Darek drove the horses as fast as he could. When he cought sight of Katara again, joy and hope filled the dred in his heart. Darek looked at the town the force was small, but well armed. The town had only a small band of armored guards and not much eales than that. His mind was telling him that there was no chance to help them. He noticed again the stench of rotten meat. Darek thought over his options. He could not bare to let anything befall Katara. So he was loath to leave her, but he knew the others might need help getting out and he wanted to help the village as much as he could. Before Darek could speak with Katara, the officer came running up to him.

"Ahh, it is youg Darek. Come to show me how to use a blade again." He let out a small laugh. "I know that you did not come here for this reason, but we need every good hand we can get. Would you lend us yours?"

Darek looked from Katara and back to the officer. He had to help now. "There are four more of my friends here. I need to get back in to make sure they get out safely. I will do all that I can wile I search for them. Do what you can to get every one out of the village. Send them to Tremlp. They will have land to spar for them to sleep on and armed forces to repell what might follow." Darek said and looked at Katara. "Keep her safe!" He said and ran back into the village.

"I will protect her with my life and the life of all my men." He called ofter him. He turned back to Katara. "I will get that fire going for you, but I may need your help directing the villagers out. Stay close to me." He said kindly but stern.

Enzeru ran through the throng of people, going the opposite dirrection, cutting down all of the intruders that she came across. As she came to the corner of one street, she hid behind the shadows of a nearby building. Just around the bend, there were two officers talking about finding someone. As she slid closer to the edge of the building, she was able to catch on to a bit of what they were saying.

"We've found out that Arnold was taken by the armed guard earlier today, something about trying to kill someone."

"That idiot. You tell him to lay low and instead he goes and gets himself in trouble. I don't see why the boss keeps him around."

"You know just as well as I do why the boss keeps him."

"So he killed a young girl a few years back, that's nothing to boast about. She was only seven and didn't even know that she was destined to become a dragoon."

Enzerus heart sank to her stomache. I was the target?....So my parents died because of me. She stepped out from the shadows of the building, her grip on the Ranmyaku tight to the point that her knuckles turned white. The two men saw her and got into a battle ready position.

"Well, looks like we found someone who's worth adding to our ranks." The man let a crooked smile esape his lips as he looked over to his partner.

"You, what is your name? Our boss will want to know." This time it was the second man that spoke, but unlike his friend, his voice was more athoritive.

Enzeru lcould help but let a smile play across her face. "My name...." As she spoke she raised the Ranmyaku over her head. "...is Enzeru Zetsumei, the next shadow dragoon." Before the two had time to react, she lunged at them, decapitating one and greatly injuring the other in one fell swoop. She stood above the one that was still breathing. "I'll let you live, but only so that you can pass this message on to your boss. He doesn't have the advantage that he thinks he has, and the dragoons will soon bring an end to his evil." With that, she took off once again to find any of the others that attacked this place and cut them down to size as well.

As they ran, Kiana saw the bodies of people littering the ground around them. Most of them seemed to be villagers, ut others showed signs of being part of a makeshift army. "Well....I think I found what we're up against."

Katara saw Derak, and hope flooded her, but he was talking to quickly, and she knew he was going. He left the other horses with the officer, who spoke to her. She nodded quickly, picking out a horse quickly. It was a beautiful brown, black, gray and white paint mare. Katara untied the mare from the other horses, mounting it quickly. "I do not need a fire now." She said, remembering her slight bow and arrow lessons from her grandfather. She had a good aim, but how good?

She smiled widely, "If you've heard about me frim derak, you would know I never listen. I'll go get some villagers, and you should attack anyone you can that's trying to hurt me. It's still protection." She said, before grumbling under her breath, "Protection I don't need." She nudged the mare into a trot, then a canter, then a gallop back towards the village, with the man behind her. She spotted a family of four trying to escape a mad man. She charged towards the man, and herded the family towards the gate, "Stay in the bushes where the smoke rises." She orders, drawing the sword the officer gave her. It was heavy, but she bore it well. She dismounted and sliced the mad man quickly, going towards other evils, and driecting villagers. The officer quickly started attacking as well.

Quin dropped from the wall of the gates, avoiding the guards at the gate. He was going to approach Katara but wasn't given the chance when she was already on hourse and returning. Just then, a loose attacker who was not of the village jumped over the wall, apparently following Quin's escape. They must have orders to let none escape alive. He would have to disappoint that commander, for he had no intentions of dieing, not in this small town.
The man landed, sword drawn. He made a quick slash at Quin, and Quin simply jumped with an acrobatic grace onto a crate nearby. Then the man charged a family seeing them closer to escape than a single lone youth. He rushed them, only to find Katara's sword soon sticking in him.
Quin then turned around and followed Katara, as he was told to do from the beginning.

Enzeru saw Katara and Quin running down a nearby street, but they were running in the wrong direction. Taking a right down an ally that was close to her and then a left, she came out running next to Quin. "I thought you guys were supposed to be escaping the town, not running into thr middle of the fight."

"You told me to watch over Katara and get out of town. Katara apparently has different plans than that." Quin shrugged as he threw another knife at someone raising their sword up to strike Katara. The knife hit home, landing in a thigh, crippling the target, if only for a moment. He had armor covering his head and throat, so he couldn't get a kill on that one.

Katara sliced another through the stomach. She spotted Enzeru near the one she didn't know. Why did everyone have to protect her? She was about to talk towards them, but a shadow loomed over her. She turned, seeing a male on a horse. He wore a helmet, but it had slits for seeing. He reached for her, but she held up her sowrd, thrusting it through the eye slits. He fell off the horse, withering in pain. Katara grabbed the horse, and led it over to Enzeru. "Enzeru, mount. Gather any one you can, and kill the ones who dare cross your path." She said, looking towards the other. She didn't know his name, but she took control. "You should find any weapons you can, and a horse for yourself, until we get the horse Derak bought." She said, turning, to find her horse.

Enzeru looked to the horse and then to Katara. "I wont be needing the horse, and I already told Quin to stay with you." She walked over to Katara, her mouth next to her ear. "He's the last of the dragoons, he just doesn't know it yet." Her voice was a low whisper just loud enough for Katara to hear.

Quin looked questionly at the horse. "How does one ride? Remember, commoner here, don't usually ride horses." He grabbed the reins like how he saw some of other people and tried to scramble up, only to fall back down on the ground in a heap, the saddle turned sideways and the horses head being pulled down almost to the ground.

Katara looked towards Quin, with a smile on her face. She held out her hand for a help. "Well, unfortunatly, I'm still commoner." She giggled, "But I'll show you." She said, after helping him up. She readusted the reins. "Like this." she said, putting her left foot into the left stirup, and she gripped the horn of the saddle and pulled herself up. "But this is a pretty tall horse..." She said, her sentance trailing off. She smelled smoke. She turned the horse around quickly, staring at the smoke rising from the center of the village, where the Inn was...

"Enzeru!" She said. She didn't need to give orders, Enzeru was smarter then that. "Quin, you can follow whoever you want. I need to get the villagers on the outside to safty. Either one of you, tell Derak there's going to be a set up of camps about 10 miles from the village on the North side." She said, dismounting the horse. The enemies seemed to have run towards the center. Better for her. She started running, once again, towards the North Gate, but she slowed when seeing Kiana and Gill. She stopped next to them. "Hey. Can you guys try to find wounded?"

Kiana looked behind her to see Katara sitting on a horse. She nodded and then looked to Gill. "Of corse. Where do you want us to bring them?"

Enzeru nodded, she understood Katara's unspoken order. Wasting no time, she quickly turned back in the direction of the Inn. She didn't know where the rest of the dragoons were, and there was a chance that some were still in the Inn, along with countliss civillians.

After a few moments, Quin found himself high in the saddle. It felt odd being up there, and would hinder his knife throwing. Thankfully there was a sword scabbard with a sword still attached to the saddle. He drew the sword and tried to ride near the closest crowd of fleeing people. As he approached, he was shouting, "Flee to the north gate!"

One of the older men in the crowd shouted back, "Why listen to to a thief?!" He spat on the ground in Quin's direction.

"Thief I may be, but when have I injured anyone or wished them harm? Now go." It was too late, a group of solders had approached, but Quin drove his horse between the small crowd and the solder. "Listen to me McQier. Run, I'll cover your retreat. Get your family out of here and we can talk over depts and owes later." He poked uselessly with the heavy sword at the nearest solder, fending them off for a moment. The sword was too heavy for him, but it was better than nothing.
Meanwhile, the horse shied back, away from the solder. It's front hooves flying up, driving the solders back, buying the McQier and his family some more time to get out.

Shortly, they were out of sight, and Quin followed suit, leaving the solders in his dust as he turned and pressed the horse at a fast trot down the road. His area seemed to be clear of people, and with some of the houses burning, he dared not enter them and waste time.
