Doritos were extremely magical. Maybe they were the lucky charm they needed all along. For what amount of vine whips could stand up to the mighty flavor of Dawson's favorite chips? None.

Why did stone scarabs love Doritos? Where was the logic in this world? How could she find the answers to these existential questions? The answer was, none of it mattered because the hydra was back. She hightailed it out with Dawson, but as soon as they were safe again, she let out a gutteral scream of frustration. "Why can't we just have a god damned INVISIBILITY CLOAK? If we have to deal with nonsensical bullshit like this, we might as well be in a Harry Potter novel!"

She summoned Thaw off instinct this time, running for the monster to deliver a swift stab up into its jaw. If there truly was a bright side to all of this, it was that Maebe - without realizing it - was getting better at fighting.
She was accidentally getting stronger. The moment she realizes it will be the moment she lays down and stops moving.

Except he wasn't very good at stopping anything. The lionbull had maybe twice the ferocity of its individual components and just as much anger. Maybe it was the spirit of all those they had crumbled coming back for revenge.
