I think it's a stupid holiday because it's based off the beheading of a man named Sir Valentine, and now we celebrate his death as a time to buy a bunch of presents shaped like hearts that really only look so good because they go well with the holiday.

The celebration comes from the legend that before his execution (his martyrdom), St. Valentine sent a love note to his jailer's daughter which read, "From Your Valentine."
