Well he would have grabbed it, had he actually managed to get ahold of it, but the damn thing had slipped away. He laughed aloud, shook his head, and kept moving.

And still they escaped him. How hard was this supposed to be, anyway? He knelt down and reached out, eyes flickering from side to side, tracing over the lines of the things that were around him, from grey to grey, red to red, to the little glowing fragment he now tried to grasp.

Arriving at the Spire, she paused, unsure of what to make of the scene before her. What was this place? Her attention was drawn to a small orb in the distance. Without much thought on it, she chased after it, catching it in her grasp before it had the chance to disappear. "Not now, I have-" What was that? Blinking, she peered around her to see if someone was there, but found no one. Shrugging it off, she continued to seek out more of these orbs.

Using her new tactic, she waited. 'Maybe if I just pretend I don't see them...', she thought. Anni decided to watch the others as one by one, they completed their tasks. She reached out to grab it, but it floated away....

She didn't want to let her Goddess down, but trying to catch the fragments were like trying to capture a soap bubble. She watched the orbs float and tumble, guided by the gust of air created by the other's movements.

He doesn't know how long he walks, but eventually the terrain changes from flat, grey nothingness to cracked ground that turns rockier the longer he continues on. Tall, black spires break up the landscape, stretching into the infinite nothingness as though they aspired to break free.
He saw more almost-people like himself, their glowing red hearts bobbing along as they, too, searched for--something. He didn't know what they could possibly be looking for, until he almost ran into something.
He put his hand up to deflect the floating orb that suddenly floated in front of him. His fingers brushed it, and he remembered--
"Not just--friends--brothers, too."
The words meant nothing to him. They were just another part of the desolate landscape, an obstacle to be overcome. He moved on.

The orbs flickered and danced, their glow as comforting as a fire on a cold night. Oh, how she wished she could just catch two more... She thought of the statue that brought her here, Ruin. The way her stance seemed to suggest she was ready to protect her at any moment, how her loneliness had resonated with Anni, the first feeling that ever manifested itself. She wanted so badly to please the Goddess... And then a fragment came to her. It nestled against her palm reassuringly.
