Lori accepted the hug as well as he would with any friendly face. He came away from it smiling.
"There's nothing to worry about. I mean, not this time anyway." Capturing the dragon, that had been dangerous. What threw him of, though, was the sudden invitation to go somewhere else. Huh. Each moment made him realize he truly had no idea what his relationship with the man was. "Nah, I just got out. We could go to the park if you want."

Luca smiled. "Great. And I was thinking... Maybe we could go to dinner?" He glanced around awkwardly. "Chat a bit, stuff? I don't really know what you like to eat, but I could get us a reservation somewhere..." He trailed off, instead heading for his car. He offered Lori his hot chocolate. "I mean, it doesn't have to be tonight."

Lori was silent for a bit longer than socially acceptable, and he was looking at his hot chocolate as if it had just told him that he was adopted. He knew better than anyone that forest elves couldn't read minds, but really this was all a little surprising. Had they had the same thought at the same time?
"Oh! Yeah, uh. Sure. Sure, whenever." Any words were better than more silence. He even managed a smile after the torrent, looking Luca's face over. He really as a good-looking man. The smile turned to a smirk.
"Is this a date?" He took his first sip of hot cocoa.

Luca blinked at the question. "Yeah," he said. He seemed to hesitate for a moment, before flashing him a smile. "Lily said I ought to ask you properly, you know, my dryad, so I planned to while you were gone."
"So...Where would you like to go for dinner?"

Just for a moment, Lori chose to forgo the actual direct question and continue exploring his own line of thinking.
"You know, I wasn't even sure if you were interested any more? I thought I might have just been friend-zoned. Which is fine! It's just... nice to have some warning. But I'm glad I was wrong because you're cute and I like you." A boyish smile over his cup as he took another sip.

Luca was genuinely surprised by that. "What?" He asked. "I've been interested since the day I met you." He smiled at Lori. "I'm sorry. I haven't really had much practice." He sipped at his own hot chocolate.

Considering all of the time they'd lost as 'officially dating,' Lori reached out for Luca's hand and took it. Whether he was amused, bashful or appreciative didn't matter. He didn't think he'd get a negative response.
"So what do you like to eat? You bought coffee on our last date, it's my turn to pick up the check."

Lori earned a smile when he took Luca's hand. "But I invited you, so I'm paying. Isn't that how it goes?..." The elf puzzled over that briefly, before adding, "Anything that doesn't taste like leaves. Blegh. Chinese or Italian is good. I know this great Thai place, too."

"Usually, but you only beat me to it. I've decided I'm paying." He gave Luca a happy glance. "Oh, good. I'm not a salad-eater myself. Good choices though." He gave a thoughtful frown and half-nod. "How are you feeling about Thai? I'm partial to Asian food myself. There's an amazing Japanese place not too far from here, all things considered. The sushi's amazing, but if you don't like that they have everything else too."

"I love asian food," Luca smiled at him. "Oh, Japanese sounds good. I've had sushi before, it's different," he said. "Want to go there? We could head on over after the park, if you like."

See, that was something they hadn't learned about each other just nerding over books. This was more of what he had wanted. "Sure! Only if we get to take your car." Either way they were going to have to come back to the parking lot to pick up the other. Lori didn't imagine they'd lunge to the "why don't you stay over night?" stage just yet.

Luca grinned, letting go of Lori's hand only briefly to dig into his pocket for keys. He held them up and offered them to him. He remembered how much the other elf liked the car. "Want to drive?" he asked. "You can show me where the restaurant is."

Lori's eyes lit up.
"Really? Absolutely!" He snatched the keys and looked at them like a precious gift. Man, he'd never had a shiny car like this. It had always seemed pointless. To be able to drive one, though, was a different story all together. The first thing he did when he slid into the driver's seat was put his cocoa in the cup holder, and then he appraised the interior, feeling the wheel with his hands.
Wow.

Luca smiled, sliding into the passenger seat. Well, Lori certainly seemed happy. "Lets go to the park," he said, watching the other man. He took a sip of his hot chocolate before setting it into the passenger side cup holder.

Lori was gentle in the way he drove, not wanting to do anything that might upset Luca, but was grinning the entire time. When they finally made it to the park, which was admittedly quite a ways away, he got out and came around the car to open the door for Luca.
