"And then the magical haystack turned into a very big, very deep hole! The needle was waaaay at the bottom, and was but the tiniest glint of light in a big ol' blackness. 'Whadda you want?' the former magical haystack and now very big, very deep hole grumbled."

"The needle, it must be painful having such a pointy sharp object in you." Skittles said, looking down the deep hole. "I can remove it for you but you have to be smaller. This hole is waaay to deep for me to climb down."

"The hole was quite surprised to hear Skittles' concern - like the tree, no one had ever asked after it's well-being before. So, even though it was a hole and thus the needle wasn't really doing anything to it, it decided to help out the boy, 'Hey sorry, kid,' it said, 'But I can't be any smaller than I am now - but I can turn into a magical pool!' and thus it did, clearly under the impression that such a transformation would help."

"Skittles skitted away from the pool, glazing at the water slightly mistrustfully. It was a magic pool after all who knew what the water could do to him. "Why thank you mister hole,' he said looking for the needle in the water. The pool was not as deep and the water clear so the needle stood out brightly. Taking a breath Skittles placed his foot into the pool.."

"Rocks fall, everyone dies--" Cody said suddenly, quickly, looking at the door with an 'I dare you to ask' sort of expression.

For there stood Arthur, looking quite awful - awful-er than normal, that is - leaning heavily on his cane and giving the scene before him an expression you would've thought to be reserved for the most disgusting of garden infestations. "Nicodemus," he wheezed, "Start behaving."

He felt no need to ask whether the 'unicorn' had been behaving up to this point, as it hadn't been his responsibility until just now. It was just his nature to assume the worst and work from that.

Skittles pouted as the story ended so fast; he had been enjoying telling the tale. Vain wasn't really in that sort of play, roughhousing and physcial sports the demon's forte.

His ears flickered down at the other in the doorway, eyes widening slighlty in shocked fright. The fox backpedal across the bedding and dropped on the otherside with a small yip.

Cody's mouth twisted in thought before he stood, flopped onto the bed such that his head hung off the opposite side and turned to look at Skittles, "I know," he said sagely, "He's green. Wacky, yeah? Don't worry, he doesn't bite--I mean, if he did you'd probably die from three diseases in five seconds flat, but he doesn't so no worries."

Not even bothering to roll his eyes, Arthur remained stoic in the doorway. Alex owed him for this one.

...Come to think of it, Alex owed him for quite a bit. Why did he keep granting favors to the boy? Because he was the only Townie with the remotest bit of interest in thinking. ...He hated answering his own questions.

"That fact refuses to reassure me sir," he said eyes flickering back to the other. He stood and dusted himself off and gave a small bow. "Evening sir," and with that the fox sat down on the bed, head tilted, looking at Arthur. "My name is Skittles, brother calls me Kitten and you are?" He asked voice crisp but polite.

"Enh, I tried," Cody shrugged, sitting up on the bed, hands in back to support him as he watched. What was Petulance doing out and about? Was this what Alex had fluttered off to do? ...Why?

Arthur stared neutrally at Skittles with those dreadful red eyes, emanating disinterest - which was miles better than hostility, yes, but hardly encouraging. "Arthur," he supplied, inclined to be polite if not genteel in return for Skittles' adherence to etiquette. "You're not my concern," he added, the closest he'd get to reassuring the fox.

Skittles bobbed his head. "Should I leave?" He questioned softly. He had an inking that disappearing might be the safest bet around this strange creature. Alex said he was returning soon but instead this red eye..dreadful goosebumping creating red eye rat?..yes was here instead.

"There's no need," Arthur shook his head, aware that the fox was uncomfortable but far from caring. Then, remembering, "Alex is in the library." A side note, from his perspective - the bird hadn't seemed... quite right in the head. He hadn't particularly cared because he'd sensed the charm was still about the boy's neck and he was feeling awful enough with all the recent exposure to fresh air that he hadn't bothered to notice.

Cody's expression was somewhere between frown and pout. Oh. Fine. Petulance was supposed to be keeping an eye on him. Not like the rat could run, he could ditch him if the necessity arose.

"Can I go to the library?" He asked instead wishing to leave right now. He looked at Cody reading the unicorn's expression he did not seem happy about something. The other did not seem sound in limb but some inner sense was screaming touching Arthur was a mistake.

"If you wish," Arthur said, before the 'unicorn' could interrupt.

"Don't leave me!" Cody whined, not entirely serious but - enh. Whatever. Petulance... could be taken care of. It was more frustrating to him that Alex apparently thought he needed a sitter in the first place.

Skittles stood and walked briskly to the door, turning back just slightly towards Cody and shook his head. He blew the other a kiss and slowly walked passed Arthur into the hallway and running his fingers down the wall for support towards the library.

Brat!

There had to be something he could do. To... to... what? Make himself feel better? Mm. He didn't feel exactly 'off' in the first place, it was just... he missed Oliver. It was hard. Whenever they'd been apart after fleeing Hawaii for the first time, it'd been hard. But he'd thought he was over that...

In that vein, Alex had hoped to banish feelings of disquiet by fetching something comforting from the library before heading back to Skittles and, as he hoped after making sure the house guests were comfortable, immediately to bed. He just wasn't that hungry... Thus he searched through the shelves for something familiar, anything to quell unease and revive fond memories. The penny dreadfuls, to put it simply.
