Sabin Duvert Stormchaser is still on Teumesia / saving Aspen
Faster. Faster. Faster.
Stormchaser's wings flapped furiously, his breath coming in heavy gasps and sweat beginning to pour down his face as he tried, harder and harder still, to keep up with the white fox beast. His teeth were clenched with anger and spite, wanting nothing more in this moment than to feel her fur in his mouth or his hooves against her skull.
But it was no use. The fire was growing, devouring whole pine trees in its wake and plumes of dark black smoke pillowing up into the air. The Fox had taken to the ground, and Stormchaser broke down through the tree line into a hot, dry, suffocating labyrinth of smoke and burning wood.
He used his wings to cover his nose and mouth, his lungs blistering. He tried to scan the forest floor for signs on his quarry, but his eyes stung from the smoke and acrid air. The smell of burning hair made him realize the tips of his mane and tail were being rapidly singed by the licking flames all around.
With a heavy heart, he gave up and took back to the air. Gasping as he reached the cool mountain air above the treeline, he heard his mother calling for the retreat towards the mountain peaks. He headed that direction, looking for others that needed assistance.
He caught a glimpse of his older sister fighting one of the enemies, and Aspen's unconscious body on the ground beside them; he flew down and secured Aspen around him; carrying him off to safety and joining the fallback.

Nymphalidae Jericho and Euphrates Coming to Xaveria's aid Sabin Duvert Engaged with Grimoire, Jericho is entering the fray
How does it feel?
The mare was taunting her, but Euphrates had more pride than that. She flailed with her hooves, making her way back to her four feet, shaking her head and trying to get the stinging embers off her face. Fire had lit and singed a good part of the hair in her mane, and the side of her face was burned; the fur gone and red skin showing from under her eye and down onto her neck. She wanted to know how it felt? She would show her how it felt!
With a yell of rage she rushed forward again, looking deep in her heart for that light inside her. She prayed to the Spirits to give her strength and give her courage and she rushed forward. Jericho felt the rage bubbling under his skin; how dare that creature even think about touching his life mate and his daughter? It was unthinkable to him; his whole family was paramount to him; they never hurt anyone! They were stable. They were safe. They were loving. And this lady thought it appropriate to come into his home? Hurt his friends? His love? His children?
He saw Euphrates rise from the ashes like a phoenix, and his heart would have swelled with pride had he not been so angry. He folded his wings like a falcon on the dive and lashed out to strike Grimoire on her head. The fires were getting worrisome...if he could only incapacitate her for long enough to get his mate and children out of the fray. He heard the call of the Alpha in the distance; they needed to get out of the forest and up to the cold, dangerous, rocky points; they would be safe from the fires there.

tefla Engaged with Wynter Fury and Canaan
Seance was back on her hooves, the excitement of the reinforcements beginning to get the adrenaline pumping in her veins again. She didn't seem to notice the fire and smoke; she was too focused on the fight and making her father proud of her.
She saw her chance and she took it. As the grey spotted stallion landed land and stumbled, she knew it was the perfect time to attack. She would have sworn she heard the crack, she savored the look of pain and shock on his face as he tumbled to the ground. It was now; now he would show her father she was a force to be reckoned with.
She rushed over the fallen stallion, lashing out with her silvery hooves and letting her coils wrap around him. She leaned into him, her coils tightening, putting her full weight against him.
She didn't weigh very much, all things considered, but she used what leverage she had to her advantage. She kicked and bucked; loving the feel of her hooves landing on the soft fur. Finally she felt her coils wrap perfectly around the soft skin of his neck and she squeezed so hard she felt her own strength weakening.
CHANDLER is KNOCKED OUT This Soquili is now out of combat, and should be ignored by aggressors. The knocked out Soquili can still be captured if the character is open to capture in their form. He tried to pull up in time, but in his fury to attack Tara, he had gained too much speed too quickly. He landed on his hooves, and with a terrifying crunch he paled as one of the ankles snapped from the bad landing. He tumbled, head over hooves, onto the ground. A cold sweat broke over his brow immediately, knowing he would be near useless now. If only he could get to the air and get away. But there was ash and embers burning his flesh, stinging his eyes, and burning his lungs. He shook his head, trying to get to his feet when he was pounced viciously by the silver and purple coils of Seance.
He struggled, but he was beginning to panic. He couldn't get his footing with the broken fetlock and he couldn't see with the embers in his eyes. He felt the eerily warm tentacles rope around his neck, and his pupils dilated in horror as they began to squeeze, cutting off his air supply. Between the fire, smoke, pain, and his inability to breathe, he went limp around her coils. Before he even got close to the murderous Taraxippus, the Ink Dragoness was in front of him.
The wind was knocked out of him as a dragon like inky creature hit him hard with her tail. He gave a cry, falling back down to all four of his hooves. But it came him just enough time to see Chandler fall to the coils of Seance, and the fighting and the flames all around. From above, he heard the call of his Alpha telling them to fall back into the peaks. Panicked, he jumped as high as he could, the air getting thicker and thicker by the minute. "Chandler!" he cried, kicking at Seance from the air, trying to disengage her from the fallen opponent.
Tara was rallying his troops as well; win or loss he prayed it would be over soon.

Wynter Fury could feel her wing being wrenched around as the stallion released it. That was a relief. That relief was short lived though as she was tossed to the ground unceremoniously at the same time. As she hit the ground the mare heard the bellowing yell of the other stallion that seemed to be the leader. Her vision clouded briefly as she struggled to her feet. The sibilant whisper of Chemosh reached her ears as she managed to get her feet underneath her. Her left wing throbbed with agony as she tucked it to her side. Her spaded tail flicked outward as Wynter debated charging the stallion again.
It was then that the voice of Stormwild reached her and Wynter Fury realized that both sides were calling for a retreat. She needed to leave. Unfurling her wings one at a time Fury readied herself for flight before the sensation of agony returned. Her left wing refused to work. Pain flooded Wynter Fury as she listened to the combat lessen around her. Her level of anger rose as she made her decision. The grey mare charged towards Chemosh with her horns lowered. She couldn't fly but she could still do some damage.

The problem, was that Chemosh was very self assured, he had already convinced himself that he had both grounded and frightened the mare, his opponent, into giving up. While both parties were in retreat, she was square in the middle of the path his family would take to get to Taraxippus. He assumed she'd realize this and flee with her whippy tail between her legs. He was loathe to let prey go, but he was even more loathe to stay while the flames and smoke crept ever closer. Just so, the last thing he was expecting was for her to charge him. He hissed in surprise as she came stampeding towards him, he had no time to dodge easily, no wings with which to fly, he would break his fangs if he tried to bite her now…but there was one thing. He stood his ground, not for a head on collision, no, but he meant to use her momentum against her - On his shoulders were large golden scales, each affixed with a single deadly spike, curved like a talon at the end. At the last second he would sidestep and ram his shoulder right into her side. " Ssso young to be ssso foolissssh" He spat, egging her on. He had no time to waste dallying with this sprig. Kamiki Protecting Seance against Canaan Inkling raised a delicate eyebrow "My, he has more stamina than I thought, how delightful - but I too have more tricks in my claws." Both sides were calling a retreat, the fires were burning up everything each side held so dear, how perfectly tragic - lovely plot twist. Inkling did not much care about these lands, she had passed through many, nowhere was home, but everywhere had stories. She could however understand the importance, and so she would have to hasten their retreat, pests were pests. She noted Chemosh had his own problems, but he was in sight, his relation, a purple mare had finished off another, but the last one was coming for her, spurred on by desperation. She gave a few flaps of her inky wings and then kicked off from the ground, cutting through the smoke and shadow directly for him, but as she dipped to disrupt his attack on Seance her own shadow seemed to split off from her in mid flight and form…another her. It was like a silhouette come to life and it was headed straight for him as well.

Teumesia has FLED/LEFT COMBAT This Soquili has left combat. They can re-enter (voluntarily) after 48 hours. Even Teumesia couldn't see through the black smoke, and almost immediately regretted her decision. It was hot, the black, choking air clogging her myriad eyes and filling her lungs with ash.
She could hear, though, a soft WHUMP as something soquili-sized landed, the crackling of fire, a muffled breathing and coughing. He had landed in his pursuit of her.
And somewhere in the distance, she heard Taraxippus calling for support. Sne snarled. She should have never come here to begin with. This wasn't a game, this wasn't fun, and they weren't even winning.
With a snarl, she spread her wings, letting the hot updrafts lift her up and up, in the column of smoke ,but certainly out of the range of the trees that might snag or stop her. And finally, she picked and arbitrary direction and streaked off, leaving the smoke like a bullet. Her fur was ashy and coated in the sooty mess.
For now, Teumesia didn't have a plan other than retreat. She had shaken her pusuers. She didn't know when or IF she'd return to their herdgrounds.

Psyche had seen enough. She had only come along, despite some misgivings, to see the glory of war. But it wasn't at all like she had imagined. It hurt, it hurt her friends, and it hurt her family. Xibalba was nowhwere to be seen, and her mother was in danger from Legion - one of their own.
Psyche wasn't remorseless; quite the opposite. While eccentric and morbid, she knew when she had gone too deep.
She shook her head violently at the blue mare, her eyes stinging - from tears or smoke, she wasn't sure.
Distantly, she heard Taraxippus... but she didn't care.
"I'm sorry!" She spluttered at the blue mare, and took to wing, flying up to where her mother was battling Legion. Desperately, she tried to interpose herself between the two of them.
"Mother... this is over. We need to go." She said pushing her gently away from Legion, and towards the cliffs. "Fight them if you want, Legion. We are not your enemy!" She said with a curl to her lip. "Why don't you go answer Taraxippus."
And with that, she turned. Just... hoping that Legion didn't continue his attack.

Barghest yelped hard as the mare snapped her wing - HARD - into his snout. He backed up, shaking his head and blinking away the moisture from his eyes in respose to the impact. But that wasn't the worst of it. When he finally opened his five eyes, the sight he saw left himpositively aghast. He watched Xibalba turn and... leave. Leave him alone, leave the battle.
"COWARD!" HE snapped, snarling at the retreating flank of the soquili he had thought was his ally. More addled in the head than many of the herd, perhaps, but ally nonetheless. He had taught him of the spirits, after all.
But to leave him in the middle of a FIGHT?!
ANd a misgiving began to creep into the black beast's breast.
Smoke was filling the alpine valley, curling into strange, ominous shapes. The canine backed away, his tail swishing anxiously as he craned his head up to watch the patterns.
Doom. Destruction. Loss.
His ears lay back. Xibalba was right. And it was then that he herd the alpha, Taraxippus. His brother.
With a parting snarl at the purple mare, he rushed to Taraxippus's side.

Stormcloud & Thunderbird have FLED/LEFT COMBAT This Soquili has left combat. They can re-enter (voluntarily) after 48 hours. Stormcloud was flabbergasted as she saw her two opponents, one after the other, turn and flee. She snapped, bellowing after the black one who she had presumed would have put up more of a fight, run like a scared dog after she bopped him on the nose.
She wanted, with every fiber of her being, to give chase - especially to that black dog. To rend him for attacking their herdlands. Stormcloud was very much the embodiment of the tumultous storm. She never gave much mind to why - storms didn't question their nature. But it was likely in no small part to the kalona blood that did run through her veins.
She wanted to make this monster pay for hurting her mate, for attacking her herdgrounds....
But.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw her mate slump. And on the wind, she heard Stormwild, her alpha, call for retreat.
Her pride and hatred for the attackers held her back, one moment... two.... but in the end, as she saw the fires approach, and threaten Thunderbird, she turned quickly, with a snarl, and gathered up Thunderbird, whispering soft, tender words of encouragement to him, helping him wake just enough to get him into the air with her support.
And together, they followed Stormwild's call.

Hearing the words "I'm sorry" definitely did nothing to improve Tsunami's feelings on the situation. However much she wanted to pursue the blue flutter she knew that she had to find a way to heed Stormwild's warning. Smoke was billowing and flames were creeping ever closer to their current location at an alarming rate and Tsunami was worried that she'd have to abandon her mother in order to seek out some help. Every instinct told her not to do this. She'd only just come home and the mare felt that she needed to stick close to Stormfall. Nudging at Stormfall's side Tsunami waited to see if there was any sign that her mother was coming around. When there was no response Tsunami tried the maneuver again.
Pausing to assess the situation again Tsunami grimaced. She didn't want to leave her mother behind but if she stayed she'd also put her own life at risk. What could she do? Tears of frustration dripped from her eyes as she hovered anxiously. Time was of the essence now. She needed to go. Tsunami tried one last desperate attempt and bit down on her mother's ear. She hoped that the new sensation of pain would rouse her mother just enough so that they could flee together. The pale blue mare was all but ready to leave when her mother's eyes opened.Sabin Duvert Maybe Balrog could notice and help out?

Xibalba had been heading for the trail that led out of the herdgrounds when he heard Taraxippus's call. His alpha was near the trailhead, and there was no pretending that he hadn't heard.
Taraxippus didn't have wings, either, and Xibalba knew that the stallion was no fool. He couldn't plan on staying long, not unless he had another escape route.
He hesitated for a moment before checking the direction the energy around his hooves swirled, and changed his angle of gallop, joining Taraxippus by his side.
Lowly, under his breath, he whispered, "I hope you have a good plan here, Tah-rah. De spirits o fire do not distinguish friend from foe."

Note: Balrog is maxed out. Balrog circled back around, making certain that the smoldering stallion plummeted into the water with a satisfying massive splash, steam rising from his impact. But the scene that waited for him at the top of the waterfall was different than the one he had left. Tsunami had arrived, and Stormfall had fallen, but three of the invaders had devolved into infighting. Good. He snorted.
But then he saw the fires. It flashed in his eyes - everything they had worked for and built had been set ablaze, and it threatened all of them.
He wanted to drive into the heart of these monsters, but as hotheaded as the stallion was age and eldership had matured him. And the most important thing was the lives of his herdmates and his family.
Fire was encroaching, and Stormfall was in its direct line.
He landed heavily by her side, his masive hooves thudding on the parched earth. "We need to get her to safety." He spoke quickly, clipped. He partially heard, partially saw his mate hovering above the other end of the herdgrounds, leading soquili to the safety of the craggy rocks where the fire couldn't go.
He got his head up under her, lifting her up onto the front of his broad shoulders.
"Assist me." He said once more as he started to flap.

Grimoire had heard Taraxippus's call. She just didn't give a damn. She had agreed to come, she had never agreed to follow his orders. This was her playground now, and she was having so much fun letting loose on these poor, pitiful soquili.
Grimoire was laughing, delighted, and all the more so as she saw the mare roll to her feet and saw just how much damage the embers had done. "Oh, your pretty hair-" She clucked with her tongue as mirth danced in her eyes. "The poor little pretty princess isn't so pretty any more, now is she?!" She bellowed with laughter.
So much so, that she didn't expect the injured mare to launch an effective attack... and really didn't expect another attack from above from the mare's father.
Maybe she should have listened to Taraxippus.
Instead, she was just bracing herself to meet Euphrate's charge head-on, relying on her bulk to stop the mare in her tracks... when Jericho knocked into her, sending her spilling into the embers herself.
She shrieked in fury and pain.

Lamia was on Cataclysm like a dog on a rabbit, shaking her head and driving her teeth as deeply into her flesh as she could. She reveled with the power and control she wielded over the life of this mare. She may have been on the ground, but she had sharp hooves, a bony face, and sharp teeth working for her. And she was hungry.
The fire was getting uncomfortably hot, and she heard her alpha, heard her mother, but it was torture to think about leaving this fight before she had won.
But it was getting awfully hot. She liked a cooked meat as much as the next kalona - she had enjoyed a raid of a two-leg's village - but not at the expense of her own flesh.
She bit down once more - blindly - everything was a blur of fire, feathers, and fur - hoping that she had randomly chosen a vital area before unlatching, shouting "FINE!" and rolling to her feet.
Taraxippus was near the exit. She didn't speak to her mother, just glanced at her with a nod, risking one more glance back at the mare before heading to join Taraxippus.

INFERNUM has FLED/LEFT COMBAT This Soquili has left combat. They can re-enter (voluntarily) after 48 hours. Infernum was drenched as he broke the water and gasped for breath. He had managed to slow his fall enough not to smack the water, but he had still gone under. He felt humiliated, defeated, even as he watched the massive shadow of the elder stallion arc back into the herdgrounds.
Infernum, like his mother, didn't dedicate a lot of time towards private thoughts. He was dutiful, a soldier, and had followed Taraxippus's orders. He saw this defeat as a failure in himself. He might have still been young, but he had grown large, and quickly, and he had been so eager to prove himself. Slowly, achingly, he swam to the edge of the water. His sides ached and his breath came in wheazes. High, high above, he saw his mother and sister circling, confronting.... was that Legion?
Instinctively, he went to spread his wings and head back into the fray, but as soon as he tried to flap, he gasped in pain. Cracked ribs... broken bones... he wasn't going to fly any time soon.
He glowered up at the herdgrounds for a solid minute before starting a long walk around the mountains back home.
As he started to walk, his brows knit as he saw a figure streaking out of the herdgrounds. Was that.... Firestarter?
