A few reports have come through that GW store managers are being trained in the use of the 6th edition rules, meaning a general release is not far away now.

News on the street is that all UK stores belonging to GW are ordered to remove their 5th edition rulebooks from sale. I'm sure the rest of the world is to follow suit.

From Bell of the Lost Souls, so take this with a grain of salt please. Quote: The birds have been chirping, and they are saying that once 6th Edition is launched, the entire multi-wave concept for miniatures may be over from Games Workshop. There is talk that the Chaos Marine codex will launch with all its units, or at least have them shown in pictures in the codex. Its no known exactly what the impetus for this change would be, but if true, it leads back to one of the core issues with the Games Workshop codex/army based concept. Primarily it means that as a player, you have nothing new to buy for your army for the entire 6-7 year timeframe until your codex is revamped. This has had me thinking that fundamentally Privateer Press' model of a pair of annual "omnibus books" that add onto the core game and offer a handful of new units for every faction is superior. In that model, every player of the system has an incentive to buy the new book (because you get new core rules that expand the game), and you get your own new minis to collect for your personal army. The drawback of course is more books to haul around over the life of an edition until the next rulebook version collates all the current stuff into a single book.

Wait and see it is, neither release system really works with their rather draconian information lock down currently in place. Though I'd rather have the full range in one month rather than the current wave system, which leaves you guessing as to what might come next. It's a sad display of GW not willing to fully embrace both the internet and foster a trust in their customers by giving us previews like they used to.

The drawback of course is more books to haul around over the life of an edition until the next rulebook version collates all the current stuff into a single book. Well when you think about it they used to kind of do that anyway. They'd have yearly releases of say, Apocolypse or Cities of Battle or Armageddon, most armies would get a new toy and everyone would have to buy a new book. Every now and then they'd try to resell that book like anyone cared anymore. On that note, GW NEVER seems to collate everything into a giant book. Even in the past edition where they explained the Cityfight rules in the main rulebook they still released Cities of Death , Apocalypse (I think), and Planetfall (Or whatever it's called). Not to mention what do they care about players lugging around more books? Now, while they have steadily been declining in that sort of release there's no reason to think it might not return in 6th edition. At the very least ir's almost guarunteed unless there is some form of giant company changing apocalypse there will be a new Cityfight of Death codex. Storm of Magic (Sic?) for WHFB seemed to do really well and was along that format. I've stopped following most of the 6th edition rumors because at this rate it's just getting silly. New rumors are popping up almost every other day and most of them are varied or contesting each other, but at least this one brings up an interesting topic: This is going to be the first time GW has been doing their completely revamped way of being complete ******** about previews for an entire edition. If they're going to change how they do releases now is as good a time as any.

The big blue book only tackles parts of the Cities of Death rules: how to deal with multi-storey structures. The rest is kept for the actual book itself. Same with Apocalypse, Planetstrike and the Battle Missions book, these are shown off in the big blue book as adverts, but no rules are given. I believe the main reason these expansions are spread across multiple publications is a simple one: Money. Games Workshop makes more money this way and chances of players mashing all scenario types together into one game are slim to nil. Storm of Magic is really just Apocalypse for Warhammer Fantasy, but with a twist. Always wanted to field a unit of Bloodletters in your Empire army? Buy the scroll of binding for the unit and have fun. As mentioned before ad nauseum, GW has become utterly paranoid with sharing information, even going as far as sharing false information in an attempt to clamp down on leaks. It seems to have worked, as to me for the first time we are truly in the dark about what is going to happen and when.

GW has gone into full 40k Inquisition info suppression mode, and even before that they were secretive. To what ends? The loss of sales by people who will wait out for new releases? Doubt it, and even then people from other armies buying counter-stuff to new releases possibly would generate more income. This has become a paranoia for its own sake... Not unlike the 40k mindset razz
