Kimiko frowned, that Nakamura again. She was really starting to dislike that woman, even if she had promised herself she would give her a fair chance. "Argh, I suppose Maboroshi has had nothing but good things to say about her?"
Mokutan shook his head. "Well, actually, he said that she was rash, and overly passionate without thinking, as shown by her first attack on Oto, but was also clearly strong, and willing to listen to reason. So I GUESS you could say that's nothing but good, he said that she reminded him of you."
Kimiko turned red. "Y-you're not serious!" She accused.
"Hm? Why? Do I sound like I'm joking? That's what the boss told me." Mokutan reached up a talon to scratch at the back of his head. "Boss seems to have mighty high opinion of her though, I'll give you that. Truth be told though, it's only because she's the most powerful Ninja he's ever encountered."

Kimiko looked suddenly surprised, her rival slipping out of her thoughts at once "Wait what? What about Kasuke?"
Mokutan shook his head. "Nah, Boss said that Nakamura was stronger. He didn't know for sure, but we did some asking around about the fighting, and we're sure now. She was about to finish Kasuke off when the messenger you guys sent reached the battle feild and stopped the fighting, and she had been facing him and all of Oto at that point."
Kimiko looked suddenly struck, her eyes widening. "What?! Are you...is that really true?!" she looked back towards the tree trunk, her face thoughtful. "Maboroshi...he wasn't afraid at all...he really trusted her when she returned to the village...that must've been why."
"Huh?"

Kimiko was looking suddenly pensive. "I couldn't figure it out, why Maboroshi was so certain, so confident...but the reason he was able to trust her wasn't just his judge of character...though I guess maybe that was part of it." Mokutan was listening curiously now. "It was because if she really wanted to kill us, she could have already." Kimiko started climbing again, silent now for a time. Someone who was stronger then Lord Kasuke? She didn't know if she really believed it...but... it made sense. For all his faults, Xenon Maboroshi rarely made rash decisions, even this recent heading into the maze, wasn't entirely rash, he'd probably entered well prepared. No this made a lot of sense...but that just made it all the worse. Kimiko had previously though Lord Kasuke Unbeatable...but now...

She climbed all the faster now. She had to get stronger...she had to get stronger quickly. Oto needed more heroes, it needed more people who would stand up and help Kasuke defend it... Oto was in the middle of a Shinobi decline right now, but if their were people stronger then Kasuke out there then...then she needed to hurry and get strong like him, maybe even Stronger then him, so she could help protect her home. If that was what it took, then she would do it. If no one else tried...then it would have to be her...
She frowned. No one else? She knew that was wrong. There were two other people who would be right there with her, no matter how strong she became, she suspected that they would always catch up... if she was able to surpass them at all. She smiled though. Fine then...she and her team would become the heroes that Oto needed, if that was what it took...then that was what they would do... Besides, she doubted that anyone would be able to stop them from getting strong even if they weren't needed.

Kimiko began to put forth her full effort once more, climbing towards the top of the gargantuan tree with the weights once more testing her muscles. "Any way...you wanted to know why Kasuke was so strong?"
"Well yeah, I mean, what's that guys story anyway?"
Kimiko gave the slightest hint of a shrug as she pulled herself up a tad further. "Well, I don't know too much, but apparently Lord Kasuke was chosen for his talent after the former Kage went missing."
Mokutan tilted his head. "Missing? Wasn't she an Uchiha or something?"
"That's right." Kimiko confirmed "Lord Kasuke replaced her and took over, but before that he was apparently a genius from one of the clans in the outer borders of our country."

"The Outer Borders huh?" Mokutan seemed to be trying to recall something. "Now I think about it, yeah, I think the bosses old village was on the outer border, okay, I getcha, but so then he was just a regular genius? Is that all there is to the story? Kimi-tan, people don't get that strong just cause they got a little talent, trust me. Talents a good thing to start with, and you and the boss got plenty of it, but trust me...if this Kasuke guy is as strong as wind feels around him, then there's more to the story."
Kimiko looked thoughtful "Huh...I never really thought about it...but I guess your right."

Kimiko thought a few moments. "Well, he is from the Okazai clan, I don't really know much about them, but from what I get, Kasuke's really good at wind Jutsu. "Really though, I don't know much more than that...I guess we'd have to ask someone who knew more about it..."
Mokutan ruffled his feathers pensively. "Hmm, I guess I'm not all that surprised. Clan's that are powerful nowadays keep their secrets close. With the Uchiha on decline, well, I can't say I'm all that surprised that the boss got accepted into Oto as a ward as quickly as he did." he looked at Kimiko "You know I never thought about it, but you and the boss and chicken hawk all got are from clans aren'tcha? They really musta been stacking the odds when they put you all in the same batch."

"Ya know what I mean," Mokutan assessed "You guys are all really skilled ninja already, and your not supposed to be but fresh Genin out of the academy. As a team you got about what, 3 missions under belt? yet you guys could probably take on a regular Jounin...and kill him. Dash may have been holding back today, but if you got the drop on him, it might not have made much of a difference if he weren't. Imagine what it would be like if you three fought against other Fresh Genin like you...what do you think would happen?"

Kimiko didn't even want to think Maboroshi and Raine would do to fresh Genin, even the ones who graduated a year ahead of them. They'd annihilate them. She didn't even want to think what would happen if they fought their old Chuunin instructors from the academy... it'd be a near massacre...
Kimiko got his point. "I guess I see what you mean but...don't you think that's a good thing?"
"Sure, sure," Mokutan insisted "But what I'm saying is that these guys have got to have some kind of motive behind that. Normally they divide the tough guys up right? Strength to all, but they put all their chips on one hand with you guys...that can't have been an accident."

Kimiko was wide eyed for a moment, before she realized that Maboroshi had actually mentioned this to her before. He'd remarked on how odd it was that the three of them, clearly the most talented Genin among the graduates, had all been placed on the same team, he hadn't gone so far as to point out that there might be an ulterior motive, but now Kimiko thought about it, he'd been hinting at it.
What could it be though? Kimiko frowned slightly as she turned the thought over in her head. "Well, they probably want us to just be great team...isn't that enough of a reason?"
Mokutan chuckled "Well, Maybe Kimi-tan, but lemme tell ya from experience that it's rarely just that easy. There are people out there far and away more sneaky than you or I."

KImiko raised an eyebrow as she continued to climb the tree, her eyes side along at the black bird. "Well then why would you do it? Put us all together I mean?"
Mokutan ruffled his feathers again, cocking his head he considered it. "Dunno...maybe..." he paused "Well, it just might be that the old boys in charge are getting a bit desperate for some pr." Kimiko blinked quizacally. "Lemme explain." he raised his wing "Oto's not going through great times right?" Kimiko nodded. "Well, people outside the village know that...and that's kind of a dangerous thing for a ninja village like this." he jumped up to the next branch as Kimiko continued to climb. "A bunch of mediocre teams aren't gonna really change that, but one exceptional team, one that can be great enough to make a name for itself...well now... that could do something."

"So you think that maybe they're expecting a lot from us." Kimiko confirmed with a slightly thoughtful tone. She could deal with that, she'd just decided that she was going to become just that, whether the village wanted it or not, so if the people who formed their team had wanted that, then they would get they're wish.
"Yeah, that'd be my guess, but then again, I suppose it could be something a bit more sinister."
"Like what?" Kimiko inquired.
Mokutan shrugged his feathered shoulders. "Well, they could always be trying to trying to build up troop strength with the intent for war."
Kimiko frowned suddenly "What? What do you mean?! Kasuke would never want war!"
Mokutan shook his feathers slightly. "Well, maybe so, but looking at it just from the perspective of Oto's bosses, war sometimes serves to get people up and adam. Ya know, bolster economy and Ninja training through conflict. Happens all the time through human history.

"And before you yell at me for that, it was just a joke." Kimiko calmed down but sent him a small glare. "Heh, man I like you Kimi-tan, your pretty fun when you ain't spitting fire at people."

Kimiko sighed, unable to be mad at him after voicing that "When have I ever spit fire at you?" She didn't seem like it, but she was the type to keep track of things like that, and she was fairly certain that she hadn't tried to barbecue Mokutan just yet.
Mokutan chuckled "Well, you tried with the boss, and that's just as bad really."
Kimiko sent him an exasperated glare. "We were sparing...and he had ME full of senbon and shaking head to toe from those illusions." She still didn't like the memory of them...they'd struck so quickly...and they had felt so real... they'd felt so...impenetrable...
Mokutan chuckled "Hey, hey, I was just jokin again, really Kimi-tan for someone with such a nice laugh you should get a better sense of humor."

Kimiko stared climbing again as she inquired "That...was another joke right?" Mokutan started laughing, while she herself caught herself smiling. She supposed Maboroshi's bird wasn't really so bad after all... he just seemed to have an odd sense of humor, just like Maboroshi come to that. No wonder they got along so well.
"Ah man Kimi-tan, you're hilarious. We should hang out more often." he turned his head the other way. "Huh...I wonder how the boss is doin...he's been at it for a while now." he checked the still bright sun. "Eh, he said to not expect him back until morning, so I guess I won't really get too bothered."
Kimiko turned to a look of curiosity. "So, this maze he went into, where is it? I've never heard of it."
