Here's my view on it. People get confrontational and nasty whenever you bring it up. I understand some people have learning difficulties such as dyslexia, but I have seen MANY people on here with difficulties. You never would have known because they take the effort.
It's just frustrating. People want advice and comments, but a lot of people (myself included) will just skim over it or not read it at all if it's horribly thrown together.
I'm not asking for perfect grammar/spelling, but if you want someone to make the effort to respond deeply, I feel the poster should make the effort as well. I tend to skip over posts with run-on sentances, blatant and lazy typos, etc.
On ASMR (another board I frequent), it is not uncommon for the moderators to edit a person's post or "translate" for them. Do I think I should have to? No, but it's a courtesy I'm willing to extend for those who don't want to try.
Sorry, as you can tell I've been getting rather stressed and frustrated with online dealings.

Sorry, as you can tell I've been getting rather stressed and frustrated with online dealings. I think I posted something like that here not to long ago. It's frustrating mainly because no one really listens. As far as I'm concerned, we've been nothing but polite, understanding, and kind about the issue. But if need be, I WILL become the resident b***h Goddess. I will also be willing to help with the 'translation' of posts if needed.

It is true, we have tried the discreet PMing approach and been met with hostility. And it is frustrating because it's in the rules and we keep bringing it up in here and in the posts that are the worst. But it really is hard to help someone else if you can't even understand what they're trying to tell you. It only takes a couple minutes to check it over and to add some punctuation and make sure it actually makes sense. It doesn't have to be perfect, but it does need to be legible.
Translations would not bother me a bit.

I can see how the discreet PM idea could totally backfire in the exact same way as a translation could. However, with an edit to a post the moderator responsible for the edit would be nameless and it wouldn't seem like a personal attack. There are enough crew members here that should someone correct a post who KNOWS who it was who translated it.
They could even provide the translation IN the post in order to leave a person's words as they originally were.
Me I just keep my mouth shut on all fronts otherwise I'd be going off on ever person who showed up here announcing they were "pregnate."

Today was a very good day. I'm revising the story you might remember as the one I needed so much help with on the chapter about Harry's allergic reaction. I wouldn't normally put so much effort into an old story, but I am very fond of it and it's being reposted in another site. Not that its original posting is being removed, only expanded.
My fanfiction.net friend Erika has convinced me to join the infamous "Greak Break" in the LJ communities. It was started because fanfiction.net's been deleting a lot of well-known, well-loved, well-written stories and people are getting sick and tired of it.
(Has personally had stories deleted for stupid reasons.)
Another reason today was good: We bought the whoopie-cushion I've been needing for a prank I want to pull in my car-pool ride.
You see, riding to school with the three kids I ride with is like riding with those British guards in the tall hats who never laugh. It's boring. No one speaks.
So I'm lightening the mood with a bit of crude humor. whee
When the car is in its most DEADLY silent mode (which is most of the time) I'm going to let the whoopie-cushion carry out its glorious job. It'll have 'em crying with laughter.
Though I'll have a difficult time holding in my laughter in the process.
