naming is kind of wierd.
What I know is thus: Usually companies and squadrons are numbered chronologically. Like, the Fighting First in langley was designated the "first" squadron created, by definition. It's not necessarily the best.
However, inside said squadron, you'll have three flights, of four ships each. Alpha, beta, and gamma are by skill level, 99% of the time.
In the army though, I'm not sure if that's the same method or not.

Well in this case, it's a single platoon, which normally consists of 3-4 squads, and each squad is typically 8-12 people, totalling an estimate of 50 if they're all above 10.
I was thinking as a gag they'd all have really sexy/girly names, but it was just ridiculous.

Short History: Proud and overbearing, Dagon was born on Odryn to his tribe's chieftain. He became a great, almost legendary warrior, for his victory in dozens of honor duels, bare fisted or blades, and unshaken stature on the battleground. Even going as far as besting his own father for leadership of the tribe. He ruled and expanded this tribe for almost three decades, taking over 12 other tribes under him.
It wasn't until one day, that a warrior boastful edged him into a fight that Dagon was sure he could win, only to have his face shoved into the dirt with shame. The warrior refusing to kill him, Dagon chose to exiled himself, leaving Odryn and his clan behind.
From there, he became a merc, hiring out his sword to the highest bidder. Under demand, some days he may be a simple bodyguard, others he may be helping stage a revolution. He even became the personal thug of Jabba Desilijic Tiure for a time. Some years later he put together his own company, Dra Pnu'gah C'funt, meaning "The Broken Sword".
For nearly 60 years, this mercenary company, eventually building into a small army, hired out to private investors, most particularly the Hutts and later, the Separatist during the Clone Wars. Though, battle after battle, members were lost, until finally, at the Second Battle of Jabiim, every member excluding himself, were lost. With him and the battle lost, Dagon fled and hid.
For close to 14 years he operated as a bounty hunter, until enlisting in the Imperial Army, mostly for the reason the life of a bounty hunter never compared to that of a professional soldier, and it was getting hard to be a legit merc with the Empire around, so why not join it. With no shortage of credits to buy himself a new, shiny identity, obscuring his participation with the Separatist during the war, instead he was a hero, thanked by the Republic for helping fight off Jabiimi Nationalists.
He was accepted into the ranks of the Stormtrooper Corps, shipped out to the roughest areas of the Outer Rim like other aliens among the ranks. Rising in the ranks steadily, Major Reaver he came to be known as, put together his Jackal Battalion. a rowdy group of battle hardened soldiers, mostly aliens out of Outer Rim garrisons like himself, known for their unorthodox methods and strong hand tactics, as well as the highly personalized armor they wore, painted with tribal and honor marks specific to each soldiers heritage or personal tastes. These points eventually had him reprimanded and his battalion along with himself transferred to serve in the Resolve Task Force. There he and his men became close to a similar group, the Rancor Battalion, commanded by a Major Jukas, a Weequay, whom Dagon came to respect, something that usually only came with defeating him in a man-to-man fight.
During the Stormtrooper Corps Mutiny, the two commanders and their battalion took side with the Captain, resulting in a turning tide on the ship, eventually ending with the commanding officers of the Corps dead or arrested, including Major Jukas. Taking control of both battalions, Dagon stepped up to render authority of security on the ship.

Considering the male to female ratio, it's not that unlikely for 50 people out of a few thousand to all be the same species and gender. In fact, I'm thinking of sticking with an all-female platoon as a theme.
Amazon Platoon, just numbered squads for now, but they're the target of constant teasing because while not all female troopers took part in the Miss Galactic Empire contest, that entire platoon did, so everyone else sometimes jokingly calls them the Lingerie Platoon, and the squads Bra, Panty, Heel, and Corset.
The idea behind Amazon Platoon is that it's an all-female fighting force capable to doing their job just as well as any man, so it's supposed to be an example that sexism is BS.
So it's like, you can't help but think they're supposed to be models or something, but when crap goes down, you know they mean business.
And just FYI, the bikinitrooper armor thing isn't their official armor. That was just for the contest. The only reason they'd be wearing it otherwise is because of either personal desire to do so during off duty hours, or because of the de-Imperialization, wearing their bikini suits in place of their issued armors to show their positions aboard the ship.
I like the idea of a half naughty, half professional style of character. On duty, Diana, along with the others, do their jobs like normal, maybe not acting like total hard-asses but they don't slack off. Off duty, Diana isn't afraid to have a little harmless fun, and neither are most of the others, especially considering morale is undoubtedly low at the start of the RP, so they might be trying to raise everyone's spirits by trying to get people to have a good time and all that when they can.

In the army though, I'm not sure if that's the same method or not. Most army units are formed as regiments or battalions. In America the battalion/regiment (which in the American Army is either one and the same or two battalions per regiment) is given a number on formation, usually chronologically. The 502nd, 503rd, 504th, and so on. Companies are assigned letters... so if this is Star Wars it'd be: Aurek, Besh, Cresh, and Dorn. Platoons are assigned numbers and squads are assigned numbers. 2nd Squad, 1st Platoon, Besh Company, 382nd Battalion. I'm tempted to say DA is actually in command of a depleted company, that'd go along with the combat casualties everyone else has taken. Either that or a number of female stormtroopers in other units defected at the opportunity bringing her platoon back up to near full strength.
