Best: Oswin.

Worst: Ardan

Yet another hard one for me. I rarely use knights/generals.

Best: Wendy. I recall her being quite formidable if you take the time to level her.

Worst: Wallace. Wallace, really, isn't that bad. However, my personal beef with him is how it is next to IMPOSSIBLE to recruit him in one of the chapters if it's hard mode.

Best: Oswin

Honorable mentions to both FE10 Gatrie and Bors. Bors has perfect availability and growths that completely make him equivalent with Wendy (why no one notices this when praising Wendy is beyond me) but he comes with more time to grow and isn't underleveled. All that in mind, Wendy sucks by comparison. But even though he's the best FE6 has to offer for a General, his stats and domination don't compare with those of Oswin and Gatrie. Gatrie in FE10 is also really fierce, with one of the most ideal stat spreads I've ever seen. He's an excellent candidate for Bexp Abuse and can be one of the best Greil Mercenaries if you use him. Definitely the strongest General/Marshall in this game. He's ******** awesome. But Oswin is even MORE awesome, methinks. Near perfect availability, great support options, enough speed to reliably double enemies throughout the game despite his class, basically the best physical tank you have access to in the game (neither Bors nor Gatrie can make that claim), comes stronger than the majority of your party and has good growths. OsWIN. The only complaint you could make about him is that he moves slower than the rest of your party… but that's true for every Knight.

Worst: Arden

Knights are fail in this game. Poor movement coupled with enormous maps? Not cute. And even if you wanted a tank, Lex has the Holy Blood for it AND a horse, and makes a better father for future tanks since the Holy Blood goes to both children without being halved for one of them. Arden will just totally slow you down. At least he nets you the Pursuit Ring though… which he is absolutely not entitled to. Have fun in the castle.

I remember Oswin being excellent, of course, but as I don't use knights and/or generals much, he didn't really stick in my head. For some reason, Wendy came up and I recall that I disliked Bors and Barth in comparison so I just picked her.

Wallace simply annoyed me in his recruitment chapter (not the one in Lyn's arc). I haven't really used him enough to make any judgements.

I don't use Knights very often either. If I'm using one, I'm probably going out of my way to do so.

Wendy gets a lot of love from a lot of people, but I think it's might just have to do with people being attracted to the idea of a little girl in pink armor beating things up. Bors doesn't stick out in the same way, but when one compares them side by side, you realize that they both have the same speed growth and base speed (one of the main selling points people mention about using Wendy is her speed for a Knight), Bors is statistically a better tank, and comes substantially earlier without requiring any babying to catch up with everyone else. It's just most people haven't tried Bors out or compared the stats to come to this realization. They're very similar units (same supports, both affinities boost offense, very similar growths) with Bors winning out in availability and ease of use. I actually wrote up a comparison between the two in a thread on the second page of this subforum comparing the two statistically.

Wallace is statistically inferior to Oswin anyway, if you look at their averages. He's also inferior to Geitz. I don't think I've gotten Wallace since my first or second playthrough, in fact because I always aim for the Geitz chapter and Oswin is the better of the two anyway.

To be honest, I only went for Wallace once.

Oh, and as for Bors - bad memories trying to make him useful in hard mode. I didn't bother with trying too hard, though, due to my dislike for knights.

If you had trouble with Bors, I'd shudder to imagine how much work Wendy would've required.

Yeah. Wallace is pretty much trash.

Ignoring the implications of that comment, I will inform you Wendy worked fine.

Worst: Wallace

I was going to put Dalshin as boss because he can equip a shitload of weapons upon promotion and cap almost everything upon promotion, but his uses are limited later on and gets outshined by my Lara and Marty and with all the magic and Hammer enemy users near the end of the game..

Best: Sheema (FE 3 honourable mentions to a reclassed Zagaro in FE11)- She is essentially an early FE Zagaro archetype, is a woman in the early 1990s who didn't use a staff or magic or ride on pretty little ponies or pegasi, has HOT PINK ARMOUR, looks like a certain sexy Altenna and is all round a great unit and makes a great wall with Doga and Oguma.

Worst: Arden (FE4] (honourable mentions to Xavier [FE5] for being such a pain in the a** to recruit) for reasons said by others already, like Dierdre, I can tell if people didn't play FE4 because armoured units suck in FE4. : p

Best: Tauraneo (sp?) of FE9 by default because he was the only one I ever used. And I don't even use him much.

Worst: IDK. I'm not big on knights/generals.

That's good then. If you like Wendy, you like Wendy. Plenty of people do. But if that's the case the following two points are true:

A) Bors should've worked fine, also.
B) You didn't try to use Bors, and if you did, you didn't try as hard as you had to in order to use Wendy.

@Lyon: If you don't put someone for worst, your vote doesn't count.

Eeeeee, my head is killing me. however, I'm going to vote while I have time, and then crawl back into a deep dark hole and not emerge for a while. x_x

Knights and Generals aren't units I use very often at all, if only because they are slow as molasses and I prefer an army of magic users, lancemen, and swordsmen, most of whom tend to be fast. Plus they have such low movement range compared to most other units, and that tends to annoy me. So, with that said:

Best: Oswin. While I tend to stop using him after about chapter 16/17 or so (mainly because of low movement and I like to give the boots to Ninian/Nils, which sounds kinda stupid, but it does comes in handy, I think), he's pretty much a tank; the chapter after Noble Lady of Caelin, I let him protect Merlinus by himself, and he takes care of the cavaliers that show up without any problems whatsoever, even if I've never used him before that chapter. And if I do bother to promote him, he and Hector can pretty much duo-eliminate most of the enemies in Cog of Destiny. And really, the only downside to him is low movement range, which really only annoys me in Night of Farewells and the chapter before that, when fast units are needed, and otherwise is just a minor nuisance.

Worst: Wallace. In addition to low movement, you're forced to promote him at level 12 in Lyn's story, and then you don't see him again until fifteen-ish chapters later. Not good for anything more than supports and taking up space, really.

And a half hour of attempting to type later, I'm going to find that hole. x_x

Best: Bors, Great availibity and growths to match up to Wendy that if trained can make him pretty good.
Worst: Meg (honorable mention to Arden)
I had to go with Meg over Arden really. The thing about Arden is that actually training him is limited in the game due to large maps and his small amount of movement, meaning he is most likely will be in a castle unless you are getting the pursuit ring for another unit that can benefit from it, or if you were like me, actually used him to lure Ayra away from Genoa which made it easier for me to actually get her. I did looked up what his stats and growths are, though they're not the greatest in the world he could have been a decent unit to used if he was worth using to begin with.

With Meg, who isn't shafted with large maps, is pretty useless in her game. the problem I had with her is the fact that she's a knight who can't really do things that I consider normal knights should be doing, which is tanking. Even with her luck and defense at the beginning she should be ale to do some tanking, but apparently for me she just can't do that. And I'm saying this after she has died multiple times by axe users even at full health.

Best: Oswin. The dude is a tank amongst tanks. I've had multiple playthroughs where he's capped str, skl, spd, and def, had insanely high HP and strong luck, and enough resistance to last a couple of mages. He's got amazing availability too, coming in the second chapter of Eliwood and Hector's arcs. Of course, knights and generals have always been known to have low movement, but Boots can usually clear that up if you don't use them on Nini/Nils.

Worst: My vote's gonna have to go to Arden. I've tried a bit of FE4 and this dude sucks on the large maps. Everyone's all the way on the other side of the map and he's not even made it halfway across. He's better of just camping in the castle than going out to fight.
Go home and be a family man, Arden.
