He wanted to try. He wanted to try more than anything to be helpful. Even if he'd failed the first time, he couldn't help but try again. And the loot from the last boss gave him exactly that kind of chance.After using his King's Will, which felt very empowering, he reached for the card he'd attempted earlier, and tried it again. IC PROMPT: You see a better, smarter, greater version of yourself. They are doing all the things you've wished you had done. You feel lesser of a person. All he had to do was hit it. All he had to do was hit it. And yet, all he could see the better version of himself doing, was everything he'd failed to do this entire dungeon. Of all the times he'd worked with his guild, this one had been the least productive. He'd been almost useless. His pet had done more than him. And there, behind that better version of himself, he saw a glimpse of something he couldn't bear to look at. He pulled his hat down over his eyes, to hide the sight. And he failed to hit it. As usual. But what could he do? She was there behind the better version of himself, just waiting for him to fail.

And so the next opponent came slithering on in. Shadowstep sneered as he could see that they were up against a snake. Oh great. Another jackdamn snake in this jackdamn game. He shook his head and sighed. But then he paused, seeing himself standing before the serpent. It wasn't just himself, but it was a better him. A Shun with fewer scars and greater combat prowess. And they went, one by one, quick and furious, to attack the boss and be the very best as usual. Except for him. He just stood back, protecting Uttam from a direct blow, and slumped as a new minipet waddled over and patted him solemnly. Of course, Nightbloom thought that she could do better--could be better. There were plenty of times where she had felt useless, unable to protect her friends due to her own physical and mental weaknesses. The image that she saw in front of her was exactly that--someone who was stronger, braver, more capable...
Except hell, she had a job to do here with healing people--now wasn't the time to mope. Gritting her teeth, she tried to shake away the heaviness that had settled over her.

Dotdotdot came face to face with herself ... except it wasn't. First off, the other version was surrounded by countless friends and seemed perfectly comfortable around others. Really? Snakes again? SANDSHARK was beginning to wonder just how little originality the makers of this 'game' had. Maybe they just really liked snakes. Who really knew? What he did know was that he was currently staring at a version of himself, taller and stronger. His hair was graying, but his face was far more dignified and had a pleasant smile on it. He was riddled in battle scars, but people listened. The guild listened to him. Even had friends in the other clans. Was this... who we was supposed to be?
He shook himself. He couldn't focus on the illusions this snake was casting right now. He just had to attack!

The ghoul before her was confident and strong, independent, and needed no protection.

When NotAllan peered into the snakes eyes, the glassy orbs reflected a great nothingness. It was empty, perfection lost.
A figure appeared, hazy at first, but slowly taking shape. It was someone organized, someone respected. Still not normal- NotAllan would never see her "better" self as someone normalized, but respected.
After all that had happened to her, that was all she really wanted. To not be the butt of the universe's joke. She just wanted someone to listen to her ideas and convince her that she wasn't crazy. By her side stood other figures, indiscriminate among the masses.
It took her a moment to wipe her face, but she eventually faced the beast with new found determination. She could get past this.
"Decimate," she breathed angrily.
