So today I had a battle with my flat mate. BA vs. O'Shava Tau. He won of course, cause we did it primitive armageddon style. No point limit and no force charts. Well I have found out that O'Shava's army can take at a minimum of 10 suits including him and a commander. In a full army he would take 14 suits. With the commander being tank busters and the rest firknives. O'shavas' bodyguards and three suits plus him would be potentially 20 strength 6 ap 2 shots. Death on jump jets for every army.

That is permitting two full squads of apce marines. That is great.

So I still can't beat my friend. Just lost by 35 victory points. It was close though. I was left with just my Crisis commander, Stims, Command Control, Iridium, Burst Cannon, Missile Pod, Hardwired Multi. Took out a chaplain, two terms and a dreadnaught venerable. My Fire Knives took out an assault squad.

Why can't I beat him. Cause He has three ******** plus armour saves and I only have one set of fire knives. One sniper drone team. I HATE SPACE MARINES.

AP 3 isn't the only way to blow apart marines, try massing some pulse rifles (is that what they're called?) on em.

I've lost many a marine to those annoying firewarriors, some drop out of transports and rapidfire or even just the ones that sit back. Marines fail their armor saves eventually, and when they do it can be devastating.

I think a 35 point margin is not enough for a victory depending on how many points you where playing your game at. So I do believe you managed to get a draw out of your friend which is better than a kick in the teeth^^

Oh and Nuclearwinter I do believe you mean Plasma Rifles. Yes they are good at taking out Marines as they have an AP of 2. But on the bad side they are pretty hefty on the old points. I would post the points cost up but I think I am not allowed to do that.

No, I believe nuclear winter does mean Pulse Rifles or whatever the base gun of the fire warrior is. He mentioned Fire Warriors, firing the gun hes talking about in groups, and rapid fire. So to me that says base infantry gun.

Which is what ap4 s5 I think?

well, as i hate to say it, 40k is game of eliminating rolls... thats why fearless troops are so good (no morale rolls), flamers are great (multiple hits without single dice roll), power weapons and high ap weapons are good...

yeah, and for a basic infantry weapon S5 is great! sure fire warriors only got balistic skill 3 but even if you don't combine them with markerlights (from pathfinders or where ever) they still make great support units with a range of 30'. and they're only 10 points a man! I think why tau are so difficult for some people is that they don't use enough of these guys!

I like to use Fire Warriors a lot. Out of 100% of my troop choices Fire Warriors(Not including Devilfishes) make up to about 65% of it. The rest go on Kroot as I love fielding Kroot. Sure they are not exactly killing machines in close combat but they are the best Tau have in that field of the game. Plus if there is a wooded area I am so totally going to infiltrate my Kroot into it^^

I don't plan to use Kroot at all. I think Firewarriors give you more bang for the buck when it comes for wasting power. Kroot just die.

Well at least i was close for going off of memory.

Im a kroot fan, but then again Im not a tau player, and theyre an easy way to bump up my numbers for eldar. I like the kroot and Ive seen them used very effectively by people even on desert or urban boards.

yeah, despite their obvious weaknesses they seem to be the most flexable of all the "tau" units.

Oh Kroot can be extremely useful if there is a bit of wooded area terrain. If they infiltrate into that they will be extremely hard to shift and they can shoot 12 inches through a wooded area instead of 6 like all other models. Plus if and enemy tries to assault the Kroot will in the terrain the Kroot will have an initiative of 10 and if you have a maximum unit of Kroot in that unit that is about 60 strength 4 attacks coming back at the assaulting unit which is very scary indeed. So I totally disagree with you in saying that Kroot just die.
