Ky's fingers dig into his lap, his gloves hiding his whitening knuckles. "If that is so, then this will erupt into more than just occasional skirmishes with the Paladin's Rod. It will become an all out civil war. I make no claim to understand the reasoning of the divine ones my Lord, but the notion that Lord Gabriel would lower himself to this makes little sense. Why would he risk this while the Beast is ravaging our home?"

Johannes sighs inwardly, his unfocused gaze still staring into the tent wall. He had asked himself the same question, over and over again during the hours it had taken to stabilize Asmyrra. He could only come up with one solution.. and that was the one thing he could not share with Ky.
"Although Gabriel and I were very close at the Order.. I can not assume to know the full measure of his reasoning," he tells Ky softly. How could he explain that the Archangel.. the divine leader of the path they have held so dear.. could have fallen prey to something as petty and undignified as jealousy?
"Any speculation I might have into his rationale would be only that, and I can not voice those aloud until I have a more solid foundation to support it. It is possible that I am wrong, and that the evidence I discovered today can be attributed to another factor.." He didn't want it to be true. He did not want to believe that the man he had dedicated his life to could betray him like this..
Drawing up his courage, he turns to face Ky. "However, if I am right, my very presence here puts you all in terrible danger. Particularly, Asmyrra will be targeted by those involved. Drastic steps must be taken to ensure that I do not become hazardous to this operation, and that Asmyrra's life is not jeodardized simply because she is by my side."
He moves closer now, every step slow and meticulous. She would argue, she would resist, but this must be done. He could think of no other solution. "For these reasons, I have decided that when you separate from base and move to your next mission.. Asmyrra will be accompaning you."

Ky nearly stands to render a salute, but halts halfway up and sits back down. "Understood my Lord. You need not worry while she is under my care. Although I doubt Commander Asmyrra will be particularly pleased with your decision."Ky pauses for a second then decides to bring up another concern of his. "By the by, while I was in the city I came across three women. One was a pale woman in a cloak, she feinted soon after I approached her. The second is a traveler who says she wishes to assist us in our efforts against the beast. The third, an archer who says she comes from a military background, but became disillusioned and opted to seek us out. When I had heard of Commander Asmyrra's injury, I thought it best to keep an eye on all three, so I brought them back here with me. The pale woman is currently undergoing care in the secondary medic tent, the other two are under constant watch by my First Sergeant and his men."

Johannes nods to the new information. Yes, he knows Asmyrra will not be pleased. They have rode together since their defection. But they must convince her.. he must convince her, for her own safety. That will have to come later. He was not looking forward to it.
"I noticed something during the battle earlier, Ky," Johannes tells the young man, the distress hovering over his voice earlier fading slightly. "Today marked the third time I have encountered the Beast personally. As you know, it is difficult to respond to the attacks in time to actually confront the creature. The unholy hordes always seem to be one step ahead of us. The second time I faced the creature, I noticed something was different. I did not think anything of it, attributing the variances to the chaos of the moment. But then today, again, I saw it again. I am starting to wonder if we are going about this the wrong way. If the Beast isn't at all what we think it is. If that is true, it might explain why we have been so unsuccessful up to this point."
He begins to pace along the tent wall, his hands clasped behind his back, his expression grim. "When my brother appeared, it was the first time since I had left the order that I had fought alongside another of my kind. But like our forces here, the Order had only a handful of chances to face the Beast head on, and none of them with more than one of our brothers present at a time. This would be the only intance that I am aware of where two angels attempted to attack the beast head on. We were able to drive the creature away, but the way it happened.. it brought serious doubts into my mind. Doubts on theories we have been depending on to carry us in the past. Surely you noticed the city was not in nearly as bad a state as they usually are?"

Ky nods, "I had, though I had thought it due to your intervention my Lord. If I am understanding what you are saying; the combined power of two or more angels would be the key to ridding ourselves of this scourge?"Ky's eyes show a gleam of hope, "This could mean an end to our struggle! When the angel who assisted you tells them of what transpired, surely they will understand the need to band together."

"It is possible.." Johannes replies gravely, "Or it will simply reenforce their efforts to return me to the Order... by whatever means necessary." He understood Ky's young optimism, but there was also a much harsher truth that had to be considered. "You have to realise that the Order believes the Iron Fist to be part of the problem. Some of them would be more than willing to sacrifice some from our ranks here if they thought they were justified by this line of thinking. They would claim that through death, the defector's sins were absolved and simply write them off as per 'the needs of the many'. This could make my presence here even more dangerous for everyone involved."
He shakes his head, finally settling down again on the bedside, facing Ky. "But that is neither here nor there. I have already made my decision as to how to proceed with this threat from the Order. I'm afraid you all are just going to have to trust me on that one. But that decision is going to keep me from seeking the answers we so desperately need. Why are there dramatic variances at each Beast attack? What is the true source of this scourge? These are things we must discover if we are ever to bring peace to our land again. Which brings me to your mission."
Straightening in his seat, Johannes rests his hands upon his knees. "You must have noticed that there is a rather large collection of troops here right now. Normally I would not allow it, but it will be easier for you to choose a team if you do not have to go searching for people. I need you to assemble a group, preferably small, that will accompany yourself and Asmyrra on your journey. The commander comes from the elven lands. It might be time for us to make contact with them. We have used every resource here that can be found, and it hasn't made a dent in the Beast's sheer capacity for destruction. We need to find the older races, perhaps forge an alliance, and face this foe as one."
"You will have free reign to search through our forces here. Anyone with experience with the elven people, especially those with elven blood, would been a boone to your mission. It is your duty to find them. There are not many here, but you can only take a handful with you on this anyway, so you must choose wisely."

Ky ponders a moment then looks back to Johannes, "It is a coincidence at best, but two of those three women are elven in nature. The traveler full blood, and the archer appears to be half. Perhaps this will grant me an opportunity to look into their individual motives."He stands, ready to rally up his team before the commander awakes. "So that makes Commander Asmyrra, the two elven women, and myself. I have an idea of a few others I'd like to bring with us. Do you have any suggestions my Lord?"

Johannes shakes his head. "It is very fortunate that you came across a few in your travels, because other than the commander I don't think we have anymore of elven blood here. Just remember that your group must be extremely small. I am not sure a few others would be wise. Perhaps one, but anymore than four or five people traveling is going to be easier to spot. Find out what kind of skills these woman can offer and if perhaps they will be enough to compliment yours and Asmyrras. I would like you to assemble a team by morning. I do not want to draw too much attention to our position through sheer numbers."

Ky bows, "By your leave, my Lord. Consider it done." He respectfully backs out of the tent and sets out to find the two young elven maidens he had found earlier. Of the two of them, he questioned the archer more so. Her overly familiar demeanor raised flags with him from the onset. However he would not allow himself to wrongfully accuse someone. He find one of the soldiers from his squad and hails him, "Nickael, have you seen the two elven women we found earlier?"Nikael nods and points with his hand a tent adjacent from them, "They are both on the other side of that tent sir, conversing with each other."Ky waves in appreciation to his soldier and rounds the tent in question. He approaches the two of them with a smile, "Good evening ladies. I do hope you are not uncomfortable in our humble encampment. Oh, I am terribly sorry, did I interrupt your conversation? How very rude of me."

Rikki Tikki Travi Heron shakes his head, "Here's what I'm thinking. If there is a weave distortion placed around it, then it is just a matter of setting the area surrounding the parcel to it's original state. I believe it's not the parcel itself that is smaller, but rather the space it exists in."He nods and takes one of the shrunken parcels, placing it in front of him. He cracks his knuckles then places his hands over it, "I'll give it a shot. If it doesn't work then you can try Nay Nay."He begins chanting, attempting to widen the space around the parcel. As Heron finishes his chant, he can feel the air around the parcel shifting and warping. The countertop beneath the package trembles, the stone slab emiting a faint rumbling noise. Although they can not see the air around it, the parcel seems to be compressing slowly, as if being pushed by outside forces. Suddenly a large crack resounds in the lage kitchen as the stone shudders and snaps, a small crevice veining just beneath the now slightly scrunched package.

At the sound of the stone breaking, Nae Nae lets out a squeak and she hops back a step, her hand instinctively gripping her brother's arm. Her eyes widen at the sight of the small fissure now adorning the counter.
"We killed it.." She murmurs, shocked. Completely forgetting about the package for a moment, she slowly released Heron's arm and leans in close to examine the crack. "Wow..." She whispers in awe. The two of you were never allowed to destroy property before, and she was utterly fascinated with the experience. Then abruptly the thought hits her. We destroyed her counter!!
"Oh no!" She gasps, straightening up with a snap. Her eyes flutter to Aerith. "Will she be very upset?"

Heron's face once again goes pale. When Naelonni grabs his arm a sickly moan escapes his lips. He can almost see his flesh bursting into flames at this point, no amount of water affinity was going to save him from spontaneous combustion. "Aw...oh....hetch..." He gingerly places a finger on the fissure he just created. He had frozen things, flooded his room on accident, even nearly drowned a boy that had been tugging on Naelonni's hair. Never had he destroyed the property of someone who could smite his existence with but a bat of her eyelash. He looks up at Aerith, "I'm dead now aren't I?"

As soon as Heron announced the theories behind his upcoming attempt, Aerith had an idea something like this would happen. When the crack sounds, she doesn't flinch. It takes a little effort to hide the amusement that rises as she watches the reaction spread between the two younglings. However, it was more of an empathetic mirth than anything else. She remembered the many mistakes she had made in the beginning, some of them pretty big. She was therefore, unconcerned. "Not quite dead," she tells Heron calmly. She didn't want to be too reassuring. This exprience would remind him to be more careful in the future. "You will simply have to find a way to repair the damage later." Picking up the package, she examines the slightly scrunched exterior. "Hmm.." she murmurs thoughtfully, trying to remember what was in this particular parcel. "I guess we'll find out soon enough if the contents are still okay."Replacing the object to it's original position, Aerith turns to them. "The magics locking the object into place do not rely upon its surroundings in any fashion," she explains concisely. "Although the theory that the package itself is not smaller is sound, the spell that you used affected the space around the package, not the space the package exists in. This is not like a spell that places an object in a spacial distortion, and methods related to that line of thinking will most likely fail."Stepping aside, Aerith glances to Nay Nay. "Your turn."

She relaxes faintly at Aerith's words, allowing herself to exhale the breath she'd been holding. Secretly she was amazed at the other girl's composure. Nae decides that Aerith must have been doing this for a long time to be so nonchalant about it.
"I guess perhaps we should figure out what kind of spell -is- holding it into place before we try anything else." She tells herself aloud. Stepping closer to the package, she closes her eyes, her lips murmuring the verbal components for a spell that will identify the nature of the enchantment holding the object in its current shape.

As the spell goes off, information floods Naelonni's mind about the spell she is examining. (( PMed )) Aerith turns to Heron. "Unfortunately there is nothing for me to comment on from her turn. But she did use a spell, so now you get another try." Her eyes flicker to Naelonni. "She will have to wait a turn before being able to use the information she now carries."
