Nanu sliped into the room closing the door behind her. She then bowed "My pharoh I need to speak with you...."

Atem's eyes snapped open and he looked at Nanu, taking a moment to place who she was. Just a servant, or...? "What is it? Is Amenitre okay?" He only knew Nanu for being the servant who cared for Amenitre.

"Amenitre is fine." She took a step foward before letting out a breath. "Priest seto ordered me to poison bakura and rei..." she said hoping she got the names right "He said if I did not He would kill me....I fear for my life but I do not wish to kill them." She said. You could tell she was scared and nervous "I...I don't know what to do my pharoh..." she said bowing to him once more.

Atem's face remained, for the most part, expressionless. He sighed heavily, getting to his feet. "I see... I suppose I'll have to deal with him... in a more permanent way." He rubbed the bridge of his nose. "For now, though, you stay with me. Seto wouldn't try anything when I'm around. I'm going to go see our guests first."

Bakura opened his eyes, trying to sit up immediately. "I hate when that happens..." He muttered hoarsely, gingerly touching the back of his head.

"Yes pharoh" she said bowing and following him as he left.

"You need to relax." rei said having just got the children to sleep. "Nanu fixed your wound...." she said moving beside him.

"Who the <********> is that?" Bakura pushed himself up, then scooted backwards so that his back was against the wall. There wasn't much time for an answer, because there was a knock on the door shortly after.

Atem wasn't really a person to wait, so he opened the door after knocking, hoping that the two were decent. Bakura didn't seem too pleased to see him, but then again, Bakura never seemed too pleased to see him. "I hope you find the room comfortable." Atem said, his voice slightly scratchy from all the shouting he had done minutes earlier.

"her." Rei said simply as nanu steped in beside atem. Nanu wasquiet her hands clasped infront of her.

Kek had started to whine when he sawatem and rei gently bounced him. She dident want him to start crying "there there" she said softly to kek.

Bakura didn't answer the question, but that was fine, since Atem didn't waste much time with small talk. Clearing his throat, he crossed his arms over his chest. "Seto may be trying to poison you. He threatened Nanu to do so. Just a heads up."

"What?!" Bakura's interest was piqued at that. An angry look flashed in his eyes. Atem scowled slightly at Bakura, even though his reaction was to be expected.

"I think I explained myself clearly. Nanu just told me that Seto told her to poison your food or else he would kill her. I'm not going to let him do that, but it doesn't mean he won't try to recruit one of my other servants whose morals aren't as good as hers." Atem shifted his weight to the other foot. He was keeping a tally in his head, of words Bakura said to him. So far, the total was three, none of which had even been complete sentences. That irked him, seeing as he had been so generous. "I would recommend borrowing a servant. Perhaps Nanu here." Atem gestured towards the girl. "To test your food for you to make sure it isn't poisoned."

Bakura closed his eyes. "You would give up a servant, just like that? It would be easier to let us go, where we'd make our own food and not have to put up with this crap." He looked startled when Atem suddenly began to applaud. "The hell...?"

"You actually said a full sentence! Two, no less!" Atem said, beaming at Bakura. "I was starting to wonder if you could only give one-word answers." He then became serious again, going into pharaoh-mode. "But, anyway... perhaps we should talk elsewhere." He could tell that his presence around the children wasn't very good, for whatever reason. "Nanu, you stay here." He was just going to go out in the hallway.

[I'll just write out a big conversation if you're leaving...]

Bakura pried Femi off and handed her to Rei. "I'll be back soon, I guess..."

Bakura and Atem left, but didn't go far. Bakura leaned against the wall a few yards away from the door, which Atem had shut behind him as he had left. Bakura shut his eyes for a few moments, glad to be gone from all the commotion. He realized that he was starting to go crazy-- well, crazier than he normally was. Maybe it was because of the hit on his head.

Atem waited a moment for Bakura to open his eyes. Something seemed completely different about the thief, but he couldn't explain it. He wasn't the same psychopath who was always coming up with new, inventive ways to kill him. He wasn't cussing so much, if you could believe it. He seemed much calmer. This seemed to be an impossible change from when Atem had seen Bakura a few days ago. And when did he get a wife, and kids? It seemed to surreal, and Atem was dying to know what was going on.

"You aren't going to kill the priest, are you?" Bakura asked with a heavy sigh, looking the pharaoh in the eye. Even though he was leaning against the wall, much shorter than normal, he and the pharaoh were eye-to-eye. "No. I can tell. You're going to scold him and perhaps watch him a hell of a lot more closely, but you're too soft to actually get the little rat out of the way. I mean, why not? He's been loyal to you before. All he wants is what's best for you." Bakura smiled slyly, his eyes narrowing slightly. "You and your damn feelings. If you weren't such a soft pharaoh, you could do what's best for your kingdom and get rid of me, seeing as I've been a 'threat' to your people before."

"Well, is it so wrong of me?" Atem was on guard-- it wasn't anything like Bakura to be talking like this, almost like they were having an actual conversation. "I mean, a person like yourself can have a change of heart. All I have to do is make sure you mean it. And I mean really mean it. Being a thief, you probably know how to deceive others-- which means that you'll probably stay here longer. I'm not falling for any tricks, you know."

"Why would I trick you? I get what you're saying. So there really is no reason in me tricking you. All I want to do is leave this place-- with my family, of course." Bakura spoke earnestly, which was something he rarely did. He couldn't remember a single time he had done so in front of the pharaoh. "And, honestly, I'm the one who has to worry. You seem to think that, because you're the pharaoh, you have utter control over what goes. You've deceived me far more times than I have you, at least in major ways."

Atem looked genuinely confused for a moment. What on earth was he talking about? He couldn't remember purposefully lying or fooling Bakura. Certainly not to the extent that the thief was talking about. "I don't know what you mean. What situations are you describing?" He asked, pressing for more information. He didn't get the sad little smile that came over Bakura's face.

"Oh, never mind..." Bakura knew that he should've been more careful in bringing up things that happened before-- things that the pharaoh didn't remember. He knew now why Rei seemed so frustrated when he had first met her. She had known all along what kind of person he really was, but she had to go through the trouble of making his stubborn self accept that. It was fun to tease the pharaoh, though; to confuse him by acting mysterious. He decided to change the conversation, though, to throw Atem off track. "Look, pharaoh... I'm going to tell you once. Do not put me or Rei in chains again. Though I hate to say it, I'm taking your word that we'll be treated like guests. I don't want any dirty looks from your priests and servants, I don't want to be moved in the dungeons, I don't want you to act like I owe you anything."

"Fine. But I have some requirements for you as well." Atem felt more comfortable in talking about things he fully knew about. "I don't want you threatening anybody in my palace-- or outside of it. You are not to take advantage of anybody. You are not to leave the palace unless I let you-- if you do run away, all bets are off. I'm going to go with the priests' decisions on what to do with you and your family. You already know what Seto's is, and I can tell you, that the others' are probably the same." Atem ticked the things off on his fingers as he spoke, not looking at Bakura. "You are not to speak to my daughter--"

"What?!" Bakura couldn't help but explode slightly at this. It was such a minor thing, but he didn't like being banned from speaking to someone. Especially if that someone was a person who, not that long ago (in his mind, anyway), was been parading around, telling anyone she could how they were going to get married. And only to end up dead not a week later. He had tried not to show much emotion at seeing Mkhait, but he couldn't help but feel so happy when he found that she was not only alive, but exactly as he had remembered. To have that taken away...

Atem jumped. He didn't know why Bakura reacted so strongly to the last thing he said, but the thief stared off into space for a few moments, as though remembering something sad. Atem grew extremely agitated when he saw-- or could've sworn he saw-- tears in Bakura's eyes. He became suspicious. Amenitre hadn't acted much differently than she would towards any guest, but Bakura obviously felt something stronger than that. "Why do you care so much?"

"s**t." Bakura placed one hand over his eyes, bowing his head slightly. "Nothing. Never mind. I just..." He couldn't explain it. Or could he? If he could come up with a lie fast enough... "I... I had a sister. When I was a kid. She was about your daughter's age when she died, and... Mkh-- I mean, Amenitre-- reminds me of her. I don't know why."

Atem didn't really buy it, but decided to shrug it off for now. He'd just have to keep an eye on Amenitre. "Right. So, anyway, the last thing-- stop calling me 'pharaoh'." Bakura looked up, mildly confused. "I mean, stop saying it with that tone. Pharaoh is a title of respect. You make it sound like an insult. Great Pharaoh, Pharaoh Atem, or even just Atem is fine. I'm sick of you sneering at me."

"My deepest apologies... Great Pharaoh." Bakura said, with a smirk. Even with an extra word added to the title, he could still make it sound insulting. He sure as hell wasn't going to start calling him 'Atem'. "I didn't realize that you were such a wuss when it came to your feelings being hurt."

Atem smiled, patting Bakura on the head. "There, there. You'll get used to it." He said, partly relieved to have the 'old' Bakura come out again. It felt so awkward to see Bakura getting almost emotional. He had just added the name thing on as a second thought-- just to see if he could pry a reaction from Bakura. He was quite glad to see that it worked. "Now, that's all I have to say to you. You and your wife looked rather ragged. Would you like me to get some servants to take you to the bathing room? You can get some... ah... fresh clothes."

Bakura saw that Atem was looking pointedly at his fed jacket. He hugged it tighter to his body. "What I'd really like is some jeans. Funny, the things you miss. I never liked them initially, but when you find out you've been wearing a skirt all your life, it makes you reconsider your fashion choices..." Bakura muttered to himself, brushing some dust off of his kilt. In the modern world, it had taken him a while to get used to some of the changes in what he wore.

Of course, this all just went over Atem's head. "Uh, right. If you didn't already notice, there was some scented oil by the bed, in case you decide against a bath." The oil was, of course, what the Egyptians used in the place of deodorant, seeing as they didn't have any. In another time, however, Atem had chosen to use that certain type of oil as a lubricant instead.

"No!" Bakura hissed, grinding his teeth together. Again, this was a strong reaction that Atem hadn't expected. "That was another thing I meant to say. I want that taken out of the room. I'm not going to have a convenient little bowl of that s**t right there, for whenever you decide to--" Bakura cut himself off, knowing that he was going too far. He looked away, controlling himself. He had better make sure that nothing of a similar nature of what happened before was going to happen again, though. He looked up at Atem, glaring fiercely. "Answer me. The truth. Do you..." It was hard for Bakura to say, and his voice dropped down into a whisper. He felt embarrassed, though he knew he shouldn't be. He finished his question in a voice so quiet that Atem had to lean in slightly to hear.
