasped, "Why do I get the feeling we just met Mama Duck?"

She let Cat jump into the fray before her, trembling from within the relative safety of the lobby. But something forced her to her feet. Something compelled her to struggle through the barriers and out into the snow after her. Once outside, she saw the rest of them, several of her friends lobbing attack after attack against their enemy. Her eyes darted from Cat to Brian to Misha to Briiva, to those others she had helped fortify the castle with but hadn't overheard their names.

And she knew she'd rather stand by them even if it meant dying in the snow. Because then, she knew she wouldn't die alone.

She ran, following her friends even though the bird loomed terrifyingly tall above her and all she had was a strip of leather and the blessing of a goddess. She lashed out with a whip and, since it felt right, whispered, "O, Hera, watch over us."

Another solid hit with his sword and Mal gave someone else a little more room to get at the bird. There were, after all, more than thirty of them to hack at the soon to be dinner.

Maybe Boston Market would be a better choice, instead of KFC.

Once more Rob swung the greatsword, and this time he hit, the blade digging into the monster's flesh. "Yes!" With a tug he yanked the weapon out of its target and stepped back, preparing to swing again. He hoped Sid and Tara and Mercy were doing well; he couldn't spare a glance to look for them, not now.

It took him a while to think about the ramifications of this bird being here. You could excuse Ernst: giant behemoth birds were not really the kind of thing that left you room for philosophical thought, or whatever. But was it a future form of those other birds? Those things were already huge.

Was it their creator, or their parent? Asexual reproduction could totally be a thing in mythology! Or maybe - maybe, was someone making them?

That'd mean that they'd spent a lot of time making this one. But maybe this one was a fake.

Sure looked real, though. People with pointy weapons had gotten it to splurt blood, or at least something that looked enough like blood, and that Ernst wasn't willing to taste test. He jabbed his shield upward again, wishing that Erica were here to press up tightly to his back, or that Davor was here.

With his very muscular arm.

Times like this, he really wished that he was allowed to use a gun. He imagined they'd be more effective against these metal birds of doom.

Then again, maybe not. They were made out of metal. Might have just dented them.

Zebulon squared his shoulders, stared intensely at the vulture's wings, and let out a scream as he put his muscle into shield smashing the bird's wing as hard as he could.

Brian grinned as he loosed the next arrow. Not only was Misha at least bilingual when it came to angrily shouting, she seemed more than willing to tear headfirst into battle. So he liked a strong woman, so what?

His arrow struck the bird, but who knew how much damage they were doing? The sound of metal against metal was deafening, which made the buzzard's silence all the more unsettling.
