Ice headed into the house, waiting until the sliding glass door was closed behind her. "Silva! Get your scaly red a** out here!" She shouted.
"They screwed up." Silva said, stepping out of the shadows.
"Everyone does at one time or another. And YOU did when you traumatized them!"
"And how do you plan on punishing me? Forbidding me to 'Play' with the bloom?"
"You wish." She said. "I'm appointing you bodyguard. For the rest of your life."
"What the hell?! Of who? the boys?" He asked, almost swallowing his toothpick.
"You know who I'm talking about. You've already saved her life once. You're going to make sure I don't lose any of my feien before their time. Got it?" She pointed at him, her red eyes narrowed. "I'm talking shop visits, bullies, quests, wild animals, ANYTHING."
"Aleric can take care of himself." Silva muttered.
"I don't care." She said, putting her hands on her hips. "You got it? If EITHER of them decides to go on a quest like you did, you're going along!"
"Like hell--"
"If either of them goes through the door--" She stopped as his expression went hard.
"Won't happen."
"It might. You spent most of your juvenile state through that door. What's to keep a little girl from getting curious?"
"The threat of an a** beating."
"It didn't work on you."
"You don't spank as hard as I do." He said. "And Aleric can take care of himself."
Ice shook her head, running a hand through her hair.
"Where is she?" He asked abruptly.
"I left her with Aleric and the boys." Ice replied, looking out the glass door. "And they're building her a sandcastle." She snickered. "Guess she gets to be the princess."
"..."
"And if either one of them gets hurt..." She said, turning back to him. "I'm blaming you. Not Nick, not Nack. Not even Aleric. YOU. Got it?"
"Are you forgetting that I'm one of your feien as well?" He asked dryly.
"I'm not. But both of us know how much tougher you are than most." She replied. She sighed, dropping down in the nearest chair and rubbing her temple. "Nick and Nack were close to tears because of you. I don't know exactly what happened, don't really want to. But don't do it again. They think of you as their hero. Don't blow it."
"I'm no hero."
"You saved Nick's life once."
Silva snorted. "The dumbass has a thing for ledges."
"You saved the bloom."
"Like I said, ledges." He shrugged, leaning back against the chair he was standing next to and chewing on his toothpick.
"You like it. Don't bother to deny it." She replied, crossing her arms over her chest. "Now go surf with the boys. I'm tired of arguing."
"With that bloom--"
"OUT!" She shouted, grabbing a book from the table next to her and throwing it at him. He had the gall to laugh as he dodged it. "Out! Now!" She grabbed another book, weilding it threateningly.
"I'm going, I'm going." He muttered, taking to the air and heading for the door. Ice sighed in relief.

Silva sat in the shade of the house, watching as Nick and Nack took the bloom flower picking. He wasn't about to mention the irony of the scene, even though he was sure that Aleric already realized. There was a little smile on the ancient's face, especially when he dared to glance over at Silva.
Dammit.
Okay, sure, he had planned on keeping an eye on the kid anyways. But now that he had been ordered to... well it irritated the hell out of him. But it also gave him an excuse to stick around. One that wouldn't let any of them claim that it was for the bloom's sake. But seriously, they were in the backyard, during the day, and she wasn't going to be dropping off of anything when she was on solid ground. And the boys were being so careful of how they treated her that it was ridiculous.
Maybe Ice had been right to yell at him, after all. A little laugh escaped him as he remembered the book she had thrown at him. She had taken to wearing the bloom like a necklace durning the morning when she did her writing. But when she needed to work with powertools she told the boys and Aleric to babysit. And then looked pointedly at him.
"Time's up, boys. We've got lifting to do." He called. He was getting sick of the flowers, already. They glanced up, nodding silently as they packed up their things. They were still feeling guilty, he noticed. Maybe he had laid into them a little too hard, after all. "Cheer up, you little shits. She won't be a bloom much longer." He muttered softly as they walked past him. Both glanced up at him hopefully.
"You think?" Nick asked.
"Are you sure?" Nack asked.
"Yeah, I'm sure. I give it a couple of days or so." He lied. He wasn't sure of s**t, but it was a decent guess. "Then you'll be helping move her out of my room."
"But Ice said--"
"You think I can't guard her if she's not in the same room?" Silva asked.
"Of course you can." They said with utter faith in their voices. "But we think it'd be easier if she stayed in our room." Nack added.
"They have a point." Aleric said as he came closer. The bloom was strapped to his chest again with that rope thing he had made. Silva idly wondered if the kid would be attached to the rope even after she turned into a juvie. "There's always the chance that she'll be the type to try and slip out of the house in the middle of the night."
"Like me, you mean." Silva drawled. "She won't be anything like me. I can already tell."
"We won't know that until she's a juvenile." Aleric replied.
"Fine. As soon as you figure that out, she's moving into your room." Silva said as he eyed the bloom. He shoved off of the ground, flying up to the window. "For now we work out." He said. When he landed on the window ledge he turned, startling all of them by taking the bloom away from Aleric and placing it on the window ledge. Nick and Nack gasped.
"Boss--"
"Won't she--"
Silva turned. "Do you have faith in me or not?" He demanded coldly.
"Of course we do, but--"
"Then she's spending this workout on the ledge. Got it?" They nodded silently, their mouths snapping shut as his glare darkened. "Good."
Each assumed their usual place for working out, not even noticing the happy little wiggle the bloom gave as she got comfortable on the window ledge. If the little bloom remembered what had happened the last time... there was no fear to be seen.
Silva would save her, after all.

3:00AM
It was dark. That was her first thought as she squirmed free of the suffocating bloom. It was dark and she heard a strange... snoring sound. She frowned, pushing her hair out of her third eye and trying to see in what little light was available. Night, she guessed. But she sooo wasn't sleepy. She paused to look at her room, sighing happily at the dirt under her feet. It felt good!
Slowly her eyes became adjusted. Sleeping creatures shared the bowl she was in. They were cute! But she was still in a bowl. She crawled towards the side of the bowl, trying to see what was making the snoring sound.
Something blocked the light for a second, making her raise a hand to the side of the glass and peer out blindly. Wings... huge, scary looking wings blocked out the moonlight as a creature dropped down onto the windowsill. The wings flicked once, and something hit the glass in front of her, dripping down slowly. It was... red... Blood?
She scrambled backwards, staring in horror at the blood drenched demon walking past her. He stopped midstep, golden eyes shining eerily in the dark as his head turned. Her heart froze in her chest and she went completely still. He couldn't see her... there was no way he could see her in this dark. She could barely make out his figure.
After a second he turned away again, taking to the air and heading out the door to the hallway. Her heart started again, beating so loudly that she was certain he could hear it from where he was. She lifted one hand, bringing it to her chest as she tried to get her bearings.
She was living in a house... with a demon.
Okay... she could live with that. Maybe. It wasn't as if she had much choice, ri-- She almost screamed as the door opened again, but bit it back. Calm... calm... what was her name? Ruby... Ruby Soho. At least that's what she thought it was.
And she was...
This time she did scream as someone dropped down on the lip of her bowl, peering down at her for a second.
"Um... hello Mister Demon." She said, waving a hand. His wings were even larger than she had thought. And his face... actually, the face wasn't nearly as scary as she had thought. "Did you come to kill me?" She scooted a little further back, bumping into a plush thing as he dropped down in the bowl. He was huge. His head nearly reached the mouth of the bowl. And he still faintly smelled of blood. She gulped as he crouched in front of her.
"Well... s**t." Silva muttered. The little girl's eyes widened. "Of course you would be gorgeous." He said, shaking his head. Soho blinked. At this range she could see how tired he looked. She could take him! Well... maybe... She scooted back a little further, her hand catching onto a string and bringing whatever it was up like a weapon.
"Get--get back demon!" She said. She blinked at the necklace in her hand. "Huh... cute! What's this--" She stopped, flushing as she remembered what she was doing. "I said get back!" She flushed as he actually laughed.
"You're going to threaten me with my own scale." He replied dryly.
"Scale? You've got scales?" She asked, touching the necklace hesitantly before feeling it better. It was smooth and leathery. She rather liked it, actually. So without a thought she slipped it over her head with a little grin. "What do you think? Does it suit me?"
"Weren't you threatening me, darlin?" He drawled, making her look up again.
"Who are you?" She demanded. "And what are you doing in my home?" She almost flinched as he reached out, pushing her hair to the side to look at her third eye.
"My home, darlin. I'm just letting you stay here." He pulled his hand away before she could respond to the gentle gesture. She blinked. "Go to sleep, darlin. It's too damn late for a deep conversation."
"But I'm not tired." She complained. Sure he was a demon... but she was lonely!
"Well I am." He muttered, standing and stretching as much as the bowl would allow. He winced, bringing his right wing around him and examining a cut. He healed it quickly. "Besides, the old man is the one that's going to be raising you."
"Who?" She asked, standing. She only came to his thighs.
"You'll find out tomorrow." He said, taking to the air. She tried to follow, wobbling slightly, then yelping as she started to fall. He grabbed her before she hit the dirt.
"Is he the one snoring?" She asked, wrapping her arms around him to keep from falling. She didn't trust him not to let go.
"No. He's in the other room." Silva replied, trying to tug her off of him. "You're hugging a demon, darlin..."
"Oh?" She asked. "Oh... right." She said. "But I'm still not tired."
He cursed.

When Ice woke the next morning it was to the feeling that something was different. She glanced over at Silva's sleeping form on his stuffed tiger, idly wondering why he had one huge wing wrapped over himself, but dismissing it. Until she noticed the limp looking bloom in the fishbowl and the two boys staring at it in horror.
"She was here!" Nack whispered hoarsely.
"Well she's not now." Nick whispered back. "Did she run away?"
"Maybe Silva scared her by coming home like he does..."
Two and two added together in a very... odd... way, Ice thought, turning to the sleeping feien and gingerly moving his wing so she could look under it. Three big, and sleepy looking red eyes peered back at her. "Hello." Soho said, waving an arm. She was pinned down by Silva's, Ice noticed. "I wouldn't let him go, so he took me to bed with him." She explained.
"Oh really." Ice said, trying to come to terms with just how beautiful their little one was... and how unafraid she seemed to be of Silva.
"And I fell asleep, but I'm okay now! Can you let me go? Mister Demon's arm is too strong for me to move." The little feien went on, squirming in Silva's hold.
"Wake up, 'Mister Demon.'" Ice said, trying not to laugh. Whatever he had planned had only worked out halfway, it seemed.
Aleric came through the window, looking over at the fishbowl, then heading towards the bed, confused at the new energy signature and emotions he was picking up on. Soon all of them were on the bed, looking up at the still sleeping Silva and Soho while Ice tried to move Silva's arm without hurting him. She finally succeeded and Soho slipped away, shaking her feathered wings as she stepped onto Ice's hand.
"Mister Demon came home covered in blood." She said, relishing the story even as she shivered a little. "He came down through the window and stretched his big, scary looking wings and blood went flying everywhere!" She paused, blinking as she realized there were newcomers. "Hi!"
"Hi!"
"Hiya."
"Good morning, Ruby Soho." Aleric said, nodding. "I see you've already met Silva."
She was disappointed that her story wasn't reacted to the way she wanted it to be, but oh well. "His name is Silva?" She asked, looking over at him.
"He's your bondbrother." Aleric told her. "As am I."
"But... you're both waaaaay too old to be my brothers..." She said, shaking her head. "You're old enough to be my parents!" She looked over at Ice, grinning. "And you?"
"Your bond. Ice Queen. It's a pleasure to meet you, Soho." Ice said, holding out her finger to shake. Soho accepted with both hands, shaking wildly. "Did Silva scare you too much?"
"I was terrified!" Soho replied, that easily back into her mood. "So I went still, hoping that he wouldn't see me, you know? But his eyes flashed gold as he turned, like a--like a wild animal! And then he turned and left, so I started breathing again. But he came back! And he was right there at my bowl!" She drew the last part out, like she was telling a horror story.
"Figures." Nack said.
"He never could resist checking out a newcomer." Nick agreed. They waved as Soho glanced over curiously. "I'm Nick, that's Nack, you can go on now."
"Oh, thanks. Well, like I was saying..." She went on, loving the attention she was getting, even though they weren't properly horrified one bit. "He came into my bowl and he crouched down and cursed at me! Of course, then he called me gorgeous... do you think I am?" She preend, ruffling her feathers.
"Oh, very." Ice replied seriously.
"So I reach behind me and grab my only weapon!"
"A rock?"
"There are rocks in there?" Soho asked blankly. "It was really dark, you know, and even if Mister Silva Demon can see in the dark, I can't!" She reached up, pulling the necklace out so they could see it. "I used this!"
As a group they all sweatdropped. She nodded. "Yeah, it didn't work very well."

Ori''s letter Dear Ori, It has been a while since I last saw you. I hope that you are doing well and that this letter finds you in good spirits. I have good news, our latest addition to the family has become a juvenile. I would that you meet her sometime. She''s quite entertaining, as well as fearless, it seems. How have your trainings been coming? I can just imagine you toiling hard with your rapier, honing your skills. I hope that you have found a sparring partner since the last time we met. Learning to fight is always easier when there are more than one. I hope to hear from you, soon. Your friend, Aleric Bert''s letter Dear Bertrand, Greetings and salutations! How are you and dear Ernestine? I''ve written to tell you that Ruby Soho is now a juvenile, like yourself, and she would no doubt love to meet both of you properly soon. I look forward to seeing her make her first friends outside of the family. (And I am positive you three will become quite good friends.) I''m sure you will enjoy meeting her as much as I have, she is quite the little storyteller. (Although my brother will no doubt have something to say about that once he finds out.) I will allow you to pick the time and place, of course. But we will also be having a feien party at our place soon in celebration of her blooming. You will come, will you not? We have two pools and a lot of food! I look forward to hearing from you, and give your darling sibling a hug for me. Your friend, Aleric

Stamina Lacking "A party?" Soho asked, fluttering around the two males happily. She kept having to be carried, since it seemed she had no stamina to speak of, but when she recovered she started flying again. "For me?" The only problem, Silva thought dryly, was they she expected HIM to do the carrying most of the time. Something about the fact that Aleric was more important for answering questions, no doubt. "Yes, you see, our bond is a very important part of the feien society. She helps manage the shop. And because of that she feels the need to get all of the feien interacting." Aleric replied, smiling at how excited Soho was. "In other words, you're an excuse to drive me insane." Silva drawled, rolling his eyes as she started breathing hard again. Sure enough she slowed down and hovered in front of him expectantly. "What?" He asked. "Carry me?" She asked, holding up her arms. "No freakin stamina... whatsoever." He muttered, shaking his head as he picked her up. Trinityblue walked down the streets of Gaia, doing the one thing she hardly ever did. Go shoping. Normally she was at her place, either drawing of tinkering with inventions (or fixing up some eletronic part that was busted). Her track took her past the Fleet building, which was where Ice worked at. Or at least worked at a Feien shop. It was there she spoted someone she knew.. well, sorrta. And one other she was familuar with, but had never met. Icey's Feien. "Silva? Heh, haven't seen you in a while." She said, heading for them. Silva turned, raising an eyebrow slightly. "Hello, darlin. Been a while." He said, smirking slightly at his "Aunt." "Hello! I'm Ruby Soho! And you are?" Soho bubbled, looking up at the humanoid. Aleric nodded, introducing himself as well. "Hi! I'm Trinityblue. Are you al with Icey?" Trin asked, smiling at them. Why was Silva carrying the bubbly one anyway? The girl seemed happy enough, though. "How have you been, Silva? Haven't recked that car, I hope." She added, looking back at the said feien. "Not more than once." He replied dryly, letting Soho go when she wiggled. Soho flew to Trinity, smiling widely. "Do you know our bond?" She asked. Aleric closed his mouth again, seeing as Soho had just asked the same question he was going to. "Ruby Soho is Ice's newest feien." He said calmly. "I am Aleric, another of hers. It is a pleasure to meet you." He said, bowing slightly. "I thought as much." She smiled, holding out her hand for the little feien to land on, if she wanted. "I'm her sister, actually. Er... adopted." She added the last quickly, seeing how she and Ice looked nothing alike. Where her sister was more lizard like, she was more cat like in appearance with her fluffy tail and cat like ears that were more on the side of her head than the top. "It's nice to meet you both. It's about time I get around to seeing you more, huh?" "Stuff happens." Ruby said, landing happily. "We came here to announce a party! It's for me!" "God help us all." Silva added dryly. "Well while you're here you might as well come in. I want to get this over with before someone sees that brat turning me into a packmule." That Trinity had didn't seem to bother him much. Aleric smiled, and pushed the buzzer, opening the door of the fleet building. "It shouldn't take us long, Silva. We just need to put the note on the desk." Trin nodded, following them in while carrying Soho. She nad never been into the Fleet building before. "So they're having a party for you, huh?" She asked, turning to her and letting the boys lead. "It's because I'm gorgeous. Mister Silva Demon said so." Soho replied, preening slightly "Never said it was a good thing, darlin." Silva called over his shoulder. He was searching for signs of life inside. So far he hadn't picked up on any. Which was probably for the best. Aleric turned. "Ice is hoping that a party will help feien relations. She thinks it might be necessary with all of the changes going on." Mister Silva Demon? Trin choked on a laugh, holding it back quickly. "Oh? Really? I'm afried I'm a bit out of the loop on some things..." That was an understatement, really. She's have to bug Ice later to find out what was going on. "Hell, everyone is." Silva replied dryly, opening the door at the top of the stairs. He held it open as he looked into the room, still looking for others. No feien that he could sense so far... humans maybe. But if so they were all in their offices. Aleric flew in, looking around as well. But Soho stayed right where he was. She was comfortable! Trin stepped in, looking around as her tail gave a little curious twitch. "So, lots of new things then, huh? How's Ice been?" She didn't mind carrying Soho around. It wasn't like she was heavy or anything. "You could say that." Silva drawled, heading for the desk. Aleric followed, pulling his staff off and taking the note wrapped around it off. He unrolled it, putting it on the desk. It still wanted to curl, but he figured that was as good as it got. The Note Dear Feien! In celebration of my latest feien and just for the heck of it, I, Ice Queen, am throwing a costume party starting Sept 2nd! Dress up however you want, we don't care, but be sure to have fun! Under the note there was a new map to Ice's place, since the last one had been destroyed with the old shop. Aleric read it once again, glancing over at Silva. Silva? Dressing up? Probably wouldn't happen... "Alright, that's enough." Silva muttered. "Let's get out of here." "I don't want to." Soho said. She turned, looking up at Trinity. "Ice never told me she had a sister! What was she like when she was my age?" "Trouble." Trin grined at the girl, not making a motion to leave just yet. "We kept getting caught breaking into the cookie jar at night. Or we'd run away to fairs on a differnet planet without teling our parents. It drove them wild." "Different... planets?" Soho asked, all three eyes huge in wonder. "Ice has been to different planets?" "We'll tell you when we get home." Silva muttered, flying towards them. "I hate the shop." "I said I didn't want to go!" Soho replied stubbornly. "I'm talking with Aunt Trinii!" "Perhaps you might come with us?" Aleric asked Trinity. "Oh, course." Trin answered, not wanting to get anyone into trouble. "Besides, I should pay my sister a visit... and see what I can do about that car of yours, Silva, if it's still broken." She said, heading for the door. "Broken... totaled... not much difference." He replied, shrugging as he headed for the door. He paused, glancing over at Soho. "You gonna sit there for the rest of the trip?" "Yep!" Soho replied, wiggling slightly to get comfortable. "Perhaps we should work on her stamina." Aleric said, calming Silva down before he could get angry. "Heh." Silva muttered. "Nick and Nack can do it." He said as he headed out the door and onto the street. "They're good for that sort of s**t." Trin sighed with a little smile on her face as she went out. Leave it to him to wreck her gift, though she had expected as much. It would have happened anyway. Now all seh needed to do was to see what Ice had been up too.

"We'll need to make sure the sandwiches are small enough." Aleric said as he and Ice walked into the bedroom. "I've invited two of my younger friends."
"Younger?"
"Juvenile. You'll quite enjoy these two, I know I have." He replied with a little smile. "I also believe Ruby Soho will, as well."
"Soho!" Soho called from where she was playing with the computer. Ice had shown her a file with Naruto music in it... she just needed to figure out how to open it again.
"Huh?" Aleric asked.
"I want to be called Soho." She replied, turning to him. "I like it! And it takes less time to say."
"You mean a nickname." Aleric said.
"That's it exactly." Soho replied.
"We're going to need costumes for all three of you..." Ice said, sitting on the bed. She glanced over at the still-sleeping Silva. "Of course, if you're not awake while we're planning, then it's not my fault if you don't like it." She said a little louder.
"I was thinking that the easiest thing for me, would be to dress up as a witch doctor." Aleric said thoughtfully. "I already have the markings. All I would need is a necklace and a fake skull."
"An animal skin would be good, as well--" Ice started out. Aleric shook his head.
"I'm sure I could get one, but it might be a little too... daunting for some of the younger visitors." He replied calmly. "This is only a party, after all."
"Good point. Now... for Soho..." Ice said, looking over at the little feien who had managed to find the naruto file.
"I have an idea." A sleepy sounding Silva said from his tiger bed. Ice glanced up, shocked that he would volunteer. "But it might take a little... work."
"Mister Silva Demon knows what I should wear?" Soho asked.
"Cut it with the long names, darlin. My head hurts." He muttered as he sat up. He ran a hand over his head, then pulled his toothpick out from behind his ear, inserting it between his lips. "We're going to need some black construction paper, black lace and a pearl headed pin. And some tylenol. I've got a b***h of a hangover."
"We'll have to go shopping for it." Ice said. "Black lace isn't big on my clothing list." She paused, giving him an untrusting look. "What, exactly, are you planning?"
He just looked at her. "Tylenol, Ice. Tylenol."
Ice twitched as Nick and Nack called out. "We'll get it!" And scurried off to the kitchen.

Quote: Early morning shopping is the best time to take your feien. Regardless of how much a certain white haired male might complain. Early morning comes with little old ladies and harried mothers trying to keep their kids in line. One's too blind to see the feien, the other's too overworked. Just keep the kids from seeing the feien. It's for their good more than the fairy's. (Trust me, I learned that the hard way-_-) "This, my loves, is a fabric shop. We should be able to get some scraps for a decently cheap amount." Ice said, pulling the hood of her hoodie up slightly. There were two feien sitting next to her ears, Soho had claimed the left ear, Aleric the right. Silva? Had fallen asleep again in the large pocket where he didn't have to listen to them. "It's so... big..." Soho said, awe in her voice. "Will we find my lace here?" "I'm sure we will." Ice replied, stepping onto the sensor so the door came open. "Now the rules, keep out of sight, keep out of reach, and try not to get in any trouble." "Hello..." The old lady behind the counter said. "Is there anything I can... help you with?" She was watching Ice closely, as if wondering whether she was sane or not. It didn't much help that it was still too warm for a hoodie outside... "I'm um... well..." Ice headed towards her as her mind rushed through ideas. "You see, it's this heat. It's been getting to me. My skin burns really easily, you know?" She held up a white hand to be inspected. "Oh, oh my, you must be one of those white white people! With..." She paused as she caught sight of Ice's tail. "Well, I know what you mean, dearie. With all these warnings about skin cancer and strange... growths caused by too much sun... So what are you looking for?" Soho snickered, Aleric bit back a laugh, and Silva muttered something foul. But Ice just smiled. "Well the hoodie gets hot, but I've been working on an umbrella. Like from the old days? The ones that block the sun. It's got this gorgeous black lace covering it, but I need a different style for the hem. I don't need a lot, though." "We have black lace strips in the back, dearie. And I'm sure the umbrella will come out beautifully." The old woman assured her. Thank god her hearing wasn't good enough to hear a muffled giggle. "Thank you! While I'm here I might as well check out the scrap bin, too." Ice said, heading for the back. She didn't see Silva flipping the old lady the bird, since he was in her pocket. Then again, neither did the old lady. "Okay, here's hem material..." Ice said a few seconds later. The area was empty, so she pulled the hoodie down, letting Aleric and Soho free. Silva came out of the pocket, taking to the air to look at the lace. "That one." He said, pointing at a sample. It was meant to frill, so it would work well as a skirt for someone as small as Soho. Ice nodded, grabbing a pack of it before turning towards a large bin in the back. "Let's get some blanket material, as well." She said, digging through the piles of cloth and pulling out two pieces. Silva ignored her, looking around. "Mommy! Mommy! It's that fairy guy from Wal-mart!!" The shout made Silva go still, then turn slowly with a curse. The same bratty kid whose mother had tried to buy him so long ago! "And there's the rude lady!" Silva grabbed Ice's sleave, tugging. "Ice." "Not now, Silva, Soho can't decide which pattern she likes better." Ice said, not looking up. "Ice, we got a problem..." He said a little louder. The woman and the kid were heading for him, dark looks of hatred on their faces. "Remember that brat from Wal-mart?" "Wha--" Ice turned, her eyes going wide. "Well... crap." She muttered, grabbing the lace and two pieces of cloth she had found, then grabbing her two other feien. "Why didn't you TELL me?" She demanded as she raced towards the checkout line. "I TRIED to!" He replied irritably. "Could someone tell me what's going on?" Aleric asked as Ice slammed the cloth on the desk and took a deep breath. She had never known just how slow a woman could be until now. The old lady fingered the cloth, and started to measure it. "It was in the bargain bin." Ice said. "All of that stuff is five hundred gold." "Oh... okay." The woman said, finally ringing it up. Ice glanced over her shoulder, twitching as the demon child and her mother came into sight. "There she is, Mommy! And she's got MORE!" the little kid yelled. Ice slammed the gold on the counter the moment the total came up, and grabbed the cloth, hugging it to her chest. "Thanksgottagonowbahbye!" she called as she raced out the door. She barely avoided slamming into the automatic door before it opened. The child and mother were on their trail, just in time for the elderly guard to stop them. "I'm afraid you'll have to pay for that before you leave, ma'am." He said, grabbing the woman's arm. Quote: Like I said... keep your feien away from evil little children. Especially ones that Silva has met before. -Ice

"What do you mean I''m moving?" Soho asked, staring up at Silva in confusion. His expression was unreadable.
"You''re moving to Aleric''s room. I''ll get your bowl." He told her. He took to the air, but Soho jumped, wrapping her arms around his waist.
"I don''t want to move! Everyone''s in here! Even Aleric except at night! There''s you and Nick and Nack and Ice and--" She wrapped her legs around his leg, clinging tightly. "Why are you doing this to me? Do you hate me?" She looked up at him, tears threatening all three eyes.
"Get off." He said coldly. This wasn''t the first time she had dared to go against his wishes. It was starting to get on his nerves. "Dammit, Ruby, I said get off of me."
"No!" She almost screamed as the tears started to flow. "I won''t let you get rid of me! I won''t! I won''t! I WON''T!"
"Don''t you get it yet?" Silva asked. "I''m a killer, Ruby. A ******** demon, just like you call me. I''m not any sort of role model for a girl like you."
"I don''t care." She said, pressing her face into his waist. "This is my family. If you want me with Aleric then--then make him move in here with us!"
"You''ve only been here for two days, Ruby. Getting this attached is just stupid." He told her as he chewed on his toothpick.
"Don''t you ever get attached?" She asked, looking up at him. "To anyone?"
"...Once."
"And it worked out, right?" She asked, hope in her eyes.
"No."
"See? things--" She stopped, confused. "No?"
"It didn''t work out. Getting attached is just a waste of time, darlin." He told her, walking towards her bowl, regardless of her wrapped around his leg.
"But what happened? Did she dump you? Did she cheat on you? Was it a he?"
"I''m straight, darlin. And all you need to know is that it''s over. Got it?" He said, eyeing the fishbowl for a second to find the best way to pick it up.
She needed more information. But something told her she''d have to get it some other way. So she changed her angle. "I won''t leave you, Mister Silva Demon. I mean, we share a bond, right? That makes you my--well, you''re too old to be my brother... so..."
He stopped, looking down at her with a raised eyebrow.
"You can be my bonddaddy!" she finally said. "And that makes me your bonddaughter and that means you CAN''T throw me out of the room!"
"And what does that make Aleric?" He asked. He couldn''t help himself.
"Bondpapa?" She offered. Silva shook his head. She was under his skin, dammit. He didn''t know exactly WHAT to do.
"Then go talk to your... Bondpapa for a bit, darlin. I''m starting to get a headache." He told her.
"I get to stay!" She said, letting go with a little bounce. She flew around his head twice, so fast that he blinked, then draped herself over his shoulder, breathing heavily. "I''m beat." She sighed. She was too close to the base of his wings for him to be comfortable.
"Deal with it. Nack''s been working on your costume, go talk to him if you don''t want to talk to the old man." He said, reaching up and plucking her off of him. "Nack!" He shouted. "Get over here!"
Nack came running, the frilly bunch of lace in his hand. "I did what you said, but I still don''t understand what the outfit is." Nack said. Nick and he had been watching from a distance, but he wasn''t about to say a thing about how Soho had his boss under her spell.
"I''m tired, Nack." Soho complained as he knelt in front of her to put the skirt on her. It was bunched at the waist, making it nice and frilly. He tied the string that held it so it would hang just slightly on her hips.
"How''s the hat coming, Nick?" He asked. Nick came out, the black tophat tilted rakishly on his head. Silva took it, dropping it on top of Soho''s head, then grabbing the hat pin he had found earlier and handing it to her. "That''ll do."
"Um..."
"Oh... I get it..." Nick said, looking awed. "Boss, you''re a genius."
"I don''t get it." Nack said, looking confused. "What''s the outfit of?"
"I like to call it ''Little Lolita.''" Silva replied, a hint of pride in his voice. "MY Little Lolita." He added.
"But why the tophat?" Nick asked.
"Hell if I know." Silva said with a shrug. He just liked tophats for some reason.
"Do I look gorgeous?" Soho asked, twirling so the skirt flared out, revealing the slit down the side. Both boys nodded. "Good." She said, sounding satisfied. It was as if the little crying jag and manipulation had never taken place.
Astonishing.

Meeting Sayuri Soho looked over her shoulder, pouting greatly. "I'm tired again, Mister Silva Demon!" She called, even though she couldn't see him. He was making her take the trip to the shop all on her own. He wasn't even letting Aleric help her! That meanie! Her flying dipped slightly to the right as her tiredness made her off-balance. She was almost there, though! Just a little bit more... Of course, she had had to sit down three times already... "You're doing well, Soho." Aleric said from a distance. "Just a little further." She nodded, taking a deep breath and going on. Just a little further... she would show Mister Silva Demon she could do it! Just because he said she probably couldn't! Sayuri was sat in the reception, flicking through a magazine. Things had changed since she was last Guardian to a Feien...who had become severely displeased when life had taken a turn, Sayuri had given birth and he had become jealous to the point where he could no longer live with her. He had left, returned to the shop, and she had lost all contact with him. But once again she wanted to open her home to one of the little creatures, and knowing a reconciliation with Saffron was out of the question she had applied for another, a female this time, hoping for a better relationship this time around. "I... Did it!" She said, falling against the buzzer as she panted heavily. The door opened but she couldn't move. She was exhausted. "Good job, Soho!" Aleric said, coming into sight. He offered her his arms, to carry her, and she slipped into his hold with a deep, heartfelt sigh. "I'm so... tired..." She whimpered, laying limply in his hold as he headed into the building. Silva stepped into sight, following them. "You didn't do half bad, darlin." He told her, earning a happy smile. "I didn't, did I?" She bragged as they headed up the stairs and into the reception room. Silva paused, noticing the human first. Aleric noticed a few seconds later. "Good morning." Aleric said, heading towards Sayuri, the still exhausted feien in his arms. "How are you?" Sayuri shut the magazine, starting a little. 'Umm hello,' she smiled a little. 'I'm okay thanks...' she then noticed the flaked out feien the other was carrying. 'Is she okay?' "She's fine." Aleric said, smiling slightly and rubbing Soho's head. "We're working on her stamina." He added. "She had to fly all the way here on her own." "And I did it, too!" Soho added, still breathing hard. She turned, looking at the silent Silva. "See? I CAN do it!" "That's not what you told me when you were sitting on the sidewalk crying." He replied. Soho stuck her tongue out at him. "My name is Aleric." the purple feien holding her said. "This little one is Ruby Soho, and our bondbrother--" "Bonddaddy!" Soho interrupted. "My bondbrother, then, is Silva." Aleric finished, nodding at the taller dark red feien. "We are bonded to Ice Queen. And you are?" 'I am pleased to meet you. And well done,' she nodded at Soho. 'Its a good thing indeed to be self-sufficient,' Sayuri folded her kimono sleeves, and standing, gave a little bow, her kimono skirts rustling as she did so. 'My name is Nitta Sayuri..you may call me Sayuri.' "It's a pleasure to meet you, Sayuri." Aleric replied, nodding his head. He couldn't bow properly with an armful of little girl. Silva wasn't so polite. He chewed on his toothpick, looking her over for a second before speaking. "You somebody's bond?" He asked. Soho watched, still a little too breathless to join in on the conversation properly. That and she had just noticed how weird looking Aleric's wings were... she wanted to touch, but he was using them... Sayuri shook her head at the Feien, ignoring his manner for now; 'No not yet. But hopefully sometime soon.' She took a seat again, not wanting to be overbearing in her size. "Really? Do you know what she'll be like?" Soho asked excitedly. "I haven't met any feien other than Mister Silva Demon and Aleric yet..." She said, frowning slightly as she realized that. "You'll meet more than enough tomorrow." Silva told her, making a slight face that only Aleric picked up on. 'I dont actually, no,' Sayuri grinned a little at Soho's enthusiasm. 'I am to take charge of a bloom from what I understand.' Sayuri crossed her legs at her ankles under the kimono. 'I am eager to meet her though.' "Can I meet her, too?" Soho asked, wiggling in Aleric's arms so she could look straight at the kimono wearing woman. "When you get her?" How they could just hover there that easily she had no idea, but she wasn't about to complain. Just what they needed... another bloom, Silva thought dryly. "Perhaps you would like to meet some of the feien and bonds tomorrow, as well?" Aleric offered. "Before you get your own, that is. Our bondmate is throwing a party in honor of Soho's blooming." "I'm two days old." Soho said proudly. Sayuri nodded; 'You most certainly can.' She looked at Aleric when he spoke. 'If its ok for an un-bonded to attend then thank you. I would like that.' Sayuri smiled at Soho. 'Oh two days already huh? Congrats.' she chuckled. "Thank you!" Soho said. "Mister Silva Demon said I was gorgeous... then he said that wasn't always a good thing, but I like it." She pushed her hair out of her third eye, completely unaware that there might be something considered wrong with having a third eye in the first place. And as far as she knew, she was the most beautiful creature to fly. Silva choked on his toothpick, glancing over at Aleric for an explanation from the slightly smiling feien. "You hadn't noticed her gift for storytelling?" Aleric asked. "She tells everything she knows to anyone willing to listen." "Well... s**t." Silva muttered. There was a tiny bit of red on the back of his neck. Aleric just bit back a little smirk. Smirking wasn't polite, after all, and turned back to Sayuri. "I don't see why not. You'll be bonded soon enough, correct?" Sayuri covered her smiles, her eyes dancing with amusement and giving her away. She calmed a little, putting the hand on her lap. 'Well I'm not sure when it will be but I am hoping that it will be soon. I'm a patient person however, so the waiting is okay. But I'm just anticipating having someone new in my life. So basically yes I will be bonded soon.' she grinned wryly. "Then by all means, consider yourself invited." Aleric replied. "Perhaps you might meet more feien you would like to introduce your... future feien to." "I hope so! I want to meet a lot of people!" Soho said, squirming again. Aleric let her go, realizing that she had regained her strength. She buzzed across the room, landing on the desk in front of Sayuri. "I really want to meet some kids like me." She said confidentially. "Mister Silva Demon and Aleric are just so... old." "I'm only six months..." Aleric said, trying not to laugh. "At least, this time around, that is." "Hell, I won't deny it. I'm a year and a month old." Silva said with a shrug. "Surprised I lived that long." "You have a point." Aleric agreed. 'Thanks. I'm sure I'll have a good time. It will be nice to meet the other bonds and Feien.' Sayuri laughed. 'Oh so you think 6mths and a year and 1 mth is old huh? I'm 28 years.' she winked at Soho. "Feien don't live that long." Silvs drawled with a shrug. "Three or four years tops. And that's the ones that don't get shot at on a regular basis." "It's been at least a month since we were last shot at." Aleric said to him. "True. It's gotten damned dull, hasn't it?" Silva asked. "You've been shot at?" Soho asked, all three eyes going wide. "Both of you?" "That's a story for another time, Soho." Aleric said. "The map to Ice's place is on the desk." He told Sayuri, changing the topic. Sayuri nodded; 'Well yes but..' her eyes widened. 'Shot at?' she sat up a little. Was this something she would have to worry about when her own Feien arrived? 'Uh yes. Thanks. I'll look before I go.' "Actually, we weren't shot at that time..." Silva said, looking thoughtful. "It was Ice--" He stopped as Aleric gave him a meaningful look. "It doesn't happen often." He muttered. "It doesn't happen at all to most." Aleric agreed, glancing meaningfully at the two females. "You do that." He told Sayuri, smiling once again. "We'll have food and entertainment. The feien are having a costume party, as well." "I'm going as a lolita!" Soho agreed. 'Well I guess thats ok then.' Sayuri said, sitting back again before realising the time and standing. 'I'm sure you will look lovely.' she smiled at Soho. 'Well I am afraid I must take my leave. It was very good meeting you all.' "Bye Bye!" Soho said, waving. "It was a pleasure to meet you." Aleric said, bowing slightly. Silva grunted. "See kid? No feien here. Let's go." He said. Soho raised her arms. "Carry me?" Silva rolled his eyes, but picked her up anyways.

costume party The backyard of Ice's place is remarkably normal. Half of the patio is covered with a white roof, for a cooler cooking area. On the uncovered area are two child sized swimming pools. One is actually a miniature beach, complete with a wave system. (Yes, this IS the surfing pool.) The other is filled with calm, cool water. On the patio under the covering is a grill covered with food being cooked. Two women man the meat, one a tiger like silent girl, the other a bubbly green-haired girl. Their names are Kisa and Jade. Ask them for what food you want and they'll get it^^ Next to them is a long folding table covered with chips, dip, fruit trays, veggie trays, meat trays, buns, cups and drinks. (And whatever else you might find at a picnic for feien.) There are two sets of each object, one in humanoid size, the other in feien. The grass is short, cut for this party, so any games one might want to play are easy for feien sized people. That's partially why there are two fruit trays. One for eating, the other for sports balls. There's a small tree in the middle of the yard, just the right size for playing tag in. There is also a white shed to the right, but you will probably want to stay out of it. That's where the last of the rats lives. (And to live in the same yard that Silva does means he's one mean sonuvabeetch.) There is punk music playing in the background, a more mellow set of songs, because the hard stuff irritates the hell out of Silva. But the one that is played the most is "Ruby Soho" by Rancid. Speakers are mounted to the outdoor roof, so it gets decent surround sound. There are brightly colored decorations, as well. It's a raeggae style, with bright reds and greens. Frogs and lizards, mainly, in design. Soho has a thing for them. (Naruto influence.) There's a sign on the front door of the house saying "Go on back, the party's waiting!" "But why won't you be IN the party?" Soho asked, looking up at Nick and Nack with a little pout. The two boys were sitting on the CD player in Ice's room, flipping through the CDs. "Well... see..." Nack started out hesitantly. How could he explain it? "We're freaks." Nick said bluntly. "You bring in a feien, one outside of the family, they automatically think we're Silva's whipping boys. Then you get the pitying looks, and them, not the boss, talking about us as if we weren't..." "Smart enough to make our own decisions." Nack finished. "They don't realize what they're doing. Well, cept that blue female. She knew." Both boys nodded. "But we don't mind DJ'ing, Soho. It's kind of fun. And this is the one time we get away with pissing the boss off without being made to run twenty laps." "But what if I get tired?" She asked, unwilling to give up so easily. "Aleric will be there." Both said at the same time. "And what if--" "The Boss will be there." They said without even waiting for her question. Both tried not to laugh when she crossed her arms across her chest and glared at them. "You look real pretty, Soho!" Nick said, earning a smile. "You think?" She asked, twirling to show off her skirt. "Sure do! Now why don't you go out there and get ready to greet your guests, huh?" She jumped. "Oh, I should, shouldn't I?" She floated up, taking the time to kiss each boy on the cheek. "Bye Nick! Bye Nack!" She called before zipping out the window. "Good job, boys." Silva said as he stepped out of the shadows to follow her. Nick and Nack nodded. Having spotted activity next door from Zayne's bedroom window, Sunil was currently perched on the fence between her yard and Silva's. The yard behind her was starting to show the effects of Kam's currently degenerating state and the subsequent neglect everything was suffering. Sunil tried not to pay that any mind, since Kam wasn't her bond anymore. Standing up as tall as she possibly could in her juvenile form, Sunil peered down on the party. She was hesitant to just fly in, since this was Silva's yard - not that she was scared of him, but he was dangerous - but her curiousity won out. Gliding on her cloth wings, Sunil made her way to land heavily beside a fruit tray. Frowning at the sweet things arrayed there, she sauntered over to a veggie tray and picked up a carrot stick to nibble on. Silva noticed her first, a slight frown on his face as he realized who it was. Sunil meant trouble. She always meant trouble, kid form or adult. But before he could do anything about it, Soho caught sight of the newcomver. A large smile crossed her face as she flew to the table, waving excitedly. "Hello!!" She called, landing on the table. "My name's Ruby Soho, but you can call me Soho. And you are?" Silva cursed and got ready to jump in the moment trouble began. Sunil munched on her carrot as she gave Ruby the once over with her eyes. With a mostly quiet snort, she tried to match the other juvenile's smile. "I'm Sunil. Do you... live here?" The lack of any obvious bonds or other groups of feien made that a distinct possibility, although Sunil was privately hoping for a more interesting answer. "Yep!" Soho said happily. "With Aleric and Mister Silva Demon. Mister Silva Demon comes home covered with blood really really late at night." She added confidentially. "But when I tried to get him to do it for the party he wouldn't. So, um... what's your costume?" She asked. "Mister Silva Demon's not wearing one, but Aleric's a witch doctor and I'm a lolita!" It literally took all of Sunil's self-control not to laugh out loud in Ruby's face. Instead she just blinked rapidly before getting control of herself. "I'm not wearing a costume," she said, taking another bite of carrot. "I wasn't aware I was supposed to." Looking Ruby up and down one more time, Sunil had to concede that she looked very nice. Grudgingly, she told the other female so. "Your costume is very nice. So, why isn't Silva wearing a costume?" Looking around as if she was about to divulge a secret, Sunil leaned in close to Ruby. "I bet you could have made him look very dashing." "You think?" Soho asked guilelessly. "I think he's terrifying more often than not. But hey, everyone's got to be themselves, right?" She shrugged, looking at all the food. "Do you know Mister Silva Demon very well?" She asked, grabbing a handful of watermelon from the fruit tray and taking a bite. Maybe this other juvenile knew something about his past. No matter how young she was, she was probably older than Soho. Soho wasn't very old, after all. Sunil grinned behind her carrot. "Indeed. To each their own is what someone in my household says. And I wouldn't say I know Silva particularly well, but I did beat the crap out of him once. Why?" Sunil preened a little, forgetting how ridiculous that must sound in her current form. "You beat him up?" Soho asked, sounding stunned. "Oh... I bet he didn't like that..." She shook her head. "But he said that he used to have a relationship, but it didn't work out... It was really sad." Or irritating. It had made her have to backstep to get what she wanted. "You wouldn't know anything about that, would you?" She asked, looking up at the other feien innocently. Get straight to the story that interested her the most. Until she was distracted, that was. Thankfully that hadn't happened yet! But she was just guessing now... for all she knew this blue juvenile wouldn't know a thing... "He didn't like it," Sunil said. "But I was older then and he was still a juvenile." Sunil tapped her chin thoughtfully, pretending to think about the question - which she had to assume related to Ruya. "I might know something about it. I did have a friend who was very good... friends... with Silva a long time ago. What did Silva tell you about this relationship? So that I can be sure it was my friend he was talking about," Sunil finished. She put on hand on her hip, while continuing to nibble away at the carrot. It was hard to believe Silva hadn't interrupted this conversation. "You know, if it was her - she might be able to drop by here sometime, since she lives right next door." Assuming she ever emerged from her stupid bloom state, Sunil thought bitterly. "He said that attachments are stupid..." Soho said with a little pout. "And that he had been attached to someone but it hadn't worked out." She took another bite of watermelon. This feien obviously knew who she was... but that she might be here for the party? This was just TOO good! Soho paused as something tinged her excitement... Was that... jealousy? She blinked, getting lost in her thoughts for a moment. That could be a problem... He had stopped with the smile. No, not Soho's. Soho's he had expected. But Sunil's was terrifyingly off-base. And he had listened with a growing sense of masochistic fascination. When they had brought up Ruya, something had made him stop from interrupting. He still wasn't sure what that something had been... but he was pretty sure he hated it. With a passion. "It goes back to the storytelling." Aleric said from behind him. Silva grunted, still fighting himself. "You've got a past, she doesn't yet. It's no surprise she's fascinated with yours." "There's more to it than that." Silva muttered. He eyed his "bonddaughter" for a moment. "But I haven't figured it out just yet..." "Hmm... you might be right." Aleric agreed. "Attachments are stupid," Sunil said smoothly, agreeing strongly with Silva - although she couldn't quite remember why she thought so. Her eyes unfocused for a moment while she tried to dredge up some of the memories she had lost. She was unsuccessful and eventually returned to the conversation at hand. "But I think we are speaking of the same feien. Ruya is her name and she lives with me. We're actually bonded to the same person." Sunil thought about stopping there, but she really couldn't help but add the next part. For whose benefit she wasn't sure. "Tragically, Ruya has lost all of her memories." That really seemed like the sort of thing this nosy, bubbly little feien would like. It was so very soap opera. "She's lost her memories?" Soho repeated, her eyes going wide. Ruya... whoever she was... wouldn't remember Silva, even if Silva remembered her! For just a second a little smile played on her pretty lips, then she frowned. "That's too bad..." She said, shaking her head. "I guess he was right about attachments not lasting..." She glanced around, catching sight of Aleric first, then Silva as the shadow moved slightly. "Does Mister Silva Demon know she won't remember him?" "Oh yes," Sunil said, pausing to chomp into the carrot violently. "He knows. Although it really doesn't seem fair for poor Ruya to be in the dark about her past when everyone else will know about it." Sunil smirked and finished off the carrot stick. "Her old diary is laying around the house somewhere and I think I may have to let Ruya read at least parts of her past writings. The questions is, of course, which parts are important and which ones aren't. Perhaps if you read it..." Sunil trailed off, looking like she was considering something carefully. "Maybe you could help me decide which parts would be important for Ruya to be aware of. I mean, you seem to know Silva very well." Soho blinked, astonished. "You mean it? I mean..." She paused, trying to think out the ramifications of the offer. It wasn't as if it would hurt this unknown girl's feelings! She wouldn't remember, so she probably wouldn't feel anything about it, right? It would be like reading a piece of ancient history... Silva stayed silent. If Ruby got the diary he could burn the thing before Sunil got it back. That would save him a lot of problems. For the first time since the conversation began, he smirked. Soho's natural instinct to meddle was starting to work out for him! "Could I?" Soho asked. "Of course," Sunil said, faking a bright demeanor. "I'll have to leave to go whip up a costume, anyway. I'll just bring it back with me." Sunil looked like the cat who ate the canary, very pleased with herself but slightly guilty. With a little finger wave to Ruby, she took to the air. "I'll be seeing you, Soho." "Bye Sunil!!" Soho called, waving happily. "I''ll see you soon!" "You can''t honestly let her read that, can you?" Aleric asked Silva quietly. "Who says she''ll get the chance?" Silva drawled. "But it''s not fair for Ruya''s old memories to be forced on her when she wants to forget, now is it?" He turned, heading for where Soho was munching on her watermelon, looking for all the world as if he couldn''t care less what she had been up to. Aleric sighed and fingered his skull necklace. They were getting into shady territory with this one... he only hoped they didn''t ruin their own lives as well as Ruya''s. Hitomi fluttered uneasily towards the backyard where the party was coming from. Usually flight wasn't quite so difficult, but under the circumstances she sought out a magician to magick her wings to be...different from their normal state. With surprisingly neat effects. And she wasn't quite used to the clothes she was wearing either. While it was cute, the green dress was a bit restricting. She peeked around the corner of the house and saw the people gathered there. She fluttered in and over to where they were, but hanging back, trying to feel out their personalities before introducing herself. Silva and Aleric glanced up at the same time. Aleric smiled in greeting, Silva snorted. And then, finally, Soho looked up from where she was trying to eat a grape. She reached up, wiping at her mouth and looking from Aleric to Silva, curiously. How had they known someone was here? She shrugged it off, smiling widely. "Hi!! How are you? My name's Ruby Soho!" She called, waving at the newcomer. Hitomi took that as her cue that she was at least welcome. She said, "Hi! My name is Hitomi! I dressed up like Tinkerbell. I made the dress and shoes myself. But a friend of my Mom's put special magic on my wings to make them all fancy like. And he said that it wears off at midnight so I have to make sure that I'm home, because my costume wouldn't look as good without it. And that would make me sad. And plus mom said that I shouldn't stay out so late. She feels like our new bloom might be hatching sometime soon and I don't want to miss it. I like grapes." Hitomi looked at the remains of the grape that Ruby had in her hand. "It's nice to meet you." "Did you catch that?" Aleric asked Silva softly. "Not a bit." He replied. "Somebody needs to lay off the sugar sticks." "Really? You made it all by yourself?" Ruby asked, clasping her hands. "That's awesome! And your wings look really good!" She said. "But you're right, you should leave before they stop shining." She finished with a nod. "It's a miracle." Aleric said calmly. "She speaks gibberish. Quite a talent." Silva said equally quietly. She smiled widely before continuing on, "But midnight isn't for a while away..right? I hope not because if it's soon then I wouldn't be able to stay and have fun with everyone before they stopped being shiny. And taht would make me sad. It's been a while since I've been out having fun. Is Kojak coming? He's amazing. He has a tail! It's black and yellow. Like my hair, except it's blue and yellow. He has a really big house and a really big family. At my house it's just me and my mom and the new bloom, but it hasn't hatched yet. But it looks really cool. It's black and white and it has red speckles. The doctor said it was a girl. It will be fun to have another girl. We can paint our nails and do our hair and do fun girl things. You have pretty wings." Hitomi fluttered down and grabbed hold of a grape and fluttered back up to Ruby smiling widely before muching on her grape. Silva and Aleric looked at each other, shrugged, and pulled the staffs hanging over their backs off to start a spar. Soho was filtering the repetitious things the other feien said, all the while keeping her smile. "You've got a bloom? That's great! I was a bloom just a little while ago. It's a little crowded inside." She finished with a nod. Then she preened, rustling her wings. "I'm pretty fond of my wings, but you're the first feien I've met with feathers, too! Mister Silva Demon has scales and Aleric has these funny claw things on his." She turned, looking at her wings with a happy little smile. "I've got a scale of Mister Silva Demon's!" She said, holding her necklace out to show it off. The constant tapping of staff against staff distracted Soho as it got closer. She let out a yelp as she realized that Silva and Aleric had moved their sparring to the table. "Mister Silva Demon! Aleric! Would you stop that?! I'm trying to have a--" She stormed off to yell at them, completely forgetting that she had been having a conversation. Aleric stopped first, earning a jab to the gut for his politeness. "Ooof..." He muttered, bending over as he recovered. "Forgive us, Soho. It's a bad habit of ours." Soho raised her arms to Silva. "I'm tired, Mister Silva Demon. Hold me?" Silva snorted, but picked her up anyways. "Attention span is almost as short as her stamina." He told Aleric, earning a nod where Soho couldn't see it. The two latest newcomers probably would have been there earlier had the younger of the two not fussed about exactly what they were wearing: thankfully for the purposes of the costume party, their bondmate had a large collection of fondly-kept Barbie clothes. Burgundia thought these adorable. Cascati thought them not. In the end, he'd been forced into a small pair of what were apparently supposed to be bluejeans - Christ, clothes itched - his hair tied back and a little cowboy hat perched on his momentarily tamed riot of bluewhite curls and spikes: obviously the world's tiniest and - as he had eyed his mirror - utterly gayest cowboy: all he needed was assless chaps. Maybe Gallium could pierce his nipples. Burgundia, on the other hand, wasn't really dressed up as anything: she'd taken a little demure pink print dress that was appropriately calf-length and scoop-necked to show off the necklace that she apparently wasn't ever going to take off. M's diamond. She'd brushed her hair over and over and tied it back again with a pink ribbon. Rose had thought she looked adorable and had cut little wee mouse slits for Dee's wings. Casca helpfully told her that she was dressed as a Stepford wife, something Dee didn't really understand. "Do I look fine," she was saying. "You look so fine, Dee-dear." "Do I look immodest? I can't make a bad impression on her, I just can't. I do think you should've worn a shirt." "I'm allergic to shirts, ma cherie." "You can see my ankles, is it really surely appropriate? This is gonna make an impression on her 'till she dies - " "Darling, if you don't get in there any time soon, I'm going to quite possibly go off and leave you here." Burgundia gave her brother a mean, squinty-eyed look which he had come to know intimately: with one last pat of her hair and one last faintly worried look at her pale bare arms, she set off fizzing with nervousness into the backyard. Casca, much less so, thought comfortably about the cigarettes in his back pocket. "Darlin..." Silva said. He knew for a fact that Soho had recovered already, if she had had to recover at all. But she was still sitting in his arms, playing with his rattail. "Mister Silva Demon, you really need to change shampoos." She told him with a little nod. "Your hair could be much softer!" "Darlin, we've got more visitors." He said, trying not to snort. Soho glanced up, smiling widely at the newcomers and waving. "Helloo!!!" She called happily, finally wiggling out of Silva's arms and taking to the air. She headed for Dee first, her hands out. "You look so pretty! My name is Soho! I'm a lolita." Casca had to count to ten and hold his breath so that he didn't laugh at a number of things: Burgundia's expression, Silva previously cradling Soho in his arms, or the general Soho-ness of the new juvenile. Silva was in for a rough ride. Karma was beautiful. And, hey, he wasn't complaining at her outfit. Burgundia, however, varied wildly between diving on the juvenile so that nobody could see the sheer amount of skin she was displaying and her innocence thus kept, or being good-mannered. In the end, she was too excited to decide, and did a mixture of both: she took Soho's hands in her own and beamed at the other juvenile. "Hideecuteshoeshow'syo'daddy," she said breathlessly, and then after she'd gulped in air: "My name's Burgundia but call me Dee and I'm yo' sist-ah and you are surely be-yoo-ti-ful." "My sister?" Soho asked, all three eyes going huge. Then she let out a little scream, glomping the other feien tightly. "I have a sister!!" She said happily, pulling back again. "And so pretty a sister! Of course you SHOULD be pretty, since you're related to me, after all! Mister Silva Demon said I was gorgeous! Then he said that wasn't always a good thing, but--" She stopped, just beaming back at Dee. Aleric chose to speak up. "She meant she was dressed as a lolita, Dee. Not that she is one." He said as he flew close. "It is wonderful to see you again. How have you been doing?" Silva's eyes were narrowed and focused completely on Casca. He remembered the little s**t quite clearly. "I've been doin' just fine," Dee said, still breathless, eyes big and full as she took all of Soho in. One hand was still happily clutched in her sister's. "Thank you kindly for askin', how's you and yours - oh, isn't she just so precious? Ruby, I declare you're the purtiest thing I did ever set eyes on, I swannee - happy first birthday, by the by, my bondmate brought over a box of chocolates, which isn't the best present considerin', your bondmate will probably just have to eat 'em." Cascati, away from the screaming bustle of juvenile girls, finally noticed Silva's eyes; he tipped his hat at the other Feien and gave him a slow, secret smile, touching his lips just once before he pulled a cigarette out of his pocket and a splintered piece of match. "Don't smoke, 'tisn't nice," Dee said severely but halfheartedly, mostly enraptured by Soho. "I'm not, dear, I'm inspecting my cigs for holes." Casca's attention was still all on Silva. "Hullo, darling. It's so nice to see you again." Ruby, Soho, Ruby Soho... what did it matter? She had a sister!! Soho grinned, hugging Dee again, then pulling back and looking around wildly. She wanted to show her EVERYTHING! And show her and tell her and-- "You got me CHOCOLATE?" She finally asked. "I'll eat every bite! I promise!" She had never had chocolate before... Silva snorted, both at Soho's reaction and Casca's comment. "Can't say that I return the feeling." He drawled. Soho glanced up at his tone, then over at Casca, cocking her head. "Um... Hi! I'm Soho." She called, not letting go of Dee. "Nice to meet you!" "That's my brother," Burgundia explained helpfully. "My bond-brother, I mean. He's no relation." "Charmed, ma petite," Cascati drawled; he ambled over to Soho, still in eye of Silva, leaning over to deliver her a quick peck on the cheek before moving away to light his match on a piece of rough cardboard torn from a match-box. "Any sister of Silva's is a friend of mine. Isn't that so, Silva-sweetling? The love we share, boundless and free, naked and wild." Burgundia ignored this exchange: the secret for both of them to live in harmony was to start developing singular deafness. "Do let me call you Ruby," she said coaxingly to Soho. "Everyone'll be calling you Soho and Ruby's so pretty, I'd love to call you it special." "Touch her again and I'll show you just how deep my... love... goes." Silva replied coldly. Soho blinked, only to be distracted by Dee's question. "I guess..." She said, looking thoughtful. "I mean, you're my sister! It's okay if my sister calls me Ruby!" She smiled again, pleased that she had worked that out so easily. "But Silva's not my bondbrother, he's waaaay too old. He's my bonddaddy!" "She decided that on her own." Aleric added as Soho nodded happily. "And Aleric is my bondpapa! So they have to help me when I need help." And hold her, and give her what she wanted and-- "Don't get me so aroused," Cascati said mildly, lighting the end of the cigarette and distastefully waving the match out. "Soon I'll start to think you secretly love me. All right, sweetheart, I won't kiss her any more, not if it makes you jealous." Burgundia, still ignoring her brother, was still beaming all over her pale little face. "Casca's too itty-bitty to be a bonddaddy. So he's my brother. I do wish I had a bondfather sometimes, Casca can just be the worst chaperone, I'll tell you all about it some time when we can talk proper. But I'm your real live blood sister, so I swear I'll help you too. I can do your hair and we can go places together and talk and it'll be just fii-iiine." "Really?! I'd love that!" Soho said excitedly. "We could meet all sorts of people and hear all sorts of stories! And music and food!" She stopped. "That made me hungry. Are you hungry?" "You think Ice would notice if I killed the little s**t in our backyard?" Silva asked, glancing over at Aleric. "She never notices the rats..." "I'd surely love a bite to eat if you're peckish," Burgundia said demurely, and smoothed down the front of her dress with her free hand. "Just an itty-bitty bit. Shall we?" "Of course," the ice Feien was saying, taking a deep slow drag of the makeshift cigarette, "of course, I'm just saying, darling - I couldn't ever give her a roll, she looks so very much like you. Just imagine. I'd be yelling out your name, precious. Then again, if that's her kink..." Silva stopped, his expression going blank for a second as an image of the dead, blood soaked rat flashed in his head. Then he calmed. "Soho's off limits." He said plainly. "You wanna f*ck someone, find yourself a plastic doll. It might actually not complain about how damn small your hands are." He smirked. Soho tugged Dee towards the table. "We've got all SORTS of things to eat!" "Darling, sometimes people prefer dexterity as opposed to your large hamfisted way of doing things." There was a horrible, empty look in Casca's eyes: too blank, too intent, too hungry. A little bit like the rat. "So no Soho. Anyway, dear, plastic gives me hives, though thank you for offering, I hear through the grapevine it's the only way you get any lately. Cigarette?" Burgundia was already wisely going along with Soho, away from Casca, who obviously had all the mental capacity of a lemming. "I haven't really eaten yet," she admitted. "I'll have to beg you to help me, darlin', I surely don't know what to eat. What tastes good?" "I like fruit!" Soho said, heading for the fruit tray and grabbing a handful of watermelon. "This is really yummy! And the grapes are good, too, and--" she eventually named every fruit on the tray and some that weren't even there. Silva raised an eyebrow, looking into his eyes for a second. He had seen that look before... "So, boy, when did you lose your soul?" He asked casually. "Lost mine... hell... probably the first time I was shot at..." He said thoughtfully.

Part II Burgundia was apparently content to listen to everything Soho said; eventually she picked up a little bit of cut apple, screwed up her face, and prissily bit into it. She made a small noise of surprise when there proved to be more liquid than she anticipated: she mopped down her chin, actually managing to giggle a bit - which was deeply new for her - as she chewed and swallowed. "Oh, my," she said eventually. "That''s nice. I''ll get fat soon and won''t fit into anything." "Down a copper mine," Casca said to Silva, with deep satisfaction. "******** up beyond all comprehension, my dear. I do admire you, you know, in your own special little way; you didn''t rise to anything I said. And I was trying so hard. I was hoping for at least a brutal beating. Daddyhood must have gentled you. Do take my ''sister'', too, I''ve been pretty much contemplating suicide ever since she came. Do you like my outfit? I look extremely homosexual. I almost expect sweet butch Sunil to jump my bones, I look so deeply gay." "No. It was that damn rat that got to me." Silva said plainly. "About the time I realized I had crushed his skull with my fist." It was true, he realized. He had seen the blood on his hands for a few days afterwards. But the blood had only mattered when he realized Soho would be in the same house as he was. His eyes flicked over to the two females, contemplating for a second. "And you''re right. You do look like a f**." Aleric was silent, realizing just how close to being true their words were. Both males were... lacking something. "Isn''t it just great?" Soho asked, taking a large bite out of her watermelon and sitting on the table. "And it''s so good that I wouldn''t MIND gaining weight! But Mister Silva Demon eats all the time and he''s SUPER skinny! So I don''t think it''s a problem." She added with a nod. "Well, at least you''ll be controlling the rat population," Casca said baldly, and took in a deep lungful of the smoke again. His gaze had followed Silva''s to the girls. "First kill. You looked it. But I wouldn''t worry about your ma elle, ducky. She seems pretty sanguine. I half got lucky with my own, Burgundia is exquisitely psychotic. Nobody seems to give a damn any more." "It''s pure delicious," Burgundia said sincerely, arranging her skirts so she could sit down next to Soho. "I''m going to eat every scrap of it." She paused after a few moments, still daintily eating the apple with both her hands and still getting messy anyway. "Why do you call him Silva Demon, if I can ask just a li''l bit, Ruby? He''s not bad to you, is he? He doesn''t give you a whop or anything horrific-like?" "Oh, no! Mister Silva Demon''s very nice to me! But he comes home every night covered in blood. and the first time I saw him I just KNEW he was a demon!" Soho said happily. "So now he''s Mister Silva Demon!" "First kill?" Silva repeated blankly. "The rat?" He sounded so incredulous that it couldn''t have been faked. "Kid, I can''t even remember my first kill. Must have been a day or two old..." He said, looking thoughtful. "That wasn''t the problem. The problem was I didn''t remember smashing the b*****d''s head." He brought his hand up to look at it. "I prefer to strangle them." Burgundia made the mental note to talk very quickly to Aleric in private about whether Soho was going to enjoy an appropriately safe home life. "Well, I''ve met your daddy Aleric and he''s a perfect gentle-man," she said. "He was the one who showed me your pretty bloom when you were just itty-bitty." "Strangling''s more intimate," Casca said dreamily, tapping the cigarette. "So basically, dearling, you have a lot of rat-sex except now you bashed one''s brains in. I always knew you''d turn out to be a psychotic killer. I''m so happy to know you." "Not intimate. Fun." Silva replied. "Wrap the chain around his neck and ride him to the ground. You might try it sometime." He''d probably wind up dead before he got the chain around its neck. The idea made Silva smirk. "It''s important that we reduce the rat population before Soho learns her elemental spells." Aleric said calmly. "She''s an earth element, after all." He hoped Dee heard him, he had picked up on her anxiety. He could only assume it was about the males'' conversation. "You saw my bloom?" Soho asked. "Was it awfully pretty? Right now it''s just sort of... limp looking." "I''m not into rats, sweetling," the other feien said patiently. "If I have to be in the middle of blood sport, I''d prefer it to have four limbs and be Feien-shaped. Otherwise, what''s the entertainment?" Casca also preferred to be in and out in ten seconds. If he didn''t do things quickly he was pretty much sunk, considering. "I''m sure Soho is grateful for the rodent holocaust." Dee had relaxed a little: she wiped her mouth again, apple all gone, fussy. "It was be-yoo-ti-ful," she promised her half-sister. "It was just gor-geous. You were very, very pretty indeed." "Oh good!" Soho said, relieved. "I was worried about that. I''ve seen Mister Silva Demon''s bloom, but it''s hard to believe that he ever fit in it. He''s just so TALL! And then one day I''ll look at my bloom and say the same thing!" She nodded seriously, as if it were a very strange idea. She paused, something hitting her. "You''re my sister, have you met my real parents?" She asked. "It would be nice knowing where I came from, you know." "Oh, really..." Silva said, a flash of interest in his eyes. "Give him your staff, Aleric." Aleric pulled the staff off, holding it out to the juvenile feien. This was much better. A physical training session wasn''t likely to get anyone killed. and as he had noted often before, to learn about someone else, the best way was to spar with them. Silva grabbed his staff, spinning it slowly. Regretfully, Burgundia shook her head. "I never met our daddy," she said. "We share him, you see. Isaac. You have a different mama in your breedin'', but we''re both Isaac''s chirren, sure as sure can be. I might''ve met him, but the Fleet erased my memory when I got transferred to Rose-mama. Maybe we''ll both meet him one day. I''d like that just fine." She smiled at Soho, fastidiously rearranging her pink skirts. "I guess we look a little alike, don''t we? Your eyes are just like mine only on account of you having three and me two and our hair''s the same colour." Cascati looked at the staff in his one hand, laughing as he took it, accounting for the solid weight. It wasn''t a particularly happy laugh. "Darling, it''s not quite my style. You know you''re just going to beat the sheer s**t out of me." That look in his eyes again, taking it in both his hands, cigarette transferred to one corner of his mouth. "So come on, sweetheart." "It''s a blood sport, kid. Just takes a little more work than a blade to make people bleed." Silva said. "Perhaps I should be the one he starts out with, Silva." Aleric said, frowning slightly. There was something... off about this spar... Silva''s staff slammed into Cascati''s before he could finish that thought, hard enough to sting, if it didn''t knock the staff out of his hands completely. Soho nodded. "I hope so! I''d like to know where I came from..." She paused, noting the similarities with a smile. "I really like your hair! It''s spiky like one of those cartoons I watch! Can I play with it? Mister Silva Demon and Aleric''s hair is too short to do anything with." Aleric''s staff immediately clattered to the floor: nothing loath at the stab of pain, Casca raised his hand. It took barely a second for the collected moisture in the air to condense, fracture the light into a hard icicle of his element: that he could carry. And it soothed what was going to be bruised fingers, too. "But blood is the point, ducky," he said, slightly muffled by the cigarette; and then he came at Silva wholesale, mindless, not so much a tactical move as attempting to cling to him like a particularly determined and suicidal limpet. His skin was arrestingly cold. "Oh, of course," Dee was saying happily: she and Soho were like the cuddle channel in comparison to the WWF going on just a little way away. "I wish you would. I can''t do a single blessed thing with it except tie it back, it just falls in spikes. It''s such a waste on a woman, I wish I had your hair." Soho jumped to her feet, pausing to look at her hands. "Let me wash up first, you don''t want sticky hair!" She said, heading for a small paper cup of water to rinse off in. She came back a few seconds later, dropping down behind Dee and running her hands gently through the other feien''s hair. "It''s much softer than Mister Silva Demon''s!" She said, starting to make braids. Pigtails! Silva dodged him easily, shoving his foot gently (for him) at the boy''s back to throw him off balance. "Slow AND weak... Boy, if you want to talk as big as you do, you need to learn to back it up." He drawled. He stumbled: he used the momentum to push himself around, hands on the floor, pushing himself back to career right into Silva''s back. He was worse than weak; he was slow as hell. However, Casca knew one thing, and that was God or the Devil loved him, because he was lucky. He didn''t want to win. He just wanted the hurt. Him or Silva''s, Casca didn''t give a damn. "I always back it up," he murmured: and he was damn small, which sucked, but there was a lot of Silva. His hand shot out with the cigarette from his mouth and planted the burning end firmly into the other Feien''s lower back. Burgundia was giggling again: a bit like she''d never giggled properly before, which she hadn''t. Soho was more than a little infectious. And her small hands tickled. "Well, I do try to keep it nice," she admitted "So who have you met out in the big ole wide world, Ruby?" "Not many people. There''s Mister Silva Demon. He was the first person I EVER met! And I wouldn''t let him go, so he wound up taking me to his bed and I slept there, but he slept longer and his arm is reeeeallly heavy, so Ice had to help me get up." She took a breath. "And I''ve met Ice, she''s real nice! she''s my bond. And Aleric and Nick and Nack, they''re hiding in Ice''s room because they say they''re freaks, and Sunil and Hitomi and you and Casca!" She finished happily. Silva cursed, whirling around and hitting out, hard. His forearm was even with the boy''s head, so it would hit him in the temple. "Silva! Don''t!" Aleric shouted, too late. Dee''''s opinion of Silva softened: obviously he was not such a bad father if he was affectionate towards Soho, though in her biased opinion everybody on God''''s green earth would probably be affectionate towards Soho given ten seconds'''' worth of chance. At least she had an, um, varied home life. "God love you, Ruby, you do have a lot of people. It sure is kind of lonely back where I come from," she said wistfully. "Apparently there''''s another Feien called Simon who lives there but I haven''''t ever clapped eyes on him, and I''''ve heard all about Corvus but nobody seems to know where he is, so it''''s just me and Casca. I suppose I should be thankful. Gives me a lot of time to have beauty naps and contemplate God. I need a lot of beauty sleep, you see, on account of being pretty." The last was possibly Burgundia''''s First And Incredibly Lame Joke, and was accompanied by another giggle. Silva''''s blow was more than glancing. Stunned, the juvie flew down hard into the surface of the table, probably concussed: it took him a moment, but he staggered to his feet again, more out of gut masochism than any kind of stamina. He was grinning now, hat having fallen off long ago. His eyes were unfocused. Casca staggered forward like a zombie, picking up his icicle where it had rolled away, heaving himself back towards the adult with a sad kind of inevitability. He was no match for Silva. "You hit hard, ********," was all he said, jaunty, and then it began all over again. Aleric rushed to grab the juvenile male before he wound up getting himself killed. He ignored the coldness of the child, his resistance was pretty good. "You will wind up dying." He said calmly. "And death is far too easy of a way out." "Listen to the old man, boy." Silva drawled. "You''re not even an adult yet. You''ve got plenty more ******** to make." Soho cocked her head, then hugged her sister from behind. "You can come over any time you want!" She said happily. "Now tell me about all the feien you''ve met! You''ve surely been around longer than I have!" Casca struggled for a moment, an object in motion, trying to get out of Aleric''s grip; but then he stopped, head hanging down, an impressive bruise already beginning to form at his hairline. "You would have been doing me a favour, darling," he said, trying to catch his breath still. "You probably would have been doing the whole wide world a favour. Que sera sera, I suppose. Thank you kindly - " That was towards Aleric, now, blankly. "Thank you." Burgundia thought about it, leaning back so that her hands were propping her up and her head was dipped back closer to Soho. "Well," she drawled eventually. "I met a couple, I guess. I met Valsharess a little, only if you''d believe it I didn''t meet her much because she was getting all cozy with my brother five minutes in, and I wouldn''t say anything bad about her only that struck me as a bit brazen, and her brother Rurik - oh, God help me, darlin'', but he''s a mean low-down evil thing. Don''t you go near him, he''s a little wretch." "Really?" Soho asked, almost tasting a story. "What did he do? Did he attack you?" She asked. Aleric reached up, healing the juvenile''s bruise. "I take that to mean you won''t attack my brother again?" He asked, not letting go. "I ask for your sake more than his." Silva watched silently, reaching behind him to heal the burn as he chewed on his toothpick. "He did," her sister said, still indignant with the memory. "First off he was sayin'' all kinds of vile things - swearing and carrying on and just making me mad. Now, I''m just a tiny itty-bitty thing, so I gave him a little whop through the face, I admit it - a girl slap just to show him he had no manners. I have tiny liddle hands, wouldn''t hurt a fly. But he goes and chunks me right back. I hate him soo-ooo-ooo badly." Cascati looked up at Aleric, skin tingling faintly as it was healed by the life feien; his eyes uncrossed, crossed again, and then went back to normal. "Not at present," he said. "Cross my heart and hope to die, stick a needle in my eye, etcetera, etcetera. Besides, it''s such an ignominous place to die, on a picnic table." "I can''t believe that anyone would do that to you!" Soho said. "This Rurik person sounds like he needs to meet my Mister Silva Demon." She said, nodding. Oh what a story THAT would make! The ironic thing was that there was a gigantic story going on right beside her and she was too focused on her sister to notice! "Good point, boy." Silva said. He dropped down to the table, slipping his staff back into its place on his back and heading for the drinks. "There are much better places to die." He made himself a cup of cherry coke. Aleric let go, moving back in respect of personal space. "And much better things to die for." He added. "You think Mr. Silva would show him what''s what?" The idea was vaguely enchanting. "See, I''d surely give him sump''n sump''n Clorox wouldn''t wash off, only I''m just a lady and I shouldn''t dirty my hands on him anyway. He''s just a little so-and-so. I''ll make sure he never comes near you, that''s for sure." Cascati tried to think of good things to die for. It was a difficult list. "Drugs, sex and rock''n''roll?" he volunteered. The hat was put back on on his head, and once more he was the wildly homosexual cowboy of the west. "Maybe a little less of the rock''n''roll?" "Friends, family, and beliefs more likely." Aleric said, trying not to be amused. "But sex rates pretty high up there." Silva drawled before gulping down his drink. Soho nodded. "Mister Silva won''t let anyone hurt me, either. All he does is train and fight and fight and train, but I can get him to cuddle every once in a while! But he doesn''t know it''s cuddling, he thinks I''m just too tired to walk. Which I usually am. I get tired real easily." "Nobody ever votes for the drugs or the rock''n''roll." Casca gave both adults one of his star-bright grins. "Glad to see you two in agreement, darlings, even if you''re faintly the Odd Couple." Or more like Will and Grace. "You get tired because you''re little," Burgundia was saying with the affectionate superiority of a juvenile who hasn''t been out of the blossom that much longer. "You''ll get tired less when you grow a little, Ruby. ''Course, I guess then you''ll have to figure out another way of getting cuddles. Probably by that time he''ll give you cuddles anyway. You''re so cute." Soho grinned widely. "I hope so! I like being cuddled." she said with a nod. She rustled her wings happily, enjoying the ego stroking as much as she usually did. "Done!" she said, finishing off the second braid. "We need something to show your reflection..." She said thoughtfully. Silva dropped down on the table, sprawling slightly. He had no comment on the relationship between Aleric and himself. It was something he didn''t often put too much thought into. "So your new... sister... How crazy is she?" He asked Casca. Burgundia shook her head, feeling the braids swing and hit her ears; she turned to smile at Soho, face lighting up, immediately searching out something that would be appropriately reflective. Thankfully, in-between all of the plastic things there was a metal serving spoon: she immediately stood to toddle over to it, peering into the convex side. "Oh, just look! That''s so pretty!" She shook her head again, watching them swing interestedly. "Oh, they''re darlin''. I''m going to ask you to do this at least once a week. I love it. It''s sure as sure cute." Soho was immediately enveloped in a divehug. "I''m so glad you''re my sister!" Cascati was dispassionately watching these antics, flopping down and propping himself up on his elbows to watch. "Dee? On a scale of one to ten, she''s at least seven," he said. "And she rockets all the way up to eleven if you say ''God''. Pretty much mad as a hatter, darling. Seems to get on well with Soho, though." "Huh." Silva said. "She''s harmless and quite sweet." Aleric said. "And they truly seem to adore each other." He added. "That''s what you''re picking up?" Silva asked. He had pretty much figured out what the older man had. Some form of empathy if his list of spells was right. Aleric nodded, smiling slightly as he watched the pair. "Soho is very accepting. I doubt that Dee''s more... interesting beliefs will bother her in the least." Soho hugged her back. "You''re a great sister Dee! And next time we''ll have real mirrors to look in and pretty things to put in our hair!" She said, already making plans. "We will," Burgundia agreed stoutly. "We surely will. Oh - oh, I nearly forgot! I''m dumb as a box of hair." In the little pocket at the side of the dress, she pulled out a tiny braided bracelet: it was made of embroidery floss in red, white and black. "Rose showed me how to make this," she said, very near shyly. "I made it for you. It''s a friendship bracelet, you see. Also, it''ll look real pretty on you, it''s your colours." "She''s batshit," Casca was saying comfortably. "Believe me. B-A-T-S-H-I-T. She managed to go and smack Rurik in the face - although, all right, he''s a little tit - in about five minutes of meeting him, shrieking her head off. And that accent is, my dears, driving me bananas." Silva choked, then started to laugh. "She hits a guy and has an accent." He said after calming down. "Hell, sounds fine to me." Aleric shook his head. "From her account, he hit her back." He said calmly. Silva''s jaw snapped shut and he looked at him. "Was it a spar?" Silva asked Casca. "It''s perfect!" Soho said, hugging her sister again before taking the bracelet. She put it on her uncolored hand, admiring it. "How does it look? Now I''ve got something from Mister Silva Demon AND my sister!" She paused. "I didn''t get you anything... but..." She rustled her feathers and one little red feather fell to the ground. "You can have my feather!" She said, picking it up and offering it to Dee. Casca burst out laughing at that. "Like hell. She made her getaway after that, darling, believe me. Rurik hit her hard. She likes to pretend she''s all ladylike and too sweet to hit things, but she''s been going around muttering his name psychotically and smacking things with cold water. Drives my sweet Rose nuts. Pity," he said nostalgically after a while. "I was never that interested in spells. Oh, well. Maybe they''ll kill each other. Le sigh; I can only hope." "I''ll keep it for-ever," Dee promised Soho gravely, and tucked it in her pocket. "My favourite colour''s red, you know. And that''s what my name means. Burgundia. Red." Soho giggled. "So does mine!" Silva snorted. "Still, hitting a girl..." He drawled, his eyes closing slightly. "We should probably keep Soho away from him. Killing juveniles isn''t a habit I want to get into. Something tells me it might be hard to break." "I had thought that already." Aleric said. "I know, it''s surely what I told Mr. Aleric the first time ''round we bumped into each other," Burgundia said smugly. She took Ruby''s hands again in her own and squeezed them. "We match just neat and nice. I just love that. It means something. It''s karma. I had a good feeling the moment I saw your bloom." "I''m sure there''s an anonymous help group for that," Casca yawned, stretching out on the picnic table: he still ached and the sun helped. "Nobody in the world would miss Rurik. He yells like a girl." Never mind that he had an attractive sister. "It''s so convenient with feien. Just dump the gemstone somewhere and claim that you last saw him taking a fast train to New York." "You really think I would bother?" Silva asked. "Too much time spent trying to cover s**t up takes away from time better spent doing new s**t." The kid was bloodthirsty for someone that couldn''t actually do anything about it... "Besides, jackasses tend to get themselves killed long before I have to do it." He expected Casca to do himself in any moment. "Yelling like a girl is not a reason to kill someone. And hitting a girl is merely a reason to teach him better manners." Aleric said calmly. "We''re the red sisters!" Soho said happily. "Now we just need a sister named Scarlet and we''ll be the red trio!" Cascati shrugged his shoulders languidly. "I suppose he''ll get himself commended to the earth eventually. I''m not too fussed." So long as any visits to Valsharess were Rurik-free, Rurik could do whatever the hell he wanted in Casca''s book. He tipped his cowboy hat over his face. "Anyway, like I''d commit murder, sweetlings. I''m little and cute and a sweet little juvie. No?" "Just so long as I have you, I don''t need any other sisters," Burgundia said with almost hilarious seriousness. "We already have two real brothers - they haven''t been transferred yet; Bassus and Boethius. But I guess I already like you best, Ruby. Will your papas let you visit sometime? My bondmate would like you real well, I surely do promise. So I can visit you half the time and you can visit me half the time, it''d be so fiii-iiiine." "Sure they would!" Soho said happily. "You''re my most favoritist only sister I''ve ever had!" She said happily. "We''ve got brothers?" she asked. "Do you know them?" "You''re about as sweet as a wolverine." Silva drawled. "And completely full of s**t." Aleric sighed, shaking his head. Of course, so far Burgundia was the only sister Soho had ever had, but she still beamed and dimpled. "Why, I do. We knew each other back at the Fleet. I haven''t seen them since I was transferred, though, so their memories might''ve been erased when they finally get their itty-bitty selves over here; but I''ll surely introduce your ownself to them." "Stop flirting," Casca was saying, face muffled by his hat. "I can''t take it any more, darling, it just gets me too het up. Isn''t his passion for me just so obvious, Aleric-honey?" Wisely not waiting for an answer, he sat up, hat falling off as he squinted over at his sister. "Dee-dear, are you quite finished?" Burgundia sniffed and shook her pigtails indignantly, which shivered down her back. "I''ll have you know Ruby and I are most intimate bosom sisters and I''ll never be quite finished as long as I ever live and it''s most terribly rude to try to - " Her brother cut off rising histrionics early on. "I''ll take that as a yes, darling, say your goodbyes." He propped himself up on his elbows, voice lowering. "Sweet Rose always has us on a specific schedule. She thinks somebody will sit on Burgundia. Probably me, considering." "Awww!" Soho said, pouting for a second. "But I''ll find lots of pretty things to put in our hair next time!" She said, hugging her sister once again and kissing her on the cheek. "And we''ll have even more to talk about the next time we see each other!" She said happily. "You sure I can''t kill him?" Silva asked Aleric. "It would be lacking in honor to kill someone that defenseless." Aleric said. "And most likely lacking in sport, as well." "Good point." Silva said. "Silva-darling wants to strangle me intimately," Cascati remarked, cat-stretching as he picked up his hat. Burgundia, deeply pouty, was hugging Soho back and kissing her on both her cheeks before regretfully stepping away and walking back to her brother. "It''d be a special experience for both of us." "It was surely nice seeing you again, Mr. Aleric," Dee said, more than faintly doleful. She curtseyed to both adult Feien before taking Casca''s outstretched arm, hooking herself into it with downcast eyes. "I''m sure I''ll see you in the future; I''d like to see Ruby often as I can. Goodbye, Mr. Silva. God surely bless you both." Mis-tah Silva. "Don''t do anything I wouldn''t do," Casca told both languidly, and blew one more kiss to Soho by way of goodbye; Burgundia did it too, waving eagerly at her sister, before Casca tipped his hat and both left the backyard. Soho promptly went over to Silva and crawled into his lap as soon as they were out of sight. "I made another friend!" She told both males happily. She leaned against Silva''s chest, completely ignoring the way he was still twitching from Cascati''s visit, and wrapped her arms around his waist, sighing happily. "I''m tired again." Aleric looked at Silva, then shook his head and headed for the fruit tray to get something to eat.

The lights flickered, then went out. Silva pushed the on button on the remote he was sitting with. Nothing happened, so he got to his feet and looked around. Aleric folded the corner of his book and floated over to the candle, his book under his arm. He proceeded to light the candle with a nearby lighter and went right back to reading.
But Soho... "What happened to my computer?!" she asked. She was shaking slightly as she pushed the start button again... and again. "I need my stories!!" She yowled. She had found reading stories on the computer was a lot easier for her than reading books like Aleric did. And she always had music playing in the background. Having the song end halfway through was close to traumatizing for her. Now it would be stuck in her head for the rest of the day!
"Power's out, darlin." Silva's voice said. He was nowhere to be seen, even with the candle lighting some part of the room. "You just have to wait till it comes back."
"Bu--but--"
"Perhaps you should work on your magic." Aleric said, glancing up from his book. "You haven't done that yet, have you?"
"But--"
"Flying doesn't count." Silva told her ruthlessly. He didn't mention how much trouble he had had learning. "You're an earth element. You should have some decent tricks under your belt."
"I don't even HAVE a belt!" She protested. "And how can I work on my magic when I can't even see?"
"Magic works better when you can't see." Silva's voice was right next to her ear and she yelped, looking behind her blindly. He was nowhere to be seen, but when she reached out her hand touched his thigh. "Now sit down darlin, and close your eyes."
"Mis--Mister Silva Demon?" She asked, sitting down automatically. "Are you sure this is a good idea?"
Aleric hesitated as well. Silva was up to something, but it wasn't dangerous to the child... at least not so far as Silva was concerned. If anything he was just giving the girl a scare. He sighed and took to the air, hesitantly heading towards them, using their magic signals as a guide.
"Now focus inwards." Silva was drawling. Aleric dropped down next to him, falling silent.
"But I don't--"
"Inwards, Ruby." Silva's voice was cold. "Find your center. There's something you're damn well going to learn."
"What would that be?" Aleric asked softly. He didn't have the same preoccupation with spells that Silva did.
"She'll figure it out." Silva said.
Soho grumbled, crossing her arms and pouting as she reluctantly tried to focus inwards. Boooorrrinnng! She didn't know what he thought she was looking for, but--
"Focus, Ruby." Silva growled.
"Can we at least have some music in the background?" She pouted.
"I'm afraid we don't have any power." Aleric said, dropping down next to her. "But I'll join you." He told her, easily finding his center.
"And Mister Silva Demon?" She asked, looking upwards blindly.
"I found my center a long time ago, little girl." he told her, not moving from where he was. "If you do this you'll figure out how to last longer." He said.
"Really? So I won't get tired in the middle of dancing?" she asked, perking up quickly.
"That's right."
Soho focused.

"I think..." Soho said after nearly ten minutes of looking for her center. The entire group was astonished she had lasted that long.
"Hmm?" Aleric asked, opening his eyes to look at her. He had grown accustomed to the darkness, he thought. "What do you think Soho?"
"I think that..." She started out again. "I'm hungry! Do we have anything to eat?"
They sweatdropped.
"Oh and I think I found it." She added as she got to her feet and stretched. "It's kind of a glowy sensation, right? In your belly?" She poked her belly. "Or that might just be hunger, I'm not sure."
"Try doing something, darlin." Silva said. "Focus on hardening your skin."
"But I like my skin soft!" She replied, outraged by the very suggestion. She ran a hand down her side. "It feels good!"
"Good lord, we've created a Lolita..." Nack said softly. Nick nodded, practically drooling.
"It won't stay that way." Silva said. "Just do it."
"Awww..." She said, dropping down on the ground again and starting to concentrate. Her stomach grumbled. "I'm too hungry!" She complained, jumping to her feet again. "Nick? Nack? Get me some food?" She begged.
Silva shook his head, rubbing the bridge of his nose. She was in one of her moods again...
"I do believe we've spoiled her." Aleric said.
"What gave you that idea?" Silva drawled sarcastically. "Make her get her own food, boys." He called as he noticed Nick and Nack already heading for the door. "She's a big girl now. She can do things for herself."
"But Mister Silva Demon--" Soho started out, only to freeze as his eyes focused on her, gleaming in the darkness. She pouted all the way to the kitchen.

"I don't like it." Soho said, looking oddly serious as she glared up at the two males in her life. "I don't like that spell at all."
"There's another way." Aleric said, making Silva glance over at him. "You never think about it because your wings are large enough to support you during flight. Mine aren't." He flapped his wings once, smiling ruefully as all it did was kick up some dust. "Use your magic to fly. Don't even move your wings."
Soho blinked. "Are you sure?"
"I'm sure. I can fly, can't I?"
"Oh..." She nodded, closing her eyes and focusing on flying.
Silva snorted, his eyes traveling over the room, landing on the closet door. He was getting sick of this. Sick and tired of the mind-numbing domesticated feeling. Sick of the feeling that he was a "Family man" now. And sick as hell of biting back anger every time he turned around.
He needed to get out of there, dammit. And the sooner the better.
"I'm doing it, Aleric! I'm doing it!" Soho chirped happily. "Look Mister Silva Demon! No wings!"
Silva grunted, barely registering her voice. What about Soho? His mind asked him. You lost one girl this way already... always running off and doing stupid s**t...
Soho would just have to deal with it.
And what about Ice? She told you to guard the girl...
Ice could jump off a cliff for all he cared. Soho was HER bond, not his.
You're just running away from commitment ******** off. Silva looked over at Aleric, not surprised to see the other male looking at him.
"So when are you leaving?" Aleric asked softly as Soho zoomed around the room happily.
"Soon." He replied before glancing up at Soho. "Don't let her follow."
"I don't aim to." Aleric said. Then he hesitated. "I was thinking... That we might all go on a quest together."
"Instead of me running away?" Silva asked.
"I saw one that might appeal to you at the shop. But it might be too dangerous for Soho..." Aleric said. "We would head up to New York to find a flute. We'd have to fight off a few rabid animals, but..."
"You remember what happened that night." Silva drawled. "She won't be around when it happens again."
"Maybe you can learn to control it. It hasn't happened since then, has it?"
Silva just looked at him.
"Has it?" Aleric repeated, starting to worry.
"I'll be back in a few weeks at most." Silva said, heading for his garden. "Try to keep the kid from killing herself while I'm gone." He grabbed his pack, stowing some food into it, then headed for the door.
"Mister Silva Demon?" Soho asked from mid-air. "Where are you--"
The door closed (almost) behind him.
"Mister Silva Demon?" Soho repeated. She felt abandoned for some reason. "Where did he go?"
"I'm not sure, Soho."
"But--but why didn't he take us with him?" She asked, tears threatening to fall. "He always takes me with him..." She sniffled and Aleric took to the air, wrapping his arms around her and pulling her into a hug.
"Not to where he's going, Soho. But he'll be back. He always comes back." Aleric said, looking at the door for a good long moment. He hoped he would come back.
