PUG = Pick Up Group

That's when a bunch of random people group up together for something.

For instance, in Guild Wars, you want a party to do a mission. Well, you take whoever's looking for a group to do that same mission.

The reason PUGs suck is mostly because random people don't know how to cooperate. Like, Person A doesn't know how Person B plays and vice versa, so they don't know how to support each other well.

I can go solo with henchmen ( computer controlled party members ) and pull off a very easy mission success in what are usually the most dreaded missions.

Like, Unwaking Waters and Elona Reach. UW requires, for Masters, that you go down a spiral path, killing several monster groups, and finally beating the boss, within a certain amount of time. ( Timer only affects rating, not mission success/failure. ) It was one of the most dreaded missions in all of GW at the time. I go solo, with only AI support, and blow the crap outta it on try 1, easy Master rating.

Elona Reach, you have 30 minutes to get 2 crystals and bring them back to " base. " The bonus objective is to bring one of the crystals to 2 other sites before then and summon the spirits of fallen warriors. Again, I go solo with just AI support, and do it all easily.

I've been the mission expert in many PUGs in GW. That is, I'm the one who's done that mission a bunch of times already with my other characters.

That said, you'd wanna listen to me since I would undoubtedly know the best way to win, and we all wanna win it, right?

Well, more often than not, whoever's the one that started the party decides that makes them unquestioned leader, so they call all the shots.

One of the worst was when one dumbass ruined the bonus objective in one mission. We all went about it going, " You all know how do the bonus, right? Do NOT do XYZ. " Guess what? The idiot does XYZ, then when we ask what the Hell, " Oh, sorry. I didn't know. "

Another one that's even worse than that though, is when one guy prevents it despite no risk that he claims was present.

We're in a mission that's tricky to do both the primary and bonus objective in the same go. Most groups do 1, then restart the mission to do the other. We planned to do both at once, and easily did so, at least until this one dumbass decides " Oh, we're not gonna make it. " and ends the mission the very instant the end is reachable. I even call him out on it since I figured someone would do that and saw who was running for the end. He says we weren't gonna make it and the entire group calls BS on that. All of us except him go back to get the bonus we'd already have gotten if not for him not following the plan we all agreed on to start with.

I've only run into friends twice, and only teamed up once.

The time I teamed up was with Cale and Ral, and we did a few quests together. I ran into shotesu but he was too busy with doing solo stuff to team up, and it wasn't a big deal since I was just farming crap anyways.
