If depression could take human form, Lenore might have been it. She gave a tired wave despite only having been awake two hours. "Hey, Zin. I know; it's ridiculous."

Preacher rolled her eyes. In fact, she rolled them so hard that she half expected them to roll right out of her sockets and bounce along to. Axel's shoes. "Web. Even iffin I swung that way, you think I'd pick that bright o' a popinjay? Hah! Though... he'd be a sight bit better of a choice then you. But that ain't hard at all." She flapped her hand dismissively towards Axel. She did, in fact, "swing that way". But since she was currently dressed in male attire (and had been for years), it seemed safest to fend off males by way of crass jokes. Abruptly, Preacher squatted down and wrapped her still-sore arms around her knees. She stared at Axel, secretly hopin her gaze would bore holes in his shirt. "I'm secruity," she said flatly. "'N we're suppose ta check up on tha workers to make sure they ain't slackin'. Somehow I heard the word 'slacker', and though o' you." She grinned evilly at Axel, enjoying her poking at him. "Welllllllll, I wonder why that is, eh."

"I'm so sorry!" Zin sympathized while simultaneously trying to control her laughter. She knew it wasn't nice, but she couldn't help it; it did look ridiculous. No more so than anyone else's costume, but still, it made the sight all the more rich to see Lenore's small, glum expression from within the otherwise flamboyant costume. The blue-haired girl coughed to cover the last of her giggles. "Do you want to walk around?" she asked. "No one else seems to be coming this way, and I'm supposed to keep an eye out for trouble." She puffed her chest out a little, clearly proud that she had been entrusted with the task.

Axel ground his teeth. He'd been hoping the brat would just curse at him and leave, but evidently Preacher was planning on sticking around for a while. Nagging him while he worked. He was stung by Preacher's comment about him being a poor choice. He couldn't help but think it was a reference to his clumsy dancing with Tala the night before. Tala certainly hadn't seemed impressed by him. Preacher, of course, had been sailing around like the belle of the freaking ball. Aargh. "I don't know why that is," he said, nettled. He forced a smile at Preacher, solely because he thought it would get under Preacher's skin. "I bet you do think I'd be a good choice. That must be why you keep following me around."

Day2->3"Barges, then," Shun grunted out. People were needed to pull the boats and quite frankly, he didn't really belong in a marching band. There was no way in hell he was going to be donning a costume either. --- When the next day rolled around, he made his way to where the boats were settled, then reached for the nearest rope. He was going to need to be careful with his footing, seeing how he wasn't certain how deep the canal was. He didn't want to end up drowning; it'd be kind of pathetic of him if that happened. With the rope in hand, he looked around for where he was supposed to tether it, and soon spotted Axel and Preacher in the vicinity. To the two, he just gave a curt nod of acknowledgement. It looked like they were bickering.

Lenore shrugged as best she could. At least one of them was having fun. "It's not your fault. No need to apologize."The girl nodded. "Sure, why not? Not like everyone isn't going to see me, anyway."

Shakuntala peeled back her sleeve and gave a panicked glance to the area where the ox would have likely bitten her hand off. Disbelief was etched into her features as her glance flicked wildly between the bovine and the marks on her wrist. Eventually, she frowned at the animal, and came to the conclusion she did not like oxen. At all. They were all out to get her. She was positive of it. Pursing her lips, she finished up her work on them as quickly as she could to relieve herself of remaining in their presence anymore.
But she felt like a hero. Facing the incarnate of Death known as Ox and surviving proved her to be one.
Before she had a chance to bring up the matter with Alec, a man who was clearly out of breath approached them with an offer that seemed too good to be true. The excitement she felt burst and crackled like fireworks within her bosom and the girl came close to make happy whale noises at the circumstance that seemed to work to her benefit. While her heart did go out to the two riders who were sick, she was more mirthful for the chance to be in the equine show.
"Y-Yes, oh, yes!" she yipped gleefully. "T-Tell him yes, Alec, we must... We must agree!"
Her excitement receded just a bit when she recalled there was still some more work to be done with the carts, but when Alec's mother offered to take on their duties, a sparkle glimmered in the teen's eye.
S-She's a goddess! Shakuntala thought to herself in wonder. No one of mortal being could be that nice.

Zin was starting to feel a little bad for Lenore; she looked so forlorn. Perhaps it would be best to find a distraction for her so she wouldn't have to think about the fact that she was dressed up as a walking advertisement. Since they were already near the canal, it didn't take long for the two girls to come within earshot of Axel, Preacher, and Shun. Zin heard that Axel and Preacher didn't seem to be getting along and paused with a frown. She wondered if she ought to step in before things escalated further, but she didn't want to intrude if there was no reason to. "Do you know them?" Zin asked Shun; she'd caught him nodding toward them. "Are they okay?"

Saoirse maneuvered around all the people as she headed over to the tent where the trainee was taking signups and handing out positions for people. She smiled at the girl who was tending the sheets. "Hello! I'm Saoirse Claes." She said wondering if she should spell her name for the other girl. "If you uh can't find it I can spell it out for you, its a tricky name." She said a bit awkwardly.

Vaguely, she noticed people milling about near them, Shun included. But Axel's smile was so grating... It was more annoying than noisy cats howling in heat. She surpressed her urge to hiss at the blond man. Instead, her eyes narrowed dangerously. When she spoke, her voice hwas low and dangerous. "Oh, I have a tendency to follow 'round irritatin' bugs until I squash them. Why?" Briefly, her voice took on a lilt of false innocence. But as Preacher spoke her next words, it gradually descended back intpo a hiss of violence. "You wanna go? I'll ******** you up anyday, Mr. High 'n' Mighty. C'mon. I can't possibly lose a fight against you." Preacher rose to her feet and glared at Axel, a 'come and get me' kind of stare.

His dig had gotten under Preacher's skin, and good. He couldn't sit back and enjoy his victory, though, because Preacher infuriated him just as much as he infuriated Preacher. The younger boy was threatening to fight him, and though Axel was not violent by nature, he was sorely tempted to shut Preacher up with a punch. He took a menacing step towards Preacher. Preacher was as fast as a snake, but he outweighed the boy. If he managed to close with Preacher he was sure he could wrestle Preacher into submission. But--no. That wasn't his style. Besides, they were surrounded by people, in public. Preacher might think this was the best place for a brawl, but he, Axel, was not a thief or a gangster. His temper was flaring dangerously, but he reigned himself in. "No," he said flatly. "I don't want to fight you." He shot a meaningful look towards the big purple bruise blossoming on Preacher's arm. The bruise where someone had hit Preacher, or grabbed the boy violently in order to hit him somewhere else. "I don't like hurting people. And I don't fight with people smaller than me."With that, he turned his back on Preacher. He was tense, ready for Preacher to pounce on him and attack anyways, but he felt he had made his point.

"Sort of," he answered the blue haired girl while looking between Axel and Preacher. Things were beginning to escalate here and it really wasn't hard to see how irritated the latter was with the former. Though, it appeared to be diffusing already. "Hell if I know," he added with a shrug, "Just as long as they don't break anything."As in breaking stuff on the barges. Damage to the boats while he was in charge of working with them would probably fall on him. Shun finished tethering the one boat, then took in a deep breath. He had to drag this thing into the canal now. Somehow.

Lenore watched the two boys bicker with a sort-of interest. It seemed like they weren't going to fight, after all. That was boring. ((I'm sorry, I have very little inspiration right now. DX OTL))

"H--hey!" Zin said loudly when Preacher swore at Axel. She sighed in relief when Axel handled things maturely and turned away from the threat. She wasn't very strong and not at all certain that she would be able to break up a fight on her own if it broke out. "We're supposed to be working hard for the parade!" she reminded anyone who would listen. "My name is Zin, and it's my job to make sure everyone does their part! So... So be nice!" She even stomped her foot on the ground for effect.

His reservations concerning putting his two cents in about how the barge should be decorated vanished to the wayside as a young man he had briefly noticed as the keeper of the Titan booth, and who had taken part in the dirt bag dragging approached him. Dipping his head in a formal yet silent greeting he gave Axel’s comment about plugging the barge with costumes some consideration. Eventually a smile formed on his face at the thought of stuffing some of those eye grabbing abominations into the cracks of the ill-fated barge before him. He had just lifted his hand with the intent of extending it to Axel in introduction when an urchin-like young boy sauntered up and immediately started in on the much bigger blonde.
The situation escalated quickly as words became more heated and the gestures followed. With a disapproving shake of his head he turned about, not wanting to get any more involved than need be. Even so, he still couldn’t help but to wonder how a brat like that managed to get on security. Just as his back shut them out his eyes landed on the tan, dark haired young man from before. He had acknowledged him in the dirt bag towing event, but instantly became aware of just how aloof this particular individual was.
With little more than a polite dip of his chin to signify that he had indeed seen him and was courteously acknowledging his presence he turned to stare at the barge once again. How on earth were they supposed to decorate something so tragic? Even covering the entire thing in cloth wouldn’t make it look any better. His thoughts on the matter were not long for this world as talk of a fight echoed over the group and one of the two young ladies who had just approached stepped forward in an attempt to intervene. In response a deep frown hung on the corners of Nik’s mouth and he was just about at the point where he was going to haul off the instigator by his collar.
