"My wounds clean, that's all I need, I'll let it heal the rest of the way by itself." Jon said, polishing his dirty knives.

Jon shook Robert's hand, the experienced marine's strong grip catching the younger man off guard a bit. "Nice to meet ya!" Jon contemplated "Dunno what my next destination...when it looks like Captain Lee is done talking to that Elite I'll go ask."

Devin had walked off as Jon and Robert conversed
and had begun collecting the marine's weapons. She was able to
hold three shotguns by wrapping her right arm around them and
grabbed onto a lone assault rifle with her free hand. As she trudged
back to the corporal with the guns in hand, she studied the Elites
and how they acted as they were not in combat. She didn't see
them as an alien race, and more like part of the team, despite
the bad feelings the races had towards each other. They stood
at attention, a few with their bulky arms folded across their blue
and red armored chests. The armor they wore was exquisite
and she looked at the shape and design with awe.

Devin would have tripped over a pistol that had been lying on
the ground if she hadn't broken from her deep thoughts in time.
She caught herself and reached down to gather it up in her left
hand, having a bit of trouble, and moved back towards Jon
with the bundle.

"oh, thanks Devin." Jon said, before walking back into the Pelican to grab the ammunition he needed before walking back out and looking at the guns. "well these two are pretty scratched up...oh and this one's out of ammo...oh this shotguns totaled...must've backfired...hmmm...well at least this assault rifle is in good condition..." Jon replaced the totalled shotgun with a new one, polished the scratched one, and then reloaded all of the guns, then shouted to the marines who's Guns Devin had taken "Alright, here ya go! all good as new!."

Robert walked up to devin "do you need any help with your wounds" he asked. feeling kind of reluctant he held out his hand. he wondered if devin was offended by robert's hast to take care of everyone else first.

Devin looked on at the marine, Robert,
just after she had handed a marine his shotgun once it was all
cleaned up. She shook her head a bit and began to check
her own assault rifle.

"Nah. I'm fine. Just a few scratches, that's all." Her
voice had a melancholy tone as she polished over the scratch marks
and scraped away "unmentionables" that the Flood had so kindly
bestowed upon her assault rifle. She wiped over a bit of smudge
and stared down into her reflection on the gun.

Robert stood there, seeing the wounded marines the elits standing nearby. he thought to himself wow did i just become part of all this?" "well at least i'll be able to get rid of this gut renching disgust i have." he looked at the elites at the commander and lastly at the pelicans and phantoms.

Jon understaded Devin probably wanted to fix up her own gun "Here" he said, tossing her an ammo pouch with 5 clips for her MA5C.

Commander Keyes was dead?
The thought struck him as nearly impossible. As a higher-ranking officer and the commander of the all UNSC forces on the Ark, Keyes should never have been in a position to get herself killed. Not only that, but the fact that Lee was hearing this through the Elite's Commander Anso meant that Johnson was somehow unreachable as well. The possibility that the Chief had failed was moot due to the fact that the shield barrier was effectively down and the new Halo ring was rising ominously on the horizon. All in all, the situation was a jumbled mess no matter how he tried to look at it. Just as he was about to ask what had happened with the Forward Unto Dawn, he received an electronic notice from Sergeant Major Johnson.

"To Captain Lee and whoever's left from the 301st and 305th, I leave you the crew of the Dawn...

Also,
Me and the Chief are activating the new ring, so do yourselves a favor and get the hell out of here."

Along the far side of the hangar, a group of two dozen crewmen and marines walked forwards and saluted Lee. The Dawn's patch was visible on each of their shoulders.
The highest-ranking crewman stepped forwards and shouted out: "All crew from the UNSC Forward Unto Dawn reporting, sir!"
Lee looked once more at the Elite Commander awaiting an answer, gave him a short bow, and then gave the small group of survivors a quick salute.
"Did Johnson say how long we had?"
The ranking crewman spoke up again: "All he said was to get the hell out, sir!"

Lee sighed. If everyone from Lord Hood to Johnson was going to put their blind trust in Sierra-117, it had to be for a reason. His mind made, he turned back to Anso for the Elite's answer.
"I believe a meeting with the Shipmaster would be most wise."

The Sangheili commander nodded solemnly. The burden of command was not an easy thing to accept. Yet to pass it on to another without taking responsibility for it was cowardly and without honor. This human had proven his resolve and his worth in taking this unwanted mantle. Anso respected him all the more for it. It was true, their fight was over. The war had been won at long last. But for now there was still work to be done. They needed to return to Earth and to assess the situation between the Sangheili and the Humans. There were still small pockets of Brutes left in the Galaxy, but they would be dealt with in time.

"Follow me."

He did not wait for consent. The Ship Master was waiting, and any moment they spent waiting was one that delayed the Spartan from accomplishing his task. The Parasite was still loose, and he would kill it. The journey to the Command bridge was not long. Though it was more time-consuming than Anso would have preferred. Time has an unfortunate way of slowing down when you are anticipating something important, and speeding up when you are dreading it. When the doors to the Command Center parted, they were bathed in the blue light of a hologram. The Ship Master stood before an image of the Arbiter, whose face wore a look of tired determination.

"We are aboard. Humans, and Elites."

A Zealot stood next to him, he had commanded the Sangheili ground forces during the campaign.

"Will you not come with us, brother?"

The Arbiter paused for a moment before he replied.

"No. This is our fight. And I will see it finished."

There was more chatter between the occupants of the lone Pelican before the line was closed. The Ship Master sighed and turned to the crew.

"Move the Shadow of Intent into the portal. Take us back to Earth."

He then turned to address Anso and Captain Lee.

Robert sighed with relief they would be leaving soon. He still felt disgusted with himself but he was glad to get away or so he hoped. he looked once again at the elites and marine survivors. lost in thought he paced aimlessly around the area.

Jon knew the end was near...this war would be over...but it would live down in history longer than any war that has ever occured, in fact, it's memory would probably never die, even when both the humans and the elites were excinct, the war started by the Covenant would always be remembered...always.

"Well...you never had to fight in this war...lucky you." Jon said to Robert while polishing his MA5C. "I regret I wasn't more useful in this war...but I'm glad I did all I could and am honored to have participated in what will probably be the most infamous thing to ever happen to humanity."

"well i helped our combat troops" he pondered. he wondered all over the area not knowing where he was and not paying atention to him the world around him was black as his thoughts aluminated this voidlike state of mind.
