The screeching Erinyes came at him with talons outstretched, and he met it headlong. The Fury's scales prevented his claws from penetrating, so he settled for clasping it around the shoulders while he went for its throat. People assumed that his beak was dull; It wasn't.

The Fury's throat was armored too, but he clamped down and twisted his head. The Erinyes collapsed as blood spurted, and he spat out the mouthful he'd swallowed, and wriggled out from underneath the bleeding corpse, then dove for the Chiro, and the weapons racks within.

Lasten pulled his swords out fron the gut of a Fury, and swung around to catch another on the points. The Furies scales prevented the swords from hitting home, and he was borne down by its wieght. Before the creature could sieze the advantage, he grabbed its beak, and twisted its head sharply. The Erinyes collapsed as its neck snapped, and he struggled to throw the dead beast off him, finally resorting to flaring his shields to lift it off him. He slid free and slugged a Fury as it noticed him and turned from watching the others. The blow turned its head, long enough for him to pull his gun and shoot it in the rear, dropping it, but not killing it.

- Good enough.....-

He suddenly felt something hit him in the back- A Fury had thrown itself at him while he was turned. He went down, twisting as he fell to catch the Erinyes by the throat, trying to stop it from using its beak. It worked, but the Fury still clawed at him. Its deepset red eyes were shining with a insane light, and his gun was lying several feet away. It had him dead to rights. Abruptly, it yelped, and let go of him. As he wastched increduosly, it tottered off a distance, then dropped. He picked up his gun and brought it to bear in one smooth move, then stopped as he saw the Fury convulsing on the ground, something like a finned dart stuck in its side.

- What the?-

a echoing chuckle drew his eye to the white furred, blood covered biped creature in the crashed ships hatchway, a unusal looking rifle held in his paws. As he watched the shooter fired again, a glimpse of something silver streaked home into a Furies back. That Erinyes collapsed and shuddered, just like the other had. Lasten had no time to contemplate what had happened, only time for a 'thank you' nod, before scooping up his gun and returning to the gory work of killing Furies. amazingly, the Shockunits were starting to thin, as the bodies piled up, but there was still two Tanks left, lobbing plasma at the others. As he watched the yellow furred one, a Tank drew a bead on her and charged up. Lasten fired a bolt into its beak to get its attention, then rushed it, firing bolts into its face to keep it distracted. The Tank-Rhino shook its armored head and roared in anger, giving him the opportunity he wanted. He threw one of his swords and fired a round into the underside of its beak as it roared, jerking its head up enough that his blade could hit its somewhat less well armored throat. The Tank gurgled and dropped as blood came from its nares and mouth. He didn't pay it any heed as he put a boot on a sprawled foreleg and grasped the hilt of his sword. He pulled, a spurt of blood hitting him.

- now, only one Tank left.....odd that--

He heard a now-familiar roaring screech from overhead.

- Dragon!-

The massive aerial creature folded its wings and smashed aside the trees with its massive bulk as it landed, the ground shuddering beneath its wieght. The Dragon had its Shields on, unlike the other two he had killed; a shimering rainbow affect played over its scales, and it obviously knew the others were no real threat, as it ignored their weapons and went straight for him. Indeed, most ground fire it could simply ignore with its shields off; with them on, they'd be able to deflect pretty much everything he and the others could throw at it, with the exception of extremly heavy weapons, like the kind mounted on vehicles. He knew two things; the only thing that would work for sure were the Drones on his ship-and that the Dragon was coming straight for him, yellow eyes blazing with the same insane fire of the other attacking Erinyes.

- Running Away NOW!!!!!-

He turned tail and booked it towards the Gate-Ship, hoping that he could get there in time.

He did-and flew into the cockpit viewport head first as it rammed the ship at full speed. the ships displays flickered as control crystals were shaken from their places, and he hurridly slammed a palm down on the control interface and fired the ships Drones the instant they charged, too fast for reliable aiming of the initial Drones. The first four went wild, arcing uselessly into the air, as no heat sources strong enough to activate their homing systems were found. a fifth went wild and looked to follow the first four, but locked onto the last Tank-Rhino as it fired, causing a massive heat plume strong enough to activate its homing systems, and angled into the Rhino-Tank. The Drone activated its special disruption tech at the last second before impact, and it slammed throught the Tanks armor with the ease of a red hot awl through butter before exploding as it passed completly throught the massive biological war machine. The Rhino was alive, but badly wounded, hemmorhaging blood out of the hole in its side.

he sixth and seventh shots also tried to lock onto the same Rhino-Tank, lost the lock as the heat plume their predecessor had homed in on faded, and slammed into the ground amongst a wave of Shock units, the blasts tearing the less armored creatures apart and throwing those not maimed aside like toys. the next four Drones ripped out, the last in the on-board holder ready to fire (He hadn't had time to rig up a Autoloader for the racks of Drones in the cargo bay), and, following his mental steering, lanced headlong into the Dragon as it reared up in surprise.

A golden fireball obscured his view of the raging titan as the Drones detonated against its shields, and he cheered. the blast faded, and a roar of pure hate made him stare.

The Dragon was still alive. Angry, wounded, its scales cracked in a dozen places, maroon running down its shoulders from its mangled wings, and its shields down, the Dragon was still very much alive and now it was enraged with the pain of its wounds.

And now he was out of the only ammunition he knew for sure that would even scrath it.

It reared up and batted the ship aside with talons longer than his arms, and the ships hull was pentrated under the almost monomolecular edges like it was paper. He pulled the emergency bolts on the viewport, and the piece of super hard, perfectly clear material flew off, allowing him to dive out as the Dragon picked the ship up in its jaws and tossed it like a ball. He hit hard, rolled, and looked up at the twenty foot tall, berserking Dragon, and knew he'd be lucky to survive this fight.

"Im getting sick of these things!" Todd thought as he fired at more Furies. He looked over at Asten and saw him take down another tank. "Jeez this guy is crazy! At least he isnt trying to kill us..." he cringed as he heard a loud roar. "What now!?" he watched in terror as he saw a massive dragon land a few feet away from him and the others. '"What the hell is that!?" he thought as he watched as Lasten and the dragon fight. He grinined when he saw the drones explode on the dragon and thought we won. But after the explosion cleared he lost his confindence "Oh we're introuble now...."

"Oh man that thing looks nearly indestructible." Dimitris commented as the last of the prior wave was finished off leaving the Dragon the only thing on the battlefield. "How are we supposed to crack its armor?"
PostPosted: Mon Jul 05, 2010 6:26 pm

"Well we play insanity and hit it till it breaks....or we some how kill it from the inside." Todd reponds to Dimitris's question. He just watched to see what would hapen next. Did lasten have aother tick up his sleeve? Did Laz have anyting planned? He jut didnt know and had to wait till someone made a move.

Rocky sat on the top of the Chiro, firing off explosive rounds into the crowds, grenade launchers and RPGs among the menagerie of weapons he was fring. Then along came big ugly. "Holy f****** hell, mates... I believe we've got a slight problem." Rocky unstrapped his EBR from his back and begn scoping out the Dragon quickly. "Dimitris! Grab my box of explosive rounds from by the window, hurry!"
PostPosted: Tue Jul 06, 2010 10:01 pm

Dimitris crossed over from behind the Chiroptera and tossed the box up to Rocky. "Here man!" He yelled and took an explosive out from the box tampering it to accommodate to his rifle.

From out of nowhere a swift quadrupedal being galloped from the heart of the forest and went past the others holding their ground agianst the roaring beast, stomping and slashing pissed off.
When it made a U-twist it could be seen not to be human, four legs, a metalic head with armor looking domes over its body, and red glare from the eyesight of the helmet it wore. "Regroup and engage from the left side, the left!!!" It shouted in a cybernetic tone, clealry it wasn't all flesh and bone, but a cyborg.
A rumbling sound grew from the thick lush of the jungle floor while a horde of Centaurs led their charge in a war cry.
Firing hot projectiles from their arms when they stampeded in.
(In case youre wondering, I'm leading a horde of Centarumon http://dma.wtw-x.net/dexcentaru.shtml )

((Woah, woah, Laz. It's cool, he's cool. He was here when we were still in Hoboken))
Rocky quickly snatched the box from the air and grabbed an empty cartridge and loaded it with explosive rounds. going prone and aiming at the beast. "There's only two parts of that sumbitch that isn't protected... And I'm gonna hit em where it hurts. ...Man, that was a bad pun." Bad puns aside, Rocky centered his crosshairs on the dragon's eye and fired two rounds, one at each.
"Aim for the squishy parts!"

(long time to be away from posting then...... I don't like it. I'll go along with it......)

Lasten heard the charge of the cyborgs, and frankly didn't care. Not after the Dragon had batted him aside with a paw like a toy.

- Amazing how easy you accept death-
He marveled to himself as he found, upon checking himself for weapons, that his gun was gone, but he still had the two swords. Not that they would do a lot of good, as he watched the Dragons forepaw descend.

- Screw it. Going out with a fight is more interesting than passivly getting crushed like a insect-

He threw pot swords point up, as the massive paw descended, and the paw hit them- and pulled back, to a scream of pain from the Dragon. Confused, he looked to see if someone had hit it in a weak spot, then noticed the blood coming from the underside of the paw. Of course- sensitive, and soft flesh. not much of a weak spot, but enough to keep him from being crushed. That couldn't be all of what had stopped it...

Then he noticed the Dragon shaking its head from something, and glimpsed two smoking holes, one near each eye, and knew that someone had almost gotten lucky with a pair of eye shots.

- unfortunatly....stabbing it in the foot will not kill it, or probably do more than temporarily slow it... and it is wary now of the others.. -

He noticed the weakened and cracked scaling that covered its body, and knew that those points were the only vulnerable areas.

The Dragon knew this, for unlike before, it was not staying in one place to strike, moving too quickly for precise shots. Lasten wondered if, with his enhanced reflexes, he could make the shot, but found after a few seconds of watching, that even he couldn't wouldn't be able to get off a accurate enough shot. The Dragon paused, and swung around to attack the cyborgs who had appeared, laying into them with a passion. The Dragons back was to him, and he saw the only window of opportunity.

Laz dropped another of the armored quadrapeds with a shot from the ShockDart rifle he'd found in the Chiroptera's weapons rack in the cargo hold, and slid another clip of the stunning- lethal now, after some tinkering with the saftey- capacitor darts home, and fired again, watching as the creature he hit jerked and convulsed, then collapsed, faint tendrils of smoke coming from its nose and mouth. Not a pleasent way to kill, but neccessary. He'd accidently shot the first couple with the darts set to heavy stun, then a thought had come- the creatures could be valuable tools to the Corps. Now he was glad of the couple he had only stunned, as a examination of them would be invaluable, as well as any tissue samples he could recover. The Dragon, and the subsequent fight with the Lantean, made him redouble his efforts to kill the attackers, for the Dragon was clearly the main threat, yet Laz didn't want one to get him while he was focused on killing the massive beast.

He had groaned when the Lantean went down, under the Dragons paw, and began to fire at the beast when it roared and lifted its paw- and the Lantean rolling away. He Had lived....good.

The wave of centauroid cyborgs drew the attention of the Dragon, who knew a greater threat from them than the rest of Laz's party, and turned its back to the Lantean. Laz continued to fire, the Darts skipping uselessly off scales, when the Lantean made a running jump and landed on the Dragons long, powerful tail. The Dragon evidently felt the impact, and flicked its tail to dislodge the Lantean, who mearly forced his sword blades into the tiny gaps between scales, and clung like a limpit. Laz wondered briefly what the Lantean was trying, when the Dragon flicked its tail again in response to the clinging humanoid, using his swords as pitons, began to climb up the Dragon.

Lasten had thought the Dragons scales would be cold. oddly, they were warm to the touch, as he made his way upwards, towards the cracked patch of scales he had noticed by the Dragons left foreleg and shoulders. The Dragon roared in pain, and reared, flailing the air with forepaws as it tried to dislodge the painful mite crawling up its armored back. It was difficult to hold on, as the scales naturally had no were to grab, and the hilts of his swords were by now covered in gore, yet he continued to make his slow way upwards, cursing the Erinyes Controller who had thought of all the possible ways to kill its premier war engine and had taken measures to prevent it.

the main thing was, the Dragon had a massivly hard, thick, and tough layer of muscle around its spine, preventing him from simply hacking away at the scales until he had cut its spine away and crippled it.So, he did it the hard way, clinging to its back, and making his way up to the weak patch, knowing that the Dragon could not possibly have the same internal armor everywere; it wouldn;t be able to move otherwise.

Laz now wanted to shake that Lanteans hand and buy him a round of drinks- the guy was clearly either the bravest creature he had ever encountered, or the most insane, for making such a harebrained attempt in the first place, and for contiueing to go through with it. He had seen the maroon blood coursing down its sides of course- and knew that the Dragon was moving too damn fast to take advantage of this. now thought, the Dragon was more concerned with attempting to dislodge the Lantean, and failing, miserably. Laz drew a careful bead on a patch of blood, and squeezed the trigger.

Lasten heard something whistle through the air beside him, and heard the sound of metal hitting flesh. a second later, the Dragon shrieked in agony, and convulsed. Lasten clung to his swords, praying that the barbed shafts would keep themselves inbedded as he slammed againsts unyielding scales with enough force to knock his breath away. Finally, the Dragon stopped, and he looked beside him to see a silver dart crakling with a recent discharge of energy inbedded in a patch of the Dragons hide were a big chunk of scale had fallen away, and knew that the white furred biped who had saved his life once before might have just done it again. The Dragon, never having felt such pain before, swung and looked at its attacker, ignoring the painful flea making his way up its broad back to its shoulders, and rushed Laz. Lasten glanced away in time to see the Dragons jaws snap close- over where Laz had been not a second earlier. Enraged at its prey's antics, it reared out gain, and tried to catch Laz with its teeth again, again, to no effect as Laz kept doging at the last second, even going so far as to slap it on the nose with a paw.

Laz hoped the Lantean was close to hurting or killing this thing, because he was beginning to slow down as his augmentation and adrenaline started to lessen. The Dragon was intelligent to a degree, knew which weapons hurt the most, and went after those wielding them. Intreresting but very predictable behaviour, obviously something programmed into the biological robot. He dodged again, and pulled out a block of Semtex with a industrial strength ahedsive, and ripped the cover off the patch, his finger hitting the "timed" detonation button, and held the button down to keep it from activating- a dead-mans switch. The Dragon snapped again, and he dodged to the side- and kept going. The Dragon snorted in surprise, and about a second or two later, noticed the beeping block stuck to the side of its insensitive muzzle.

Lasten felt the Dragon shudder and fall as the bomb went off. One bloodslick hand, despite the gloves, slipped from its hilt, and he grasped the last one with all his strength as the Dragon, mildly stunned by the blast, hit the ground. He blacked out a second as his head hit scales, and woke up a second later, still clinging, and the Dragon moaning in distress and shaking its head, trying to shake off the effects of the blast, and still flat on its belly. He didn't have much time, so he took advantage of the Dragons pretty flat back, and ran up its back. He had almost made it to the cracked part when it rose. A sword went flying as he lost his grip on the hilt, and he grabbed onto the Dragons crest, finding that he could hold on without too much trouble.

The Dragon was wary, now, of the little mites it faced. Nest-Mother, the voice in the head of all the Children, had told him that the mite who had killed the other two of her Dragons, had fled here, and had told him, in concepts and images more than words, how to track him, and how to kill him. He had thought himself invulnerable, with his shielding up, until the murderer had used his metal flying tube to wound him. He had never before known such pain; Mother had scoured the land as best She could, eradicating the pesky Thinking Enemies when She found them, and he had never been in a fight where his shields had gone down. The pain had enraged him, enabled him to throw the Metal Tube to the ground, and the murderous mite who had killed his fellow Dragons and so many of Mothers Children had escaped before the Tube had been thrown. He'd enjoy squishing the mite underfoot....when it had stabbed him in the foot, a unarmored part of a Dragon, then almost been shot in the eyes, and had been forced to deal with the pesky Centaurs as they had appeared. Mother had long tried to eradiate this bunch, to no avail, and their shots he could ignore, to a degree, as he found that his scaling had cracked in places. The pain was enough he almost didn't feel the mite jumping on his tail, so he had absently flicked it. Then again, as the mild pain worked its way up his back. Long buried memories of Mother telling him never to allow a enemy close enough to grab on surfaced, and he tried to shake the creature off, even so far as to beat his mangled wings. nothing would shake it off. then that white furred one had shot him...

And Mothers comforting presence had vanished in a white hot burst of agony. He had thought what he had felt before was painful- this took the cake. the pain wasn't the thing that angered him the most, made him chase the white one- it was the loss of Mothers presence. He snapped again, then felt Mothers presence return, just as he noticed the foreign object that had somehow gotten stuck to his muzzle.

He blacked out a moment, falling, as the shock literally shook his brain. Dragons had thick skulls, but shockwaves still propogated through them, as he found when he woke a few seconds later, and shook his head. He was so confused; pain, dizzyness ( something he had never experienced before, and thus had no defense against) Mothers presence....it all made so little sense. Then the blinding, agonizing pain from its shoulder came.

Lasten finally reached the weak spot, and jammed his sword into it, then adjusted the sword with a quick thought, retracting the barbs so he would not stick, then threw his entire wieght onto the blade. Slowly at first, he began to slid down, his sword opening a massive gash, then faster, until he jumped off and rolled away from the agonized titan, and looked up.

The Dragon screamed, then, and Mother shared his pain as she knew another of her Children, one of her Chosen, was going to die. He reared up as his blood gushed out the hole the mite had carved in his side, and wailed in agony. He came down, hard, and the all the tendons for his left foreleg....snapped. He fell, nose first, to the ground. Mother had designed her Children, her Chosen, well, but she had had to accept several flaws with he Chosen to keep the basic design sound. The includance of shielding had negated being able to put acid into some, or shields into the one ProtoDragon she had created with the Outsider cloak. Or, as with all Her Dragons, a inability to do more than stand with only three legs; with one out, they were as good as dead, for they could not fight or run away. they could still fly...if their wings were not shredded, as this one's were.

Lasten ran towards the collapsed, thrashing Dragon as it frantically tried to crawl away, to fight back, to take more of its enemies with it, anything, maoning in agony from the massive wound in its side. it kept slipping and falling in the blood soaked mud beneath it, and Lasten primed the grenade he had found scattered outside his Gate-ship. The Dragons bulk loomed above him as he lept onto its useless and crippled limb, and used it as a board to jump onto it head. He slammed the grenade down onto a scale, it adheared, and he made to jump away when the Dragon tosssed its head back, throwing him against its backwards facing horns, knocking the wind from him. He found, then, that he was stuck, for they seemed to act like magnets, and he stuck on. he boosted power to his own shields, and hoped they remained strong enough to survive the grenade.

Laz gasped as a golden explosion engulfed the Dragons head, and the Lantean who had brought it down. The Dragon gurgled, and went limp, the blast knocking it completly out; a mercy, for the blast mangled one of its eyes, and tore away most of the scales and flesh on its head. Laz didn't have time to admire this, for he ran towards the massive, and dying, creature. He looked all around the shuddering, gory, brightly colored beast, and found no Lantean body. A hand on his shoulder made him spin around.

"Twice now you've saved my life...I will not forget this."
"uhhh...no problem, I Guess"
The Lantean looked like hell; his suit was covered in maroon and charring from the grenade, but he still walked proud and tall. Behind Laz, the Dragon keened, and Laz almost felt sorry for it, for his kind knew well the despair one felt when one was cast down in their glory, to die, alone. Then he shook it off, and waved a paw at the Lantean.
"Going to give that thing the Final Grace?"
"After what it and its kind have done to mine, I should let it die in agony. But it has no control over its actions, no free will. what kind of Lantean would I be if I allowed a enslaved creature to die in pain, as a result if my actions?"

Lasten stepped over to the dying Dragon, and spent a moment to look it over. It really was beautiful, a true masterpiece of design , aesthetics and a testiment to its creators skill at Genetic Engineering. Lasten could see Lanteans creating creatures like this, fully sentient, for the sheer joy of creating thinking, breathing beings to talk to. The beauty of it was tarnished by what its creator and controller had created it to be; a instrument of war, nothing more. He stepped over to its head, and it looked at him with its intact eye, and paused; it no longer blazed with the insanity of a Erinyes. he couldn't be sure, but it looked almost... at peace. He raised his sword, and plunged it downwards.

The pain was fading now, as his blood gushed from his wounds. He was in shock, and something more- Mother was there with him, a comforting, gentle presence, stronger than he'd ever felt Her before. She comforted him, took the pain and the rage and the insanity away, as he watched the mite who had killed all of Mothers Chosen Children raised his blade above his clear, yellow eye.

- Do not be afraid, Child-
- I am not, Mother.-
-Then sleep, my Chosen, sleep forevermore-

The blade descended so slowly, so slowly, as it pierced his eye, and entered his brain. A last explosion of pain- then he knew nothing anymore.

Lasten twisted the blade, as the Dragon convulsed anew. this was spasmatic, uncontrolled though, unlike before, and he pulled the blade out, stepping back as it thrashed. He was about to shove a grenade into the bloody hole where its eye had been when it slowed, and knew it was already dead- these were its death throes. The Dragon shuddered a few more times, then it lay limp, still, a rattling gasp escaping its jaws. He didn't need a scanner to know- it was dead. He felt a surge of pride, then pain came from his back, and he reached a glove over his shoulder, and pulled it back. Crimson mixed with maroon met his eyes, and he staggered as his adrenaline began to slow. He had been injured, somehow, by the blast of the grenade, or being thrown against the Dragons horns- he didn't know. He collapsed to his knees, and then his face, as he heard people shouting. Then the loss of blood kicked in, and he fell unconcious

Laz roared in victory as the massive Dragon breathed its last, and looked at the Lantean who had killed it- only to see him fall.
Laz ran over to him, and rolled the Ancient over, then gasped- the mans back was inbedded with scalpel sharp scale shards.
He needed a medic, fast- some of the blood bubbled, meaing that several shards had gone deep enough to either knick or puncture a lung, he couldn't be sure. all he knew was, the Lantean who'd probably saved all their lives would die, if he didn't get help fast.

Logan slowly lowered the aim of his blaster when the heads stopped rolling, he examined in awe of what was left of the Dragon that layed dead meat. But what was strange was that they were actually helped....by Centaurs?
He didn't think twice thank to aim his blaster at the freakishly cyborg creatures.
"Woah woah...who are they? More enemies?"

(dismiss, for now...mind if I have it so that the Erinyes need time to rebuild after their losses?)

"Anyone a medic, here?!"

laz looked around, his eye catching the rather battered but wtill mostly intact PuddleJumper, and lowered the Lantean, then went over to the ship. The back hatch refused to open- jammed, no doubt, as the hull was warped. He climbed into the ship through the missing viewport, then looked around the cockpit.

the interior was a mess- sparks came from a damaged console, and more than a few panels lay thrown open, their contents littering the floor. He looked, didn't see anything that looked like any sort of medkit, and rammed his shoulder into the cockpit door as it didn't open either. He forced talons into the slight gap between door and frame, and pulled it open enough that he could get inside.

The cargo bay wasn't as cluttered- most of the cargo had been securly tied down beforehand. He almost jumped out of his fur as a paw caught on a jellyfish shaped object rolling on the floor-a Drone. Luckily they were powered down...otherwise he might have blown himself to hell. He bent down to open a crate when something chirped and moved in the darkened bay.

Moving slowly, he pulled a light from his belt- then snapped it up and drew a sidearm as the noise came cloer. The white circle fell upon a legged sphere, and he relaxed- Latean repair robot. The bot had been woken by his presence. He ignored it, until it abruptly scuttled toward him- then past him, and went to the jammed exit hatch. the 'bot chirped a few times as it examined the damage, then extended little arms into the circuitry and went to work. A few seconds later, the hatch groaned open, and he could finally see the cargo bay clearly.

- Treasure trove of Tech.....-

He ignored the crate of guns and dug amongst a crate marked with the Lantean symbols for 'Health', and eventually unearthed a large white and red box. He opned it up- a Handscanner, a Holoimager, and a lot of surgical tools and instruments. Bingo.

The 'bot chirped as he pushed past it, knocking it into the wall and cauing it to improperly place a crystal in its slot. The 'bot swivled to 'keep him in it optic view for a second, then it turned back to the panel it was busy with and fixed the crystal it had put in wrong.

The Lanteans, if he recalled correctly, had conquered disease ( nothing except some really exotic viruses made them ill), so antisepetic wasnt a issue... and they had enhanced healing, so as long as he pulled the shards out without severing a artery......

It took him some time to figure out how to use the tools, but he eventually teased the last scarlet scale shard out and tossed it away.He closed the wound with one of the tools, then picked the man up. He was lighter than he expected....

The Chiroptera had a small cabin area, so he laid the man down on a bunk and left.

- Now...what do we do now?-
He wondered, laying wearily against the Chiro's wing and looking at the monstrous corpse of the Dragon.

-Now....now we do some...Research....-
- Kest'ak'ain....were have you been?-
- Away. Looking over the Lantean Battlecruiser that crash landed about twenty four klicks away around five thousand years ago....were the Lantean hero was in stasis. Oh, and I was the one who woke him from stasis, thank you very much.-

Laz rolled his eyes at the NanoAI's words, but he could feel that Kest'ak'ain was, for once, telling the truth.

- Interesting enemy you just helped to kill off.... And you kept some of them alive too, good.... Commandants going to be happy when he gets his hands on them, or tissue samples of them, either one'll work for him....shouldn't you be out and checking to see they haven't crawled away?-
- Stuff it. I just did some rather taxing surgery, killed god knows how many of those things, and you want me to keep going -
- Yes. Oh, and get some trophies off them too, while you're at it. See if you can at least get a talon or something from the Dragon too.... same with the Tank thingies...-
- jeezus.... getting a little packratish, are we?-
- No.... getting tired of not having momento's of our adventures.... now...Chop Chop! better get to work while that bloods still wet... god alone knows I hate having my host with bloodstains in his fur....-

- Is that concern? didn't know you cared...-
He jested, stepping over to a mangled Fury, and looking it over, before moving onto the next. He knelt besides a intact one, and rolled it over, wondering how the Erinyes had died when he noticed it was still warm, then started when he felt a pulse.
- Ooooo...Live one! Get'em back to the Chiro, dear boy...

Laz quickly bound its feet together, then slid his paws under the creature. the thing was heavy.... had to weight at least a hundred fifty kilos, if not more.

Three times he brought back a living, bound Fury, and four times a dead, intact one, before Kest'ak'ain grudingly told him to stop. He noticed his host was on the verge of exhaustion, and took a moment to trigger Laz's pharmacope, dispensing a burst of stimulants into his bloodstream.

- thank you.-
- Don't mention it. Ever.-
- What now? We've got three live ones, and several dead to examine and get 'trophies off of...now what? the Tanks?-
Hmmmm... save them for later. Dragon. see what you can get off the Dragon. I'm especially interested in a closer look at the talons.... they tore through Lantean hull material like it was paper.-

He went over to the massivebody, and let Kest'ak'ain take momentary control of his body to look over the massive creature. He felt the NanoAI's equivalent of a whistle of awe, and he had to agree- killing this thing with heavy weapons would have been a noteworthy feat.

- And the Lantean brought it down and killed it with a sword.... seems almost like a fantasy tale, yet here the evidence lies in front of us.... interesting..... the forepaws are more akin to hands than paws...-

The AI felt silent as he pondered the take from his host. Laz took advantage of the momentary reprieve to bend down and touch one of the massive talons on the forepaws. It was cold, very cold, and he tapped it with one of his own talons. It clicked as if off of metal, and he pulled out a scanner and ran it over the talon, then nodded as it confirmed what he had suspected- a high concentration of various metals and a organic blend of keratine and bone, only a hundred times more dense that even his own.

- the creator of this thing knew what it was doing....-
- Indeed. the material is so dense, its strong, easily as strong as high grade titanium from what I can see....check the hind paws, I want to see if theres any difference in the composition... plus these talons are a little too...big, I think, to be suitable trophies.-

- Make up your mind....-

Nevertheless, he bent down to check the hind paws, and immedialtly his eyes were drawn to the wicked, slender dewlaws on its heels. He ran a hand along the slender, wicked curve of one, then pulled his knife.
- interesting.
- What is?-
- The dewclaws are even tougher than the rest of the talons.... plus... run the edge of the knife along the inside curve, I wan to see if I'm reading the data right-

Laz did so, and he whistled as the gleaming, ebony shaft cut deeply into the titanium blade.
- Definatly get these off as trophies....the edges are only a few molecules wide.-
- Monomolecular edged? I have a idea... use them as swords, as is.-

He could feel Kest'ak'ain's surprise at the idea, then a mental nod as the NanoAI agreed with him. He turned the knife over, and made the first, careful cut. Luckily, he'd done this sort of thing before, so he knew what to do, but he had to go slowly to avoid slipping and cutting himself on the unbelievably sharp edges- the talon would cut through his hand without any hesitation at all. Eventually, he'd peeled away enough of the dcales and muscle to get at the connective tissues. a few cuts later...

- this thing is beautiful.-
He held onto the end of the gently tapering talon, and made a gentle swing with it. He turned it over and admired the way light seemed to slink off its edges, before going after the second one. This one was faster, as he knew what to do, and soon the glistening, ebony pair lay swaddled in a soft fabric he had taken from his equipment case, and tucked them under his arm as he made his way back to the Chiro.

- Good job.-
- Thanks... need to put some sort of guard on it so I don't cut my hand off while using it, and a hilt of some sort....-
- worry about that later. You're just about to collapse. Rather not have you do that with those things tucked under your arm. Go, take a bench, rest, I'll wake you if you're needed.-

- Sounds like a plan...-

Laz placed the talons on a conveniant crate, and lay down on on of the benshes in the cargo bay. He settled his head to the hard alloy surface, and was asleep almost instantly, courtesy of Kest'ak'ain and a small dose of sedative.
