"Um you know I was wondering do the energy potions work on elves. I mean I know that they help some get their magic back but you know sometimes they don't work," Toraka said.

Rayne looked up at Toraka. "It's probably best not to unless we're in real trouble. We don't want to mess with his magic right now because it could lead to unstable magic manipulation." She sighed. "I once set my teacher on fire because I was getting slightly annoyed with his antics. He spent the rest of the day, running like a flaming cheetah, trying to put the fire out. Magic fire doesn't go out with water, at least not when I summon it..."

Janie heard Zalexis talking about the magic and said innocently, "Uncle Zal? Don't we have the same magic? Couldn't I give you some of mine?" Zalexis looked over sharply at the little girl and shuddered. "I couldn't dream of hurting you like that. You need all of your strength to help Rayne and Toraka and your Aunt Illie." Janie looked frightened for a moment but said, "Okay. If you say so..."

Rayne smiled as she put her hand on Zalexis' shoulder. "Hey, calm down. I don't think it'll be that bad. Besides, making her afraid will make controlling her magic a bit more difficult." She sighed and looked at Janie. "Cute kid. Hate what she's going to go through. I really hope she never has to use that dagger though..." Rayne trailed off and stared at a spot near the trees she had just come from. "I'll be right back. I think I dropped something..." She stood up and walked swiftly over to the previously ashen spot. "Alright. Come out before someone ends up hearing your death cry." A shadow moved. "Hehehe... Still so angry, Rayne?" Rayne frowned slightly. "Idiot. I almost cut you in half a minute ago." The shadow snickered again. "I don't think so. You look nice, playing with the good guys." Rayne spit on the ground. "Tell Rhea that I'm not going back to her stupid little 'ranger' group. I've always been an assassin and I don't plan on turning off my path." Tha shadow sighed. "You hate it though." Rayne grit her teeth and gripped her scythe tightly. "Be aware, Ryzz. I have never cared for Rhea's intentions. Or her plots. Leave what you see and be on your way." Ryzz sighed as he stepped into the light. "My sister and I want you to come back, searching for that pathetic rogue 'master' is a waste of time." Rayne dropped into a fighting stance. "That 'rogue' taught me how to survive. He is still my master, be he missing or not. Tell Rhea to cut off her tongue for all I care!" Rayne didn't rise out of her stance. Ryzz sighed and shook his head. "I miss you, Rayne. Everyone does. Mostly me and Rhea. She wants her sister back, I want my best friend... Even if she doesn't want me in the same way." Rayne hissed through her teeth. "Get the hell out of here, before I make you sorry for ever even looking at me!"

Zalexis sighed and stood up. "Janie, I don't want you to be afraid of magic. Not to use it, at least. If you believe that you can control it, everything will work itself out. I promise." Janie whimpered and said, "O-okay..." Ilisia quietly followed Rayne and hid behind a tree. She heard Rayne yell at Ryzz and jumped out. "Stay away from my friend..." she hissed.

Ryzz growled at Ilisia. "And who are you? You don't have any relation to Rayne, except that you just met her in the woods!" Rayne Slashed at him with her scythe, forcing him to back off. "Leave. Now. I won't ask again." She turned and started walking back toward Zalexis and Janie. She put her hand on Ilisia's shoulder, pulling slightly. "He's no one. Just a bit of forgotten past. Better to leave it." Rayne looked at Ilisia sadly before smiling. "Better teach your daughter how to throw a fireball properly, I sent my master on fire and he ended up running off his stomach." She laughed slightly as she continued toward the rest of the group. Ryzz stared longingly at Rayne, then glared at Ilisia. "I'll be back. Even if she chases me off, I will come back." He slid backwards, morphing into the shadows before leaving, going back the way he had come.

Toraka froze, the wolf was sending her images of what had happened. She also had heard what Rayne said to Illisia. Go Oriana she thought quietly, I know how one's past can sneak up on them. Check out this group and send me update's. She looked at Joirden who was staring at a blank spot in the air. "Be useful for once in your life. go check on the villagers." she said to him. He looked at her blankly before getting up and leaving. He's mad.

Ilisia sighed and walked with Rayne. "I can't bear to see people threatened. It's just... Something that comes with being a healer I gues... I somehow doubt that I'll be able to teach Janie how to throw a fireball as I've never thrown one in my life. I'm defense magic. Zal is offensive, through mental powers only. Janie will be just as unable as we are." Zalexis heard Ilisia and beckoned her. Ilisia ignored him and he turned back to Janie. So I'm worthless now...? Does everything really depend on a 7-year-old girl who has never learned magic?

Rayne said her last sentence quietly so that Janie couldn't hear her. "He's just a past figure, he can't do anything anymore." She looked over at Zalexis and frowned slightly. One's tired, one's out of magic, one's never used it, I can't control it... Magic loves to pull jokes, just like nature... She glanced around before sitting in the dirt.

Ilisia sighed and sat down next to Rayne. She tried to clear all of her thoughts, but completely failed. Why does this have to happen now? Zal is now broken, I'm weak and Janie is unexperienced! We'll never accomplish anything. She got up and began pacing nervously. Zalexis held out his hand to try to stop her, but didn't manage to. She closed her eyes and let out a small whimper. Suddenly, she shrieked, "Why is life so unfair?!", startling Zalexis and Janie.

Rayen jumped as well, not expecting Ilisia to scream in her ear. Rayne had fallen over, clinging to her scythe, before leaping to her feet. She let go of her scythe and grabbed at her elongigated elven ears. "OW!" Her scythe made a hollow metal chime as it struck a rock, almost like a bell. Rayne crouched to pick up her scythe and stop the ringing. "Neee! Don't break! Don't break!" She inspected her scythe and sighed in relief when it seemed stable again. "Whew... Scared the spirit out of me..."

Ilisia apologized profusely and tried very hard to not cry. In the end, she still burst into tears and collapsed on the ground. Zalexis was about to comfort her when he remembered that she was prone to throwing tantrums. He sighed and just ignored Ilisia. He continued to teach Janie as though nothing had happened. Janie looked around with a confused expression on her face. "Uncle Zal, what's Aunt Illie doing?"

Toraka looked at the three beings. They seemed hopeless. She was almost happy she'd never relied on magic. If only they had the help of an elder, someone skilled in the mystic ways then they could just remove the block on her mind. Even young magic could remember the signatures of those around them especially when they were first born. Then again she knew the perfect person to do it. An elderly woman who lived deep within the forest. 'Now to get the parents to agree.' She sat heavily on the ground and conjured a wolf from the shadows. Petting them usually calmed her. 'How do I do it Ferana,' she spoke to the wolf. She just growled lovingly and fell asleep. 'I'm on my own. Oh well'She reached toward Illisia's mind carefully 'Illisia!'.

Rayne rubbed the back of her head when Ilisia started apologizing. "Uh, Hey now... It's ok... My scythe didn't break or anything so nothing's wrong..." She really didn't have much experience in comforting people. Rayne really felt akward when Ilisia just burst into tears and collapsed. She had no idea of what to say. Sighing, Rayne crouched next to Ilisia and started whispering. "Hey, your kid and Bou are watching... I doubt they need to see you in broken spirits... You need to get up and pull yourself together if this is going to work. You need to calm down and show them how strong you can be in a tough spot like this." Rayne was pretty sure her pep talk was going to get her slapped or mangled later. She had that annoying habit of just saying everything straight out and not sparing the feelings of the target of the lecture. "I am a crappy spellcaster. Crappy with a capital 'C'. If you don't get up, We're screwed." Figuring she had said enough, Rayne backed off before Ilisia could wring her neck.

Ilisia jumped inwardly as Toraka reached for her mind. She let down her barriers a small distance, which Zalexis felt and looked at her curiously for. Toraka? What? Zalexis saw Ilisia's expression and lowered his barriers as well. Illie! Yes, Zalexis? What does Toraka want? Wait for her to tell me! Ilisia nodded thoughtlessly to Rayne, "Sure..." and waited for Toraka to reply.
