Nina grew annoyed at Giovanni's comment regarding her begging for help, but she couldn't really expect much less than sarcasm from the man. "I'm aware that Kilik decided to help you," she replied. "That was actually the root of a couple of problems between the both of us, so you can tell that I am truly reluctant in coming here myself. I wouldn't expect him to call me anything less than a hypocrite." She was silent for a moment.
"I know we've had our share of differences, but I do desire to try to get along for the time being. If we are able to do that, it's my belief that things can run a bit more smoothly for the both of us. So... I'll try not to critique you if you do the same for me. Deal?"

Giovanni nodded, looking down at the girl. He knew from the moment he saw her she was Maorde's daughter. They shared a common goal, but after what had happened so many years ago, anyone associated with that man could never be forgiven.
He closed his eyes.
"Mom! Mooom!" an eighteen year old Giovanni cried out. His short black hair seemed to burn on his head as fire encircled him. His fists closed tightly. "Get away from her!" he cried out at the man. A very tall man was standing before a kneeling woman. The silohuette of a dragon stood behind the man. "Leave my mother alone!" Giovanni cried out, slamming his eyes shut. However, it was too late. She fell with a thud face down and the man disappeared with the dragon.
The man's eyes shot open and he glanced down at the girl, his hands shaking a bit. "He'll die. Rest assured, girl, he will fall."

The boy stopped in his tracks at the word 'older'. Such a concept never really crossed his mind. In Mike's head, he would always be the same, no matter how long he lived. But, such is the normal mentality of any teenage boy so youthful and full of life. "What? Older?" His eyes immediatly cast downward, to the companions on his strap. Come to think of it, how long did Pokemon live? Would his friends be with him forever? Pokemon were magical creatures, but...they don't have Pokemon Tower and Ghost types for no reason. The very thought depressed him, causing a temporary rift in his normal heartbeat. He pushed it aside, he'd think about it later, when he had some time to himself. "Well, I never really thought about what the future held. I've always been the '15 minute ahead' brooder type. Ladies dig that you know."
Honestly, he had no idea. Being a kid barely into young adulthood, he had no idea of the responsibilities that grown ups have to carry everyday, as his life was always sort of free, shoot in the breeze you know? All this talk about growing up got him thinking about the one mature choice he'd made in his life: Flannery. That red hot vixen set fire to his very soul. And goodness was she gorgeous too. "Well, if I had to say something, I'd go with being a trainer for as long as I could. Settling down with Flannery is not out of the picture yet." The boy added with a wink, his mind filling with daydreams of the lovely Gym Leader.

Nina tilted her head as Giovanni stood in silence for a few moments-- she was tempted to take a peek into his mind to see what was passing through it, but she elected not to. It was likely he would have noticed, anyway. "If it's any consolation," she said, "he stole one of the most important Pokemon in my life and brainwashed her to forget that she ever belonged to me. It was my Misdreavus. He'd said that she was the 'descendant of a reincarnation of his Alakazam,' or something, and he's trying to revive it... I don't understand it." She sighed, rubbing her temples for a moment. She then looked back up to the Gym Leader.
"Um... if you'd like, I'll head off, if you'd rather be doing whatever it was you were doing before I came in here."

Kilik listened to Mike's words then blinked a bit. That was right. Mike was dating a Gym Leader. If Nina hadn't hated him so much, then there was the possibility that he would be, too. Shaking his head, he continued on to the Pokemon Center, eventually looping around to the building's front. "Who knows?" Kilik laughed, "Maybe she'll be settling down with a League Champion." He smiled a bit, albiet weakly. If anyone he knew close could become a Champion, it was Mike. Clearing his mind of the thought, he glanced up. "Sorry if I was prying."
Giovanni shook his head. "No!" he said a lot sharper than he had intended, "Stay here. Rest assured girl, your Misdreavus will be returned to you." At this moment, Giovanni felt a huge weight come off his shoulders, as if this was the turning point. The point that Team Rocket would work for the greater good. And then he shook his head. Team Rocket will not be like that. We are a crime syndicate and will act as such! he thought, Maorde is just a mere speed bump on our way to glory!
"You will wait here for your friends to return."

Nina jumped a little as Giovanni snapped at her. "Sorry!" she said-- any other time, she probably would have thought up something moderately witty to use to retort with, but not this time.
Instead, what she said was extremely awkward.
"I... er. Thank you." Feeling stupid, she crossed one leg over the other, setting one arm vertically on her knee, resting her chin in her palm. She looked off to the side, anxious for her friends' return.

Mike looked over at his friend with a smile. "Yeah, League Champion sounds about right." He added a wink, stepping through the automatic doors of the Pokemon Center. "And what about you?" Asked the boy, handing Portabello and Beacon to the Nurse. "What are your plans for the future? Surely they can't be as boring as my stereotypical 'ai want a familee lawl'."

Roland had been expecting Keegan's order, and why shouldn't he? It was the smart thing to do, and he would have done the same, had their positions been reversed. Glancing down at his Furret for a split second, the trainer's eyes narrowed as the Swellow hurtled towards her. Only two words escaped his lips, and they were loud enough for only Furret to hear: "Quick Attack."
Normally, as fast as her species was, Furret wouldn't have been able to outrun a speedy Pokemon like Swellow; but Quick Attack was destined to strike first, and Furret took off, a shimmering trail of rose-coloured sparkles trailing beautifully in her wake. Her keen eyesight kept the bird in her vision, and as Artemis came in for the attack, Furret jumped up, avoiding the Swellow's sharp beak and claws, and using the momentum she'd built up, struck downward with her forepaws.
The crowed roared with delight at the display; not only was the Furret a sight to behold, but she was a strong Pokemon as well, and that was something every one of them had came down here to see.
Still clutching Levi to her, Kasiya cheered loudly as well. Keegan had come a long way as a trainer since she'd first met him, and she doubted it would be long before he could equally match her in a battle. Her heart swelled with pride as she watched him and his Pokemon work together, and felt something else within her heart she wasn't sure she'd felt before. This new feeling scared her, yet it was exciting at the same time. In the meantime, Levi clambered up her shoulders and onto the girl's head to get a better view, occasionally squirting up light jets of water that looked like miniature, watery fireworks. As young as she still was, the Mudkip could still appreciate a good battle.

Kilik shrugged. Personally, he had never given much thought to the situation, other than what he really wanted to do. He handed over all his Pokeballs to heal the group at once, making sure they were in tip-top shape. "I think it'd be nice to settle down and be with a family," he replied, walking over to the couches and sitting down with a light sigh, "I'm thinking I'll try to be a Gym Leader. That'd be really cool." He nodded, "Though my dad would probably like it better if I was an Excavator like he is. 'Keep the family tradition going, my son!' is what'd he tell me all the time."

Mike chuckled. "Have you ever noticed that whenever a parent pressures their kid into following in their footsteps, the previously said child always strays away." A not so serious smirk appeared on the boy's face as he turned towards Kilik, holding out hands in a menacing manner, his fingers playing the part of claws. "For with my kid, I'll trick him by saying I want him to be a researcher, telling him the joys of a quiet lab style life. Then his youthful rebellion kicks in, he'll most assuredly go for the route of a Pokemon Trainer!"
...
"Of course, I would never be so manipulative." Mike said, literally brushing off his more dramatic side. All the theatrics distracted the two time enough for their Pokemon to be healed. Accepting his telepathic samurai and the dim bulbed demi-whale, Mike reattached his groupies to his strap. "Alright, Kilik, let's go." With that, he went ahead and exited the Center, moving out into the fresh air.

Kilik laughed at the story then gathered up the Pokeballs when the Nurse set the tray back onto the counter. He attached them all to his belt in a bit of a hurry, turning his head to see Mike had already gone out the door. He paused for a second, taking in the boy's words. His attention turned to the ceiling then to the front door. Waving good bye to the nurse, Kilik exited the center and met Mike outside.
"Alright, so back to the Gym!" he said, pointing in the general direction of the building. "Let's see what Giovanni wanted me to do!"

Viridian City was small, out of the way, and sparse in population. It's boundaries were consumed by beautiful trees, many of which taller than the few buildings the miniature locale supplied. Mike looked around as he walked, Kanto sure had a different flavor than Hoenn. Even the air tasted like something else. He'd been in this unfamiliar region for quite some time, and while it was beginning to grow on him, home would always be home. It was a shame that this place, with so much potential for some peaceful relaxation, just happened to be the home base for Giovanni and his gang of delinquents.
But, every rose has its thorn, or whatever you could apply that metaphor to. Mike gave a disgruntled face contortion, rolling his eyes as the doors to the Viridian Gym opened before him. Not looking where he was going, the boy's head was pointed downward, a little ahead of his feet. After a step or two, a familiar sight came into view.
A butt. However, this butt was different, one he remembered. "Nina!" He cried out, shaking his head to divert his vision from something he knew would end in a slap or a very embarrassed friend.

Nina, not expecting to hear a voice coming from behind her, jumped up and whirled around-- what? "Mike!" she exclaimed, her excitement overpowering her shock. Almost reflexively, she snatched the boy into a hug. "Mike, I'm so glad to see you!" She didn't realize until a few moments after that she was hugging her friend a bit too tightly; her arm was starting to hurt, so she let him go. "How've you been? I feel like I haven't seen you in ages!" She smiled a tad, and it seemed as if her maniacal stalker of a father didn't matter anymore.
She knew she was safe now.

Not exactly the reaction he expected, it was a pleasant surprise. For once he could enjoy one of those. After the delightfully lengthy hug, Mike smiled at his friend, not even wondering how they were on such good terms. Every time they both got together someone either got killed or kidnapped, or went ballistic. A mental sigh was let out as the boy remembered Sabrina's untimely demise. Such a pity, she was one of those 'outer shell is cold, but warm adorable personality underneath'. Obviously this needed not be brought up.
"Hey Nina!" Mike replied, his friend's overly gleeful greeting snapping him back into reality. "What's new?"

"All things considered," she began, moving some stray hair behind her ear, her tone of voice shifting from merry to a bit more serious, "I'd like to say that I'm doing well. But, clearly if I've come to this Gym, all is not well." Sigh.
"See, earlier today, I took Whitney and Raimundo-- have you met Raimundo? He's my boyfriend," she added quickly, before going on. "Anyway. I took them for a ride on Pookie, down to Celadon City. They protested on a supreme level, and Rai even told me that he was terrified of the species as a whole, but I didn't listen. So, we scampered from Saffron to Celadon, and everything seemed to be going well, until Whitney was thrown off Pookie's back and into a pool, where she fell unconscious. Anna rescued her, and the three of us had our first real fight. They were mad at me, and, well, for good reason. Rai took Whitney to the hospital to make sure everything was okay, and then I headed back to Saffron to do... something. I can't remember what, though."
Nina scratched her head, trying to remember, but to no avail.
"Anyway. I guess I told Anna to check on them, so she went off to Celadon and she found the room that Whitney was admitted to. They talked for a bit I guess, and from what Rai had told me, Whitney was going to head out of the room to get the nurses' attention since they were neglecting her. But, the instant she opened the door, Maorde was standing right there. Anna rushed her and Raimundo to the window in the room and told them to take off and that she'd 'meet up with them later.'" She sniffled a little bit. "So, uh, Anna kept Maorde distracted by battling him, I guess, and when all that was happening, Rai and Whitney came to pick me up and we flew off to Goldenrod's Pokemon Center to hide out for the night."
The girl rubbed her eyes. "So, we got some sleep, but I woke up a couple times in the middle of the night, and the second time I got up to get some food. I looked out one of the Center's windows, and I saw Maorde flying right down toward us. I barely had time to order Whitney and Rai to get dressed and instruct them to Fly off to Hoenn when I signaled to them before I rushed outside and exhanged banter with my father. And... heh. That was when the worst of it all happened. Dad... uh. Maorde... captured Anna... with this weird type of Pokeball. And he said that it converts the captured Pokemon over to that trainer's way of thinking and their personality. And get this! If the Pokemon had a trainer before being captured, they lose all of their memories of ever being with that person."
She wanted to cry, but she held back. "And when I went to Anna, she attacked me! And Maorde didn't even tell her to! So... that was when I was able to distract him long enough to make my own escape here, to ask for Giovanni's help. I can't face this man down, Mike."
