M.A. blushed a bit, taking Watson's comment as a mild compliment. "You give me too much credit," she said, keeping her eyes on Daemyn. It's all them. They're so much stronger than me; they have all the will-power, all the heart. Yet they look to me for strength, M.A. marveled, seeing how Daemyn stiffly turned his head to her, uncertainty in his eyes. He was waiting for her.
Well, then, let them look to me to support them, even if this pillar's hollow, she thought, determination surging through by her own volition. There was no time to let them all collapse on her weakness. She'd be firm, even if this strength was fake. "Daemyn, please, stand it this one more time!" she shouted, confident that he could. She could believe in him, even if she didn't necessarily believe in herself.
Saebum, from the side, was surprised by the passion in her voice. M.A. smiled so often, but so rarely did she really care about something. Everything was usually kept an arms' length away. It was... nice seeing some fire in 'er.
Sure enough, Daemyn managed. The attack left his head disoriented and disconnected with the rest of his body, but he could feel M.A.'s faith, it was almost tangible the way it held him up. This one would hopefully help Tora, since M.A. figured the elephant would have a tough time of it with such a strong Pokemon as Manectric. "Smog," she said at last.
Daemyn's body would not cooperate with his brain, but who needed a damn brain anyways when you got other organs? And so, with a good chunk of effort, the Houndoom sucked in a huge breath of air and sent out a small cloud of gaseous poison. Then he trotted back over to M.A.'s side, exhausted but more or less content. "Good job," she said. "Now, Tora, it's your turn!" The elephant, tired but motivated, charged into the field, raring to go.

Mitsu's eyes went wide as this scruffy man walked over and simply began to beat Kilik. It was as if she was frozen there, the rush of emotions and fresh, horrible memories of the Slateport incident flooding her mind. "Kch," she choked, "Hah! Hah! I wasn't our fault," she repeated. Tears fell from her eyes, though unnoticed by own herself. Who are we kidding! The blame is entirely on us! Her knees felt weak, her throat dry. She wanted nothing more than to crumple and cry. She had been weak before Slateport. She had been weak during it. She was still weak now. "Weak, weak," she mumbled to herself watching the man continually beat Kilik. The fear of suffering the same pain kept her rooted to the ground.
And then an explosion of thunder and lightning ricocheted from a few feet away. The sudden noise brought her back to reality. “Cable,” she said with a small smile looking at the new Pokemon. He looked so determined. He’d evolved just to save Kilik. What a lucky trainer you are Kilik, something of this caliber happening in just the nick of time.
And if Cable could be strong so could she. Once more, as unhealthy as it was, she pushed the memories back. Forcing her legs to move, Mitsu scrambled on over to where Kilik’s body lay. The man had seemed to be preoccupied with Cable’s new evolution. She was secretly glad. Fear was still apparent; after all, the man was huge. “C’mon Kilik,” she said, “We have to get you inside.” Some of his wounds had reopened, and his clothes were a bit bloodied now. She was worried, “please.”

"Veilstone, you say," Jun said, casually musing over her answer, reaching up with his free hand to adjust his glasses only to find they weren't there. Ah, well, habit. He had no reason to doubt her answer, except that maybe he had never seen her before in his lifetime. There were plenty of excuses for that, though. He had been gone the last three years; she must have come then, for he was sure he'd notice someone like her in town. Whatever the case, he figured he ought to be cautious. Rumors had a nasty way of finding themselves where you least want them. If the martial arts world got wind of his chasing cosmetics instead of waterfalls on some mountain, it'd bring shame upon the Shuugos.
And so, he didn't question, didn't reciprocate an answer.
When the girl challenged them, Jun could only sigh. How quickly things came to blows nowadays. Couldn't they see how ugly and disgraceful they looked, getting all huffed up with such ugly Pokemon? Words and schemes were far more elegant, but the more pressing matter was Annie's question.
"I'm sure you can demolish them yourself," Jun said, a snide grin on his lips. Even someone who didn't train, like himself, could see the difference in power. Part of him wished she would. "But it wouldn't be very ... gentleman-like of me to not make the lady's job easier," he said, trying to hide the curtness he felt. Damn her for getting him into this.
"Hurry up already, you lovebirds!" came the offending voice of the Girl #1. She was so unimportant and frumpy that Jun didn't even think she deserved having a name worth remembering. She desperately needed a facial and a treadmill, the man thought.
Oh, he didn't like how gritty battling could get, but he supposed he could do it once in a while. He had a feeling it'd be an easy win, and that was fine with him. Besides, this time, he'd let that rabid dog take the front lines. "Rosaline, let's show them grace," he said, also kissing her Pokeball before flicking his wrist and revealing the dashing Roselia.
"You'll regret interrupting our ga- walk," he said with a snobby smile. "Rosy, give them some better posture." The Rose complied with a sing-song "Lin!", twirling where she stood. Golden sparkles began to seep out from her flowers and leaves, and with a dainty smile, she gracefully thrust a limb in her opponents' direction to allow a cloud of paralysis to fall gently upon them.

Kilik could barely speak, but managed to find the strength to stand thanks to Mitsu's aide. And then he grabbed her hand. "...No," he whispered, "This is for me and Cable...I," he began to breathe heavily, placing a hand on the wall to keep himself steady. He could barely keep an eye open due to the pain, "I have to s-stay. Get inside," he turned his eyes to her, his hand tensing on her wrist. This is a bully that would use you to hurt me. You weren't the one with your face plastered all over the news, he thought. He gulped back the tears. "Have Nurse Joy set up a room for me. I think I'll..." Kilik sighed heavily, "I'll need it. Cable!" he barked, looking over at his newly evolved friend. "Let's go! Hit him with a Thunderpunch!"
With a nod, the tiger jumped out of the hole, running at the man with blinding speed. A fist was pulled back and crackled with electricity. "Electa..." Cable sent it forward, "BUUUZZZ!" but he felt his fist hit something hard and somewhat dry. He raised an eyebrow in question. In the nick of time, a blue Machoke had taken the place of the body builder. The Thunderpunch certainly hurt, but it was nothing compared to the hurt he was about to lay down on the Electabuzz. "Go with a Brick Break, Machoke!" the man bellowed.
Kilik leaned against the wall, holding his side. It was damp and very warm. He lifted the hand to look at his palm - it was pale red. Damn, he thought, With one kick he tore open some stitches. b*****d, he closed his eyes. "Cable, hit back with your own Brick Break! Show him how it's done!" Electabuzz nodded, the lightning around his fists dying down. Instead, he let a punch fly and had it collide with his foe's. He matched the Machoke punch for punch, blocking each one with his own punch. "Elect..." he grumbled, jumping back and holding his new, human-like hands out in front of him. A flurry of stars shot out in an unavoidable Swift!
The man's ears twitched. He could hear police sirens. That girl who had ran inside...musta squealed! He recalled the Machoke and set off for a run. "If I see ya again, you're dead, Kid!" Kilik watched as he ran away, his vision blurring again. He laughed weakly. "Cowards always...rrrrrruuuunnnn..." he stepped forward and fell, right into Cable's arms. The Electabuzz walked into the Center, seeing Mitsu. Ah yes, it was that girl that Kilik was spending all of his time with now. He followed her into a room that Nurse Joy had set up, putting his trainer on the bed, allowing for the Nurse to do the rest. Cable's tail swished about, his body shivering from the pent up energy. The tiger looked over at Mitsu. He had to thank her for being so worried about his master.

"I think," Wattson sighed, recalling his Manectric after it became Poisoned. "Continuing the battle would just be a formality. You see," he walked out towards the center of the field, beckoning M.A. to him. "This is how it would have played out..." he closed his eyes and thought about it.
"Manectric has no moves that would even dent that elephant of yours, Lassie. His most powerful attacks are rendered useless because of the type advantage! You knew where you were going with this match," he laughed, "I think, Bonnie, that you planned the entire match out that way! You knew what was coming! Anyway, your Tora would have rolled around the Gym all la-de-da," he made a circular motion with his fingers, rolling his eyes around as well, "I'm too old to catch it, as is Manectric. You would hit him too much, and like my hip, he'd go out easy. I think..."
"No, I know! You've earned this!" The same Magnemite that brought the girl water came down, holding a metal case and a disc. "For your first Gym Badge, a complimentary badge case! This is the Dynamo Badge, here inside." He opened it up for her to show it off, "And this..." the Magnemite dropped the disc into his hand, "is the TM34, Shock Wave! Unlike Lt. Surge's aim in the war, this move will never, ever miss! Use it to electrify your enemies!" The man laughed heartily, "Now, if you'll excuse me, lassie..." he yawned, "It's time for my nap. The exit's that way," he pointed and a Raichu opened the door with its tail, "Have a great afternoon. We'll have to battle again sometime!" Wattson turned around and started walking away, a Flaffy waddling towards him to cover him with a white fleece blanket made out of his own wool. The man yawned loudly and disappeared behind a large metal door.
And that was that.

Luffy perked up and grinned up at Robin, he was so ready to show off that his attacks were the coolest. "Heh glad you are so excited Luffy. All right, we need our attacks to look flashy, and your flashiest move is your Swift. So how about we try that out some?" Robin suggested to the small Aipom.
Thinking it about it himself Luffy nodded after a moment. Yeah Swift was very flashy! Just like Buggy the Clown! Grinning excitedly Luffy ran up ahead of Robin and hopping backwards a few times so that they could see each other face to face. Ready now he tried his best to think of some flashy way in order to do his Swift attack. After a moment an idea came to him. Jumping up into the air Luffy did a back flip his tail hand glowing as stars came out in an arc as he jumped. Over all it looked pretty good, ok so not as good as the others, but they had lots of practice and this was his first time doing it.
"That was really good Luffy! Hmmm you are pretty acrobatic to, I bet you could do some flips or something?" Robin mused for a second. While she was thinking she didn't notice that Luffy was busy manipulating the Swift stars. Since the stars had no where to go they were just listening to Luffy's orders and were forming shapes in the sky, food related shapes. "Hmm... I dunno... Luffy what do you, hey what are you doing?" At the question Luffy just grinned and with a wave of his hand the Swift stars flew around Robin in a circle. "What! Your controlling the stars?" She asked amazed that you could do that with the Swift attack. At her question Luffy just shrugged and the stars blinked out of existence, apparently they had a time limit. "Hmmm.... Maybe you could make some shapes with them at the contest?" Robin suggested helpfully.
Luffy just grinned and and doing another back flip creating another arc of Swift stars. Right side up Luffy controlled the stars into various shapes in the air until they ran out of time again. He liked making the shapes in the sky, they were pretty cool to look at and he could make them into all sorts of things. He liked making them into food shapes the best though, even if it did get him kinda hungry. Also he was better with drawing in the sky then drawing on paper so that was good to!
"Hmmm its looking good, but the stars fading is just kinda boring... Maybe you could.... bring them down to ground level and smash them with your Brick Break?" She didn't know how that would look but Luffy always looked cool when he used Brick Break so that was what she was hoping for.
Luffy liked the idea of that, then again he liked smashing things a lot so that might have helped a bit. Doing a back flip again he manipulated the stars into a few food based shapes before bring them down into a ball. Grinning he jumped up and using his whole body he smashed his glowing tail into the glowing mass. It turned out Robin's intuition was correct! The ball of stars exploded into a mass of glittering light. Both of them stood there in awe looking down at the cascading light.
"Wow that looks great Luffy! I wish we had some more time to practice but we are almost there! I need to make you look good to!" Robin ran up and scooped Luffy up into a hug and happily skipped following Sarah and Jayme into Cerulean City.

Leaving was the last thing she wanted to do, what if Kilik got hurt some more? He wasn't in any state to be left alone. But she could see the confidence and determination that both he and Cable held in their eyes. It was something she wished to have in her own Pokemon and herself. Mitsu nodded, helping Kilik get a grasp on the wall first. "Don't be too long," she whispered before running inside.
"Nurse Joy!" Mitsu called out catching the pink haired nurse, "Call officier Jenny!" A loud thud followed her words. Joy nodded before making a quick call down to the police station. The next step after that was to get a room set up. That was done quickly with the help of many Chanseys.
Moments later Cable arrived, Kilik in his arms. He looked bad, but not as bad as yesterday and for that Mitsu was relieved. Joy and the many Chanseys once more were taking care of the rest, repairing the stitches and placing on bandages and whatnot. Mitsu took the moment to walk down to the cafeteria and pick up a glass of orange juice. He'd need some energy once he woke up, which wouldn't bee too long from now. Mitsu placed it on the desk next to Kilik's bed. She herself took a seat throwing Cable a weak smile.

Annie wasn't quite in the mood for a trivial battle; they'd have to make quick work of this one. Needless to say, Jun's Pokemon weren't exactly exuding strength. Oh well, it wouldn't be hard to wipe the floor, and then some, with these people. But first was first, the Cacturne had to go. he landed a good Pursuit onto her Mightyena, though that wasn't quite the smartest thing to do. "Counter! Assurance!" Annie called out as Yena slammed her shoulder into the cactus Pokemon, doing twice the normal damage. One more attack and it'd be a goner. "You going to do anything?" she asked Jun casually looking down at his beautiful though unimpressive Roselia.
"Croagunk! Use Mud Bomb on that Roselia!" Girl #1 shouted. The frog like Pokemon took in a deep breath before trying to spew a lump of brownish matter onto the elegant rose. . .only to be stopped as his muscles froze. Damn that paralysis!

Tora just about fell over with exasperation. Where. The. Hell. Was. Her. Exciting. Gym. Battle?! She fought a clump of metal for like, five whole minutes, and that was it? The Donphan went to the side of the arena and sulked.
M.A. suddenly blinked as her metaphorical rollercoaster screeched to a halt. "Oh," she said. The girl had been expecting the intensity to continue. Once again, Wattson had given her too much credit; she knew of Tora's advantage but had totally forgotten about it in the heat of the battle. All she thought about was well, how to be strong so she could be a better trainer.
She was a bit dazed the rest of the time. "Are you... sure?" M.A. said, but the man was abruptly gone behind a metal door. She didn't feel like she deserved this. Not the way the battle went. After all, she had switched out, but Wattson didn't -- and it had been to her advantage this whole time, whether she realized it or not. Instead of the elation she thought she would felt, she fell back into her normal complacency, and a disgruntled one at that. She wanted to be proud of her badge, not doubtful of it.
Now, she wasn't trying to be pious. But she didn't like this. The cool metal of the badge didn't feel warm to her. Looking at Tora, she could see that the Donphan was obviously unsatisfied, and Daemyn too, since there had been no real conclusion. He fought to the finish; his teaming up with Tora was just an extension of himself.
She had made the wise decision, yes, but she hadn't made the /right/ one. There really wasn't much to do, but she didn't know what to do. Saebum, noting his sister's demeanor, came up to her but did not go overboard with congratulations. "Trainers switch all the time."
"Regardless of what other people do, that wasn't fair. I just got so caught up in it, I forgot to think... Winning isn't important."
Sae squeezed his sister's shoulders.
M.A. suddenly brightened up. "I know. Meet me outside, will ya?" Sae smiled and complied, fiance in tow.
Mary-Anne left the badge case and TM in front of Watson's door. He was sleeping, so she didn't want to knock or anything. "Mmm, yup, I feel much better," she declared, stretching as if she had just woke up from a nap. "Come, Daemyn, Tora, let's go get some rest. We'll do it right next time." The Donphan grinned eagerly, and the Houndoom sighed contentedly allowing himself to be recalled. Ulani, not exactly sure why her trainer didn't take the shiny thing, shrugged. Silly humans.
Diego, however, was impressed. The air-headed girl had some smarts after all, as well as empathy and a conscience. And it had been a good battle here and there. Maybe she was suitable as more than just a convoy for him; he had been planning to ditch if he could when she got into major trouble again. Intriguing, he thought, as he recalled himself to go to sleep.

Cable leaned against the wall, his tail swishing around again. He was quite irritated at what had happened with that man. He ran away, like a coward. Then again...he closed his eyes and thought back to what he would consider his 'childhood'. Countless times he had ran back to Kilik, because he was too afraid to fight against his opponent. Well, after finally evolving (an aspiration that he knew Kilik had), that was in the past. Electabuzz looked over at Mitsu and smiled - he knew his trainer loved a good glass of orange juice.
Kilik was fast asleep. The image of Cable's evolution replayed over and over in his head. He couldn't think of any other moment where he felt more proud about his Pokemon. Maybe the time when Flareon evolved just to prove to him that he was strong; to help Kilik at the time of his greatest need. His hand tensed on the blanket again. His body was cold from the rain. Luckily, the Chansey had been smart enough to remove his bloody clothes and stash them in the wash.
Cable stepped over, placing a hand on his trainer's chest. A low hum could then be heard as he used a small electric charge to heat his trainer up. Then, he took the blanket that was folded at his feet and draped it over him. "Tabuzz," he mumbled, walking back to the wall. He leaned against it once more. His eyes fell upon Mitsu. She would have to take care of him. A red light surrounded him as he suddenly recalled himself into his Pokeball for a rest - evolving sure took it out of you.
His fits of the shivers died down almost instantly thanks to Cable's electric heating. The black haired boy didn't stir in his sleep, but rather lay very still, the blanket moving up and down ever so slightly to signal that he was still, in fact, breathing. Kilik imagined all the things awaiting for him in Sinnoh at this point and man, he could not wait. He certainly hoped Mitsu would still go with him, even though it appeared he was a Magnemite for trouble.

The whol ordeal had happened so fast, just like Slateport, that it took a moment for it to sink in. She'd been doing a lot of acting instead of thinking lately. She liked to hope it was for the better, maybe. Brushing her stray tears aside she looked at the boy who sat across from her. He looked peaceful in his sleep again, and that was enough for Mitsu to take as a good sign. A smile somehow found it's way to her lips. She'd barely known the boy up until now and yet there was something. Perhaps because he was a person she could cling onto.
Suddenly Giovanni's words echoed in her mind. She couldn't trust her friends to be there for her all the time he had said. He was right of course, but she was foolish. She wanted someone. Mitsu clutched the edge of her skirt, balling her two hands into fists. Fresh tears finding thier way down to her lap.
Why did you say no? Why did you call me pathetic? Am I really? Why did it have to be Flannery? . . . why wasn't it me. . . She balled her fists tighter, the nails cutting into her palms. It isn't right! I just-, I, I can't just leave Mike!
"But I did," she whispered, unable to look at anything else but the floor. It wasn't right for me to leave Mike even when he left me. And it isn't right for me to cling to Kilik for that same reason either.
. . . .
But there's no denying that I've had a wonderful time. The smiles were real. Mitsu closed her eyes tears still falling from them, though a tiny smile finding it's way to her lips. Everything wasn't right, but maybe they didn't have to be, maybe they could never be. But right now, she at least had some company, and that was good enough for her.

The Raichu let out a bit of a sigh as she pulled herself up into a sitting position, ears drooping. Never before had she felt so hopeless, so... lost. The Koffing came flying at her again but this time the Poison Gas Pokemon's wild, wide eyes caught her attention before it could touch her. The mouse closed her eyes and spun her body sharply, the business-end of her tail smacking the Koffing right between the eyes and sending it flying like a glorified volleyball. The purple Pokemon flew straight up into the air and smacked the ceiling before bouncing right back down at its trainer. The two hit the ground with a thud and Shocker wasted no time in rushing forward, closing her eyes until she'd passed through the remainder of the smog cloud.
When she broke through to the other side the clean air in her lungs felt amazing and she coughed several times, still feeling weaker due to the poison coursing through her system. Her eyes were still burning slightly and it made her vision blurry but she pressed on. I have to get out of here... she thought desperately. Ugh... so tired... It was tough going but she finally came upon a balcony, where below she could see battle going on. The scary man in the orange suit has a matching orange-dragon thing, and placed her paws on two of the vertical rails and peered between them, groaning a bit as the world seemed to spin. The dragon summoned a huge wave of water and it seemed to swallow up the whole arena, and Shocker's ears twitched slightly at the display of power. Wow...
=-=-=-=-= The Scyther hadn't even been given a moment to recover from the Rock Slide it had just suffered when suddenly something cold and solid slam into its side, and it was sent to the ground forcibly. Growling, the Mantis Pokemon slowly got to its feet again, glaring angrily at the Sealeo. "Slash it again, Hank!" the trainer yelled, shaking his fist. "We won't lose to these two!" The Scyther let out a screech and it jumped at Shiva, scythes raised high and ready to strike.
Jaeshan winced as the Vigoroth's claws tore into Combusken, but his Pokemon didn't seem all that rattled. Sure it hurt, but Combusken wore a confident smirk that seemed to bolster even Jaeshan's confidence. "Heh, all right, Combusken, if that's how they want to play... Flamethrower attack, go!" Combusken was quite glad to hear that particular command and she did a nifty back flip to put some distance between herself and the Wild Monkey Pokemon, and she reared back and let the ferocious flames fly.

Riza frowned a bit at Crenu and looked down at the small cone shaped Pokemon. He wasn't being very nice to the poor little thing and she found that to be rather irritating. She held up her pokedex and scanned the little ice-type. "Well, according to this she's still very young," Riza said, nodding. She can use powder snow, leer and double team for attacks, although the pokedex says that she also can use disable, whatever that is. Apparently Snorunt don't normally learn disable, so she must have come from a breeder, like my Sneasel did. See, Sneasel doesn't learn ice punch by leveling up. I didn't even know she could use it until a while ago, but my brother did say something about pokemon being able to be born with special moves known as egg moves." Riza shrugged a little and closed her Pokedex when she realized she'd been rambling. She'd only learned about the egg moves yesterday and she hoped she didn't make it sound too confusing for Crenu. She wasn't even sure if she understood it herself.
She folded her arms and stood up, smiling at the cute little Snorunt. She couldn't understand why Crenu wouldn't want the poor little thing, and again it made her angry. "And one more thing," she added suddenly, looking right at him. "If you don't want to keep her, I will," she said, voice filled with determination.

The little Snorunt looked at the female trainer who seemed to be fond of her, feeling a little happy when she offered to take her. She looked like she was kinder than the blond trainer, but she still couldn't trust them.
Crenu looked back at Riza, something about the way she spoke sorta made him feel bad. Plus that look of hers was oddly intimidating, he felt like he'd done something wrong but played it off with a smirk. "Heh, no need to get like that. Besides, Disable makes her...interesting." He'd read about Professor Elm's research on pokemon eggs and how the whole subject was still shrouded in mystery. As far as he knew, no one had actually witnessed a pokemon produce an egg to date, but the fact remained that pokemon did indeed hatch from the eggs found by breeders and trainers alike. There wasn't that much data on pokemon eggs, but he had read an article that theorized pokemon could be born with knowledge of moves they normally wouldn't know as a result of one of the parent pokemon. This little Snorunt was apparently born with Disable, a nasty little move that put a grin on Crenu's face. "If she did come from a breeder, then this Snorunt isn't wild, or at least it didn't use to be. Either she accidentally ran away from her breeder, or she was abandoned by her trainer." He put another cigarette to his lips, but didn't light it. It was his last one, so instead he tucked it behind his ear. "Judging from her age and the distance she's put between us I'd say its the latter. Other trainer musta thought she was weak, too..." If this was true, then this little one had been through some hardship. No telling what that other trainer had done and said to her, it's hard to wash off the feeling of being worthless. He could almost see it in her eyes, a familiar coldness and sorrow from being broken down. But the important thing was that one could always rebuild themselves, and hardship is the best way to make someone tough. He walked over to the Snorunt who looked up at him with curiosity and fear and opened his bag. He smiled a little as he pulled out one of his potions and sprayed her with it, the little Snow Hat Pokemon shaking from the sting it left behind. No longer smiling Crenu stood up and stepped back to where he'd been before, looking at Snorunt with a serious face. "I expect better than the best from you, anything less simply will not do." Though strict, there was a kindness in his voice that he was not use to and didn't even notice. He didn't feel like recalling the pokemon, which was also very unlike him.
She felt a terrible sting from the stuff that the blond guy had sprayed on her, but once it passed she felt like new! Why was he healing her like that, so that she'd stand a better chance out in the wold? That was a strange way to show mercy, but at least she wasn't in pain anymore. But when she looked up at the trainer's face she could see he was smiling, and she felt an odd cool feeling coming from him that was similar to the one she felt. Had he been hurt as well? Suddenly he stood up and looked serious again, but his words felt like sweet music to her. Overjoyed the little Snorunt stood up and shook with excitement, coming a little closer to her trainer and his kind friend. She still felt a little uneasy and the blond one still came off as unfriendly, but the raven haired girl seemed nice enough. Plus she noticed that her new trainer didn't seem like he wanted to cross her.

Riza smirked a little at Crenu's response, looking back at the small orange Pokemon curiously, not sure if she wanted the story of how the little Snorunt ended up here with them to be true or not. If it had gotten away from a breeder, it was either because the breeder was lazy and not very observant and just hadn't been paying enough attention. Either that, or the Snorunt had a bit of a mischievous streak in it and she'd just run away for fun or something. If the Snorunt had been abandoned by a trainer, well, that thought alone made her feel bad for the little snow hat Pokemon. "Well, so what if she is weak?" Riza said finally, causing Sneasel to jump at the sudden increase in her trainer's voice. "Power isn't everything, you know," she snapped, now folding up her fishing rod so it could be put back into her knapsack. She didn't want to be done fishing already, but she hadn't expected to hook such a tough Pokemon so fast and she really wanted to get Ralts seen to at the Pokemon Center. "I'm going back to town now," she said, slinging her bag over her shoulder and beginning to walk, beckoning Sneasel to follow after her with a snap of her fingers.
She sighed a little, not really sure why she'd gotten so angry all of a sudden, but as she thought about the last few moments, she knew why. "Other trainer musta thought she was weak, too." Crenu's voice echoed in her mind and she shook her head. Remembering what the pokedex had said, Snorunt could eventually grow up to be a Pokemon called Glalie, and from the look of it glalie seemed to be pretty tough (of course, with lacking the upgrade to her pokedex Riza was oblivious to the other form snorunt could take). It was at that moment that Riza's phone began to chirp brightly and Riza took it out, smiling when she realized she had received a new text message from Jaden. It didn't say much, but the few words were enough to push her guilt button, and she figured either her mother or father had made him send it:
Yo sis... you still alive?
Riza tucked a few strands of raven hair behind her ear and quickly sent a reply simply telling her family not to worry. It hadn't occurred to her that she should call them and let them know nothing had happened to her during the Team Rocket attack, but then again she hadn't thought it would make the news, either. Oh well, at least she knew they cared about her.

If it wasn't for the thin coating of ice now layering Shiva's body, the attack from the Scyther probably would have been far more damaging. Shards of ice shot off in all directions and the Sealeo cried out from the sting of the mantis' blade cutting into her. Shiva barked sharply, the icy layer surrounding her growing thicker and she continued to roll forward, barking loudly as she attempted to crash the growing-in-power Ice Ball into the Mantis Pokemon. This was her first battle with her new trainer, and she wanted to make a good impression, even if it meant leaving a Sealeo-shaped impression in her opponent.
Even Keegan was rather surprised by the intensity of the Flamethrower that Combusken fired, and he was still very amazed at how far the fire type had come in such a short time. Jaeshan had only received the egg last week and already it seemed as though Combusken would soon be evolving into her final form. He's good, I'll give him that, the redhead thought, watching the now singed-Vigoroth get back to its feet and hop around angrily. The trainer ordered a Slash attack and the monkey raced forward, intent on inflicting some serious hurt on Combusken ===== Miharu felt rather good about herself as she left the Pokemon Center a short time later, having had breakfast and made doubly sure all her Pokemon were in good shape. Not only that, but she'd overheard a few trainers talking about some faraway-sounding place called Sinnoh and also that there were upgrades available to those who had a PokeDex. Miharu had called up Professor Elm in New Bark Town and he'd explained in much more detail about the new region, new Pokemon, and the strange new moves that some Pokemon seemed to be gaining. Miharu had connected her PokeDex to the net and Elm had uploaded the new information to it. The first thing she'd done was look up the entries on the Pokemon she owned, though there wasn't much to get excited over, at least not yet. Right now only Tingle and Lily had a new move they could use, though the others would have a lot more once they got stronger. It gave Miharu reason to keep training with them, if anything to see these brand new moves and what they did.
Goldenrod City always seemed to make her feel a little, well, small, but today, the large city didn't intimidate her nearly as much as it normally would have. She took her badge case out of her pocket and opened it, smiling at the three badges that twinkled up at her. Once she won her badge from the gym here in Goldenrod, she'd have half of the Johto League badges. Just looking at the three gleaming objects was enough to spur her into action and she marched straight to the front doors of the gym and went inside. It was still relatively early, and either the other trainers weren't up to battling yet or they remembered her from the day before and well, weren't up to a rematch. She navigated through the maze of flower boxes, once again hating just how bloody short she was, finally finding herself at the end. She took a deep breath and folded her arms across her chest. Okay, here goes 'nuthin, she thought with a sigh.
"My name is Miharu, and I am here to challenge you, Whitney, to an official match for a gym badge!" Or, at least that's what she wanted to say, but instead all she managed to do was squeak a little. She frowned and closed her eyes. "I'm here for a gym match!" she said finally, feeling a little like someone had punched her in the gut. Well, that was the hard part. The battling part, that'll be easy.

"You gave it back, didn't you?" Sae said, mussing up his sister's hair upon her exiting the gym.
"How'd you know?" she protested, putting both hands up to stop him transforming her hair into an afro. He stopped, not because of her efforts, but because he felt the bandage under her hair; right, he had forgotten that she'd been a bit of a rumble yesterday. She spent a few seconds realigning herself, the job hastened by Ulani's help. "I'm that easy to read?"
"Well, yeah. You're pretty simple-minded," he said, smiling warmly and wrapping an arm around her. She was still so innocent. But it seemed that her journey thus far had given her more animation, too; her face now showed all shades of emotions, not just a stagnant grin. It made her smiles seem more meaningful, on that sort of pallet.
"Y'know, regardless of the outcome, we were impressed, little Mannie!" Rein said, a somewhat ironic statement considering she was by far the shortest of the three standing there (not including Ulani). "You've really grown up," she mused, remembering the girl in her younger days. She hadn't been anything near dependable back then; in fact, the girl had been somewhat of a flighty pixie, always doing whatever she pleased and giving Sae all the more trouble to patch up her messes. "And you're still growing."
M.A. wasn't sure what to say to that, so she just said thanks before the three headed off to the PokeCenter for some healing. It didn't take long since no one was really injured too much, and she was glad; she never wanted to drive her Pokemon past their limits. It'd be too dictatorial of her.
"Where to now?"
"Well, Ma and Pops went back to Fallorbor. Let me see Ma's Vicodin, I'll send it to them with Jin (the Masquerain). As for us... You're still planning to go to the new region, right?"
"Uhuh."
"Well, then, you better accompany us to Lilycove! You can see our new conditioning center, too. It's still under construction, but it'll be done soon."
--------------------
"Oh, I wouldn't want to insult your ability," Jun said with a slick smirk. "You /do/ seem like the independent type, you know." He said this for two reasons, really: 1) they honestly weren't very strong in this battling business, and 2) he wanted to keep Rosaline and himself quite intact. He abhorred the dirty, grungy fad that was going around some urban areas.
And so he had no intention of really involving himself in this battle. But, you know, like Jun, Rosaline wanted to beautify things when possible. So she flitted over to the Croagunk, spewing all the more paralyzing spores as she did so, and began to realign the totally immobile Pokemon into a graceful bridge. However, the Pokemon really wasn't built to bend backwards like that, and could only groan in pain.
Girl #1 was furious. "What kind of battling is that?"
Jun shrugged. "You ought to be grateful, we're doing you a favor! Slouching's awful for the spine." Now done with her project, Rosaline sat on the Pokemon's stomach with the airy refinement of a princess, deciding to watch the other battle for now. A thick cloud of Stun Spore floated in her immediate vicinity, and so she doubted the Cacturne would come to help his partner or that the Croagunk could even blink now. Even if they did, she was rather elusive, and would never let the likes of them catch her.
