Nopenname I had a friend introduce me to the OT when I was in sixth grade and it was our thing, we knew a lot about the world and it's really pivitol for my development as a fantasy/sci-fi writer (That and the Belgriad by David Eddings and the Magic Kingdom series by Terry Brooks). I mean I'm a Star Wars geek...seriously. I'm not bashing SW geeks in general, just the seriously scary ones. I mean the really REALLY scary ones who can't differentiate between reality and the SW universe. Nopenname I do think a lot of fans over emotionalize the OT. Because when looked at with a critical eye I mean George Lucas has been doing the SAME s**t from the beginning. I mean everyone flipped over JarJar as being total cheese...but I mean come on EWOKS? really think about it? We had a huge dark movie in Empire and then all of a sudden we're all cute and cuddly and beating up storm troopers with sticks and rocks. Storm troopers who in this next movie will probably be handing it to Jedi and Wookies but can't take some damn ewoks. The furballs killed the storm troopers with their high level cutie attack! Nopenname All I'm saying is I like the movies, I like all of them, one and two didn't bother me, in fact in my opinon 25 minutes of that film from the part where Mace Windu says "This party is over" and light sabers light up across the colluseum is THE best 25 minutes in all of the SWs movies seeing all the Jedi ignite their light sabers made me giddy. I think three will be even better because all of our exposition and "Oh is he REALLY evil or is it just teen angst" bs will be out of the way and we can get down to the Obi-Wan/Darth dueling. Also I'm excited to see how Amidala and Anikin's relationship plays out because we all know she hid the twins from him, but I mean she loves him...so that'll be neat if they handle that tension right. Ok, I'll admit that scene kicked some serious a**. There were parts of the movies I enjoyed, Yoda flying around like an armed frog on crack being one of them. But the rest to me was the ultimate snore fest. Nopenname (Tet the OT originally came out labled as Episode IV V and VI ) Yeah, I know. I guess I was hoping it would be more than a cg nightmare.

Wasn't the Ewok race created because Lucas originally wanted Wookies to be the downfall of the Empire, but Chewie, even though a simple one, became too complex of a character (hard to keep a character undeveloped through three films)? I was thinking that they changed the numbers circa 1998 when they rerelased them and added some CG. Guess I was incorrect.

redface Well I'm one of those "scary SW fans" so I'm going to keep my mouth shut. If I had a costume (which I'm working on one) I'd go to the movie in costume.
I absolutely LOVE SW. I love the OT, yes, will always be the best, but the prequels weren't released first because the OT is a better story. I enjoy anything SW, even when people can be critical of it. It's just a passion I enjoy with my husband.
I LOVE the Ewoks and I know for a fact I'm the only one. But there's a beautiful line in one of the SW Tales comic series called "Apoclypse Endor" where (I'm paraphrasing) a guy's like "You guys had blasters, armor, AT-STs, etc. What did the Ewoks have? Pointy sticks and happy songs." I guess I just enjoy it too much to let things bother me. I just love it so much and it's something Logan shares too.
I will say that later on the stormtroopers started to suck. With the death of the primary person for cloning, sample and DNA run short and stuff and sometimes you end up with horrible people picked for cloning to compensate for the shortage.
Of course, I read the Insider for some great answers to questions.
Lemme put it this way, I DANCED for joy in the Walmart when I found a rare figure. Danced like a maniac.
I can't wait to get the M&M M-pire stuff. That and the bedsheets for Logan's room. I went to the boys section of Walmart and bought shirts for me and Logan, loads of fun!!

Who mentioned Terry Brooks 'Magic Kingdom' series? I enjoyed reading his lighter reading (and compared to the Shannara series it is light), along with the whole 'Running with Demons' set. All the reviews I have read for the Hitchhiker's Guide have said the movie was an insult to Douglas Adams...hopefully I shall find out for myself.
Does anyone else remember when adult tickets were around $3.50? When we lived in Kansas, my parents took us to see the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Movie and kids six and under got in free, and adult tickets were $3.50.

I'm a bit scared to see HGTTG because I LOVE the books to death...but Alan Rickman as Martin is just too intriguing *-*
Movies always are an insult to the book: you just can't get around that. xP

lunashock redface Well I'm one of those "scary SW fans" so I'm going to keep my mouth shut. If I had a costume (which I'm working on one) I'd go to the movie in costume. I should have been more specific when I said "scary SW fans." Wearing a costume to the opening of a movie doesn't bother me. Hell I tend to look like an extra for Blade whenever I go to a vampy movie so who am I to b***h. By the way, it's my normal 'going out' wardrobe. lol. The fan types that scare me are the ones that dress as Luke or Hans to go grocery shopping and totally give up any sense of normalcy and reality to live in the SW universe they've created in their own little minds. The ones who are always convinced that Darth is actually lurking in their closets desperate to turn them to the dark side. THOSE are the fans that scare me. Rabid SW fans rate right up there with rabid fan girls to me. Sorry if I offended anyone.

I'm not a scary fan but I do enjoy the movies very much....I am alot like you, Luna, it doesnt matter to me what people are passionate about, it's interesting to hear what they have to say. I LOVE the ewoks too though JarJar did get on my nerves toward the end of the movie. I also love to watch all the fan produced stories and such. You know, one of my favorite things is the storm trooper "cops" footage....that just cracked me up, now when I am trying to watch the scene when Han, Luke and Leia are trying to get to the Falcon and all the Storm Troopers are firing at them and running around, I can just hear those helmet muted voices saying crazy stuff! I am just amazed everytime I see the first 3 at how, even with the incredible technology we have and the special effects we have grown to expect from movies, they still rock!!

I'm sorry that we offended anyone, I guess some of us just got carried away because we were feeling like we were the only ones that felt a certain way. I actually enjoy seeing people get really into something, b/c that is just the opposite of what I am. (Though I would have to say that if I had an Orc costume I probably would have worn that to LOTR.) (pss... get pictures and post) Out of blockbusters, I usually have to say that the marketing is the best part of the whole movie, usually.

Well, I would say i'm not as much as a fan as Luna probably is. I could say i am that big of a fan of LOTR>.. lol.. but, even so, I still really do enjoy the star wars movies. I grew up with these movies. My sweetie likes them.. naaman really doesn't have any itnerest in movies..
Luna i have a question, you pick up the season one of Clone Wars yet? I been trying to find someone i know who has bought it so i can borrow it. Not that i'm asking to borrow from you guys.. i just figured one fo the guys at my work would have gotten it and they didn't. been to all the local video stores adn noone is stocking it. i might have to buy it..
after the movies, i'm gonna go read all the star wars books.. i was gonna do it already; however, i didn't want any of what i read to ruin my movie experience.
cuz, while LOTR was for the most part well done, the last movie he just entirely cut out a bunch of parts that I felt were really important in teh books. and i am soo freaking pissed that he didn't even film it because he felt it was unimportant.. didn't even film it for the EDE... >:{ as based on that experience of my favorite books/movies not living up to what i thougth it should have been.. [i mean, i am also saying that they did a good job at an adaption as hollywood usually craps on them] still.. i don't want to chance the same with star wars. so, i got my tickets.. did i say that already? lol... and my sweetie has a force FX lightsaber.. mace windu's.. we're trying to find anakin's saber... hard to find his is..

No, I haven't gotten the Season One Clone Wars yet, I'm not really in any hurry, since it's just $15, but you should be able to find someone to burn a copy of it no problem. Maybe you can rent it from the video store too?
There are a LOT of SW books, just a headsup. I would personally recommend starting with Shadows of the Empire which details what happens between ESB and ROTJ. I know Splinters of the Mind's Eye is between AHN and ESB but it's not really any good considering it came out before ROTJ and there's some icky things in there, lol!
I'm reading the New Jedi Order series, there's a lot of stinking books, but I'm like on book 7 and about halfway there I think. Very addictive. I'm waiting to read the book adapations to the movies later, they usually clue in things better. I know the Episode II one did.
Witht he LOTR, you think the special extended version will have all those scenes they cut out in it since they did it before? I know a lot of people were disappointed they cut out Christopher Lee's parts.

Actually, I own the Extended editions of all three movies. and i can pick all the deleted scenes.. is that bad? redface sweatdrop anyways, they did add some.. but even with those.. the way they kill of saruman and grima wormtongue aren't true to the tale of the book.. but then again, in teh book, they die as the climax to the scouring of the shire.. and he didn't include any of the scouring of the shire. and i was disappointed because when frodo looked into galadriel's mirror, and saw a flash of it... so i had hoped they'd have shot some of the hobbits going home to find the shire.. but they didn't.. but that's just like they didn't do any of the tom bombadil.... : I find it interesting how mr. jackson despite the good job he did on the films felt it to decide what is part of the story and what's not. i mean.. if you go to the LOTR sub forum here on gaia.. it's in the entertainment forum.. man.. there are a lot of people who really didn't appreciate that.
I would explain why it's important.. but if anyone hasn't read the books or seen the movie; i don't want to spoil it all.. but, in the books, ROTK was my favorite book. and everything that is happening in it is all importnat. in the first two books, a few things could be left out as they were mostly Tolkein off on a tangent... [which his fans enjoy but for sake of the movie].. however, ROTK was like.. everything mattered... and there was a good lot fo stuff that didn't happen with minas tirith.
as for reading star wars, i wanna stick with the stuff Lucas wrote himself first...
but at my work, there are these SW: ROTS movie scrapbooks/storybooks there.. and i get tempted to look at it... and one day i almost started to read it; then this guy came by and was like, "I wouldn't read that if i were you. gonna ruin it for yourself." I put it away... but the lure of it every time i'm there is just.... *puts her fist in her mouth* geez.. but only like a week to go. or is it 2 weeks?
