"Is it naptime yet?" he asked Crumpet, as they made it into the clearing and dropped his hat in the grass. He collapsed to the earth, safe at last, and thought: "I'm gonna have to come back when we're all levelled up and we'll get him then."
His eyes started to droop, and he yawned. "With my chainsaw... Yeah, the chainsaw..." Crumpet curled up in the crook of his arm, and hellrisen curled his whole body around the arpakassu. "We should call Gabriel Santiago and tell her not to go in the woods," he mumbled, sleepily.

The forest shakes as SLC breaks out into the sunlight. She gasps for air and drops to her knees. Eat her if she liked, she couldn't run another step. But nothing came. Nothing at all. It was finally, over.

The Jabberwock encouraged her with another glancing bite. SCIENCE's hp fell again, and started blinking. Running as fast as she could, she just managed to keep the trees between it and her.
Even is she was running for her life, SCIENCE still managed to grin. This was exciting! Much better than following signs, or examining trees!
Said trees were currently being passed in a blur, and the Jabberwock was left behind. At least for a bit. SCIENCE kept running, though. The footsteps coming from behind her were loud enough to shake the ground beneath her feet!
And then, quite unexpectedly, SCIENCE could hear something else over the footsteps.
"Canon!"
What? Who-
"Canon! Quick! Back this way! You'll never believe what I've found! A new poison!"
The Hatter's headlong rush faltered.
"A... new... poison?" she repeated. "Mom? What are you doing here?"
"Nevermind that! You need to sample it before it loses its potency!"
SCIENCE kept running, but not as fast as before, filled with indecision. She was pretty sure she wasn't hallucinating. That definitely sounded like her Mom. But, there was no way her Mom could be here! Could she? She wondered if she could risking pausing to look back.
She shook herself out of the temptation to turn back, and resumed running at full speed. Mere seconds after doing so, another swipe took her health down to 5 hp!
SCIENCE leaped forward, laughing. That had been close! If she had looked back...

[The Chase: Part 3, try 2]
Cupcake came to the same fork in the road, and, thinking about what happened to her last time, she checked her health once more. She had more than she had last time...and she only could hope it would stay and last her long enough to get out of here. She chose the Second Chance Timer and dashed away.

The Jabberwocky was chasing after her faster, she thought than the first time. It snapped at a tree right behind her and Cupcake felt the woosh of air as the tree fell and splinters of bark flew into her hair. But she kept running and didn't slow down. She saw the spot she had previously died at yet couldn't even smile as she just kept running.

DreamWatcher wasn't sure how she lost FlukeFiend, but she did. Wrinkling her nose up, she went still when she suddenly realize it gone very quiet around her. The trees were silent, everything was silent. This wasn't right, she knew by these woods were never that quiet.
Ears twitching, she felt her nerves go on edge as the movement behind her caught her attention. Turning her head, she about screamed as she saw the Jabberwock behind her. With teeth coming right at her, she jumps backwards and was turning to take off as fast as her legs could carry her.
The last thing she wanted was to be a Jabberwock's meal.

"Well what shoved something up that damned Jabberwock's a**?" he grumbled bitterly as he ran. He wasn't exactly given much of a choice, now was he? That notice about his HP suddenly dropping to ten had gotten another groan and a kick of frustration (bad planning, that) at a nearby tree before he managed to roll out of the way of a second attack.
And now he was running. For dear, frekkin' life.

[The Chase: Part 4b, Try 2]
Cupcake kept running and soon, she couldn't feel the woosh of the Jabberwocky's head swinging around. She wanted so much to look back and see if it was still behind her, but she dare not try. Cupcake didn't know if she'd ever feel safe in these woods again. Perhaps she would just keep running until she could run no more, would she even be safe then?

A fork suddenly appeared before SCIENCE. She could see a Health Potion off to the right, and immediately bolted towards it. If the Jabberwock kept landing swipes like it had, she wasn't going to last long.
She felt the potion restore some of her health as she stampeded farther down the path.

A frenzy of snapping erupted behind SCIENCE as the Jabberwock went berserk! She could hear trees crushed, and other players crying out as it landed hits all the Woods. Just how long was that neck?!
SCIENCE did her best to dodge and weave through the foliage, hoping it'd be enough cover to block the brunt of the Jabberwock's onslaught.
NOPE.
With a particularly vicious SNAP, the Jabberwock gobbled the little Hatter up.

DreamWatcher ran until she couldn't anymore. Glancing around, she saw the Jabberwock was no where to be seen. This made her sigh in relief, until she heard the heavy footsteps not to far away. It was still out there, looking for a meal. Turning, she was about to take off when she heard voice.
One she knew all to well that voice.
"Just cone to me babe, everything will be okay. We can relax in my room, watch a movie." she knew watching movies was alot more fun then running around in the woods.
Turning towards the voice, she didn't get a chance to scream as all she saw were teeth and the world go black around her.

Trees. Nothing but trees. She'd been walking for hours only to find more trees and she was starting to get sick of trees. She huffed and stopped at a stump, waiting it out for a while.
It was then the exodus started. They all repeated the same "It's coming!" as they ran past. Never did actually tell her what was coming.
They didn't need to.
She'd barely turned around when the beast bit her, right through the armor. She shrieked and sprinted in the opposite direction, even as it took another chunk from her.

[The Chase: Part 5, try 2]
At last, Cupcake ran into people who were stopping to rest. She slowed her pace just long enough to look back. With the Jabberwocky no longer in sight, Cupcake figured she was safe...for now. But she would always be looking over her shoulder. And if locals started running, you could bet your butt that she would run right along with them. She came to a stop before collapsing on the ground and closing her eyes for a moments rest. As she closed her eyes, she heard a little ping from her pocket card. She had gained 2 levels, a fragment, 2 cards, and a special ability card. It was all neat, but Cupcake was just happy to have survived.

The quiet that followed took him by surprise, or...well, at least quiet relative to what it'd been like with the thing quite literally on his tail. He could still hear loud footfalls, which kept him from stopping. Thankfully he was used to running, so this was almost a walk in the proverbial park. Almost.
The voices came next, flittering through his ears and filling his head as he ran. Distracting. Annoying. He couldn't not ignore it though, it was familiar. Warm. Welcoming.. not a voice he knew from his caged life. Nor one from after, but it made him feel...something. A sort of something he couldn't quite describe with words. Something he knew he shouldn't have been feeling right then while he ran for life.
For the first time since this wicked game world had swallowed him whole, it actually spat happy memories at him. Vague, but happy all the same. He would have smiled had he not been so busy trying to get away...
Thankfully, though, his life after these voices that were tempting him -- oh were they tempting him! -- were etched so long ago in his mind that his attachment was simply trumped by common sense. But to think he actually had to think about it...
So he kept on running.

It was... terrifying, those voices. They were so kind and so gentle and all she wanted to do was turn and face them. Perhaps they'd save her from the Jabberwocky, maybe they'd destroyed the beast. How she wanted to turn around and great them.
She didn't.
Phymi screamed again and pushed her legs harder, more scared than she'd ever been in her life. Even being undead didn't mean she didn't feel fear. Her knees ached; oh Jack her knees. Her precious knees felt like they'd give out any second and she sprinted faster.
Anything to get away from the beast and the voices.
