"Human Hireling funny." The orc gleefully proclaimed, grabbing his weapon and stood up.

Without any other words, he started out towards the farmlands.

"Thataway, I guess." Aelgeirr said as he followed after the Orc. "So....did your mother meet anyone new recently? Like a new neighbor or so?

(Working on the assumption that, as implied, everyone is following Thork...)

As the group would head outwards from the busier parts of Clearwell, the buildings would grow gradually more sparse, and within minutes, most of it was behind you as you stared at the sprawling fields, fenced off into different lots. If you came here a day ago, you would probably see lots of farmers and their livestock in the fields; less so right now. There were a few brave souls, but that was it.

In terms of 'abandoned' buildings, they'd be hard to determine, since so many people were staying indoors. There was a lot to choose from, be it homesteads, farmhouses, sheds, or other structures. Luckily, Thork, you would be able to know which ones are probably good to overlook, and you would be able to cut the search down to perhaps a tenth of what it would be without you.

You're not long into it, however, when a familiar face (to Thork) approaches, rushing across the field towards the interesting-looking party.

"Mister Thork!" the boy, Timothy Rhogers, would call out once he neared. He was young, ten or eleven years of age, and human, with dusty brown hair and freckles galore. "Hi, mister Thork! Who're yer friends? Have they come to protect us from the monsters?"

You don't see his parents around in his family's fields, as Timothy leaned against a loosely constructed wooden fence, peering at you guys through it. He didn't appear to have been working before you showed up.

Unsure at the meaning of the heavily armored elf's question, "Many people come, few stay. Fewer buy grain, eggs, milk from Mother. Mother say, new people awe-struck Thork friendliness. Some ask Mother hunt deer, turkey, moose..." He shrugged before changing the subject. As they passed every section of land; he would go into definition of every resident who lived there, their favored drink, and whether they knew any good stories. And being sure to wave to the courageous people in the fields.

"...Timothy!" He cut himself off at the sight and call of the young Rhogers. Approaching the child, he knelt down to be closer to his height. "Not Thork friends, Lairtes Hirelings. Hirelings looking for unused building. Think magic orb there, not in shrine... Thork think... Where Timothy Ma, Pa?"

"Oh," Timothy would respond rather flatly, looking from Thork to the rest of you and back to Thork. "That sounds lame. I bet you could beat them in a fight, all by yourself, Mister Thork!"

Upon asked about his parents, he would smile a big goofy grin, two baby teeth missing. "Oh, they're inside boarding up the windows," he would say, looking over his shoulder. "They told me I could play outside as long as I stayed right by the front door." He would look back at Thork. "I wanted to see if the funny little man would be back today, though!"

The orc shrugged his shoulders at the comment of taking the whole group, "Thork fight only to protect, and when drink too much. Hireling no harm people, Thork no reason to fight." Thork would then lean in to whisper to the boy, "No tell other, Thork took down Dire Bear last night. Hirelings no bear"

"Timothy refer to Shingy? Halfling bee keeper?" He would point to a field down the way. "Thork no like Shingy jokes"

"What? No, someone new. He had a big shirt and big shoes but was my size. I saw him come out of and go back into the woods yesterday. He looked funny, but he didn't look like he wanted to talk to anyone. I was going to try today, though," Timothy responded, with an air of bravery about him.

"Roughly what time was this? Also, was he carrying anything when he made his return trip?" and finally, since this was the only real lead they had, Aelgeirr asked it anyways. "Could you show us the path he took?"

Ambra awkwardly stood by while Thork talked to the child. She was not sure how to interact with children herself, and the orc already seemed to have some sort of rapport with the boy. However, she did listen in intently when the boy mentioned something interesting about seeing a new face in town. she waited to see if the orc could draw out more details before she tried stepping in.

A low growl of disagreement erupts from Thork's throat, after light-skinned elf suggested Timothy go into the woods. "Timothy brave, strong; parents need Timothy more than hirelings"

Truning his attention back to the freckled human child, "Hireling brings good point, though. Timothy describe funny man? And direct Thork hirelings to man trail?"

The buxom avenger gave a cool laugh and played it off like she knew all along as she followed. For the rest of the walk, however, she was mostly silent as she tried to process what little information she'd gathered to see if there was a missing piece to the puzzle in plain sight. No luck, but surprisingly one out of plain sight quickly appeared on its own in the form of a talkative child.

"Volunteers." she corrected coolly. "For a cause like this, I wouldn't dream of accepting payment. And certainly you, Master Timothy, must understand that size and strength don't win fights. Your most powerful weapon..." she explained, pointing to the child's head, "Is up here. If you're clever enough, even you could beat Mister Thork~"

To the rest she could only nod in assent to the group's decision. Chasing after this mysterious figure seemed to be the best lead they'd gotten all day.

Timothy would scoff at Mercy's comments. "Yeah. Mister Thork probably drove off all the monsters all on his own! That's how big and strong he is!" The boy would cross his arms over his chest and stick his tongue out at her.

The boy would then shake his head at Aelgeirr. "I don't know if he was. Maybe? The first time I saw him, I didn't actually see him come out of the woods, just that direction. The second time, I was mostly seeing where he was going, and it was into the woods." Uncrossing his arms, he pointed to a place along the woodline. "That's where he went into. My parents always told me that the woods are too dangerous to go into, so I was curious if he was coming back today or if he might have gotten hurt."

He did look thoughtful, but only for a moment. "Time? Well, that one's kind of easy, actually. I saw him at dawn, and he left around dusk that same day." Timothy would shrug, like knowing that was no big deal.

Finally, he would answer Thork directly. "I didn't see him very well, because it was kind of dark still, both times. He was wearing oversized clothes and shoes..." Though as soon as someone began to speak, Timothy would interrupt. "Oh! But he did look like he had yellow eyes and green skin, though! And it looked like he had a funny nose, like a pig."

"Sounds...feral. Not really my specialty though. Thanks for the info, Kid. Best to get yourself someplace safe." Aelgeirr would then draw his spear and head down the path that the young human had directed.

"Human hireling, correct. Mother not strong or big, but still win fight. Timothy have strong spirit; Not many winters ago, Thork only have this too. Mother teach Thork to wield steel. Mother make Thork strong with farmwork. Timothy show no fear make friend. Timothy work hard at farm. Timothy be strong leader one day." Thork smiled, but that would fade quickly with the memory of the question he has asked so many today. "Timothy, see Mother today?"

"Sound like goblin...Goblin no feral, dangerous, no feral." Thork said plainly

"Don't infer that I'm taking goblins lightly. I heard about one idiot who wound up covered in a swarm of goblins. He could only use his short sword and his family line nearly ended right then and there. He got some help from a cleric he was traveling with though. Still, are you guys coming?" Aelgeirr said as he continued down the path.
