Serenity giggled and squeezed Gaunt's hand back. "And what about you?" she asked him, smiling brightly and yet perfectly serious. "What would your dream home consist of?"
She knew she could get by on very little, having grown up without things that most other people had, but she also knew that most people did have those other things they grew up with (technology, for one) and she knew that they could sometimes have trouble living without such things.

He shrugs a little as he slowly strokes her fingers with his own. "Mm. I guess it partially depends on how we adopt. I want a place big enough so that all our kids will have spaces of their own. I kinda like the idea of letting each of our kids have a space where they can go to relax, to get away.. if we have two or three to a room we just can't do that." He shrugs and he smiles softly. "And I was thinking we could either turn the basement or the study into your studio. A nice big room where you can mount your works, or keep your unfinished stuff, as well as a room for a few easels."

Serenity flushed brightly, smiling happily, but there was one flaw in his plans that she could see.
"Won't you need the study for your own work?" she reminded him. "As much as I would like to believe that you will be able to be entirely mine when you come home from work, I know that no one is truly work free in the evenings ..."
Even her own father, a librarian, did much of his work at home.

He shrugs and he smiles softly as he glances around himself as he thought. "Mmm. Yeah, having a place where I can work when I need to would be nice. But it seems kinda cruel to me to relegate you to the basement, though."

Serenity giggled. "Then why don't we aim for two floors?" she suggested. "Bedrooms and such upstairs, study and studio and kitchen and such on the main floor, and the basement ... perhaps play room for the children? Or what is it called, a recreation room?"
Ian had been only sort of listening, but he also wanted a say in what their new house was going to look like.
"I want someplace where I can sleep good!" he put in. "A bed just my size and lots of pillows and a nice warm blanket - and don't forget we gotta have lots of food, so that we call can eat enough and so Prince can keep growing, even if I don't!"

Gaunt chuckles softly and he shrugs a little bit, his voice a bit teasing. "But if we have a basement, doesn't that make it three floors?" He laughs a bit and he brings Serenity's knuckles to his lips to kiss. "Mmm. But that sounds like a great idea." He smiles and peers over Serenity to look at Prince and Ian. "Well. My goal, Ian, is to see to everybody's needs first. To make sure we all have warm food in our bellies, and warm places to sleep, and a secure place to live. And that we can all have fun living life, too." He smiles at the little Second.

Ian nodded at Gaunt, obviously pleased with his reply. "You sound just like a dad," he said approvingly. "Prince is lucky to have you for a dad."
Suddenly Serenity realized ... they hadn't told the boys yet that they were going to be married. She blushed faintly, biting her lip anxiously. What if the boys didn't take it well?
"Ian," she said softly, "how would you feel if Gaunt was also your father, as well as Prince's? And if Prince were your brother?"
Ian laughed. "Don't be silly, Mom! How would that work? You adopted me, not Gaunt!"
He grinned up at Prince. "It would be cool, though."

Prince nods and gazes down at Ian, smiling gently. "Yeah. That would be really cool! But how would that work? We're from separate families."
Gaunt nods as and he smiles over at the two. "Well, if Serenity and I got married, then our families would become one under me and her. So I would be Ian's father, Serenity would be Prince's mother, and you two would be brothers."
Prince blinks over at Gaunt and Serenity, then takes a surprised gasp. "I see! So why don't you get married right now? I don't wanna wait!"

Ian blinked at Gaunt and his mom, and broke into a wide grin.
"Yeah!" he exclaimed with Prince. "I think that would be the coolest thing ever! Can you? Please?"
Serenity blushed brightly and laughed, reaching out to pat Ian and Prince on the heads.
"Um ... well, we are going to get married eventually," she assured them, "but it's not something that you can just do ... it takes planning, and careful thought and considerations ... for instance, Gaunt is in school, and has only a small dorm room. He can't leave school until he graduates, but we can't live there with him. There simply isn't space."
Living, she wasn't so concerned about - they could always live at her house on the clan grounds, and obviously she could afford to feed herself and Ian, and Gaunt was doing all right with himself and Prince (granted, once he was finished school things would change), but for the most part that meant that the two of them together would be able to feed all four of them without any troubles.

Prince looked dissapointed when Serenity turned down his wishes. "Oh.. I see."
Gaunt smiles some and he nods slowly. "That's right. Marriage is supposed to be a one-in-a-lifetime thing. So we have to be very thoughtful about what we're going to be doing. Whether or not we're really meant to be together. So being married will have to wait a few months, at least."

"Not to mention," Serenity added, looking at Gaunt anxiously, "I ... I'm not sure if you said you wanted a wedding or not ..."
She knew he thought highly of them, but he hadn't said if he would want one or not. She would go with his decision, whichever way he decided, though she would be perfectly happy without a wedding.

Gaunt smiles softly and he shakes his head. "I am still divided, my dear. I wish I could just jump right into married life with you. And I know my parents would want me to have a wedding because that's just what they do. They want to celebrate with me starting my real life."

Serenity nodded thoughtfully. She didn't know how to answer that one. She didn't know what her own parents would want. True, they had had a large wedding ... but what else could be expected for one of their status? But she didn't think they would make her have a wedding just because they did.
"Perhaps ... we could figure out some happy medium?" she suggested hesitantly. "I ... don't know if I could handle anything big ... certainly nothing as big as my parents' wedding ..."

He nods slowly and he smiles softly. "How about a small wedding? My immediate family with your immediate family. Say, ten from each side to keep it reasonable?" He thought it was okay. Because, depending on the definition of immediate family, there might still be dozens coming out of the woodwork, especially on her side of the family.

Serenity thought about that. "Um ... it might have to be more than ten on my side," she blushed, "since ... I think I have more siblings than that."
She counted in her head. "Twelve siblings ... plus Mama and Papa ..."
And that wasn't counting grandparents or nieces or nephews, or even Ian ...
