ღ Thankfully River knew exactly how deep the groove needed to be in the new gun, so she decided that would be done later. She went across the way to check on the dieing fire, and add more fuel for the embers. Heading back to the workroom, River started to carve out the smaller blades from the axe head and left a bit in case of error. She then took the other axe head and measured the bade. ღ

ღ Using the welder River cut out the frame for the second blade and quickly smoothed down any rough edges. Checking the top blade she smoothed it as well then started to work on measuring the teeth like shape for the top blade; what would connect it to the gun. Her music drew her attention again, and she tossed on her headphones. While she tapped her foot and hummed a little, she started to make the teeth like shape needed at the base of the other blade. ღ

ღ River heard a new song start and sat back closing her eyes briefly reminded of a time when Rain and Giglamesh took River to a festival. It was a bittersweet memory, one that tore at her heart. { ๑6 years ago} 9 year old River ran ahead of Giglamesh and Rain grinning wildly as she held her arms out wide taking in the pretty sights. Turning back at them she clasped her hands together and giggled. “Rain! Gig! Look!” She said happily. The sky twinkled with shining stars and the streets were filled with paper lanterns; it was a magical sight. Rain chuckled and glanced at Giglamesh smiling. “Looks like this was a perfect idea. Thanks for that.” She said happily getting a mild shrug in return. ღ

ღ { ๑6 years ago} River sat at the table and sighed resting her chin in the palm of her hand; elbow on the table. They had stopped for dinner and both Giglamesh and Rain were taking forever. River glanced back at the festival and her eyes lit up seeing something fascinating. It was not too far away; maybe just a peek… She thought glancing back at her siblings. “Isn’t that right River?” Rain asked with a laugh glancing back at where River had been sitting; but River was gone. Standing quickly Rain looked around wildly. “River??” She called. Did she wander off? Did something happen to her? Why was I not paying more attention… She thought scolding herself for getting too distracted like that. “River!” She called again and felt a hand on her shoulder. Looking back she saw Giglamesh had stood as well with a cold look in his eye. ”I will find her.” he said. If anyone was responsible for River’s disappearance, they would pay 100 fold, though if it was just River wandering off... she would pay as well. ღ

ღ { ๑6 years ago} Giglamesh spotted River staring up at the sky. He cleared his throat as he crossed his arms. River turned and sheepishly grinned saying, “Did you come to see the fireworks too?” Giglamesh simply frowned and glared at her. “I just wanted to see the fireworks…” She said lowering her head. “Come on.” Gig said with a sigh and he turned expecting her to follow. Back at the tables Rain saw them both return and she hurried over relived. Rain reached her sister and whacked River on the head with a fisted bonk and crossed her arms. “Don‘t you ever do that again!” She asked angrily. River held her head and tears formed as she looked up saying. “I’m sorry…” Rain patted River on the head and sighed. “Be more careful that’s all. Alright?” River nodded and sniffled sorry she made a mess of things. “Rain… Didn’t you want to see the fireworks from the hilltop?” Gig asked quietly and Rain nodded. “When they start, sure.” She said. Both River and Giglamesh pointed to the sky and Rain blinked surprised. Ah! “We’re missing it!” She said and grabbed both River and Gig’s hands pulling them towards the pre-chosen cherry tree she had pointed out when they first got there. Rain was a sap like that always planning ahead. { ๑present time} River smiled sadly and chuckled. It’s pathetic what memories can do… She thought. That was one of her favorite outings, even still after all these years. When things got less hectic; she would suggest taking Mai to a festival like that. It would be fun. Though I’m going to watch her like a hawk… River thought mildly amused. ღ

ღ Using a file River smoothed the nonbladed edges. She would have to back to it later, but this would save some time in the future. She went to check on the fire and added some more fuel to the embers reading the fire for the next round of smithing. Stoking the fire River waited, as patiently as she could... waiting, waiting for a silly fire to get hot enough to continue. Stupid fire... River thought sighing as she took a seat by the door. ღ

ღ River placed the blade in the fire and waited, humming to herself as the embers cracked. The sound was quite soothing, with the soft glow; River found herself just staring at it, lulled by the sound. “Oi! If you have time to laze around, you should clean up the shop.” Dude said peeking his head in the room. That brother of hers came looking with that glare of his if she did not go home… Not my fault she’s obsessed with building stuff. Dude thought with a sigh. River blinked lazily then suddenly stood realizing she was being lulled by the flames. Although the prospects of cleaning was not that appealing, she had nothing else to do and she needed to stay active. Tightening the small pony tail River then pumped her fist in the air. Yush! She thought and went to work. ღ

ღ River checked on the fire a few times as she worked on the spilt paint cans. Luckily only two had cracked open. Wiping her hands on a rag she had the brief thought of being grateful for changing her clothes earlier. This outfit was already ruined, needed to be broken down into a new outfit. Come to think of it, I need to finish fixing my closet… She thought. Usually there was a bin outside of the closet for ones needing to be washed, a bin in the bottom of the closet for clothes needing to be broken down thanks to stains, burn marks etc… then the extendable racks. Using compressed air, the racks could easily store 3x’s more than a regular closet… each; she had four racks. She had been in the middle of repairing it a few weeks back, and never got to finish putting things away. Guess I can do it later… She thought checking the time. Wow… already way past dinner… ღ

ღ Taking a small break River went and made some dinner. After eating she sat back in the chair and propped her boots on the front desk as she munched on a cracker. She mused a little about her other projects, there was one that was nagging at her; saying she needed to re think things. With her poor luck thus far this night; she was starting to agree with that thought. The small delicate parts needed to be dealt with carefully. And being this late in the evening, she really should not take her changes. She stood and dusted off her clothes stretching ready to get back to work. ღ

ღ River cracked the hammer on the blade hearing the faint hiss as the metal rebelled. She loved the smell of hot metal in the evening. Chuckling mildly she shook her head and turned up her music to get her thoughts focused. Thinning the blade River glanced at the finished gun blade trying to make the one before her like the base blade. Sometimes repeating a process never worked out the way she wanted , but it seemed like it was starting to take form. ღ

ღ Dipping the hot blade in the water River went and tossed the other blade in the fire. Stretching River took out the finished blade and lay it aside going back to cleaning the shop. The paint was done being cleaned; though she was only cleaning that mess in the work shop. He only said main room. She thought smirking. Humming along with the music, she started picking up the scrap metal laying around the shop. He is such a freaking slob… She thought, then she pictured her room and gave a sheepish look realizing she was a lot like him. ღ

ღ River again cranked the music as she danced to the song while sweeping the main room. Picking up another scrap part she tossed it into a half empty bucket to be dealt with at a later time. Moving still to the beat of the song she found herself humming along as she swept up the dirt pile before her tossing it in the garbage. She spent another 20 minutes on the cleaning before she went back to her gun blades. Why didn’t I do this earlier? She thought grateful for the distraction to ease her frustrations and anger. ღ

ღ River brought the blade back to the small workshop and used the large metal file she soften the non-bladed edges. Working on the blade she zoned out becoming absorbed into the task. She found herself glancing at the finished gunblade as she worked on the new one. It was going to be a great gunblade. She thought and stopped filing long enough to hold the blade up to see if she needed to work on it some more. It looked like she was ready for the next step. ღ
