He was holding back.

Why or what was unknown, but Ruuvan was holding something back. Either way, even in his offense, Maximos kept an eye open or defense. Even if that defense was an offense.

Ruuvan continued pushing.

Maximos' sword was caught.

And that meant that all the force and space necessary was being provided. Maximos' left foot slid forward, just pass Ruuvan's. He didnt think the elf would kick, but it was regardless as the knee cap and knee, and leg were moving.

Maximos stepped in low, and slipped his sword off of Ruuvan's as he brought himself in. His left shoulder meant to impact the elf's chest, while his right pulled the man forward into the shoulder. Then he would shift his weight, lift, and hopefully flip the elf over and onto his back.

The sudden close proximity and general speed of the move should keep him from any sword slashes. But Ruuvan had been proved tricky before.

He had missed his chance to get the kneecap, so he quickly planted his foot on the ground again. He quickly moved his right leg behind Maximos left as he was pulled into the elbow, throwing himself forward as opposed to fighting it. His right foot drew back at the same time, aiming to scoop out Maximos' left and allow Ruuvan to throw the shadow to the ground.

Tricky!

Exactly like that!

Ruuvan had more hand to hand skill that Maximos gave him credit for. As the shadow, his back and head pointing in the entirely wrong direction to catch sight Ruuvan's leg, had his leg taken from him just as he shift his weight to it.

He was going down, and down he went. Falling forward without a leg to catch himself on. But...he had a grip. He had Ruuvan's arm, and he wasnt soon to let go. But simply tugging the arm as he fell would only lead to the two man landing in a pile. That was...completely useless to any sort of strategic endeavor.

Instead, while falling, Maximos twist his shoulders and hips, so that instead of landing on his face, he would land on his right shoulder and roll with the impact to flatten out onto his back. As he rolled, his slipped up his left foot, aiming to plant it somewhere on Ruuvan's chest, and toss the man over him. Tugging the arm as he fell, would have hopefully made such a reach possible.

And while Ruuvan had a blade...and that made risk for the Shadow's Leg. Maximos had a longer sword, and was counting on his ability to mount a decent deflection.

Down Maximos went, leg taken out from under him sending him tumbling forward. Ruuvan was brought down with him, his opponent's foot landing on his diaphragm. It forced the air out of him a little, his world turning on its side as he was lifted off the ground and thrown over his opponent.

He tucked his head in as he came towards the ground, aiming to meet the ground in some semblance of a roll to recovery. It hurt, landing inevitably did, but after a small forward roll he leapt out of his curled form, instantly rising to his feet and turning around. Agile bastards, them elves.

Regardless of the pain striking out across his body Ruuvan was on the offensive again, striding back over the distance towards Maximos, swords at the ready. It hadn't exactly taken ages to get back on his feet and move, a few seconds maybe, and it was obvious from the way he was moving that the flow of combat was returning to him. Slowly, obviously, but still coming back. He hadn't been thrown that far in the end, it was a fairly low energy throw anyway given their position. When in range, Ruu brought his right sword down in a stabbing motion, aiming to pin Maximos' right shoulder to the ground. Things were getting violent again.

He had to be quick, Ruuvan would be no less. And in a fight such as this, with a man such as Ruuvan there were no corners to be cut. Maximos' did not have some definitive speed advantage, he had only what he could carve out of the situation.

Ruuvan flew over, Maximos knew it wouldnt stun the man for long. The throw was a last minute thought. He didnt ignite his boots, he didnt force his super natural arm to crush or cut or break. The motion however did leave him with his leg near his chest. As such, Maximos immediately tucked his legs in and slapped his hands backwards on either side of his head, and kicked, performing a quick kip up.

His legs flew out and he could hear Ruuvan's rushed footsteps through the grass. His body followed the motion, he could feel the intensity in the air. And see the blade just barely miss his shoulder by a hairs breadth as he rose.

He had to be light on his feet. He had to be fast, or he'd be nothing. Maximos stood as Ruuvan's blade kissed the earth. The Shadow's feet tapped the ground, and even as they did he was already beginning to push off of them, shoving himself back as twisted at the hips whipping his body around to the right.

First would come his right arm, bent, aiming for a deft and powerful black fist as he entered his 180 whip around. Immediately following it would be his left arm, bringing Ankokuko across in a diagonal slash from his upper left to lower right. 'Meant to take advantage of the possible stun caused by the metal smack just a moment ago!

Ruuvan instantly pulled his sword out as it tasted the Earth, not wanting to scar the natural beauty of it all when it wasn't going to accomplish anything. Yes, he was still a little fuzzy in the head from the metal elbow, but he was regained enough to mount a decent defence as the shadow twirled in front of him.

His right sword, coming up from below, came strongly to strike away the unarmed attack; sharp part of blade for more pressure, more pinpointed strength. It was his metal arm, it wouldn't matter. First attack down, the shadow's sword came at him. His sword had been knocked away by the arm, the fuzz in his head throbbing as he was jerked about. In a desperate attempt to avoid the blade he leapt backwards, the blade's tip digging about an inch into his torso, leaving a deep diagonal gash in its path.

As the blade finished its arc, the power brought Ruuvan to his knees. The breath was knocked out of him, blood was flowing freely from the wound, and he was left staring up at his opponent. His swords were still held firmly in his hands, fight still left in him. A magic user would see the faint flow of Light around him, the power starting to seep into him, apparently he could still only draw upon it in times of need. He needed to teach himself otherwise.

Maximos would not relent. Fights were not meant to stop and go. Terrain was meant to be crossed, footing lost and gained.

His right arm was sent up and away violently and accompanied by a hail of violet and indigo sparks and heralded by a loud metal on metal grinding screech.

Maximos' form was turned to face the elf head on, his right leg bringing his spinning motion to a stop even as his sword completed its slash. Without delay, without hesitation his right arm moved to join his left, at his right hip. The right sitting below the left, adding force, not guidance.

The Shadow burst forward, his boots digging up tufts of grass as he immediately pressed across the distance. Ruuvan would be recovering from his leap on his knees, and Maximos would be advancing forward for a powerful straight thrust at the man's chest.

Like a lance, Maximos aimed to run Ruuvan through and carry the man, on the sword straight into the tree about half a dozen feet behind him. With his glowing white, right eye, Maximos could see the Light. He was confident he didnt need to play it soft.

Maximos was coming for a finishing blow, a straight thrust. A strike that would not be too pleasant to experience.

Closer he came, Ruuvan didn't move. The light instantly pulsed stronger as the shadow came close, the invisible strands of magic weaving themselves down his arms and onto his blades. He moved them of their own accord, he had control, but the layer of light running down his arms to the blade was something extra. A light attack for the blades, strength for his own return blows; artificial light muscle, if you want a name for it.

In one swift motion Ruuvan brought his left blade to bare, whipping it at supernatural speeds to deflect Maximos thrust to the side. It was a straight attack and it was moving fast, but at least it would pierce through his side rather than his chest. He brought his right blade up, stabbing forward at the shadowy mass attacking him. Momentum, Maximos had that. Strength, Ruuvan had it in return. He was stationary, but his strikes came as strong as if he were running to meet Maximos head on.

Pain tore through his body as the shadow blade hit, piercing his left side just below his ribs. It went through, cleanly leaving the other side. Kidney, lung? Both? Ruuvan couldn't tell now, but his own blade was squared away to stab straight into Maximos' gut as he continued forward.

They would most likely soar back a few feet, blades in one another, the outcome was going to be painful either way.

More light. Just when the rust was shaking off Max's fundamentals. It just meant he needed more shadows.

He'd only see this move performed three times in all of his time on Gaia. Each time it was met with unerring success, as opponents were left surprised and stunned and that was quite honestly a sad thing.

You see there were several concepts at play here. One of them was most definitely, range. Ruuvan had two short swords, Maximos had a longsword, though by length some my consider it a b*****d sword. Even if both men were exactly the same height and Ruuvan held both blades at full extension, range...was something Maximos still had.

With range came time, and with time came the ability to perform this, as previously mentioned, so very rare technique. Timing had to be perfect, and it was, he waited for Ruuvan's sword and his own to meet. But more importantly, the technique had to be flawless, and it was...

...Maximos just let go of his sword...

...really it didnt take that much skill to do. He just opened his hand. Ankokuko went to the side, but it wouldnt be piercing anything at all. Not unless Ruuvan had smacked it aside so hard with his enhanced strength that he himself gave it the momentum needed to do such.

No, more than that, as his sword was unexpectedly released, in that moment of unorthodox realization, the Shadow did not, step forward. No, instead he stepped to the side. The right side to be exact, opposite his sword. His motion was quick, just enough to move his gut, and sent a line of red along his side as opposed to hole. Its exact depth was unknown, as it could have very well been a slash the full depth of the sword, but caught in the moment Maximos did not know or care.

He sidestepped, while keeping his full speed, dropped down low...and then sent his cursed right arm flying straight for Ruuvan's exposed midsection. The Elf's left arm occupied with Maximos sword, his right, was extended, that meant that a hand, far quicker and lighter than a sword should be able to get in easily. And as there was a tree, not more than half a dozen feet behind him. Ruuvan didnt really have anywhere to go.

As shown at the start of the match, the fingers of Maximos' right hand were bladed. And as shown on a tree, could be extended and retracted at will, it was a technique called...

Quote:
|Dark Grasp | Atrum Occupo- On command the Twilight Gauntlet is able to extend the reach of each of its digits creating a deadly claw. Each fingertip extends in a sharp thin blade with frightening cutting power. The fingers may be aligned like a spear, or shield, or quickly burst forward to impale, though the exact length they may reach is unknown, though at more extreme lengths the increased strength of the cursed limb makes effective damage and control possible. In this form, damage and speed or key.

...And as that supernatural strength, moved the arm with supernatural speed across less than a foot of space, the fingers of the hand burst forward. Maximos' hand was not in a fist, it was open, and the fingertips aligned like the blade of a sword aiming to stab clean into midsection. Once they pierced Maximos broke formation, his fingers opened, stretching the wound, but also moving the blades apart from each other so that the knife like extensions did not simply run through. They were meant to impale, and carry him back across, backwards and into tree with a wet smack!

Pain. Stabbing pain. The light had not helped him, but at least he had a connection to it again, and now he was being carried towards a tree on Maximos' arm, blood pouring from his open wound leaving a slight trail in the grass. Apparently his spine hadn't been damaged, a small saving grace, as he could still feel his legs and move them ever so slightly.

Blood forced itself out of his mouth as he hit the tree, the pain simply vanishing as fatigue rained through his entire body. What was he meant to do? The light had come to help, both attacks thwarted, and then left him as soon as the metal hand touched his skin. Somehow he had managed to hold onto his blades, his hands feeling as if they were fusing to the leather-bound grips.

His eyes were open, looking at Maximos, and his heart was still beating. He was tired, he was running out of blood, he was stuck to a tree through means of a metal arm. Things were not going well. In a last vain attack, one not holding much promise as energy simply drained out of the elf, he stabbed in with his left sword, just something to get back at that shadowy b*****d. His right sword drooped in his hand, swinging around until it was held upside down in his hand. Then another stab, downwards, into Maximos' leg. Neither had much strength behind them, but hopefully he would get dropped and then... crawl away, or something.

Only...

Maximos
Like a lance, Maximos aimed to run Ruuvan through and carry the man, on the sword straight into the tree about half a dozen feet behind him.

Maximos
And as there was a tree, not more than half a dozen feet behind him. Ruuvan didnt really have anywhere to go.

...Maximos was far out of reach. Six feet away to be exact. The fingers of his right hand were extended across the distance, and one could feel a shaking in the cursed limb, as it tried its best to hold the weight of a man across six feet, a difficulty even for a magic arm.

Blood loss likely caused the elf a hallucination or two. Or maybe cost him a tad bit of depth perception Either way, there was an audible "shink", like the sound of a sword sheathing, as the fingertips were pulled out of the tree. Maximos held up right arm, as the 6ft extensions shrank and the hand returned to normal proportions.

Your a mess...

He said, then looked down at himself. Blood poured from several deep cuts, the chest, the leg being the worst. As infact Ruuvan had dug the entire width of his blade into Maximos' side just narrowly missing a vital organ, there were stress fractures that bled over from his fight in shadow form. He wasnt looking any better.

...So am I.

Max said with a smirk, and then a chuckle and a laugh as he reached over and grabbed Ankokuko, swinging it twice through the air to knock off dirt, dust, and leaves.

I think we're getting old.

Mr Noobdude
Given new positioning, his 'straightened out foot' would be between Rain's legs and a little close to his a** toe-wise.

Mr. Yankie was countered midyank with an equal force in the opposing direction. The result being Donald's body was still 'center', but his now arms were now a bit more Rain's 'rightward' in direction, but not moving. What did this earn Rain?

A lightning quick upwarding ( and will still go upwards if he decides to move a few inches up again ) of Donald's foot for yet another opportuned crotch shot while the punch was still in very beginning stages. Would Rain be able to dodge this bullet like he did the first?

Post stops here due to the damage that could be caused would pretty much stop the other stuff from happening. If not, they will be dealt with next post.

Well, Ronald would pre-empt Rain's scythe yank, and used enough force to keep it from going far at all. Then for a slight change of tactic, instead of the follow-through with his right from before.

Rain would just let go. He would turn his body counterclockwise slightly as he did so, more forcably discarding the scythe than a simple release, hoping the momentum would carry his opponent away. Likewise, the rising knee, being pushed out by Rain's right leg, would
impact with graze his left thigh, considerably meatier and more protected than his family jewels.

With his right hand, if Ronald was still standing, Rain would shove hir in an effort to put distance between them, backpedelling quickly before any retributive scythe action could occur.

No. No, he would not. Rain was already injured from the previous low blow, unarmed versus a very dangerous opponent, was unable to get them off balance at all, and was positioned poorly because of all three above factors.

So yeah, Rain would go to his knees again, since no clever tricks would get him out of this situation, his face contorted with pain, beads of sweat dotting his brow. His grip on the scythe would slip and slide off, as he would need both arms to keep himself from tumbling forward with the force of percieved gravity.

Blood loss, no blood in brain, blood going. Hallucinations were bound to happen in such a state, no amount of training can go against the laws of biology.

Ruuvan slid down the tree as Maximos drew the blades away, ending up sitting at the base with his legs spread in front of him. Laughing at his friend's comment bought a wheezy bubbling noise, followed by a wee bit of coughed up blood. s**t was ******** up, as they say.
"I don't know... what you're talking... about..." his words came in short, sharp breaths, "I'm still in my... my prime." He laughed again.
As far as he was concerned for this bout, wherever he was, it was over for the time-being.

There was something odd about this place, this world. Ruuvan could feel everything as if it were real, the pain and exhaustion but a couple, but there was still a feeling of detachment about him. His thoughts had an impact here, almost like a waking dream, but he couldn't quite grasp the cause.

Another fight, that was what he needed. His vision blurred for a moment, the world seeming to phase. It settled back to normal. A rematch. It phased again, almost disappearing completely before settling back once more.
"Again." He said as he let out what felt like his last breath, though he knew it for signs of unconsciousness.
Darkness slowly engulfed his sight, blotting out the quickly blurring environment.

Again?

Ruuvan opened his eyes, squinting briefly against the sun as his eyes adjusted. Where was the pain, the fatigue? His mind quickly caught up with his body, a terribly strange feeling, and he looked around. Sand dunes were all that surrounded him, but he was on solid ground. A patch of large sandstone slabs, fifty-by-fifty metres or so. If ever he had seen a sparring ground, this was one of them.

He could feel the weight of a full quiver on his back, the hard surface of what felt like a sword alongside it, the grip of his five foot long bow in his hand. A set of plain tan clothes covered his body, loose-fitting for easy movement and ventilation. Underneath the garments on both his forearms were metal braces; both to give him wrist the support when using his bow, with either hand, and to give him some deflective capabilities should it come to unarmed fighting. That was all he had protection-wise, his speed and agility was his best defence.

Where was his opponent? He was standing right in front of him before, but now... Ruuvan quickly turned his head to scan around for the shadow.

Ruuvan
"Again."

Maximos smirked. He bounced Ankokuko on his shoulder and looked upwards at the bright white moon, and as the white light hit his eyes it filled them until it was all he could see.

And then the world vanished.

Then it burned.

Maximos saw white and nothing else, he lowered his head bringing his hand up to block out the moonlight turned sunlight. This was was scorching, and Maximos wore jet black. A cloak which ended in a black hooded cowl covered his head, and face. A length of cloth covered the lower half of his face. His clothing was loose, and black. At his left, sheathed, was a shortblade a foot long at the most. At his right, a sword, about 3ft in length. And at his back, was a long sword, its tip over his right shoulder.

These boots were padded, made of a base shoe with leathers straps to hold it in place that went up about half way to the knee. They were made to make no sound, and thats precisely what they did. Or didnt do.

Ruuvan was looking for Maximos. Maximos was looking at Ruuvan. More directly, at Ruuvan's back. More speficically, his shoulder. Where he lunged forward, and in a blur of stealthy silent black aimed to bury the short blade completely.
