If you were in a debate, and someone started calling you names, and bringing up insulting things about you that has nothing to do with the topic...that is considered an Ad Hominem.
For example:
Person A: Creationism isn't Science.
Person B: Yes it is! It includes things that deal with Evolution, and that is science isn't it?
Person A: Creationism also contains things about Faith(such as Faith in a god), and that makes Creationism unscientific. You cannot prove, disprove, or observe a god.
Person B: Well....What do you know? You're a ******** furrie, and your mind is twisted and messed up anyway!
That would be considered an Ad Hominem(the bolded part).

Then she claimed Ad Hominem when I provided her with a Ph.D. source of the theory of the Big Bang. It confused me and the conversation above occured.
