I guess Protect doesn't work very well in quick succession Mitsu thought. "Ivy attack with another Razor Leaf!" Mitsu instructed. Once again Ivy sent out several leaves flying at the suffering Vaporeon. Once more it dodged all of them, faltering as it landed. Mitsu smiled slightly seeing the poison work it's magic. "Try not to move too much Vaporeon! Use another Ice Beam!" The sleek Water Pokemon regained her composure as she let loose another devastating Ice Beam. "Protect!" Mitsu instructed again. This time the green barrier rose up and the attack collided into the shield. The broken ice glittered in the lowering sun. Mitsu was just now noticing how late it was. She turned her attention back to the battle. Time sure flew by fast. "Give me a nice Vine Whip!" Mitsu commanded, she could feel victory in the palm of her hands.

It was snatched away too soon though as Matt called forth another Ice Beam. The attack struck head on, freezing Ivy's vines. The strong sunlight had died down long ago and she could no longer count on those rays to help deforst the frozen vines. By freezing them Matt had effectively removed a few strong attacks at Ivy's arsenal. That, however, would not stop her. All she had to do was merely wait it out and let the poison work away at the Vaporeon's remaining health. "Keep up the good work Ivy!" Mitsu encouraged with a bittersweet smile. "Another Razor Leaf!" Following the same procedure as before Ivy sent five more leaves spinning towards Vaporeon. It managed to maneuver around two leaves, the other three scoring some decent damage. The poison was definitely affecting the Vaporeon's performance. Matt winced. "All right, all right. You win," he said recalling his faithful Pokemon. "Good battle." He held out some green bills. Mitsu wallet was quite light thanks to splurging on her last trip to the Pokemart and her recent lost in Hoenn. "No thanks," she said politely pushing the money back. "You keep it." Matt nodded stuffing it back into his backpack. The two trainers shook hands and exchanged Pokenav number before going their separate ways. Matt to the gym and Mitsu to the Pokemon Center. The battle had taken up most of the afternoon and she was beat. It had been a long day for both her and Karri, whom had returned herself long ago. She entered the Pokemon Center wearily, handing Ivy's, Sapphire's and Karri's Pokeball to Nurse Joy. The young trainer soon collapsed into a deep slumber before she had hit the soft cushions of the sofa.

"Did he stop chasing us yet?!" Nina screamed to Anna as they bolted out of Fuschia City and went back onto Route 15. Anna looked back as she continued to hover near her trainer. "Gaaah!" she whined, "No! He's still there!" Nina was getting tired of running, although she jumped as the Rhyhorn let out another massive, earth-shaking roar. "Well, I can't run from this thing forever! I'm getting tired! If only we could--"

Nina didn't finish her sentence. "Wait. Anna! I need you to battle him! Maybe if we weaken him enough, then we'll be able to escape!"

Anna was silent for a moment. "All right. I'll do the best that I can... but after this, you seriously need to teach me a TM or two!"

"All right, whatever you want!" Nina replied. "Just, please! Distract him or something!"

As Nina took cover behind a tree,
Anna looped around and faced the Pokemon that was coming towards her.

Mitsu was thrown into another fitful sleep as she tossed and turned on the sofa under the blanket that had been placed over her by the kind-hearted nurse.

"Shut up!" and eleven year old girl shouted at the shadowy figure. It had its arms crossed and a smirk on it's face. All other features were obscured. "It tastes good!" She shoved a plate full of pancakes at the figure. It was seated at a table and the young girl was wearing an apron. "I don't want to eat food made by a monster," it sneered. The small girl pouted, a defiant look plastered to her face. "I'm notta monster!" The figure rolled its eyes, weird it had eyes, a mouth, and arms but everything else seemed like it couldn't, well, be seen. It ruffled her hair and popped a forkful into it's mouth. "Not bad...for a monster."

....
"Nyy. Nottaa monn..ster..." Mitsu mumbled in her sleep as she turned over again.

"T-u-- look!" a small girl shouted (half of the name sounded garbled up and just like gibberish.) She was sporting a blue dress with locks of shiny purple-black hair. "It's a Whale mar!" The girl was jumping up and down pointing at the blue blob near the island's shore. "Wailmer squirt," the same shadowy figure corrected. The Pokemon echoed its name before spraying the girl with some salty seawater. "Whaaa!" she cried wiping her face away soon enough to see the Pokemon submerge underwater. The figure laughed. "Cute, squirt, cute."

"Stuupid Wail...mer.." she mumbled again before falling silent. If one listened they could hear her shallow breaths as she breathed in and out while sleeping. Mitsu snuggled under the blanket, attempting to keep warm as she slept the rest of the night though.

Feeling like the luckiest, most fortunate girl on the planet, Mary-Anne headed back to Goldenrod City, with an equally happy Daemyn in his arms. The hollow, vague feeling of sadness that hid in the depth of his eyes had disappeared, now that he had found himself and what he truly wanted. Granted, he was still gruff and aloof to most everyone, but M.A. was more to him than just 'most everyone.' She'd been at his side for so long, even when he hadn't returned that loyalty, protected him with little concern for herself, and had always shown him that smile, that smile whose gentleness was only rivalled by his mother's.

Although their day had been emotionally exhausting, it was far too early to turn in for the both of them; the two were giddy and chose to pass through the city on a whim. So they did, entering the next route and going through as if in some lovely dream; M.A. still could hardly believe that the Pokemon that she adored so would continue on by her side, and so she was in a state of unparallelled bliss.

She felt as if she should skip along, and did so -- but Daemyn promptly leapt out of her arms, not exactly liking that uppidy down feeling. And not a moment later, they saw the gatehouse to Ilex Forest.

Nurse Joy came back shortly to give Crenu his Pokemon back only to find him sleeping sitting up near the window. She looked to Ky. "So, are you guys traveling together?"

"Yeah," Ky said. "I met him in Violet City. That's where I'm from. He's from Erktasomething City. Not really sure where that is." Ky yawned again. 'I should probably get to bed too,' Ky thought.

"I'll keep your guys' Pokemon resting in the care center while you guys sleep. Having come all the way from Violet City, you guys must be really tired," Joy said. "You can sleep in one of our beds if you want."

Ky looked over at Crenu and smiled. 'That has to be uncomfortable to sleep like that,' Ky thought. "No thanks, I'll just lay on the couch. Do you have a blanket I can use?"

"Of course," Nurse Joy said. Shortly she came out with one. Ky walked over to another couch near Crenu, laid down underneath the blanket, and quickly dozed off. He dreamt of the trip to Azalea Town. During the time he dreamt of Jessica, you could see Ky grin in his sleep.

Several hours past and soon it was morning. As the beams of light poured through the window and hit Crenu's face, he awoke dazed. "Heh....? " He looked over at Ky, then stood up, making himself straight as can be. His back cracked loudly as his spine uncurled. "I'm gonna feel that all day."

"Dude. That girl keeps mumbling. She's, like, weird or something," some whispered to his pal a few feet away from Mitsu. "AH CHOO!" Mitsu sneezed being ripped away from her dream world. The two boys who had been whispering scurried away before Mitsu had the chance to acknowledge their presence. "Like they say, you sneeze when someone's talking about you," she muttered rubbing one eye. She sat up folding the blanket and placing it aside as she recollected the information that had occurred in her dreams. I'm going to say these are memories. But if they are why the hell can't I remember any of it?! I mean, I don't recall anything about my past up until I was seven. But that person. Who are they?! She racked her brain for more information, slightly frustrated that she could not remember a lot about her past. The things I remember most are of after I met Ken, when I was twelve, and a little bit when I was seven and eight when I met Karri and Tate 'n Liza. Stupid other kids on the island made fun of me, I trained (sort of), made a few friends, blah, blah, blah. Why the hell is almost everything else before I was twelve such a . . . mystery?! She pushed the confusing thoughts to the back of her mind before getting up.

She made a quick trip to the bathroom to freshen up before reclaiming her Pokemon from Nurse Joy. With a polite thank you she was out the door and taking a deep breath of the Cerulean City air. "Time for some more training," Mitsu said to herself. "I'll give Sapphire and Zyphyr some training right now." She threw a Safari Ball and a Great Ball into the air. Sapphire and Zyphyr coming out respectively. Within less than a few seconds Zyphyr was glaring daggers at Mitsu. He squawked bitterly at her as if saying, "You let me down yesterday. I lost to a stupid grass type. You stupid human!"

Mitsu flinched under his glare. She soon left loose a sigh as she reminded herself of Kasiya's advice. Be patient and caring. Don't let your frustrations get the best of you. she breathed out slowly. "We're going to do a bit of training Zyphyr. You want to get stronger and Sapphire and I are here to help you do it." The Pidgeotto turned his head away and chirped, "I don't need you or that mutt!" Sapphire growled, but Mitsu held out her hand. "Just please be patient with him," she whispered to the Houndoom. He merely nodded, not liking it at all. It hurt his tough guy act, kinda.

Mag had decided to tackle the problem of getting out of Cerulean to the morning and had retired to the Pokemon Center (before Mitsu) and gone into one of the rooms. He had awoken bright and early and had once again headed south. "So I wonder if I can burn down this tree..." Mag pondered aloud.

Ky woke up to the sound of Crenu's back cracking. As he opened his eyes, he gave out a huge yawn after sitting up and stretching. "Good morning," he said to Crenu. Outside the window, Ky saw kids playing with small Pokemon, tripping and tackling each other.

"Here you guys go," said Nurse Joy, holding out a tray with their Pokeballs on it. "Ky's are on the right, yours are on the left," she said to Crenu.

"Thank you Nurse Joy. You're always a big help... or your family is a big help..yeah..not that you aren't a big help or anything..um, yeah... Thanks." Crenu spoke mumbling and awkwardly as he was unable to fully gather any thoughts after waking up from any sleep. He grabbed his pokeballs and clipped them onto his belt.

Ky did the same, clipping his Pokeballs to his belt. "So, do you want to battle now or do you want to eat first? I'm not that hungry but I'm sure training will build an appetite." Ky stood up and stretched again. Then Ky frowned; he was acting hasty again. "Sorry, I don't mean to rush things. You're the one who needs to make sure that your Pokemon are ready for Bugsy, not me and my Pokemon. I'll let you decide." Ky then smiled, hoping he didn't sound too odd.

"You kiddin me? I always battle before breakfast." Crenu smiled and exited the center, standing outside as he waited for Ky. "You'd better come at me with all you've got."

As Crenu left the center, Ky clenched his fists in excitement. Crenu's words really phyched him up. Ky ran out of the center, leaped down all of the steps in one bound, and took his position opposite Crenu. "I'm ready! Sting! You're first!" Ky called as the Kakuna appeared standing upright, as upright as a cacoon could stand.

"Spinarak, front and center!" Crenu threw his pokeball into the arena and watched as Spinarak leapt out in a flood of red and snaping her pinsers.

It might still have been bright in the outside world, but within the deep foliage of Ilex Forest, the atmosphere fell heavy and dark upon the young brunette's shoulders. In fact, it probably was the same here whether it was day or night: eerie and full of shadows.

M.A. and Daemyn had barely stepped into the forest when a green face suddenly dropped from the trees above and hung before them. "OMIGAWD!" the girl shrieked, falling back on her butt and scooting backwards several feet. She soon realized that before them was this green spider-like Pokemon, with a horn, little red pincers, and (worst of all, in M.A.'s opinion) eight striped legs. Not two, not four, but eight. And that scary ol' face on its back. . .

The girl's face turned deathly pale, almost bluish in tone, and she shivered uncontrollably -- not so much from the chilliness and dampness, now, but from insect-phobia. "A. . . a. . . huge bug," she whimpered, hiding behind Daemyn (who, of course, was impassive and watching his dear trainer with mixed concern and perplexity). He, of course, couldn't see why anyone would be afraid of a little thing like this Spinarak. So, figuring that he'd better make the thing go away before M.A.'s soul practically left her, he let loose a strong burst of fire towards the Bug-type, taking a critical hit and sending the spider scurrying off.

"T-thank you," M.A. whispered, getting herself up weakly. It wasn't that she hated insects or anything. She was just terrified of them. Still, they continued on, not without Daemyn spurting an ember every once and a while to rid the path of the bug-types lingering there for the sake of a terrified Mary-Anne.

If all forests are like this. . . I don't know how I'll handle travelling, she groaned mentally.
