Jole looked confused.

"That's not really a question," he replied thoughtfully. "What are you on about?"

"Well, I was wondering why you answered her." She said.

Abby froze. Wasn't expecting that one. She thought. Now all she had to do was wait for the right moment to come in. Her plan had to work. It needed to work. Even if everyone liked someone they still had to remain friends. They were all Abby really had left in her small hometown.

Jole didn't understand.

"I answered the question that was asked. I wasn't trying to single anyone out," he answered slightly moodily.

"Do you like Abby?" she asked, looking at him.
Tobi held his breath. Crap.

So it's that obvious?...

No, this isn't right!

"Why are you asking me this, Charlie? We're supposed to be best friends," he replied, a lump in his throat.

Charlie looked at him, surprised. "I can't ask and still be your friend?" She replied, hurt slightly. She regretted asking the question, and nearly took it back.
Tori looked at Jole, mouth twitching downwards. If anyone could manipulate Charlie it was Jole.

((You look really nice in that green btw, Schnoz ^^))

Jole knew where this was going. Charlie was going to change the rules.

"If I was just a friend to you, then you wouldn't have asked," he said, clenching his fists. He looked up. Charlie had that look in her eyes, that same, heart-breaking look...

Don't get mad... DON'T GET MAD...

Jole couldn't contain his emotions. He exploded.

"Charlie, for god's sake! You always make things so personal! I'm not out to hurt you, so stop pretending I am!" he shouted angrily, grabbing both shovels and staring at anything but Charlie. He could feel the red hot rage rise up inside him with every word he spoke. "In fact, this hasn't got anything to do with you at all! How I feel about Abby has nothing to do with you, even if I did like her!" He lifted his head sharply and glared at her, hurt and anger boiling and biting at his chest. He knew exactly what impact the next few words were going to have, but that didn't stop him from locking his eyes onto hers as he said them.

"Why do you always have to spoil it?"

He stood silent for a moment, seeing nothing but a picture of Abby in his mind's eye. She was looking horrified, asking him questions, ignoring his calls, fading out of his life again...

You had no right to ask me that, it's none of your business, if she finds out then...

YOU'RE GOING TO RUIN EVERYTHING!

"Just let it be, Charlie!" he muttered through clenched teeth, turning his back on her and striding angrily back towards the clubhouse. He didn't look back.

((Thankies ^.^ I likes green))
Charlie looked down. "I'm sorry..." she murmured, unsure what else to say. "It just hurt. I guess I do take everything a smidge too personally." She moved to walk past him.
Tobi turned and leaned against the tree trunk, facing away from the two. "Damn."

Abby sighed. "This would be a good time to intervene. Tobi can you please go get Charlie and bring her back here?" She asked. "I'll get Jole." Abby walked into the club house and found Jole clutching both shovels. "All of us need to have a meeting now. But first, I need the shovels."

Tobi went over to Charlie. "Hey, Abby wants to talk."
Charlie looked at him. "I'm going to the Waffle House."
"...Please, just a minute."
"Tobi, could you leave me alone for now?"
Tobi sighed. "Sure."
Charlie ran off to throw rocks at the Waffle House.

Staring at the floor, Jole was breathing heavily. His knuckles bleached a sickly yellow, still grasping the shovels tightly.

She's not sorry, not at all... She wants to spoil it all, wants to ruin my last chance at-

Jole heard somebody come into the clubhouse. He didn't look up.

"All of us need to have a meeting now. But first, I need the shovels."

At the sound of Abby's voice, Jole's anger shrank away. The quiet, hide-away-from-the-world Jole that was left behind when he went to California was making a stark comeback. Jole's eyes began to fill with warm tears as he turned away from her. He wanted to run, run far away from all of them...

"Abby, just leave me alone," he said, dropping the shovels onto the floor. The harsh sound of metal hitting metal crashed through the clubhouse. He strode through the open door and began to run back to the town before anyone could catch him.

Abby shook her head. "Oh no you don't. This is not going to happen." She ran after him but he was too fast. When she got back to the town, she couldn't find him.

Man, can that guy run or what?

Children were running and playing on the sidewalk. Abby tried not to think too much about it. Right now she had to get everyone back together. They had to remain friends. Nothing could tare them apart. She wouldn't allow it. Abby began to call him name. "Jole!" She shouted. She began to ask people if they had seen him but no one. All she wanted to do was talk to everyone. But that seemed far from their minds.

Charlie ran into her house. She sat down beside the computer. She wasn't sure what she was doing, but she was soon logging onto Ebay. She browsed the selection, before seeing something familiar.
Joel of the South's Bracelet
She soon found herself bidding on it. She wasn't sure why she was doing it, all she wanted to do right now was curl up and die, but she was buying a bracelet that cost 10 dollars to make for possibly 100.
