((Been a bit busy IRL))

The group entered the outlying sewers of Deephallow, ignoring the rank smell that exuded from the corridors of the winding labyrinth. The area was damp and dark, barely allowing the heroes to see themselves within the dank halls.

Klaudnir whispered a quick incantation to himself, then raised his ax upwards, sending a soft light to shine out above them. The small orb of energy floated a few feet above the group, illuminating the unpleasant scenery.

"Alright lads," the dwarf said at length,"sewer systems by nature are incredibly confusin' an' difficult to maneuver through. Deephallow's ain't no diffr'nt. I'd suggest we keep movin' eastwards until we reach th' main junction. It's an area right below the town square that splits the primary tunnels off inta four different passages. From that junction however, I am certain the Fyrlandtians or Noswaldian forces will likely have a squadron of men positioned guarding the underground area. It may be more prudent at that point to surface, but that be yer call, Delaine."

Delaine nodded to Klaudnir, thanking him for the source of light. "Alright, let's move." The group continued, heading eastward walking on the blocks of the sewers. She tried to stay away from the water, holding her cloak to her face allowing her to breathe. Delaine jumped when she felt a rat scurry across her foot, but continued to move forward. Holding her tome close to her chest she couldn't help but think about Edge. Is he okay? That idiot...getting us into this mess... She pushed rather inconvenient thoughts out of her head and focused on the path before her, prepared for anything that could come their way.

Once everyone was in he laid the grate shut again and followed them in the now illuminated sewer system. He was kind of grossed out and hovered above the ground, but he stayed near them. "Oh... um, when we get close to the crimson palace there are alot of winged guards, I can distract them and lead them away while you guys sneak in..." He stated quietly knowing that if he talked too loud sound would travel through these tunnels really easily. "but about how close are we to the Palace... I know it took a little while to fly there so it will take a longer while to walk there but how close are we?"

The dwarf turned and looked at the boy with disbelief.

"Lad, this be Deephallow, the largest city between the two Empires that is currently disputed by both. We unfortunately dunnae have the ability o' flight that ye do, so I'm tryin' ta lead us along the safest route towards Fyrlandt itself. It'll probably take us about an hour or two ta reach the town plaza, then, dependin' on Delaine's choice o' action, we'll either continue on down 'ere for another day, or spend two days on the surface where we may run into a great deal o' trouble, what with the war going on right beside us. If ye happen ta have a different route that's jest as safe, I'm all ears, lad."

Klaudnir paused for a moment as he nearly tripped over the corpse of a fallen Noswald soldier. The dwarf growled in frustration and quickly hoisted the body that was twice his size upwards then chucked it into the trough behind them, sending a splash of disgusting gutter water over the sides, though none of it actually hit any of the party.

"Blasted, bloody, tree-huggin', flower-pickin' brack-"the aged dwarf just cursed and swore as he continued on, using his ax as a walking stick, much to the enjoyment of the others.

Delaine looked back and couldn't help but smile, but the presence of a corpse of a Noswaldian soldier only proved that, even if there is a chance they could pass both forces through the sewers, they may be trapped here as well. Regarding defense, it would be much safer to be on the surface, out in the town where they could find a way to escape. However, that would only escalate the chance of an unwanted encounter. In any case, Allouette wanted to avoid the war at all costs. "Klaudnir, is there a passage from the town plaza to another sewer gate in which neither of the forces will be tempted to enter? I guess, you could say, the most vile?" Even if it may not be the shortest or most pleasant way, as long as the group will pass without trouble Delaine will walk through fecies and corpses.

Klaudnir did not stop walking as he answered the girl's question.

"There be one of the four passages from the plaza's hub that is not guarded thoroughly. However, I cannot say if it will lead us out o' the sewers or simply lead us on for days. It leads right beneath the Market District, an' from there, I dunnae know where it might go, none bother to go past that point, primarily due to the smell, of course, but there's rumors of some undead takin' up residence there, not jes' a few either. I wouldn't recommend that path, but if it be yer desire, I'll stand by it."

Sora looked down frustrated with himself. "... I am sorry..." He said to Klaudnir. "I don't walk places very much I forget how much longer it takes to walk places..." He said submissively looking at the ground as he hovered over it. "Remember... if things get drastic I can blast our way back to the surface... that could make things harder on us... but being introuble up there is better than being trapped down here...." He stated very quietly.

Delaine continued to walk, deep in thought. "I am thinking about going through such a path. Maybe it will be better to do so. Along with Sora's ability, I can use a spell to protect us." Zhirra's head poked up, looking at Delaine. "Don't be a fool." She said incredulously. "When you use that spell you will be affected with recoil. It uses darkness, which shouldn't be taken so lightly. Anyway, you were thinking of using that against La Vaes. If you use it now, you may break your arm. Or, even worse, lose one." Delaine simply kept looking forward, the cloth still held to her nose. "You fight fire with fire, don't you? I think I will be fine. Undead creatures aren't necessarily that strong unless they are at the top of their power ladder." She replied matter-of-factly. However, the creature was still technically correct, and Allouette couldn't help but doubt making such a move.

"Ah, at last... Deephallow."

The Emperor's vanguard arrived at the city gates in the center of the Noswaldian garrison, drawing shock and awe from the soldiers stationed there.

"Take heart, good men," said Grimwald from atop his mount,"Your emperor has come to the front himself to lead you on into battle. The Fyrlandtian swine will have no chance against our combined might! For Noswald!"

A wild cheer rose up with such volume that could be heard by the Fyrlandtians on the other side of the city.

It had only been a half hour before Emperor Iceheart was preparing the battle plans.

"Alright Stormcruise, are there any questions from your lieutenants?"

"No, sire. All of them understand your plan."

"Good, we will likely run into the heaviest defenses at the Wizard's Tower in the far south of the city. In all likelihood, this is also where their commander will be located. Each squadron will hit their specified locations and after securing the position, leave a handful of men behind to guard the area, then link up with the remaining forces. The final target will be the tower. Our contigency plans are already set up."

The emperor gave a dark smile as he looked to his council.

"What are we waiting for? Let it begin!"

Beneath the city streets, the aged dwarf could feel the rumbling of movement and the sound of explosions.

"It be starting already... Lads, we best hurry, lest we be caught betwixt th' Noswalds an' the Fyrlandt's."

Fuma, a leader of the Fyrlandt warriors, growled as he saw some smoke rise, "Send a messenger to the La Vaes, Deephallow is under attack."

a small winged demon took off toward the Crimson palace at a quick pace.

Fuma looked at his troops, "We will not disappoint the La Vaes, don't let one of those filthy humans past!"

Sei was still reading through the reports of the experiments when a guard came in, "I hope you've got good news this time.."

"My lady, we've narrowed the search and blocked off all escape routes, they'll be caught in no time."

A moment or two later, Edge and Kirak were facing almost twenty guards. "Tch!" It didn't take long for them to get surrounded either. There was no way the could escape from. Edge knew when to stop and it was definitely that moment. He would find another way to escape, not throw his and Kirak's life away. "Damnit..." Edge sheathed his blade and glared at the knights around him.

Kirak glanced at Edge and sheathed his blade as well. "......."

"Huh, thought you could escape from the Crimson Palace...stupid humans.." a large guard shoved both of them to make them walk while two led the way to the chamber Edge opened earlier. "My lady, we've captured them."

Sei turned and looked at Edge "Hm, naughty child...and after how nicely I treated you.."

General Stormcruise led his men valiantly as they stormed into the Market District, shredding through any opposition. The wizards could do little to combat their fighting prowess in close combat. And in a close quarter battlefield such as the market, they met their match.

Meanwhile, in the Town Square, Emperor Iceheart had already destroyed every last pathetic mageling. The terror of an emperor had killed more than a dozen by himself without the aid of even his personal guard. He grinned with sadistic glee as his Iceblade glowed a deep azure hue, consuming the very life essence of his fallen foes.

"Ah, it's been far too long since I was last on the battlefield in person, I have not made such a brilliant decision in ages."

The final front, however, was given with great prudence to the Grand Patriarch Malcidius. The Wizard Tower, the place where the enemy commander surely was located, was an incredibly fortified garrison. Even worse, the only entrance, without the use of some form of flight, was the primary gateway at the end of a long spiraling causeway, making it undeniably simple to defend against traditional tactics.

This was why Malcidius was chosen for this task.

The Patriarch and several of his closest engineers had been preparing for a field test of their newest invention: The SpellJammer™. An ancient mechanism, designed during the darker days when great Beholders, beasts of uncanny magical power traversed the world and wreaked havoc amongst the civilized races. The mechanism was highly sophisticated and incredibly difficult to understand. Malcidius and his men however wished to try their hand. Another fireball soared downwards from the tower, taking five or so men with it.

"Pull the switch! Now!"

One of the massive spells that may have reduced the entire area to ash flew towards their location until a faint silver light enveloped their location and the blast crashed against the spell shield. The spell faded and fizzled out of existence, but the enormous silver shield was expended as well.

"Grr... Get it back up and running! They need a dozen or so mages who have prepared such a spell before they can unleash it again, have it running at full capacity again or if the blast does not kill us, I will slay you myself!"
PostPosted: Thu Jul 23, 2009 8:52 pm

Hearing the sounds of battle above them Delaine broke into a run, encouraging the rest of the group to follow while watching where she was stepping. "Zhirra, I would have to use that spell. Despite how I value my arms, I would rather lose them than contribute to that useless war on the surface..." The creature sighed, "Fine then, suit yourself." Zhirra said before burying her head in Delaine's hood. Allouette slowed down, for a moment, hearing the battle cries above them escalate. A war with no purpose...being built on the blood of others... She thought sadly, but continued to walk.

Soon enough the group approached the area below the town square. Alright... Delaine brought her free hand up, drawing dark red characters in the air. "Kurai Shorai." The ancient letters began to mesh together, forming a dark mass above her. The dark red mass then spiraled down onto the ground, taking the shape of a dog with no shadow. "Klaudnir, which way toward the passage beneath the market square?" Delaine asked, ignoring her bleeding finger and prepared to face the undead.

Sora felt the power of the magic being used above them and shuddered. "Bad things are happening, we need to hurry...." He stated chasing after Delaine... "We need to get away from here, they are using magic that could reduce the entire area to rubble... "

"Um please don't use any more dark magic... leave the magic to me, I promise I won't let anyting happen, Besides I can use magic even dark magic without it hurting me, so please stop, you have a purpose far greater than that to serve... besides edge would be very angry if we let you injure yourself like this." He stated calmly flying with her, even though she was running.
