Riza was admittedly a little surprised that Kasiya didn't ask to see her Thunderbadge too, but she said nothing as the two made their way to the gym. She was impressed at how quickly the younger girl unlocked the gym and turned on all the lights, and Riza realized that with Surge as her dad, she probably hung out here a lot as a kid, watching gym battles and learning from an experienced trainer like Surge. It made Riza want to challenge her that much more. It didn't take long for Surge to arrive at the gym as well, and Riza smiled when she saw that he had his Raichu with him. The electric mouse had put up a great fight against Akima and sometimes Riza couldn't believe that her Sneasel had won. She wasn't sure Raichu would be battling now though as he didn't seem to be as spunky and energetic as he was when they battled yesterday.

Eris growled and flames flared from her pores as the large man pointed at her, but she trotted along after her trainer as she and the other girl went over to the spectator area. Riza raised an eyebrow as Surge gave something to Kasiya, but she'd find out what it was when the girl had the audacity to release her Muk inside the gym and in an instant its stink had seemingly filled the whole place. The raven haired girl groaned and pinched her nose, glaring at Kasiya as her Muk had decided the best way to heal his wounds was by ingesting the entire potion, bottle and all, and she cracked the faintest hint of a smile. 'I guess that's one way one could practice waste management,' she thought as Surge had released a bigger version of a Magnemite, Riza's pokedex told her it was the evolved form, a Magneton. As much as Riza wanted to watch Shiro's rematch, she was also feeling a little restless and she wondered if he'd be upset if she challenged Kasiya to a match outside. Deciding to see if she could goad the blonde into a battle, Riza slid a little closer, despite the disgusting Muk. "Hey Kasiya," she started off, somewhat innocently, "where's your Raichu? I thought she stuck to you like glue."

Riza watched Flareon with his teammates, quite impressed at how well the three got along. She wondered how long they'd all been together, watching as the green Scizor and purple Weezing were recalled into their respective balls, smiling as Flareon darted over to play with Miles. At first the Buizel was a bit apprehensive but when he realized that Flareon was friendly he gave a happy cry and started to run around, his twin tails trailing behind him like a pair of orange and white banners. For a moment Katie watched the water-type, a little confused as to why he was so excitable. She hadn't known Miles (or Nell, for that matter) for very long and she wasn't sure this was normal behavior for the little otter.

She looked back to Kilik as he mentioned the next two were larger than the others, wondering just how much bigger they could be. So far, in her short career as a trainer, the largest Pokemon she'd seen was Roark's Onix, and with all her studies at trainer's school, she knew there weren't too many Pokemon bigger than that. She let out a quiet 'oooh' at the sight of the Flygon, having never seen nor heard of that Pokemon before. Kilik called it Bahamut but her pokedex told her it was a Flygon, and she smiled. So far only two of Kilik's Pokemon had names. "She's a sweetheart," Katie said, though when Bahamut pushed Kilik closer to her, she blushed a little as well and looked away, giving an embarrassed giggle. Her heart did skip a beat as he placed his hands on her shoulders, but she quickly realized that he was causing her to back up a little. Katie did not miss the Flygon trying to keep them together with her tail. Genki tensed as Kilik released whatever it was that was contained in the great ball, both his and Katie's eyes going wide as a big, metallic brute appeared before them.

Even though the Aggron, as her pokedex identified it, wasn't nearly as big as Roark's Onix had been, it was far more beastly and Katie backed up a few more steps as a precaution. "Wow, he's kind of scary," she said, both slightly intimidated and impressed at the same time, though the exchange the steel-type had with Cable was rather nice. Genki wasn't swayed though, standing protectively in front of Katie, the flame on his tail blazing. He knew this creature could easily crush him, but that didn't matter, so long as he could try and protect his Katie. "It's okay, Genki," Katie said, placing a hand on the Monferno's head though it did little to calm the fire and fighting-type. Noa had taken precautionary measures and landed in a tree, eying the two larger Pokemon with distrust. Nell had tried to shy away, meanwhile, hopping down from Cable's shoulders and up onto Katie's. Kord stayed put, as like usual, he wasn't afraid of the mighty Aggron even though common sense told him he should be.

Katie looked up at the Flygon, and then back over at the testy Aggron, and gave an affirmative nod. "They're great, Kilik, I'm really impressed," she said, placing a hand on Bahamut's scaly skin. "I can't wait until my own Pokemon are this strong and impressive." And it was true, seeing the Pokemon of a stronger trainer, whether it was Kilik or Mai or even a stronger rival in her old class always made Katie want to train harder and harder. She would be one of those fierce, powerful trainers that everyone else wanted to be, someday.

Amy made a small noise of agreement, incredibly glad that she would not have to battle on the Meowth's behalf. She didn't want to delay her battle with Surge; she felt that if she waited too long, her resolve would simply evaporate and she would be left without an aim or purpose. Looking ahead, Vermilion City was quite clear; it would only take a few more minutes of walking, if they continued at their normal pace and weren't interrupted again. She was excited at the prospect of her first gym challenge, and whatever would follow. Ever since her successful battle in the Celadon City gym, Amy was filled with some sort of buoyant optimism.

Amy resumed her Pokemon watching as they ventured further, and occassionally she saw a trainer resting in the grass or going after a stray Pidgey. But she couldn't focus on which Bellsprout looked the strongest, or whether or not she could catch that Abra, because she could not shake the feeling of being watched. One glance out of the corner of her eye told her that yes, the Meowth was still following them, but he certainly knew better now. He was hiding in the grass, but the look in his eyes was not evil or malicious, simply curious.

The entrance to Vermilion City was plain to see now; the buildings grew in size and Amy swore she could already smell the salt of the sea in the air. Before they officially crossed the threshold into the city, she paused, touching Karrigan's wrist lightly. The bespectacled girl turned around, staring right at the familiar pair of eyes, nearly hidden in the tall grass.

"It's all right," Amy said gently, coaxing the Scratch Cat Pokemon to come out into the road. "We don't have any food, I'm sorry." But the Meowth didn't leave; on the contrary, he stepped forward and meowed, glancing back down the route they had come. Amy thought of the trainers and how she had lied to them. The Meowth slowly walked over to her side and swiped at a Pokeball on her belt. It took her a moment to understand, and the Normal-type meowed again, less patient. "Do you--do you want to come with me?" The Pokemon's only response was another swipe at the Pokeball. With an almost apologetic glance towards her redheaded companion, Amy collected an empty Pokeball and tossed it lightly, the red beam engulfing Meowth. When it landed, it rolled only once before it beeped an affirmative. "Wow," Amy said softly, scooping up the Pokeball with both hands. "That was easier than I expected." She attached it back to her belt and smiled at her friend, before she glanced at the seaside city before them. "Where did you want to go first? The PokeCenter or the gym?"

"Buizel," Jade repeated, testing the name out on her tongue. They certainly did seem fast, and helpful. "Thanks," she said as she took the boy's Pokedex, looking at both Pokemon and their movepools. They weren't half-bad. She returned the Pokedex after another moment and focused on the task ahead, glad she had better footwear than her traveling companion. She couldn't help but notice him wincing every few steps, but there wasn't much she could say. Sorry your shoes suck. That's tough. It wasn't very nice. But her thoughts faded away when they finally happened upon the source of the whirring: Fuego Ironworks.

"Oh," Jade said softly. She paused at the edge of the trees to survey the trees, taking note that there weren't any workers outside, or at least not in her sight. If there were any, they would all be inside. Unless this place was totally abandoned, which added a whole new level of unease to the situation. But she ignored that thought. Solaris and Aquarius idled by her side, both of them glancing around curiously. "Should we go inside?" Jade finally asked, glancing at the blonde. "I mean, there might be people in there. And we want to find a way back to civilization, right?"

River stumbled back, tiny limbs flailing wildly in an effort to get the snake off. But Ekans was firmly latched to the Kirlia, trying to do as much damage as possible. Jett called out for a Teleport, hoping that it would just leave the Poison-type on the ground there, but when River teleported a few feet away, it was still attached. But the move disoriented the Snake Pokemon, and its bite relented. River swiftly danced out of the way, looking at the ugly mark left on his side. Jett began to call out for an attack when the psychic seemed to focus on himself, and a pink glow overtook him. Afterwards, the wound seemed to have all but vanished.

"What was that?" Jett muttered, retrieving his PokeDex to check and see. "Heal Pulse," he said softly, looking up as he watched the two Pokemon circle each other warily. Ekans tried again for another Bite attack, but this time the Emotion Pokemon was expecting it and maneuvered himself out of the snake's reach, seeming smug. He flitted over to the Poison-type and landed three swift blows before it recoiled and tried to counter-strike, hissing. Jett watched with fascination; River had never seemed so aggressive in battle before, but now he wasn't holding back with the snake, the two dodging and striking with perfect precision. He readied a Pokeball, eyes narrowing.

"River, get ready," he called, and River avoided a Poison Sting, only to release a barrage of technicolored leaves while Ekans leapt. The blows kept the Poison-type up in the air for a brief moment and Jett hurled the sphere, holding his breath as it collected the Ekans and landed on the ground, rattling once, twice, three times. There was a pause and a deafening silence, and both River and Jett focused on the still Pokeball, before it beeped. The raven-haired boy grinned and recalled River a moment later. "Great job, River. I really appreciate it."

Crenu waltzed into the gym as the doors had been opened by Kasi, and looked around having a Déjà vu like sensation as he looked about the empty gym remembering his last visit here not so long ago. The only thing missing were the electrical effects, though no sooner had he thought so Surge had entered as well and turned them on himself completing the sensation of being in Kanto's electric gym. "That's fine with me, all the more fighting experience to be gained. Besides you're right, we wouldn't want things to end too quickly." Alright, so it was a three on three and Raichu didn't seem like he would be on the roster due to his noticeable lack of energy. He wasn't going to have to worry about Mega Kicks and Iron Tails from the electric mouse, but it also meant there was one less enemy in the know which is always prefered over a mystery opponent. He eyed the girls in the stands for a moment and the Muk that soon came out for to be healed, it seemed Riza really disliked this type of pokemon. He forgot about the spectators for now though and focused his attention on the battle at hand, taking his stance on the challengers side of the field, cracking his neck as Surge began. When he saw the triple magnet being that was Magneton he closed his eyes for a moment, he'd been expecting this pokemon at some point. "If you're leading with Magneton, then I choose Ariados." As he spoke he tossed out the red and white sphere from his belt which released the red spider, the yellow and purple stripes on her legs making her stand out more as she clicked her pincers. She was low to the ground still ashamed of failing Crenu this morning, not daring to look back at him. "This is your chance to redeem yourself. Fight hard and obey carefully, my plans are near absolute." he said, and the Ariados rose up from the ground wanting nothing more than to get on Crenu's good side again. "I trust you won't mind if we start things?" He said calmly as he stared down the field at Surge, looking past the pokemon and staring straight at the very large man. "Scary Face!" He firmly stated suddenly, and Ariados jumped into action right away as she hissed angrily raising her abdomen as it's mean face pattern seemed to come alive and her colors becoming vibrant and violent.

"All right Luffy! Great job there! Now let's bring double the fun! Double Hit!" Robin loved watching her first friend and first pokemon battle. Whenever she watched him she felt his love for it meld in with her own. Maybe it was the partnership that they had? Who knows, she and Luffy hadn't really battled all that much recently and she forgot how much she loved it.

The huge grin never disappeared from Luffy's face when he heard the call. Sure it was hard to miss seeing those thorns but like he cared! If he was afraid of getting hurt then he wouldn't love battling so much! With a grin he jumped up onto his regular hands before spinning his tail hands around and bringing them slamming towards the pretty flower pokemon.

The wind howled around the two of them as they strolled out into Azalea Town, side by side and oddly quiet, considering just who they were. There was nothing but the quiet hollow sound of the breeze and the quiet crunch of grass under their feet. It was an awkward silence, something neither of them could stand. The only question was who would break the silence first.

“So, how’d you do against Falkner? Roost is a pretty awful move, huh?” Cyan said with a grin. As she walked, her fingers toyed with the red and white sphere that contained her croconaw. Her eyes found Cindy trotting quietly beside Scarlet, though she wasn’t the tiny cyndaquil the blue haired girl remembered. She’d gotten stronger. That was good. She redirected her attention to Scarlet pretty quickly though. She knew how her rival liked an audience when speaking of his feats of bravery.

Instead, Scarlet turned a bright red, frowning as he felt the heat rush into his cheeks. “I wouldn’t know,” he muttered as he looked down at his feet. “We skipped him. Taking on a flying gym with one ranged attack between two pokemon was gonna be problematic. So yeah, no badges.”

Cyan laughed and earned a glare from her annoyed teenager, but she waved it off and the hearty peal of laughter petered off into giggle behind her hand. “Sorry, sorry, it’s just I never expected the great Scarlet Pine to give up on a badge just because hitting a pidgeotto would probably be hard.”

Scarlet stopped walking and folded his arms, glowering at Cyan as she kept walking. She herself turned to face him a few feet away, tossing her pokeball to the ground. In a flash of white, Cyan’s partner, the bipedal Big Jaw Pokemon, was released, looking around boredly with a gaping jaw. That is, at least until Vector the Croconaw laid eyes on Cindy. It let out an almost roar and snapped its mouth closed, glaring at the bigger-but-still-weaker not-Cyndaquil.

“One on one, or three on three?” The red head asked flatly. Cindy hopped ahead, snarling as the flaming patches on her body blazed to critical mass.

“Let’s let these two decide who wins, for old time’s sake,” Cyan grinned. Neither Scarlet nor Cindy had any problem with that. Type advantages be damned, this would be what it always came down to, what it would always come down to – Cindy vs. Vector.

Alexis graciously accepted the menu from Kressen and started looking through. Lou’s looked sort of awful on the outside, sure, but the girl didn’t remember long as she read over the meals they served. There was nothing in the world that sounded better to her right now than a bacon cheeseburger with chili cheese fries. Roll was busy watching Gigas as he ran off to hop around the empty tables. She started to slide out of the booth to follow, but Alex caught her by the arm.

“Hey, don’t even think about it,” the girl said quietly, but firmly. While Roll pouted, Alexis slid the menu over to the Larvitar so that she could pick what she wanted to eat from the pictures on the back. The frown fixed on the little dinosaur’s face probably wouldn’t stay long, so Alex patted her on the head and looked at Kressen.

“Gigas seems like a handful, Mr. Kressen. Is he always like this?” She’d never quite seen such an… energetic pokemon before. She wouldn’t be able to control a fire type that hyper, anyway. But, not terribly long after she asked her question, she found herself letting out a squeak, staring wide-eyed at a rather massive looking four armed weight lifter approaching Gigas.

“… Machop turns into that?” she asked, utterly surprised, probably more surprised than she should’ve been, she realized. After all, little Gigas would soon be a fire breathing dragon, and Roll would be, well, a much larger rock dinosaur, and even little Mya would roughly double in size. I guess it makes sense that a sorta-tiny weight lifter would become a super-giant weight lifter…

Gigas didn’t take too long to get back to his trainer at all, and Roll found herself very happy her mom didn’t let her run off and play. Thankfully, Mr. Gou didn’t look at anyone else with his annoyed face. Alex quietly ordered her cheeseburger and cheese fries, while Roll pointed excitedly at a sweet poffin. “For desert,” Alex clarified, completing the larvitar’s order (over her exasperated sighs and pouts) with, thanks to Hayley’s advice, some iron enriched pokemon food.

Surge idly wondered if his young challenger would send out the same Swinub he'd seen yesterday, but that didn't appear to be the case, at least not yet as the boy with the oddly familiar haircut released a Pokemon Surge hadn't seen in quite some time - an Ariados. The good news was that he'd be able to shock it, and if it had any Poison-type moves, they wouldn't work on Magneton. Surge shifted his shoulders and Raichu jumped down, deciding he'd rather watch from the sidelines instead of up here and he darted over to where Kasiya and Riza sat, plunking himself down next to the girl he'd known for the better part of both their lives.

Surge cracked his knuckles and grinned as Ariados made the first move. Her raised abdomen seemed to come alive, the face pattern standing out brilliantly and making the arachnid look quite scary. Magneton, while being an inorganic Pokemon, was a bit off-put by the Bug-type, drifting back a bit and all three eyes staring at her warily. Surge simply eyed the bug, grinning. "Magneton, use Metal Sound," he said. The Magnet Pokemon droned loudly, the screws in its body beginning to spin rapidly and creating a sharp, metallic grating sound that echoed through the gym.

Kasiya watched Bubbles as he continued to nom on the potion vial, wondering if the medicine would still serve the same purpose if it was ingested, rather than being sprayed on, but then again, as a Pokemon with no real discernible anatomy, she hadn't seen any real wounds on him to begin with. She glanced over at Riza as the dark-haired girl had slid closer to her, quickly realizing that she wasn't overly fond of the Muk and considering that they already didn't seem to get along too well to begin with, she sort of hoped to remedy that. Kasiya thanked Bubbles again for his efforts earlier and returned him to his Great Ball, patting Raichu on the head as he'd chosen to join them, and she wondered how hard it was for the mouse to be sitting this one out. The mouse sighed and bumped his hand against her before waving at Riza. Nope, he wasn't really one to hold grudges.

Riza's sudden question caught her off-guard, and she was left sitting there, mouth hanging open slightly. Riza certainly knew where to strike with her words, even if she didn't mean it that way. "I-I... uh... well..." The words were hard to find, and she bit her lip, tears filling the corners of her eyes as she now stared at the floor as Crenu's Ariados led off with Scary Face. She glanced up at the battle for a moment but didn't really see it, and then back to her father's Raichu and then back to the raven-haired girl, unaware of the fact that Riza had been trying to provoke her into a battle. Magneton's Metal Sound filled the area with a terrible noise, and she winced. "I'm sure those two won't mind if we step out for a bit," she said, gesturing to Surge and Crenu. "Let's go outside, and I'll, uh, I'll fill you in on what happened." She petted Raichu again and made her way outside, not realizing that Raichu had followed them, also intent on getting the full story. Once outside, the blonde took a deep breath, wondering just how many more times she'd have to explain this.

Though the short walk had caused his feet quite a lot of discomfort, and the occasional twig stabbing him between the toes, Jake didn't complain, not even once, as he had no one to blame but his own lack of foresight. At one point he caught sight of a small, red and black Pokemon peeked out at them from behind a tree, but before he could look again it had vanished, a quiet, almost ringing-sound the only thing left behind. "Huh," Jake murmured, looking up at the building that had been the source of all the noise. It wasn't as fancy and elaborate as he'd been imagining it to be; in fact it looked rather old and perhaps a bit run down. The noises coming from within seemed to be the only clue that the place was in working order. Jake saw a flock of Starly land in a patch of grass a little ways from the east wing of the Ironworks, but they scattered a moment later when a sudden burst of light frightened them off. Jake raised an eyebrow and glanced at Jade, wondering if she'd seen it too.

"Yeah, we should probably go in. What's the worst that could happen? They might yell at us for trespassing and kick us out, but on the other hand they probably have a better idea of where we are than we do." He took a deep breath and started to cut across the dew-soaked grass until he reached a gravel road. After that it was a small walk, gravel crunching beneath their feet, and they were at the front entrance. Jake could smell smoke and a general odor of something burning, and it made his eyes water a little bit. He reached up and pushed on the large metal door, which swung open with little effort. "Hello?" he called, hoping he sounded braver than he felt. "Can someone help us? We're a bit lost and we need some help..."

Karrigan was clearly able to see that Amy was still quite eager to get to Vermilion and have her first gym match, and she could only hope that the brunette's gym debut went better than hers had. As they continued walking, the Meowth had continued to follow them, though whenever Karrigan would glance back, the feline had hidden himself from sight. She wasn't sure why he was following them but she thought it might have something to do with Amy, or perhaps he was hoping they could give him some scraps of food, but whatever he wanted, he wasn't giving up.

At long last they reached an arch that read "Vermilion City" and Karrigan sighed with relief, already able to feel the change in the atmosphere between here and Celadon and Saffron. As the redhead moved forward, she heard Amy speak and she turned to see that the Meowth had emerged from hiding, now staring at Amy with intense eyes. He didn't so much as blink when Amy told him they had no food, and then Karrigan understood. She smiled, watching as the cat pawed at the Pokeballs set on Amy's belt, and once Amy understood as well, and just like that, the bespectacled girl had a new Pokemon partner and friend. "Congratulations," she said, smiling genuinely. "It's too bad that all Pokemon captures aren't as easy." They started into the city now, and Karrigan nodded affirmatively. "Let's go to the gym. None of our Pokemon need healing, and I know you're eager for that battle." Now, the only problem was finding it, as she wasn't very familiar with this place.

Running as fast as she could was proving to be more and more of a sucky decision the further she went. It had become obvious almost immediately that she was not going to out run the starly giving chase. Even if she could, she was sure they would then just use Quick Attack to close the distance. But this was the best option for keeping Moody from further injury. Jenea scanned the Pokédex at hand one more time to see if there was any way of calming the flock of Starling Pokémon, or at the very least why there was a flock attacking her, when a single line of text caught her eye: “Because they are weak individually, they form groups.” She snapped the Pokédex shut. “I’m just going to assume you made the flock leader (if they have one, I guess) angry and he’s retaliating in kind, right?” she addressed Moody.

It was only then when she took a look at her Weather Pokémon’s cheeks swelling up in preparation for an attack. “Moody! Don’t provoke them anymore!” she shrieked, the panic in her voice surprising herself. It took her a second to realize exactly why she was starting to freak out. Memories of over-excited pidgeys pecking her and spearows’ talons digging into hand while taking care of them came to mind, bringing with them the pain those accidents caused. She did not want imagine what it would be like to have a bird like that purposely attack her, let alone a group of a dozen or more of them. But it was too late. Moody unleashed a torrent of Clear Smog into the heart of the flock. The thick stream of white smoke streamed over Jenea’s shoulder, blowing strands of violet hair out of the way. Slipping the Pokédex into the suitpurse slapping against her side, Jenea used her now free hand to hold Moody closer to her, making him lose sight of the flock as well as forcing him to end the attack. She pushed herself to run faster with new found energy,

The jet of cleansing smog caught one or two particularly slow starly off guard and halted them, but the bulk of the flock simply banked to the sides or flew above the attack. The starly grew louder in their squawking and some of them regrouped and pressed on. Others, however, had had enough of the futile chase. Five of the starly remained outside of the group, wings outstretched and unflapping. They glided for brief second in synchronization, losing speed with the rest of the group, when one of the birds gained a sudden burst of speed while leaving behind a white trail of energy. The others took aim and followed up with their own Quick Attacks, each swooping in from different angles.

Jenea caught sight of a group of people and Pokémon in front of her. Just one guy and one girl from the looks of it, and a handful of random sized Pokémon she was unfamiliar with. The only one she could identify with any sense of accuracy was the eeveelution; it looked a lot like an eevee, but was seemed way too big from this distance and seemed a tad red, so it was probably a flareon. Other trainers. They might be able to get these birds off of me. Jenea opened her mouth to talk when the first starly blindsided her with its Quick Attack, ramming full force into the side of her head. The pain and impact of it caught her off guard and made her clamp her mouth shut, almost biting her tongue in two. “It is unbecoming to crawl to grovel at one’s feet and beg for help. A strong trainer only needs his or her Pokémon. And nothing else,” a quote courtesy of mother clicked into her mind. Another starly flew into her lower back and she winced from the pain, holding the struggling castform even tighter. I wouldn’t exactly be begging for help, would I? But it would be best to rely on Moody… A third starly slammed right in-between her shoulder blades, getting lightly tangled in her purple hair before fluttering away. Jenea stumbled forward, barely keeping herself from falling head first onto the ground and smothering Moody. With her head hung low, she just kept trudging on ahead as fast as she could, head hung low with her now mussy hair obscuring her face. How pathetic do I have to look? The two remaining speeding starly zoomed passed her and made a wide 180 turn, aiming for Moody this time. This is going to hurt.

The next words uttered by Joe the Rocket were ones that Jasper really didn't want to hear, as they were preceded by the sound of a Pokeball opening as well as the telltale flash of light as a Pokemon was released. "Sandshrew, use Rock Smash on that wall," Joe growled, and the mouse obeyed, jumping forward and raising its claw.

"Ditto, fall back!" Jasper shouted. "Totodile, Water Gun!" A faint shimmer passed through the Transform Pokemon as it reverted back to its true form, hovering in midair for a split second before coming down to land on the ground with a squishing sound. At the same time, Totodile had jumped up, jaws clamped shut as she gathered water in her mouth and the moment Ditto was out of the way she unleashed a stream of water. Maybe it was natural skill on the young Totodile's part, or maybe it was Jasper's ridiculously good luck, but the Water Gun scored a direct hit to the attacking Sandshrew's stomach, and the force of it threw the very-surprised mouse backward and into the adjacent wall, leaving a Sandshrew-shaped indent as the Pokemon slid down and crashed to the floor. Ditto took the opportunity to slide back and take cover behind Jasper, still having vision troubles from the Flash.

"What the hell!?" cried Pete.

"It's a kid and his Pokemon," growled Joe. "That blue Ditto must be his, but it's gonna be ours! Sandshrew, get up and get 'im! Rapid Spin!" Shaken and quite wet, the ground type got to its feet, not looking as eager to fight as its trainer did. "C'mon, Pete, help me out, here!" he shouted as his ground type curled into a ball and launched itself at Jasper's Totodile. The gator hadn't fully recovered from her first attack as the situation was making her nervous, and now the feisty mouse was crashing into her, sending them both falling back.

Jasper, for once, was speechless. He was used to being the thief or con artist, but now the shoe was on the other proverbial foot. Pete, a bit less aggressive than his partner, had quietly ordered his Koffing to use Tackle, though the target was unclear until the purple gas ball was drifting right at him. Without really thinking he held Paras out in front of him. "Stun Spore!" he demanded. Paras, still riding high on his confidence boost, narrowed his eyes at the oncoming poison type and the mushroom waited for just the right moment to unleash a cloud of paralytic spores into the Koffing's face.

"Ooh, I love sundaes," Hayley said, having already pinpointed it on the dessert menu. "Just so long as it's drenched in whipped cream and strawberry sauce." She took a look at the menu, already having an idea of what she would like to order as she scrutinized the Pokemon food section. She was rather impressed by just how many different types they offered, though before she could make a decision, she noticed Gigas hopping around the tables out of the corner of her eye. Keeping a firm hold on Mya so the Rattata didn't scurry off, she then watched as an impressive Machamp marched out. An excited squeak escaped Hayley's lips but she kept herself in check, instead watching the rowdy little Charmander choose to end his fun in games in lieu of being pounded to a pulp by the very bulky busboy.

Hayley giggled and smiled up at the four-armed fighter as his demeanor changed now that the troublesome firebug had settled down, and she proceeded to order three bowls of Pokemon food, as well as a few of those sweet Poffins for dessert. For herself, she ordered a strawberry milkshake, club sandwich and a poutine, having only realized at the last moment that cheesy fries were just poutine without the gravy. Once all their orders had been given, she took the two other Pokeballs from her bag and held them up.

"Since we'll be sitting down to a meal together, I might as well introduce my other two Pokemon. This sweet gal is Tisyphone," she said, letting the bashful little Nidoran out first. The bluish Pokemon looked around nervously, eyes settling on Gigas for a moment before she realized he wasn't Cynder. "Kressen, Gigas, you'll probably get a kick out of this guy," she said, her grin never broader as she released her own, and far-less rambunctious Charmander. "This is Cynder! He's my first Pokemon and best friend," she said, obviously quite proud. Cynder studied the group his trainer had managed to become a part of, nodding to each one respectfully. When his gaze settled on Gigas, he gave a toothy grin and waved. It had been quite some time since the last time he'd seen another of his kind. "Do you guys have any other Pokemon?" Hayley asked, gently patting Tisyphone on the head to reassure her.

Riza had taken note that Crenu was choosing to use Ariados, and she silently hoped the spider was up to it after the harsh training she'd endured earlier that morning. She was a little surprised to see Surge's Raichu join them and he waved at her. Riza smiled a little and waved back. At first, Kasiya's reaction to her question made the dark haired girl smile, but then she was at a loss for words and almost looked like she was going to cry and Riza felt a slight pang of guilt. She too winced, partially from the Metal Sound and partially from the guilt. She glanced at the battle, and then back to Kasiya, only able to nod. Perhaps bringing up Kasiya's Raichu hadn't been a very good plan.

She glanced behind her as the Raichu followed them out of the gym, and she quietly hoped Surge wouldn't yell at them for it. Eris trotted along with them, sniffing at the Mouse Pokemon and still wondering when she was going to get a chance to battle today. Riza looked at the ground, and then up at Kasiya, easily able to see that something was wrong. "Okay. So, tell me what happened," she said, wishing she didn't feel as concerned as she did.

Wow, that Ambipom sure could move! Roserade had to hop back as the agile monkey had did a hand-stand and was now swinging his tails, one after the other, toward her and she avoided the first but the second caught her right across the shoulder. This time she managed to avoid being knocked down and she danced back a ways, putting some distance between herself and Luffy.

"Your Ambipom is very strong," Gardenia commented, still smiling quite brightly. "Roserade, Magical Leaf," she called. Roserade did a twirl, both bouquets of roses on her arms glowing as a barrage of brightly-covered leaves were sent spiraling toward the normal-type. This battle was fun!

"Yea, he is an energetic lil pain, isn't that right?" He scratched the top of the Pokemon's head getting a little purr in response. Gou nodded as he went to go tell Lou their orders. "The trick to dealing with Gigas is to have as much energy as he does." That was a hard thing to do since the charamander never seemed to tire.

Kressen looked over to Hayley as she spoke up about having more pokemon. He smiled as she released her Nidoran and her own charmander. "Well, that's quite a coincidence there." Instead of bowing back to the other charmander Gigas would run up to it and start circling him.

It had been a long time since he had seen another charmander, so he was excited. He'd poke the other charmander trying to goad him into a game of tag. "Wait until after lunch and we're outside buddy." Gigas huffed, but would stay near the charmander and start squeaking excitedly. "Gigas is my only pokemon at the moment, but I had planned on catching a new pokemon in Viridian Forest. I ran into a bit of trouble though. If Alex hadn't come along Gigas and I would have been in real trouble."

Amy already enjoyed the seaside city more than Saffron or Celadon; Vermilion, at the very least, seemed to have a nice breeze going. She took it all in for a moment, listening to the steady crash of the waves and feeling the breeze through her hair, a small smile on her lips. She nodded in agreement to Karrigan's suggestion that they head to the gym first, since she was right, neither of them had battled anyone on the way here. Meowth (she needed to think of a nickname for the Scratch Cat Pokemon) had come in peace, so she didn't even have to worry about healing him up.

Amy began to head forward, already looking around at the buildings to discern which of them might be the gym. The only familiar places she spotted were the Pokecenter and Pokemart, thanks to their specifically colored rooftops. But the gym did not afford them that luxury, and she wasn't sure which direction to head in. "Excuse me," Amy called out to an older woman passing by, "do you happen to know where the gym is?" She smiled and pointed down towards the shore, saying that it was a large building close to the harbor.

"All right, thank you!" the bespectacled girl said with a grateful smile, already turning towards Karrigan. "Shall we?" The trip down towards the harbor was quick, though she might have been hurrying a little. The thought of the upcoming gym battle made her both anxious and excited, and she seemed to move a bit quicker because of it. When the two had reached the harbor, Amy glanced around and spotted a large building that was presumably the gym, with two girls standing outside. She smiled again and began to head over, but as they neared, the girls grew clearer and clearer. And Amy realized that she knew one of them.

"Riza," Amy said quietly, slowing in her steps. It seemed that Riza was having a conversation with another blonde trainer, and Amy didn't necessarily want to interrupt them. She stopped, looking at Karrigan, then back at both of the girls. She wasn't sure what she was supposed to do all of a sudden.

Jake had a good point; even if they did get yelled at, the workers here just couldn't leave two kids lost and alone out here. Or at least, she could make sure they wouldn't. She followed the blonde into the factory, pausing and taking in the surroundings. It was a big place, but she couldn't see anyone from the entrance. When Jake called out, there seemed to be a shuffling from the shadows and a worker emerged, wiping the sweat from his brow.

"Lost?" he repeated, his voice a bit gruff. Jade nodded a little, stepping up beside Jake. "Well, you're at the Fuego Ironworks, if that helps any. Just a bit north of Floaroma." He stood there, not sure what these kids wanted from him, and he had to get back to work soon. His head turned at the sound of something scraping along metal, like someone was cutting it. Jade winced a little and asked, a little loudly, how they could get back to Floaroma. "Just head south, kid. You'll cut through some trees and the flower field and you'll be there." The raven-haired girl nodded a little, then glanced at Jake, eyebrows raised, as if to ask whether or not that was all they needed, or if they had more questions. He was probably much better at the whole people thing than she was.

After Gastly’s last attack, Mawile was ready to get this fight over with. Luckily for her, most of her attacks were super effective against her ghost type opponent. Now that he wasn’t hiding she went in for the kill, her pony-tail jaw glowing with a dark energy as she bit down hard on the surprisingly solid cloud of gas. Yokai winced as the teeth tore through his spirit and try as he might, he couldn’t seem to escape their grasp. Although the dark type energy from her bite attack was wearing thin the Mawile spun like a top, tossing Gastly like a discus at the door.

Meanwhile, Rajasi had heard a commotion from the other side of the restroom and was making his way around the building. He had just about come to the door when suddenly it burst apart as a small blue-black blob flew through it. Realizing it was Claire’s pokemon, the brown haired boy ran into the doorway to investigate. “What is going on he--mreephh!” He shouted as a small tan and black creature jumped from within the room and used his head as a stepping-stone.

”Don’t let it get away! That’s the thief pokemon!” Claire shouted as she also ran through the doorway, pushing Rajasi aside. The poor boy and the Cacnea on his shoulder were a little slow on the uptake as they spun around to maintain balance. The blonde haired girl looked about but it was already too late, the strange pokemon had disappeared. “Dang!” She exclaimed, noticing that Yokai was also knocked out. She returned him to his Pokeball, hopefully she could find a healing machine later on.

"I think that was a Mawile." The brown haired boy added now that he had a chance to catch his wits. "I'm not too sure though since I only saw a glimpse of it."

"What's a Mawile?" Claire asked.

"They're a Pokemon native to Hoenn where I'm from." Rajasi added. "If it was a Pokemon from a different region that'd explain why most of the people around here can't identify it. But as far as I know they can't learn any attacks that put people to sleep." The boy shrugged his shoulders. "In any case, did you find Moti then?"

"Yeah, he's inside asleep along with a few other people. It's kinda surprising they all managed to sleep through that ruckus though." Claire said with a bit of a blush as she realized that the door to the rest house was now completely shattered. It was made up of mostly glass so you really couldn't blame her Pokemon for accidentally destroying it by being used as a projectile. "Let's see if we can get him up and moving." The girl added as she carefully made her way through the pieces of glass, wood, and metal that lay strewn in the opening.

As the metalic scrapping noise filled the arena Crenu seemed unbothered by it, as his eyes never strayed from battle. Ariados tried to mimic her trainer as best she could, but as the sound was directed towards her it was much harsher, and the piercing sound shook her to the core. Not wanting to engage in a stat dropping war where his side was becoming more vulnerable to Magnetons already high special attack, Crenu quickly changed tactics. With the amount of speed Ariados would have after a Scary Face he hoped she wouldn't be taking hits to begin with. "Set it up, use Spider Web." He said calmly as he looked down range at Surge with a steel glance. He knew he couldn't intimidate the soldier, but he wasn't trying to anyway. Ariados shook her head to rid the sound, but it still rang in her head annoyingly as she suddenly darted left and right, webs shooting from her jaws and her spinneretes at the same time, the strong sticky silk clinging to every wall ceiling and the floor. She jumped into the air spinning around as she spun silk, and while it looked as though she was shooting webs at random it could soon be seen that they covered the fight area totally, and that all the strands were connected in one way or another making it all one network crafted by the expert weaver. Ariados landed on one of her webs, suspended above the ground looking downwards at her prey ready to strike from what was now her home turf. Crenu nodded as he looked at her, he was impressed for once. But a pretty web wasn't enough to prove she wasn't useless. Ariados still had to pull off his next few orders flawlessly, this match was sure to be something else, and he wondered how Surge would react to his strategy.

Mike smiled darkly as he watched Milo thrash about on the ground, not intending to be secretive of how much he was enjoying this. "Doesn't feel so good, does it?" he sneered, returning Kilik's thumbs up. He was so wrapped up in the spectacle that it didn't even register that anyone was even here until he was nearly tackled by Kasiya. The girl wrapped her arms tightly around him, but was obviously holding back. He smiled, spinning in her grip to face her. "Oh, no. None of that." Mike said softly, holding his arms out. "After all this, a hug from you should be nothing!" He squeezed in return, immediately feeling the error in his decision. With his day-long adrenaline rush gone, he began to feel every single scrape and bump that had happened to him. Just how many bones had he sprained-broken even? And this heat. It was like a full-body sunburn. But you know what? It was worth it. He smiled through the pain and squeezed tighter. "I know you did." Mike said warmly. "All along." he repeated. "All along it was always you." For the smallest moment, he closed his eyes, letting himself be lost in her embrace. The top of the Cinnabar volcano, the kiss they shared, her determined eyes as she fought for him. As he pulled away, his emerald eyes met hers.

"Ohhh boy." a distant voice whispered faintly.

Mike was so out of it, that it took Kasiya's surprise to clue him into Flannery being there. Thankfully, the two girls had been distracted with each other so he could compose himself a bit. "Is she gonna hit me...or..." he whispered to himself, turning around to see a sobbing Flannery drape herself over him and begin to break down. Before Mike could say anything, a familiar chuckle rattled weakly from the ground.

You think you're free from pain? the shadow laughed. You think you've solved everything? Look around you. He gestured to Kasiya and Flannery, then to Keegan. As he spoke, the darkness underneath him began to spread. You've only made things worse.

"Whatever happens, Milo, I will find a way to deal with it on my own." Mike replied. "And you won't be there to hold me down."

On your own?! Milo snapped back, rising up from the ground and pointing a sharp finger at the boy. You'll-! He was cut off by another shadowy hand reaching up from the darkness beneath him and grabbing him by the wrist. Wha- Milo sputtered, before a mass of arms like that one poured forth and grabbed him.

Foolish girl. A soft, feminine voice whispered, as a shade not unlike Milo rose from the darkness below, its fingers wrapped around the phantom's wrist. Placing the blame on herself when it is clearly not of her choosing. She was cast into this and asked of too much. Do not let this one tell you otherwise. It turned to Mike expectantly. He nodded, and on command, the shade twisted its grip; Milo grunted in pain. Mike watched as dozens of black shades began to rise from the ground and surrounded Milo, who looked around in the first display of genuine fear he'd ever seen.

"Oh no. Not more of them!" Sasha whined, hiding behind Keegan.

You're...no! How did you get out?! the phantom demanded. I locked you all away for good! Without reply, the one that had grabbed Milo's wrist pulled back, effortlessly tearing Milo's arm from his body. The phantom wailed, and could only struggle in futility and pain as the rest descended upon him. No! Stop! he shouted between screams. For the first time, his ever-present crescent smile curled down as he was mercilessly torn apart, his pieces fading like smoke in the wind until all that remained was his head on the ground. With his last breath, Milo uttered one final threat before wafting away. You will never be alone.

It is done. The feminine voice said before turning back to Mike. The rest of the phantoms began drifting about the room, floating among the trainers.

"Who are you?" Winona asked, backing up. She glared at the nearest phantom.

We are the spirits of the Lilycove fallen. A nearby ghost answered. We follow the vessel of our destruction.

"And that's...Mike?" the gym leader asked.

Correct. We were bound by the one you call Milo. said another phantom nearby Keegan. But no more. We are free again to roam about the vessel.

"And you won't hurt us?" Sasha asked meekly, having obviously had her share of abusive shadow-people.

We cannot harm. We only exist as reminders. Our essence is locked with the vessels. It is strange that you can even see us.

It is because of me. Portabello said after a long silence. The Breloom was noticeably exhausted, the blue glow in his eyes slowly dimming as he struggled to maintain consciousness. Master. I cannot hold out much longer.

Interesting. The feminine-voiced ghost said to Mike. Vessel. It has been a long time. With your freedom comes ours. Once again you shall hear the whispers of the dead.

Long ago, after the Lilycove Incident Mike began hearing whispers in the wind, a presence and a feeling that he was never alone. Soon after the shadows on the ground began to waver until they soon began to rise out of the darkness and speak to him. They claimed to be the spirits of those killed in the Incident, and soon showed up by the dozens, always around him and speaking to him. No one else seemed to notice them. It didn't last long, though, as soon after Milo showed up, becoming the only entity that would speak to him. He had said something about 'getting rid of those annoying things for good' before beginning his cycle of torment.

"Thank you for helping me get rid of him." Mike said to the ghost.

We did nothing, it replied bluntly. You have been granted freedom. Do not waste it. We will be here. The feminine-sounding ghost faded into the ground, the rest of them disappearing accompanied by a thud as Portabello fainted to the ground. Mike quickly walked over and gently ran his hand over the Breloom's leafy cap. A proud smile curled his lips.

"Never do you disappoint me." he said softly, letting out a sigh.

"Are zh'ey gone?" Sasha asked, peeking out from behind Keegan.

"For you." Mike said, looking up. Proton floated down with the tattered remains of the boy's backpack, dropping it at his feet. Mike recalled Portabello and Proton and looked at Maxie, then turning to Flannery. "Why don't we get out...of..." he stumbled backwards. "Why don't we...heh..ge-" His wounds and fatigue finally catching up to him, Mike's body shut down mid-sentence and the boy crumbled to the ground.

Raichu jumped a little when he felt something touch his tail and he spun around to see Riza's Quilava busily sniffing at him. His ear twitched and as much as he wanted to zap her into oblivion he stopped himself and instead turned to face Kasiya as it seemed she was ready to start. The blonde looked up at Riza, the tears still threatening the corners of her eyes even though she furiously tried to wipe them away - she really didn't want to cry in front of Riza, of all people. "It was during the Slateport... incident," she said, choosing her words carefully, and letting her gaze fall upon the tall, dark-haired girl to gauge her reaction. Riza had been there, after all, so she figured that they both remembered it rather well. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw two girls, probably around the same age as she and Riza, approaching them, though Kasiya realized they were probably heading for the gym, or going right past. Knowing she didn't have to go into full detail, she decided to cut to the chase. "Anyway, to make a long story short, my Raichu's Pokeball somehow came loose from my belt, and one of the Rockets grabbed it before I could, and she took off. That's pretty much it." Her father's Raichu looked as though he'd paled a little, and his ears and tail drooped as he let the words sink in. So Shocker had been stolen by Team Rocket. He knew he should have been surprised, but he wasn't. He was, however, surprised to hear that Shocker was no longer a dinky little Pikachu, but a fully-grown Raichu, like him.

She sniffed a bit and once again wiped her eyes with the back of her hand, now studying the two female trainers as they'd stopped. The girl with brown hair and glasses looked very familiar but Kasiya couldn't figure out why, though she knew she'd never seen the redhead before. She took a deep breath and pushed her sadness away, as she was so adept at doing, and smiled brightly at the two. "Hiya," she said, waving, and fairly certain they were here to visit the gym. "You look lost, is there something we can help you with?"
=-=-=-=-=

Jake folded his arms across his chest, trying not to glare at the worker as he informed them of their whereabouts, which they already knew. Jade asked how to get back to Floaroma and the worker gave an easy answer. Jake realized they probably hadn't gone as far down the river as they'd initially thought. He stole a glance at Jade, noting the almost-questioning look she gave in return. "How far is it to Route 205? We also need to get to the forest," he added, shifting uncomfortably on his feet. Even though he'd been looking forward to some sort of civilization to get back to, the Ironworks didn't smell so pleasant and he didn't like the look the worker was giving them.

"Hey kids, get lost, this is a factory, not a playground!" A second worker had made his way to the door, a lit cigarette dangling from his mouth and not aiding in his already bad smell. He glared at Jake though his gaze softened a bit as he studied Jade. Jake rolled his eyes.

"We were just asking for directions," the blonde said, frowning. "We were lost, and needed help. We're not looking to cause trouble."

"Yeah, well, kid, like I said. This is a factory, it ain't no information booth. Now get outta here, before I call security-" Before the worker could finish his sentence, a small, silver blur came streaking onto the scene, and for a moment the only sound was the crackling of electricity and then the whole area lit up as a bolt of lightning fell from the sky and struck the worker. It wasn't an overly strong bolt but it was enough to stun the worker and he staggered back, starry-eyed as his cigarette fell to the ground.

"It's that damn Magnemite again," the first worker shouted angrily, steadying his coworker. The offending Magnemite drifted down, seemingly interested in how the shock had affected the human. It noted the two younger trainers and did a lap around both of them, and Jade's Pokemon before drifting through the open door and buzzing away somewhat happily. The worker, however, was quite irate. "That damn thing hangs around here, constantly zapping everyone. You kids all right? It didn't shock you, did it? Last thing we need is a gorram lawsuit."

But Jake hadn't heard the worker, as his head had whipped around and he was now tracking the Magnemite's movements with his eyes. It hadn't gone far as it seemed interested in poking at a flower. He didn't know why, but he felt a rush of excitement at the thought of catching that Pokemon. "Uh, yeah, I think we're good, right Jade?" he said, already backing up. "Thanks for the help, we should be fine." He didn't give the others a chance to answer before he went running toward the Magnet Pokemon, already fishing a Pokeball out of his pocket. I don't know why, but I want that Pokemon, he thought, grinning broadly.

Amy's easy capture of the Meowth had caused Karrigan to think back to how she'd met and captured her own Pokemon, namely Aegeus and Zaira. It had been back in Sinnoh; Oreburgh, to be precise, when she saw a male trainer picking on a younger boy. The younger boy held a battered Starly, defeated at the hands of the older boy's Geodude. Karrigan remembered the kid's arrogant attitude and how he boasted that he would soon become a member of the town's gym. Normally not one for confrontation, Karrigan had stepped up to defend the younger boy, where Ikouma first took out the Geodude, and then followed it up by bringing down the boy's Onix. That had inspired her to catch a Rock Snake of her very own. Later, down in the Oreburgh Mine and with the help of the Oreburgh City Gym Leader, Roark, she met Aegeus, who broke out of all but one of her Pokeballs before deciding for himself that he liked the tiny human and chose to go along with her willingly.

Karrigan had been traveling with Tyra and Isabelle on the day she met Zaira, as the small group had stopped to rest, for Isabelle had previously injured her ankle. Karrigan spotted the Shinx by the edge of a small lake, looking injured and weak, and after she nursed the Electric-type back to health, the Shinx chose to join Karrigan's team. At first Zaira had been quite quiet and reserved, but as she grew comfortable with Karrigan, her energetic and excitable nature had started to shine through. Karrigan smiled to herself at that thought. She did love the crazy little kitten, even though Zaira had gotten them into so much trouble.

Karrigan was broken out of her daydream state as Amy asked an older woman for directions. It seemed the gym was located near the harbor, and considering that Vermilion rested by the sea, it wouldn't be terribly difficult to find. "Yes, we shall," the redhead replied, giving a nod, and after a short walk, they found themselves on the right track. A sign on a post showed them they were in the right spot, and just down the street from there stood the Vermilion City Gym. Karrigan felt her pulse race slightly as they started toward it, not really paying attention to the two girls that were standing just outside until Amy stopped, and said something so quiet that Karrigan didn't quite hear her. Wondering why her friend had stopped, she looked at the girls again. The taller of the two had very dark and straight black hair, and wore an ensemble to match while the other girl was much shorter and had blonde hair pulled back into a braid. Her outfit was green and white and quite cute, though it looked as though she were ready to cry at any moment. Karrigan didn't like to eavesdrop on others, but she couldn't help but overhear the blonde girl say something about losing her Raichu's Pokeball to a rocket, which she found odd considering that there was a Raichu standing right beside her. And then the girl was looking right at her and Amy, smiling, and Karrigan felt her cheeks redden as she looked at the ground. "Hello," she answered shyly, trying her best not to stumble over her words. "We are here to, um, see the gym leader," she went on, nodding to the building and now noticing the crackle of electricity that sparked through the electrodes on the roof of the gym - Surge's famous electrical display. "Is he currently available?"
=-=-=-=-=

Surge's large arms were folded across his broad chest as he looked across the arena toward Crenu, already impressed with the change in the blonde boy's attitude. Sure, he still seemed confident, but there was something different about him. He seemed more together, somehow. Crenu didn't waste any time in having Ariados make herself at home and he returned the challenger's steely gaze as the spider Pokemon filled the arena with sticky-looking webbing. Magneton hovered on the spot, all three eyes looking unimpressed with their opponent as it filled up the whole arena with strands of silk. The screws in its body continually rotated as it waited for Surge to give a command. "This looks interesting," the gym leader said, giving a hearty laugh. "All right, Magneton! Give yer Thunda Wave a try!" he called. The Electric and Steel-type drifted forward, still wearing a blank look as its magnetic body generated a weak current of electricity, which it directed towards Ariados. While this small jolt wouldn't cause damage, it would certainly mess with the spider's speed if it were to hit her, though Surge wasn't so sure it would.
