"You'll be fine! Your weapon is buffering the blunt of the damage! Just keep on your feet and don't pass out!" Cass called to Aleister, gauging the situation a bit before she stepped back to put herself between the newbie hunter and more of the creature, holding the gun up and firing, a serious look on her face.
Her aim could have used some help, but at least she hit the damn thing. She swore underneath her breath before she turned to check on her partner. "Alright, how are you holding up? Is it bad?" she asked.. unfortunately, the masks were kind of..limiting in what she could see of the older boy.HP: 40/40 Target: The Giant Spine-Death Thing Damage: 2 Charge: NA

The air was far too thick and the mass of bodies far too expansive for Minerva do anything but fall forward in defeat. The corpse she had been cradling sunk beneath the liquid at her feet, enveloped in the dark pool of decay--she couldn't do it.
Blythe cooed while Minerva remained silent.
The others had begun to lift out of the muck, heading back to their tent setup with either a limp form, or empty handed. Minnie was one of the ladder, searching the expanse of gray matter and yellowish-orange forms through the mask's heat sensory for Petra. Maybe she had been looking for Minnie just as well...
Back on base the death trainee escaped the eyes of the other hunters and sought out the water bottles and canvas cloths. The smell clung to her ever extremity, arms and legs both blacked by the remains of death. She had to breathe from her mouth to keep from vomiting, pouring water all over herself while her brows slowly began to knit together. She didn't like feeling left out in the dark…She didn't like failing...She didn't like this whole situation.
I can’t believe you sent them here!
As if on queue, Minerva ripped her headset off and gasped as a voice pierced what murmuring conversations had begun, the chatter between superiors loud enough for her to hear even with the piece away from her face. On the other end, someone wasn’t happy and for a moment Minnie felt as if she knew why. But soon the back and forth commentary came to a startling halt as the earth beneath their feet shook, and then as black jagged spikes came through with an angry growl...
Blythe hissed, the sand just below her opening up for the blackened figure. And she did so hastily, running into a roll to the left, escaping the sharp ends of a rising spike. Her pants were audible to all those around her, hands clenching into fists as Blythe’s hold on Minerva’s arms began to loosen. She said through the chaos, the two golden sickles materializing in each of the death trainees hands.

"Over here..." He called back to Jerry, gritting his teeth together as he held his leg. He didn't bother to get up. It hurt too much to move, so instead he remained where he had fallen until some of the pain ebbed away.
"Are you okay?" He asked, taking the mask off with his free hand, so that he could actually see where the other trainee was.
:You shouldn't just lay there! You'll get hit again!:
Shut up, I'll move in a minute...

Dakota was so pleased with his comment that he barely managed to avoid the spines of a large creature attacking the camp.
He tucked and rolled out of the way, missing any damage to himself before groaning.
Yeah, too close for my taste. He eye'd Ariane from his new position before shrugging. If he wanted a shower date then he'd best take care of the monster first.
Sweet, It was time for his first battle.
(Dakota: 40/40 0/3 Charge attack: Phoenix's blessing - When successful, Dakota can pass a barrier along to A: Himself or B: Another Hunter nearby that negates damage for a turn.)

" Wait weapons do that?" This was welcomed news to Aleister, he didn't plan on passing out though... well not intentionally. " I think it just got the skin... I can't tell for sure.... but it feels like a nice scrape..." Aleister answered trying to look behind him forgetting the dumb mask wouldn't help anything. At least she managed to hit it. " My uniform might need stitching too.... I can't tell for sure if it's the blood or because there's a hole but I feel a breeze on my back..." Ugh he was so useless. Also holy s**t that thing was ugly, he pulled Pookie from around his neck so he had a good hold on him and could try to see a little better without the chain being in the way of the mask.... nope.... still nothing. Kat was near ready to tear her headset off. Damn, she was going to go deaf in that ear, she was sure of it. Once the body Candace and her had carried over was set down. "Well..that was..not fun."
Tempted to remove the mask to scratch at an itch on her nose, she paused in her actions as the ground shook. "What the hell was that?" Earthquake? No, something didn't seem right..
:Blast it woman! Move!:
Huh? Oh shi--! Leaping out of the way in the nick of time, Kat rolled to the side, keeping low to the ground for the moment.
:What are you waiting for? Summon me!:
I was getting to it, geez! Reaching up to the start shaped earrings dangling from her ears, she hesitated a moment before summoning Xedis.
:Now, first lesson in combat--shoot the large enemy, not your allies.:
Thanks for the tip. HP: 40/40 SUCCESSFULLY DODGED!

"Yo Babe, You alright?" He watched as Ariane hit the ground hard and moved instantly over to her. "Sorry had to jump roll my way out." He first went down to help her up, though he couldn't do much as the monster moved again, so instead he attempted to take most of the damage that would come at her, in case the monster decided to attack.
Attempting to stand by her and defend her, whilst attacking didn't seem as fruitful as he thought. As Chama heated for a attack, fire slicing around her blade, he made a courageous leap to stab at the beast which ended up in a hit after all. He slid his shamshir down the beast scales before dropping in the human waste marsh.
"Gah, ********. This is really bad." He glowered at the creature. And really embarrassing was that he had done it in front of Ariane. Oh well, at least he'd be a sight to laugh at later.
I know, I know. I'm trying!

Jerry gave a tight whine of panic in his throat as he glanced around, just catching the sight of movement among the corpses, although he still refused to admit to what he was seeing. At Ryan's call, he scrambled backward with a helpful, "Aaah! Aaaaah!!" What was... what was happening? Why were they... what was even...??

Cass nodded. "Yeah, you'd be dead right now if they didn't. Like I said earlier, it is in their interest to keep you alive." she explained, standing so that her back wasn't turned on the creature, but she could look between it and Aleister with some ease. At that moment, however, her attention was on her partner.
"I don't think they gave us bandages for this run, so I can't patch you up at the moment... but you might want to give... Dr H," ugh..." a visit when we go home." she didn't question that they'd be going home at all. In fact, she sounded certain of it. Then again, she was somehow less threatened by this thing than the giant flaming angry bag of rage they'd encountered at the house.
Even Caelius had reached some extremes with it and Cass was not anywhere near as capable as the Death Hunter was by any means. She'd learn that lesson even more on a different battle field, however. Always more.
"Good you're holding up though, THat...was a bit of a surprise..." she growled a bit. She didn't like this.

Aiming the guns at the beast, she fired a single shot from both guns--and missed. "Oh--I think I missed."
:You think? Jack you suck at this! How can you miss a target that size!?:
"Hey, it could be just as much your fault as it is mine. For all I know, you could have fired a blank." Twirling one of the guns, she shrugged.
:Don't kid yourself..Concentrate! Next chance, you better actually hit the target!:

He paused, "OHH right... I... forgot" He sounded sheepish while, in his head Pookie called him a dumbass....
"Well... hopefully it's nothing that'll get infected and we can just tend to it when we get back?" He'd heard about Dr H, he wasn't sure he actually wanted to meet the man this soon. He moved so he was slightly closer to Cass. She was the more experienced of the two of them after all.
He nodded, "I'm surprised as well.... granted I'm currently trying not to freak out... 'cause that's one of those t-things that hide in the shadows right??"
<Stop being a chicken and keep on your toes next time we might can actually get a hit in if you pay better attention to your surroundings> Pookie sounded like he wanted a piece of the action.

Ariane seemed genuinely impressed that he had managed to dodge and land a hit - of course, the bad news for Dakota was that she was still wearing her protective mask, and that meant that her expression was still very much concealed.
"Thanks," She took his hand, helping herself up before making a face at how dirty the two of them now were, "I guess that's the 'Fear infestation' Julie was talking about... You think that was the one who caused all of this? Or something created from this... Mess."
'Oh?'
Ariane just resisted the urge to roll her eyes, turning her attention to the monster instead, holding the chains of her weapon tightly; there was no way she was going to let it do that to her twice! Ugh, how humiliating...

He visibly winced as he struggled to keep his hold on the body, the skin rubber and covered in slippery liquid. Tika made a move to pick up the other half, but after a while she simply dropped it and shook her head. Wilson smiled understandingly. “Yeah, it’s okay.” He began to wonder how he had mustered the guts to actually pick up the thing and keep holding it.
Caelius’ voice, loud and outraged, rattled through his brains. What? What was wrong? Wilson could sense a sickening feel in his stomach. This must be bad to warrant the Death hunter’s anger. Wilson soon received his answer. A low roar shook the place and he immediately heard Gramps screaming inside his thoughts. [Get out of there!!]
The warning came too late. He already felt the stinging pain in his back as the spikes shot at him. “Crap…Tika?” he hissed. One eye open, Wilson moved to take off his mask and looked at his partner to make sure she was okay.

Things were already starting to get dicy as the woman lifted to her feet to a low crouch. Her hands seemed to pulse with what energy Blythe emitted, and from what adrenaline made Minerva's heart pound in her ears. The movement had begun, the training they had all been subjected to put to action now. In this moment.
Minerva breathed in order to calm her thoughts, tightening the grip she had on Blythe.
Lower body, away from head and tail, left chest cavity...She quickly sifted through the possibilities, watching as other trainees jumped in to the fight and then leapt away to safety. If she wanted to help, she would need to move.
Opening...available...Minerva took off in a sprint toward the monster, arms bent and crossed in front of her, each of the sickles blades facing her target. There! Sweeping outward until the weapons nearly touched at her back, Minnie attempted to land the attack once the distance seemed to be closed well enough...
But the only thing to be sliced was the air, Minerva stumbling into her attack and onto the ground beside the shifting creature. Blythe began to sound alarms within the woman's head, blocked out by the death trainee who was lifting herself and both sickles and making a run for the outskirts; sliding to a stop besides Aleister without a word. Instead she offered him a sideways glance and deep frown.
Not all shadows will be just shadows.

Tedan was once again wondering when they could finally go home when the woman who'd been leading them started screeching through the headsets. The dark-haired traineed winced, putting a hand on his ear and thinking maybe he should just take the damned thing off. Then Caelius answered her, a voice that Tedan definitely knew ... and their conversation was interesting enough that he decided to keep listening.
Something was bringing these bodies here and hiding them? Ech, okay yea that was definitely not good. Before the conversation could continue though THERE WAS SUDDENLY A MONSTER coming up out of the ground and Tedan jumped back away from the spines with a startled noise.
